Interesting ship with great amenities

Review for a Pacific Coastal Cruise on Oosterdam

We choose this cruise just out of convince and having never tried Holland America in the past we saw the 1 night cruise as a great opportunity to compare it to past cruises on Norwegian, Princess, and Royal Caribbean. Overall they were a nice line to cruise on, however there were a few things that stood out from the other lines. Firstly I have nothing but good things to say about the live ...

We expected more from Holland America.

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Oosterdam

This was not our first cruise and compared to the others we were on, it was very disappointing. We were not impressed with the food. Selections were very repetitious, often not hot and not that tasty on the Lido Deck. There were more selections at lunch but many of them were closed at dinnertime. Food was offered by the pool during the day but closed around 5:00 p.m. Often sounded like some ...

Disappointed

We have sailed many times with Holland America, and enjoyed the cruises very much. This last trip to alaska was disappointing in that we saw a big downgrading in the vista shows, the movie rooms screen is very old and should be replaced with a bigger and new movie screen, the casino needs a big renovation and the dining rooms menu isn't as good as before because of menu selection and presentation. ...

OK cruise, but not ideal

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Oosterdam

This was our first time on a large ship- Oosterdam has nearly 2000 passengers. The staff were superb and attentive, and the ship facilities extensive. The food was fairly good but not outstanding. The package was at first sight good value, but the cost of optional extras was high: WiFi was extortionately priced, alcoholic drinks were very expensive, as was the spa, and shore excursions (though the ...

Disappointing Reposition Cruise

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on Oosterdam

This 4-day reposition down the Western US coast was the least satisfying HAL cruise we've ever taken. The atmosphere aboard was truly uninspired. In fact, it seemed as if this short sailing was a Blow Off. The entire crew seemed distracted and disengaged, unlike most crews we've had on other HAL ships. Were they exhausted from the just-finished Alaska season? Were they focused on making the ...

Pacific Coastal Cruise - First Time Cruisers - And Last Time

Pacific Coastal - 5 days on the Oosterdam Embarkation: Took a taxi to Canada Place - delivered right to where we needed to check in! Arrived at 10:45 - process was painless and we were on the ship 45 minutes later. Made our way to the Lido and found a table for 4 - all the tables for 2 were taken. Shared with two nice ladies from Canada. Cabin. We were able to go to the cabin at 1:30pm. We ...

Review for a Mexican Riviera Cruise on Oosterdam

My husband and I embarked on our 7th cruise, second with Holland America. Got a great deal, via an email offer and liked the itinerary, so said, let's do it!! 12 days from Vancouver Canada down to the Mexican Riviera. Our cruise was to sail on a Monday from Canada Place so since we are from the east coast we decided to make the cross country trip worth it and arrived on Saturday for 2 days ...

Another Dam Cruise

Review for a British Columbia Cruise on Oosterdam

My wife and I, both in our mid (or later) seventies, had nothing except fond memories of HAL from our trip on the Rotterdam's final crossing before becoming the Rembrandt in 1998. In booking the Oosterdam for our 53rd anniversary, we imagined we would recapture these memories. We were mistaken. Holland America is supposed to cater to the elderly traveller, of whom we certainly are, so when people ...
