My partner and I, with friends, recently cruised on the Silver Spirit: we embarked in Singapore for a 14 day cruise to Hong Kong via Thailand and Viet Nam. It was a wonderful itinerary on one of our favorite ships. After a terrific pre-cruise adventure to Cambodia to see the ancient temples and a quick one night stay in Singapore at the outrageous Marina Bay Sands Hotel, we joined the Silver Spirit: as always with Silversea, embarkation was a breeze and we were onboard drinking a welcome glass of champagne within minutes - and the suites were ready for occupancy which was a nice surprise! After a quick lunch, our bags appeared, our Butler stopped by our Suite to go over preferences, restaurant reservations were re-confirmed and we were "Good to go". Silversea does do this very well: embarkation is effortless. This was our first cruise on the Spirit since she had her make-over and she looks great. The décor is new, bright and fresh and very similar in style to Silver Muse. Arts Café is a wonderful new addition, La Terrazza has grown in size making breakfast service much easier during the pre-tour rush hour, and the restaurants on Deck Four have been updated and look great. The Silver Spirit looks like new ship. Our Suite was wonderful: Silver Suites on the Spirit are so roomy and comfortable with every possible amenity provided - our location on Deck 10 was both quiet and convenient. The décor in all suites has also been freshened and everything looks lighter and more modern - they did a good job with the update. Thankfully, the beautiful marble bathrooms remain. Service on the Spirit was extraordinary: while we always enjoy excellent service on SIlversea vessels, this cruise was over-the-top excellent - maybe because we knew many of the crew members or maybe because the ship was only about 80% full or maybe because this crew was terrific - it does not matter, the service was wonderful and any and all requests were happily and graciously accommodated. Our Butler (Ronaldo) was amazing, the dining room captains (especially Rajiv, Andy and Julia) were just lovely, and everyone including the front desk team went out of their way to accommodate and assist us. The food was very good: we are still adjusting to the multiple restaurant arrangement on the "larger" Silversea ships (honestly, we loved the Main Dining Room and miss it) but we did enjoy eating at the different venues. The food and service was good throughout the ship: our evening at La Dame was memorable, La Terrazza for dinner (both inside and outside) was delightful, the steaks were great at the Grill and we love the tastes at Indochine. We enjoyed our evening at Silver Note and found the food "interesting" - the tasting menu has evolved once again and its a unique experience although not exactly to our tastes. Breakfasts and lunches at La Terrazza were wonderful with lots and lots of variety, the Grill for lunch works just fine and the Pizza onboard is delicious. Trust me, we ate well. We liked that Atlantide now has a hybrid menu - daily offerings (like the old Main Dining Room) plus standard items (the always available menu) - this increases variety. Menus at Indochine and La Terrazza changed every 3 or 4 days which is also very nice. And, caviar is back and available every night at Atlantide! We were impressed with the Cruise Director and entertainers on this cruise - they were all sharp and worked hard. Also, they were out and about and interacting with the passengers....something that we have not seen in a while. It made for a very pleasant atmosphere onboard. Seriously, one does not select Silversea for entertainment and nightlife but this group did a great job in keeping the passengers busy and entertained. There were several shows, lectures, guest performers, etc. - perfect for the small ship atmosphere. And, the Death By Chocolate night on deck is a very nice addition and was delightful. The itinerary was wonderful and we enjoyed all of the ports visited: Koh Samui is a beautiful resort island, Laem Chabang for Pattaya and mind-boggling Bangkok, two overnights in Ho Chi Mihn City allowed for lots of touring of this developing city and a visit to the Mekong Delta, Chan May allowed a visit to Da Nang, China Beach and Hoi An, Halong Bay was simply spectacular and Hong Kong was a wonderful conclusion to this cruise. We saw so much. There was some talk onboard about the Silver Spirit's docking location: firstly, Silversea does the best that they can......but the reality is that the Spirit is bigger that the Shadow or the Wind and therefore cannot access the inner city ports in Ho Chi Mihn City or Bangkok. With the Spirit, Laem Chabang is used for Bangkok and it is a 2 hour drive into the city, in Ho Chi Mihn City, we used Heip Phouc which is about 45 minutes from the city center (its far better than the port used by mega ships that is 3 hours from the city) and Chan May is about 45 minutes from Danang. All ports are industrial and are located in the middle of no where - its vitally important that you have tours and plans and arrangements for each port of call or you will be disappointed. As mentioned, Silversea does the best that they can (and shuttle busses were available at all ports) but the docking locations are not ideal and not attractive on this particular itinerary. We organize our own private tours at each port: they were wonderful and we saw so much and had such a good time. Silversea had a good selection of tours available but we prefer to tour on our own at a quicker pace than offered by the ship tours. The cruise concluded in Hong Kong with an overnight at the "old" Ocean Terminal which was ideal; we were basically docked in the middle of the exciting Hong Kong harbor with front row seats for the Sound and Light Show (dinner on the terrace of La Terrazza that evening was very special indeed) and we had the "million dollar" view of the Hong Kong skyline from our suite. It was truly spectacular. Disembarkation was easy and simple with our private car waiting for us as we exited the terminal. We spent a couple of past cruise days in Hong Kong which were wonderful (and thankfully no problems due to the current issues going on there) and did a great daytrip via Jetfoil to Macau. In all, a memorable and wonderful vacation. Will we go again? We are already planning. The Med in the Summer and either the Muse from Bali to Sydney (December) or the Moon from Fort Lauderdale to Lima (November). We always enjoy our cruises on Silversea and can't wait to return! Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. No lines to stand in, was great. On arrival we were met with a glass of champagne and and escorted to our room. Our butler Terrance was excellent, nothing was too much trouble for him. We had dinner in our room on a few occasions and the menu to chose from was very varied. Our room attendant Baby Vipin always kept our room spotless. I can not complain about the food at all. The waiters were always polite and nothing was too much trouble for them. A special thankyou to the staff at The Grill who always made us laugh and whom we could joke with. Mind you the staff every where were great. There were no public rooms that were ever crowded and you always greeted with smiles. Nothing was too much trouble for them. On one occasion only i did not like a particular red wine. It was replaced with a different one to our liking. We have been on a few cruises but i have to admit this cruise line stands above them all. It has spoilt us now that we will only sail with them again. A BIG thank you to them all. LOVED IT Read Less

This was our first with Silversea & was a recommendation from some dear friends who had cruised other comparable lines. We found an itinerary we liked and called Silversea directly. Our experience with our agent,Lazaro, was one of the most professional we had experienced. He was well informed and helped guide us through the process from beginning to end. The cruise itself, Singapore to Hong Kong was delightful despite rough seas on day 1. Air arrangements, hotel and transportation were exactly as one would expect for a trip of this magnitude. Boarding the ship, immigration, were all seamlessly done. Meeting our butler, Nishin and cabin steward was a pleasure as compared to other ships where you might not get to meet them until the ship is underway. They took care of all our needs as requested and offered assistance in anticipation of any query we may have had. The Silver Spirit is not a terribly large ship which was to our liking. It didn't take long to navigate around the decks. The stairwells and walkways are graced with beautiful artwork and sculptures as are the restaurants and public venues and lounges throughout the ship. There are various restaurants one can choose from and making reservations was rather simple: Do it yourself or ask your butler. There was enough variation in the menus that one could find something different to have each night. A plus on this line is availability of room service 24 hours a day. Just ask your butler. They will will be delighted to serve you in your cabin course by course. A great cruise line with superb and caring staff. Next stop on Silver Moon, South America. Read Less

First cruised onboard theSilver Cloud many, many years ago and we wanted to try another Silver Sea cruise. Silver Muse had the right itinerary and well, she did not disappoint. The entire experience was excellent, the accommodations spacious and understated elegance, the service was outstanding. We had multiple dining options and all were good in their own right. Most of the staff were personable and went out of their way to accommodate our needs- we were a large group, 14 adults and a baby. The entertainment was average, but we really wanted to do a relaxed cruise so we really did not mind that. embark/disembark- at Marina Bay Cruise Center (Singapore), from luggage drop off tot he welcome champagne in the lobby of the ship was 15 minutes at most. cabin- see below dining- we tried each of the restaurants at least twice and all were excellent. The service and attention was great. My favorites were Atlantide and the outdoor grilling were you prepare your own dish on hot rocks. The buffet area for breakfast and lunch was converted into an italian-themed restaurant at night. excursions- Silversea had several excursions that were complimentary, you get to reserve this in advance before the cruise. The more personalized options, you had to pay for. Would highly recommend this cruise. looking forward to the next SS cruise. Read Less

We are regular cruisers and have sailed on many different lines like Celebrity, RCCL, Princess, P&O, NCL and Carnival, however, this was our first cruise on a smaller ship. The combination of a good price for the cruise and an interesting itinerary made it attractive to book this holiday. We were certainly not disappointed with our first Silversea experience! The ship was immaculate and had generous public areas. The cabin (a Classic Veranda Suite) was luxuriously appointed with plenty of space. The walk in wardrobe was an excellent size and there was more than enough storage space for luggage. The bathroom was lovely with a full size bath and separate shower. The bed was comfy and the seating area spacious. The only minor criticism was there were no non smoked glass mirrors in the cabin. It would have been useful to have a normal mirror near the balcony door. The food in the restaurants was excellent quality as were the drinks. There were several very good restaurants to choose from and we enjoyed the ability to dine in different venues during the cruise. We particualry liked the Italian themed 'La Terrazza' which served delicious food and you could enjoy this al fresco on the deck. One thing we particularly liked was that because there were less passengers than on the larger ships, we were able to go to the buffets and not feel crowded, there was always a waiter to help you find a free table and offer to take your food for you. It was really lovely to always find a table outside to dine. The entertainment on the ship was not as 'full on' as on the larger ships we had been on but we were never bored. The shows in the Venetian Lounge involved the Silversea Singers, instrumentalists and when we were in Kota Kinabalu a local dance troupe and instrumentalists came on board and performed an excellent show. We also enjoyed dancing the night away in the Panorama Lounge and had fun at a karaoke night! The deck party was good fun and also during the day there was great food served at tables by the pool. In the evening the area around the pool became the 'Hot Rocks' restaurant where you could cook your own meat/fish on hot volcanic rocks. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We also met many friendly passengers, on several evenings we would arrange to meet up and go to dinner with new friends. We were so impressed with the Silversea brand that we decided to book a future cruise on the Silver Shadow. Read Less

Silversea advertised a series of Asia cruises with their "Far More in the Far East" special, and wow, did it deliver. I chose this Singapore-to-Hong Kong voyage for several reasons: the timing worked for me, I liked the balance of ports and sea days, the itinerary would take me to so many places I've never been but have longed to visit, and the Silversea specials put this all-inclusive luxury voyage comfortably in my price range ($1000 air credit, $1000 onboard credit, most excursions included, 5% discount for previous SS travelers, 5% discount for booking onboard a previous cruise, and then a surprise 3-category upgrade just a few days before sailing -- it all added up to a reasonable price). The Shadow is one of the older ships in the fleet, but she is graceful and well maintained. After previously sailing on her smaller sibling, the Wind, the Shadow at first seemed so much larger. Within a day, that feeling diminished and she seemed perfect to me. My suite seemed bigger than I expected, although the pool seemed smaller than expected. On this particular voyage, we had spectacular weather until the final few days, and the pool deck was filled to capacity. There were short waits (under 5 minutes) for the morning buffet at popular times on port days, but generally passengers were well distributed throughout the ship. It was easy to find quiet places to sit, or more active places for company. Embarkation in Singapore is odd simply because you have to walk through a mall to reach the desk. Once in Silversea's hands, however, the process was easy and pleasant -- under 10 minutes from starting the process to sitting in the Panorama Lounge enjoying my 2nd glass of welcome bubbly. I dined at every possible venue, preferring La Terrazza for breakfast (waiters will bring you eggs to order and cappuccino, but everything else comes from the vast buffet). My meal in the upcharge La Dame was as extraordinary as advertised, while two dinners at the casual Hot Rocks were good fun with good company. The Restaurant does include a small selection of regional selections every night, and I found they were nicely done -- especially the lemongrass beef. Over the 2 weeks, I dined in La Tarrazza for dinner on 4 occasions, always enjoying the upscale Italian cuisine and handmade pastas. As others have said, luxury trappings are nice, but it is the warmth and professionalism of the crew that make Silversea so special. Without exception, every staff member on board was at the top of their game, remembering names and orders, anticipating wants or needs, offering a compliment or a steady arm, making conversation with real connections, sharing insights from their homelands. I found this to be true throughout the ranks: from the captain to the room attendant, from the wait staff to the officers, from the earnest care of the butlers to the often invisible work of the maintenance crew and accountants. Of everything on this near-perfect voyage, I think I will miss the crew the most. Would I go again? Yes. And I would enthusiastically recommend it to others. Read Less

The Hong Kong-Vietnam-Bangkok-Singapore cruise on Silversea Shadow was outstanding in every way..food, service, ship, butler, excursions pre and post hotels. The ship is older but in very good condition. I have been on 9 SS cruises on 5 of their ships and all are just as good. I find no reason for many of the rants in other posts. I am very particular and have experienced nothing but excellence once on the ship. I am not looking for zip lines, golf courses, wave pools or kids running around on a ship. They are willing to do anything you request. There are no lines except is the entire ship disembarks at the same time like in St Petersburg at the port where Russian authorities required everybody to be cleared with their documents. The entertainment is average but it is not Las Vegas. The performers are good but the content they are given is fair. Most cruise lines use the same outsourced company for entertainers so it is no different elsewhere. Read Less

This was my first experience with Silversea, having travelled with around a dozen other cruise lines over the decades. Silversea wins hands down! I had the lowest (and presumably the lowliest) of cabins (428), which I jokingly referred to as being 'below the Plimsoll Line.' It was incredibly spacious, with a huge and comfortable bed, lounge suite and two armchairs, walk in robe and ample storage, a bathroom larger than my own, desk, coffee table, further mirrored ledges, and a generous ocean view. The toiletries were Bvulgari, the in-suite fridge stocked and replenished with beverages of my choice, VIP treatment from both the butler and his assistant, who despite being totally professional, felt like 'family' throughout. I also appreciated the daily newspaper, plus bulletins from my part of the world, and having the nearby laundrette was fantastic. Given my predilection for cruising - and my love of food - I reckon I'm qualified to judge the variety of menu options across Silversea's several restaurants, the quality and generosity of the servings, and the high standard of the wait staff as outstanding. Special requests were honoured when necessary, preferred wines freely offered if those chosen daily were not to your liking, imaginative and delicious cocktails always available. My late husband and I have been guilty on many an occasion of eschewing a voyage's entertainment in favour of sleep. I'm so glad I didn't on the Silver Shadow. Their entertainers were fantastic: both the onboard team and the guest saxophonist and the cello duo. Cruise Director Moss brought the house down with his own show one night. Accolades also to the wonderful pianist who never seemed to sleep, and the resident band whose musical repertoire knew no boundaries. I selfishly enjoyed many hours playing bridge (the card game, not the control centre!) and afternoon trivia with a bunch of fellow voyagers. At no time did I feel lonely as a solo traveller. Every single member of the Silver Shadow's crew went out of their way to be welcoming, kind, friendly and helpful. Extraordinary training and personal enthusiasm must lie behind their exemplary and personalised customer service skills. Acts of God brought undone our scheduled itinerary, but the ship's personnel from top to bottom all coped well and cheerfully carried on (unlike some of their guests whose plans had been scuttled in order to save their lives!). This has been a most wonderful introduction to my future relationship with Silversea. Read Less

My review: THE SILVERSEA – SILVER MUSE. The Silver Muse is simply a brilliant ship (the best I have ever sailed on) along with its excellent crew and all of its on-board facilities. It lierally floats on the ocean like a dream with its stabilizers holding it with almost no movement awareness on board. Its 8 restaurants are all magnificently appointed with the best food at sea (beats Oceania by at least 10 points), wherever you turn the luxury of this ship is outstanding from its beautifully furnished and super spacious all-suite accommodation to it many lounges, good sized theatre, easy access staircases, several lifts, library and its many comfort areas and cocktail bars. A delightful pool and spa with its waiter cocktail service for all guests is all a part of this incredible ship that carries around 600 passengers and maybe 400 crew, and a brilliant cruise director, the best we have ever experienced. You can be assured that your every whim is catered for, as a person you are not just another passenger, you are the most important person on board, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, the concierge and the super friendly crew. As a frequent cruiser who has travelled the world on most other cruise lines and their ships, this would have to be the ultimate in cruising and most certainly worth a 6-star - or better rating. Initially we were a little hesitant about booking this particular cruise because of its Asian ports itinerary that had been selected. Being honest the ports are not the best, but with the ambience of the ship you soon forget the ports and the on-shore excursions where one gets stuck in the traffic jams of Djakarta etc. One terrific port of call was a virtual desert Island off Java with only 80 permanent residents where the ship tenders were required, but the crew and facilities provided were just incredible. Lunch, free drinks and entertainment was all shipped ashore by the incredible crew to give guests a true desert island experience. I should mention this is a completely independent assessment, I am not being paid or receiving any benefit from anyone, this is my own opinion having recently returned from an 8-day cruise on this magnificent ship between Singapore and Bali, Indonesia. If you enjoy cruising, whatever you do, don't pass on the Silversea, Silver Muse, she would have to be the most impressive ship sailing the oceans today. Read Less

I thought the nightly shows were good and well produced. The cruise director Moss did a great job keeping everyone informed of daily activities and updates. I enjoyed the travel series type lectures by Peter LaSorsa, as I learned a great deal of useful information. The other lecture series on destinations was also informative. My butler was amazing and it really adds a great touch to the cruise. I found the laundry facilities to be fine and not too crowded. I also enjoyed listening to the two talented musicians onboard. Vlad on guitar and Alexsandra on piano. They are both so talented. I could listen to both all day. On most days Alexsandra also played piano during the tea hour which was wonderful. I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line. Read Less

I picked this cruise line as I was travelling alone and wanted to be pampered and safe. The single supplement was a reasonable 25%. The itinerary was exciting and I enjoyed every port of call. The excursions were great with very comfortable coaches and knowledgeable guides. There were a great variety of different options, with the majority included in the cost of the cruise. I also had a day before the cruise in an amazing 5*hotel. Had a little time to explore before embarking and a couple of days in Singapore after the cruise as I had a late night flight home. Embarkation was smooth as I needed wheelchair assistance as I can’t stand for long periods of time. I’ve had to select ‘Yes’ for travelling with children as this system would not accept the ‘NO’ option????? I did not have children with me. The ship and crew were even more magnificent than I had thought. I do have one major complaint (see lower down - nothing to do with onboard staff) The food was incredible and the wines and cocktails perfect. There were lots of different options for eating and lots of choice on each menu so all tastes were catered for. If anyone had specific dietary requirements then nothing was too much trouble. Nowhere was crowded so I always felt that I had space to myself if I wanted it. However- there were always opportun ities to mix with other guests. Everyone you met on corridors, lifts, poolside and lounges said hello and chatted about the wonderful time they were having. I met many lovely fellow passengers and will stay in touch and we hope to be able to visit each other. After a couple days the staff on board knew your name and they were always smiling and so helpful. The ‘Voices of the Muse’ were very, very talented as were the other entertainers. No matter what type of music you liked you could enjoy it somewhere on board. The pool is excellent and also very pretty. In fact all of the ship is even better than photos show. I had such a great time that I wanted to stay on for the next leg of the cruise- ending in Bali. This is where my only area of complaint comes in. Even though the ship was just a little over half full SilverSea initially would not offer any discount at all! The onboard Cruise Director made several more phone calls but the most that SilverSea would do was to take a measly £200 off the cost of the cruise AND I would have to arrange my own flights home on top! I felt that was a very mean offer and said no. I don’t understand why they could not offer a reasonable deal when there was soooo much suite availability. I wasn’t asking for a free cruise- I was prepared to pay a reasonable amount but there was just no flexibility at all. So - overall - the cruise was simply amazing, over and above anything you could imagine and the crew from Captain down to every other person on board were outstanding but staff at head office very unhelpful when I asked to stay on. This is our 6th Silversea cruise, we have sailed on several other cruise lines but SS for the most part. When the Muse was launched, we knew we had to go on it! Something new and hopefully fresh and different from previous cruises. Now that may seem like a negative about previous cruises, but not exactly. Silversea was my first cruise ever and has always held a special place in my heart but after a few cruises, we felt like maybe we didn’t exactly fit in with their usual clientele. Hence, we started exploring other cruise lines to see what else is out there. We are American 46 and 51...a bit on the young side for Silversea. In the past, the cruise demographic never seemed very varied. Primarily Brits , over the age of 70. We had felt that the social life on board was pretty quiet and reserved. Not as friendly as we would like. Well, the Muse blew that out of the water. I dont know if its because of the new ship, bigger size, the itinerary, different marketing?? I dont know, but it was a vast improvement. Super friendly, outgoing, social folks everywhere. There was definitely a livelier vibe on the ship , really good energy that I hadn’t felt on SS before. EMBARKATION: So we flew from Florida to Singapore to board the ship. We spent 3 nights at the Mandarin Oriental in Singapore first. We love SIN and were happy to spend a few days there. We couldn’t find any info from Silversea on which port they use in Singapore. It was pretty frustrating not knowing where to go. We finally looked at cruisemapper to locate the ship. If the info was printed somewhere, we sure couldn’t find it. Otherwise, embarkation was quick and easy like always. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: We LOVE this new ship and hopefully this new design is reflected in future ships and refurbishments of the old ships. The other ships we had done were classy, elegant, but the kind you find at a wealthy grandmas house . It was fine, but a bit dark and not our cup of tea. This new design is gorgeous. Loved the colors, textures, materials. Loved the use of wood looking tile for bathrooms, and many public spaces. The ship is bright, the lighting is great . Very well done! We were getting pretty excited about this trip! Cabins werent ready, so our routine is to eat lunch at the pool grill. Menu had finally been changed and expanded. I ordered the BBQ chicken wrap but didnt care for it at all ,although my partner loved his?? So....? After lunch, we explored the ship and shortly thereafter we went to our cabin. The ship is just gorgeous! CABIN: Typical veranda stateroom size which suits us just fine. Again, it echos the rest of the ship, just beautiful. Lots of storage space, big deep drawers. Lots of counter space in living room area. I don’t like the 2 TVs in the mirror in the living area and the other in front of the bedroom. They are too difficult to see unless the lights are off and curtains pulled. Our other complaint and really biggest complaint is the mattress...so hard! Like really hard! My back was killing me so bad. We requested the egg shell foam thing they can put under the sheets, but apparently there were no more available. Obviously we werent the only ones that thought the beds were hard. The awesome suite attendant put 2 duvets under the sheets and it was more comfortable for the rest of the trip. DINING: I was stressing over this honesty. Food had been hit or miss on past cruises. And not having a main dining room per se, I wasnt sure how all these individual restaurants would work out for us. Atlantide: we ate here twice, first time the filet mignon was cooked to perfection, so delicious and tender, the 2nd time it was over cooked and I didnt care for it. Otherwise both dinners were very good. We also started eating here for breakfast rather than the buffet at La Terraza. It was quieter, more civilized , I dont care for buffets much anyway, food was hotter and service excellent. I highly recommend it, not many folks ate here each morning. Indochine: we ate here twice as well. Restaurant is gorgeous ! Loved the decor. Was never crowded. Food was so good. This is the only restaurant that we heard from a few other passengers that felt like the food was so so....but we didnt find that at all and really enjoyed it ! La Terrazza: we ate here twice for dinner as well. Much lighter and brighter than on other ships. Felt like food was much better and so was service. They had an amazing gnocchi and ossobucco that was to die for! We did breakfast here a couple times until we found Atlantide ...much prefer blast there. We were happy to see that SS could finally get us a cup of coffee before we finished our breakfast! This was something that happened a lot on other ships, very slow coffee service. We had lunch here a couple times, buffet is fine...nothing too exciting. Seabourn does it better. Kaiseki: Ate here once as its $60 per person. It was way too much food for us. It was all very good, but the service takes too long for us and we couldn’t finish most things. As much we enjoyed the food, we wouldn’t do it again at $60/person. La Dame: Did this once...also $60 person. We had eaten at La Champagne on our first cruise years ago, but now it s called La Dame. There was much better selection of items than previous La Champagne restaurant . We really enjoyed it, food wasn’t too much, didnt feel overly stuffed. We really loved it and had wonderful folks sitting next to us that entertained us..again, everyone was so friendly and like to strike up conversations with us at nearly every meal. Silver Note; didnt try it this cruise . Spaccanapoli: we were super tired after a 12 hour excursion to Hanoi, so we got back late and just went for casual pizza night. It was sooo good! And we were the only ones there that night. Its super popular and packed during the day for lunch but for some reason people avoid it at night? Pool Grill: Did this once. We have cooked our steaks many times on the hot rocks, so we dont do it anymore. I prefer someone else cook my dinner. Steak was excellent as were the sides. It was pretty chilly and we had to move our table as it got drizzly , but still a nice night. ENTERTAINMENT AND ACTIVITIES: We dont play shuffle board or bridge or trivia or any of that. We did go to a couple lectures by an amazing guy who did lectures on Vietnam...he was one of the best lecturers I have ever heard. Guests talked about him all the time every day on the ship. Everyone thought he was fascinating, and his material moved at a good pace. He was phenomenal! We usually try to hit the casino but didnt make it in . We peeked in one night, it was very quiet and notthat big. SHOPS: Well unless you are in the market for jewelry or a lady, not much there for men . A handful of things, terrible marketing for Silversea. Just lousy for men or people that even want a few souvenirs or snacks or something. Lame. SERVICE: Was very good. We were fortunate to recognize some staff that we have sailed with before on other SS ships. It s like seeing family you haven’t seen in a long time. Always made us feel welcome..so warm and gracious. Really couldn’t fault anyone . Staff seems to really be happy on this ship and they will tell you how much they love it. I imagine a new ship is more user friendly, things dont break etc. Plus they have bars in every restaurant now..so smart. Before they would have to run front the restaurants to the main bar to get a cocktail for you if you didn’t want wine. PORTS AND EXCURSIONS: Well, I could write tons on this but I will just say please book a trip to Vietnam ! It was fantastic! We got our own guilds for Saigon, but did ship excursions for others ports. Such a fascinating country! FINAL THOUGHTS: This cruise renewed our excitement and interest in Silversea again! We loved the ship and will look for future cruiees primarily on the Muse or any of the newer ones. This ship really suited our style. The passenger demographic was much more diverse. There were people from all over , not one nationality seemed to prevail. There was also a better age mix than previous SS cruises. The vibe and energy on the ship was great and seemed a bit more relaxed than previous stuffy cruises we have done in the past. Hopefully this trend will continue. Read Less

I returned to Silversea after four years (having been unable to travel in that time) and as a solo traveller for the first time - it was like coming home, from the initial warm welcome, the brilliant service, superb food (much improved since last time), lovely butler service (thank you Gideon), as much champagne as I could drink - yes Silver Shadow is a little tired in places but it is still very much a five star experience. With only once exception the on shore tours were well organised and good value. I didn't bother with the solo travellers get together after the first night as it was so easy to get to know people and I didn't have a single evening where I needed to eat on my own. The joy of small ship cruising! It was good to see some old faces on board like Kirk the Cruise Director and Anita Labs on the shore concierge desk - and lots of passengers were booking future cruises which proves to me that Silversea are still doing things right for their discerning customer base. We choose this cruise sailing from Singapore via Vietnam to Hong Kong because Silversea was fully inclusive ( no nasty bill surprises) and drinks included where not limited in anyway to cheap brands, great chocolate martini in bar area. Our butler was very good, what a luxury wish I could of taking him home. We where getting a little worried when I saw other reviews saying that the Silver Shadow was old and in poor condition, I have to say that we had a very good experience, our cabin was very clean and no sign of wear and tear as other reviews had suggested, the staff were very attentive and the food was very good apart from La Dame which was disappointing ( maybe because the food was so good elsewhere). The shore excursions where a little dull (Vietnam) but I guess they is only so much you can see near the coastline. Entertainment was good, Disembarkation was well organised. Have already booked another cruise for next year. Read Less

Our overall impression of the Silver Whisper was amazing. The services were excellent. We had a wonderful butler and maid. The attention to every detail made us feel very special. The food was amazing and all our waiters were quite efficient as well as entertaining. The ports were places we never dreamed of seeing and experiencing. We would definitely recommend the Silver Seas. The only comment on the negative side would be that our ship did not have a gift shop for sundry items and logo wear from Silver Seas. The gifts shop on board carried lovely specialized gifts and apparell. We particularly enjoyed the two shows that were scheduled earlier in the evening (6:45 pm). We found it difficult to stay up for show at 10pm after having such wonderful dinners. Our excursions took us to the places we really wanted to see. Some had extensive travel in the vans but could not be helped. Read Less

Pick the finest hotel and place it on a boat. You are welcomed and within a day the entire crew addresses you by name. Clean, outstanding food choices, wonderful products and towels, outstanding crew and the facilities are beyond first class. There is so much to do on a "sea day." You can relax or stay as busy as you desire. Everything is included so that you do not need to worry about extra costs or tipping except if you take an excursion. Embarkation and disembarkation is smooth and seamless. What a wonderful experience. We have experienced Silverseas prior to this one that went to Southeast Asia. Already we are planning to take the entire family away next year. i want my family to experience luxury on the sea, while staying in shape, eating with great options and experiencing the world with excursions. Nothing could be better! I cannot see trying another line. Read Less

For us, Hong Kong is always worth a visit and starting a cruise there seemed a good idea. Departing from the Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong was a fantastic and unforgettable experience. The itinerary of this cruise through the South China Sea was very attractive. Manila, Coron, Porto Princessa, Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu, Brunei and Singapore. Only Manila we found disappointing, despite its beautiful location; but all the other landfalls were amazing and worth the visit. The Silver Shadow could use some renovation, but the crew makes up for this in providing an outstanding service. Butler service couldn't be better and the food in the different restaurants was really good. The french food and beverage manager, Nicolas Longin, was very much present and it showed. We both are vegetarian and had no problems finding something delicious. One advantage of the Shadow being an older ship, its bathrooms still have two sinks and handy single lever mixers for comfortable control over dosing and tempering the water. The furniture in the suites look worn and the old flat tv's should be replaced; for us personally, this is not a problem, as we always turn the tv off. We rate this cruise excellent for its crew, the food and most importantly for the small number of passengers. This is getting more difficult, even Silver Sea ships get bigger; more and bigger doesn't sound better to us. We prefer and love the smaller vessels with fewer passengers. Read Less

Anyone who has been following Silver Shadow's reviews on Cruise Critic, must have had second thoughts . The complaints escalated and the stars dropped. Having just returned from one of the finest cruising experiences I have ever enjoyed, I must protest! I will grant you that what others see as old fashioned and in need of a makeover, I see as a patina, a graceful lady who takes very good care of herself. I never once suffered a bed that wasn't anything but pure comfort. The upholstery was out of date? Good grief, is that why you took the cruise ? For the upholstery? I'd strongly recommend buying pashminas at your first port of call. I am quite sure that in addition to all the myriad services the Butler provides you, he has likely been trained as a draper who will artfully cover the offensive sofa with the same kind of panache he brings to your breakfasts in bed or the bath he'll draw you at the end of a long day ashore. The service on Silver Sea is simply heaven on earth. Every single crewmember is at your beck and call whenever you need anything. The ship is so well staffed that you never have to wait for a single thing. And the fact that every single drink, every glass of wine, every soft drink and water is at your beck and call and all included in one fare is just another reason to love Silver Shadown There's enough variety in the various restaurants that the pickiest eaters can find favorites like superb pasta in La Terrazza, and stone-grilled meats at Grill by the Pool that are excellent. Pastries and desserts are particularly good everywhere aboard ship. The dining experiences are as varied as you mood. Opt for formal breakfast service in the Dining Room or catch the morning breezes on the deck outside La Terrazza. The intimate size of the ship lacks for nothing but makes it possible to meet its truly international passenger complement is dozens of ways. The line attracts some wonderful travellers from all over the world. Aboard ship and ashore conversations start easily, common interests forge friendships. My nine day itinerary from Singapore to Vietnam to Hong Kong was an education in and of itself. Two superb experts, one on the Vietnam War the other on Photography and Sea Eploration were a highlight of the trip. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this wonderful experience. I've always wanted to see the Philippines and Borneo and Silversea offered an interesting itinerary visiting these places. And as usual Silversea and especially their crew went beyond anything to make this trip a memorable one. I read a few complaints that the Shadow is old. No she is not. It is a beautiful ship and still in a very good shape. Yes there might be a few things that need a bit of attention but nothing serious. And if I go on a ship that has been build 18 years ago I do not expect a brand new vessel. My cabin was in excellent condition, well taken care of by the butler and suite attendant. I never had to ask for anything because everything was there. Dining was fantastic wherever I went. I loved having dinner by the pool. And food was also really good in the Main Dining Room and La Terrazza. The service - this crew is amazing. No matter if it was in one of the bars, in the dining room, at reception or elsewhere. They were always smiling, helpful and I never heard them saying no. The entertainment team together with Cruise Director Moss were fantastic. I loved their shows (and if you have ever the chance to see Moss show - don't miss it - I could watch it over and over again). And the singers were also always around chatting to people, and they all have amazing voices. I know one thing - if I could go on a cruise tomorrow again I would go right away Read Less

WE have sailed 4 times with Silversea. Twice in the Silver Cloud (before becoming a expidition ship) and twice on the Silver Spirit (before the latest refurb.). We sailed from Mumbai to Dubai. As usual the Silversea staff was attentive and our cabin butler was offered excellent services. The cabin was larger and clean. The dining room service and food were excellent and the wait service attentive and the food, as always, we excellent. The itinerary met all of our requirements and the excursions offered covered much of what one would want to see. At some ports we chose to hire a cab to take us around. We found the drivers very willing and their prices reasonable. Just make sure you agree on a price prior to beginning. This is not a ship to take children and that includes teenagers. Small ships have limited entertainment facilities and The are other curise lines better suited to handling children. Read Less

Several Silversea cruises. The service and food are back up to the standards I expect. One of the lecturers was outstanding and one was so so. The entertainment was great--including an amazing performance by the Cruise Director. There were very accomplished entertainers--and they were featured individually as well as in a group setting. The food was excellent and wines were good. The service in the main dining room was outstanding. Some of the ports of call were quite interesting, although I think I'm done with super hot climates! Myanmar was disappointing--somehow we expected it to be a charming colonial place and weren't prepared for the level of poverty. The port was an hour (or more) from Yangon, so it felt like we spend a lot of time on a bus. The surrounding areas were extremely poor and covered with more litter than I've seen anywhere in my travels! Yangon was also a little disappointing--again not up to my idealized expectations! We picked it for a special occasion and it started off exceptionally well with the initial boarding. No long waits - just straight on board and although the rooms were ready yet for obvious reasons, they had the restaurants and pool bar at full service for lunch and drinks while you waited.Butler service to all rooms was an enjoyable luxury and we had an amazing butler who couldn't do enough for us. Verandah Suite Category 4 (924) was spacious and comfortable with a large walk in robe which was unexpected. As a long of the passengers were older than us, the entertainment was more down key and could have used a little enlivening at times but the Entertainment staff were professionals and very talented especially the Cruise Director and the Resident Guitarist. We had dinner at La Dame and found it exceptional, the food was amazing. Slightly baffled by the fact the name hadn't changed from La Champagne and when I mentioned this in the mid-cruise feedback - it appeared to be rectified overnight at least on the restaurant doors. You'd have to be extremely fussy to fault the availability and quality of the food and drink on board. All the restaurants changed their menus daily and the food was freshly prepared. The staff worked hard to ensure that all passengers had a great cruise and we are looking forward to going on another cruise with Silverseas as soon as we can. They also have the advantage of other ships and other cruises around the world so there will be something for everyone. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of itinerary and Silversea reputation. Upon arrival in Singapore (pre-cruise program) we were met at the door of our hotel by Silversea Ambassador, Ni, who ultimately was the most exceptional ambassador that we have ever encountered. She arranged for early check-in and made outstanding suggestions and reservations for the days we were in Singapore. On the ship (Silver Shadow), our Butler, Guest Relations Manager, Wait Staff and Officers all provided outstanding service. My husband had an unfortunate accident on the first day of the cruise (tripped on broken curb getting off tour bus and broke his ankle) so our cruise was cut short but everyone on the ship could not have been more attentive and helpful - even the Captain sent chocolates with a "Get Well Soon" message. From a service standpoint, Silversea provided the best service we have ever encountered. As we have a food blog, we were disappointed that we were unable to experience the Specialty Dining options onboard as we had to leave the cruise early. We'll try Silversea again - just for the service! Read Less

I chose this cruise to join a family group. It was my 6th cruise but first on Silversea. It was the best cruise ever. The service, crew and entertainment was outstanding. I loved the smaller venue which allowed us to get to know the other guests and staff. This made the time on board very friendly and personable. I felt so welcomed and special from the time we boarded until we disembarked. The prepaid tours were excellent giving us an excellent insight at all sites. Sue the excursion director was helpful in last minute changes which allowed us to see the super bowl and not miss a tour that was top on our list. The cruise director Mr Moss went out of his way to advise us on the availability of watching the super bowl. His personal show was one of the best performances. However it should be presented on a night at sea so you can’t miss it. We came in at the end after attending a fabulous on ground evening excursion. Kennan our butler went above and beyond to serve us. I miss him so much!!!! The entertainment had something for everyone. There were activities I missed only because of enjoying the spa or pool or just laughing with new found friends. I can’t wait to sail again on Silversea!!,, Read Less

We chose this particular cruise due to its itinerary. Due to some negative reviews I was becoming increasingly concerned regarding the ships presentation. I should not have worried, the ship was in my view well presented, yes, it is showing some wear, however like a good bottle of wine is is aging well. The ships restaurants provided a varied menu, our favourite was however ‘Hot Rocks’ the cuts of meat were excellent, it was a great experience, so much so that out of our 9 night voyage we ate there 5 times. The ships crew at this venue were outstanding in particular Glenn, who ensured our glasses were always full and we wanted for nothing. We had thee points of call on this trip, all of which offered differing experiences, the highlight being Ho Chi Minh city which was a pleasant and immersive assault on the senses. The cruise director Moss was excellent, keeping the guests informed as to the days acrivities, he was both personable and was always interacting with the guests. On the formal night I noticed that I had forgotten to bring my shirt studs with me. To my relief Moss kindly found some suitable alternatives. The only down side of this cruise was having to leave the ship in Singapore. Would I sail Silversea again? ...absolutely. Would I sail on Silver Shadow....without hesitation. Read Less
