I have cruised with NCL a handful of times, and have always been satisfied with the value for your money. This would be my first trip where I don’t feel that way. To be fair, the weather can never be predicted - but other cruises I have been on with inclement weather seemed to have better contingency plans. I haven’t cruised on a ship this small or old before, so I definitely will book any future cruises based more off of the ship vs the dates and destinations. The ship feels very old, and the rough waters during this cruise were unbearable. I never get sea sick, but there were plates flying on the floor in the restaurants and my closet door even swung open and broke off of the hinges due to the turbulence. The power went out in the casino as I walked through, and even some of the crew members called in sick due to extreme conditions. The outside areas of the ship were virtually useless for a majority of the trip, so most events were moved to the crowded Bliss Lounge. There wasn’t a lot of entertainment on the ship, with the exception of Bingo, Deal or No Deal, board games, and a comedian. Many of the locations and activities didn’t have active servers during the events, like most NCL cruises I have been on before. Some areas even had the bars closed during events, making it inconvenient for our travel party. On day 2, my husband booked an eyebrow wax at the spa. We have done this on other NCL cruises, and he gets them at home every 4-6 weeks. The spa employee completely ripped the skin off of the top and bottom of both brows. Either the wax was too hot or the technique was incorrect, but my husband had scabs around his eyes from day 2 through disembarking. We did show the spa manager, and he was very concerned and conceded that it had to have been a technique issue. He refunded the service, but my husband was forced to wear sunglasses for the remainder of the trip to cover the bloody scabs around his eyes. The dining was very limited compared to the other ships I have been on (even the staple Garden Cafe seemed to rotate hamburgers and hot dogs every day, and lacked variety). We went to the Sports Bar late one evening, and waited 20 minutes without being served, so we left and ordered room service. We dined as a large group at the Four Seasons a couple of times, and the service and food there was great. We brought 16 people, and a few of them were first time cruisers. I kept reassuring them that this wasn’t normal, but I felt bad that their first experiences had so many issues. The crew did a decent job, but many of them were noticeably off of their game due to the conditions. Dave (Trippong) P at guest services was very helpful. I had to visit the desk nightly to get sea sickness medicine. I’m hoping that this trip was a fluke, because NCL has been my preferred cruise line the past 4-5 years, but I definitely won’t go on the Sun ever again. My family is still worn out and seasick a day later. *I hadn’t cruised from Port Canaveral before, and the embarking/disembarking process was the easiest I’ve ever experienced. Read Less

My friends and I have been on 3 Norwegian cruises and this last one topped them all. Although we missed out on 2 of our ports due to weather and it was 2nd time not being able to see Great Stirrup Caye, we still had a blast thanks to the staff. Kasi, one of the bartenders made every day special. His personality and helpfulness was above and beyond what I expected. By the end of the trip he had me drinking Campari shots like it was nothing. Having to say goodbye to him was my least favorite part but now I have a friend for life. Along with Kasi their were a few other crew members that made our trip amazing. Marcus one of the bar waiters felt like family by the end, Iwana created a drink just for us that we named after him, Lee was another great bartender, Deadra from Osheeans dealt with all our drunk loudness after bliss each night, Predrag another bar waiter played the floor is lava with us every time we saw him in passing, Gustav- Guss(our housekeeper) cleaned our 3 rooms with no complaints always helpful and always smiling. These people deserve praise for all the hard work they put in each day and night. Belize was one of our favorite ports because we got the private cabana just steps away the the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful. Another favorite was Nassau Bahamas and Cozumel Mexico. Gian guided us during our tequila tasting for my birthday. He was so informative and genuinely nice. I didn’t expect to like Cozumel as much as I did but now I can’t wait to go back! I could go on and on about how much fun we had. I will definitely recommend this cruise to everyone I know! Read Less

We are frequent cruisers but had not cruised on NCL for 10 years. This cruise on the Sun was a very pleasant surprise. The ship is in great shape - all the money spent in renovations during dry dock really shows! The food was very good in all the venues we tried. The food and service was excellent in the Seven Seas MDR. Norwegian is a much more relaxed "freestyle" experience and we enjoyed that after cruising on other lines not quite so relaxed. There were many, many activities available during the day and night with a good amount of live music around the pool, in the atrium, in the Bliss Lounge and sometimes in the Spinnaker Lounge on deck 12. My husband and I are dancers - social ballroom, country and western, Carolina Shag - and none of the venues had great dance floors. The production shows were good. The performers were very young with LOTS of energy in their routines! The comedian and magician were pretty bad. The two ports - Costa Maya and Cozumel were enjoyable and the weather was great with temperatures in the low 80s. We had a little rain one day, but other than that, it was a great January cruise. Our cabin was a mini-suite on the 8th floor. The room was great and had been updated during the dry dock. The balcony was a large aft balcony with a nice view of the ship's wake. One negative note - the aft rooms on the 8th deck are over the theater so there's noise during the shows and when they are practicing during the day. Port Canaveral is a very nice little port. People are more friendly and you don't have all the rush and stress of a large port like Port Everglades. I would definitely take this cruise again! Read Less

We love cruising and have cruised 4 times in the past 3 years! This was my first time on the Mariner of the seas and I was excited for my small children to experience the Perfect Day at CocoCay. This cruise fell short of my expectations and truly left a lot to be desired. Boarding was easy and painless. It only took about 20 minutes from the parking lot to the ship. For this review, I will begin with the pools. There are 2 pools on the main deck surrounded by 4 large hot tubs. There is not a designated pool/water play area for children on this ship as opposed to some of their other ships. Children bombarded the hot tubs and made them nearly impossible to enjoy. Drunk adults were in the hot tubs with the children and it was cringeworthy. The boat has a solarium for adults with 2 hot tubs and 1 pool but children were consistently passing through this area running, yelling etc. to reach the main pool via the aft elevators. On prior cruises, the lifeguard would ask that they leave the area but the people on this boat could care less. Lunch in the windjammer was a madhouse on the first day. People were touching the food and putting it back. There was hair on my food and to be fair, it could have come from the patrons or the staff. I lost my appetite and did not eat there again. The sky pad was fun when it was open. It did close quite a few times even though the app said it was open during the cruise and I’m not sure why. The slides are okay for kids 48 inches or taller. Also, there is a small climbing apparatus for kids that should be replaced for a wade pool or some sort to keep them entertained and away from vacationing adults. The rooms were well taken care of by the staff and they entered 3 times a day to replace towels, make the beds, replace used water glasses etc. The dining room staff is amazing! They make us feel special and remembered little things about us. Ours called us by name and that is very nice. The shows they prepared for us were boring to me. It reminded me of a high school talent show. It was not entertaining. The cruise director really tried his hardest but neither he or the comedians were funny. The kids fell asleep and we left early. The most fun they had were in adventure ocean. Otherwise, the itinerary missed the mark. The ice skating show began but stopped abruptly. They took an intermission and then began again. The boat also had Bingo, a casino, NFL games on the big tv outside, and Laser tag while the ship docked in Nassau. I wish they had laser tag again during the forced sea day. This ship was scheduled to dock in Nassau, Bahamas and then dock again on Royal Caribbean’s private island, CocoCay. The “Perfect Day at CocoCay” was cancelled. The announcement that we heard said that the Ship failed to dock but the staff said that it does happen sometimes and the ship just doesn’t go there. Hundreds of passengers were upset and asking if they will receive compensation and were told that they would not. The sea day was boring, cold, and quiet. Royal Caribbean has to do a better job entertaining the guests in the event that the ship cannot dock. It took more than 2 hours to revamp the itinerary and the first activity wasn’t scheduled until after 1pm. We learned that the second port was cancelled before 8am. The guest services crew was rude, even when I asked them a question unrelated to the itinerary (I was changing credit cards for shopping). The lady took a deep breath and mumbles under her breath. Future cruising on this ship or any other Royal Caribbean ship is a no go for us. I had no idea that they sometimes do not go where they promise to and in the future, we will steer clear!! Read Less

I am no expert cruiser, but wanted to share our experience for those seeking a December experience on this REALLY big ship! Pros: *Holiday ease w/lots of options for the entire extended family. *Informed captain that made expert decisions to avoid storms and find sunnier ports. *Ship design that allows for folks to getaway from the crowds. *Great Teen club that my two teenagers said "Was actually pretty cool." *Super shows! Grease is a knockout. El Gaucho was ok and the adult only comedy night was very funny! (Rodney Laney, I think and don't remember the other comedian). *We all took Bonine EVERY night without fail including 2 days before sailing. The boat was rockin' and rollin' especially the first night. Please do not wait until you are sick to take medication. It is very difficult to reverse the effects of motion sickness!! Take Bonine whether you think you are prone to motion sickness or not. It can save your vacation! *Staying on board on a port day makes for lots of room by the pool! Cons: *This boat is HUGE. We had 6700 passengers on board. Knowing that both the Park Cafe and the Solarium offer breakfast at no charge is key to avoiding the crowds;) * Prepare for a not-so-sunny day or two in December. We had great weather most of the trip despite dismal forecasts for the entire week from The Weather Channel. We prepared for the worst and experienced the best most every day! *Main Dining room service can suffer a bit on a really big boat. The personalized experience that you get at dinner on a smaller ship is difficult to replicate with massive crowds of diners. We changed tables after the first night because we experienced sub-par service. Things were wonderful for the rest of the cruise. We did not eat in any specialty restaurants and ate in the main dining room every night so it was important to us to be at a table with experienced servers that were invested in providing excellent service. * The Christmas theme is over the top. Ok...it's a Christmas cruise so it is expected to hear Christmas songs on an infinite loop and for families to appear in matching pj's on Christmas morning ready for photos in the dining room. You need to be prepared for an excess of Christmas everything until after Christmas day. It is definitely the focus of every person on the ship. We were very much over Christmas music by 12/26!! There can be too much of a good thing;) * You usually pay more for this time frame so budget accordingly. Read Less

We have always loved Norwegian Cruise Lines and its super friendly/entertaining atmosphere and staff before this last cruise we just took in December on the Norwegian Sun. However, after this cruise my family and I just took we were all highly disappointed with our cruising experience. While there were some positive aspects of our vacation, such as the photography services and the friendly staff that helped us choose and buy our family photos taken onboard, the disappointing aspects of our experience outweighed the positive aspects. Firstly, our dining experience onboard was subpar at best. When we would go to the Garden Cafe for a meal, there were not many options and variety available to choose from and eat. Especially with our family being vegetarian, finding options and options that were tasty were pretty difficult; this is true in the complimentary restaurants as well. Our family even went to the specialty Mexican restaurant Los Lobos; however our family could only choose and eat 1 entree because it was the only vegetarian option (even the rice and beans had meat in them!). Secondly, the staff was noticeably less visible and friendly on this cruise compared to our last two cruises, for example our cruise director Jamie only introduced the first show and only hosted one event (the Newlywed Game Show) and we did not see or hear of her at all for the rest of the cruise. Our housekeeping staff was also not too friendly, even rudely telling my sister and I that we have to leave the room within 10 minutes so they can clean it (the housekeepers waited outside the cabin door knocking for us to leave). Another experience with rude staff was in the Garden Cafe, I was apparently blocking the plate stack while I was serving myself some food and the worker was tapping his foot behind me and gave me an attitude to move over so he could put more plates on the stack, even though it had only been a couple seconds that I was standing there. Lastly, the entertainment felt lazy and unimaginative. All the game shows and events were exactly the same from our past NCL cruises and nothing felt innovative or exciting. Also, the biggest disappointment with the entertainment was that most of the “fun” events were for additional fees, which seems very greedy and vicious from NCL seeing as though everyone has already spend a hefty amount of money to already be on the cruise. It was the constant additional fees and the constant selling/advertising that made me lose most of my respect for NCL and its ethics, they don't seem genuine anymore and it seems that all the company wants to do is suck their consumers out of as much money as they can. Overall, my family and I had a pretty subpar/bad experience this time around on NCL even though we have been loyal to them in the past and are Latitudes Rewards members. I am unsure of if we will choose NCL again for our future cruises after this last experience. Read Less

This was my first cruise experience and, it will be my last. I booked as part of a group celebrating a couple's 10 year wedding anniversary. While checking in at the port, all the staff were so friendly, happy and welcoming. Unfortunately, this was not a reflection of what I would find on the ship. While some of the servers were great, a vast many were downright rude. On the first day at sea, at the H2O Lounge, myself and 3 friends gave our drink orders (first of the day) to the server who came around. (We had all gotten a premium drink package.) This order included 3 alcoholic beverages and 2 waters. When my friend ordered a mojito, the server told her that the bartender doesn't like making those and that whenever he comes back with that order it upsets the bartender because it takes too long to make. After taking our order, the server went around to get orders from more people. Over 20 minutes later (reasonable) the server returned with 1 of our alcoholic beverages and handed us a stack of room cards and told us to pick our out, leaving to give other people their drinks. These cards have our name and room number on them and are associated with our credit cards. As four single women who are cognizant of our safety, we were very unimpressed. We took our room cards from the stack and passed the remainder to the couple next to us (who we did not know) who had also ordered drinks. It took over an hour to get the three alcoholic beverages we ordered (that were brought out in three separate rounds) and we ended up going to the bar ourselves for the water. When the mojito was brought, it was clearly not made properly. The limes were not muddled (perfectly intact) and the mint was sitting on top of the ice, completely dry. One of the women in our group asked to speak to a bar manager. The server was hesitant to comply and came back to us several times to try and convince that we were taking the situation the wrong way. When the bar manager did come he was happy we had brought this to his attention and, we thought that this would be a one off for the trip. Prior to November 30th, I had never been told off by a bartended in my life. On this cruise, I was told off by several. One the first day or two, I was just ordering "vodka sodas." On the second or third day when I received my drink (at the H2O Lounge) it tasted like paint thinner. I said to the bartender, "excuse me, could you tell me what kind of vodka this was made with?" he told me to hold on and walked away. The second bartender walked up and told me in a very rude way that if I want a specific kind of alcohol I need to ask for it and, if I don't, I will get whatever kind of alcohol they choose to put in it. I said that's fine, now I know for next time but can I order another drink please? He said I need to pay for another one because he wasn't just going to remake it because I didn't like it. I said I wasn't asking him to. He walked away to make me another drink and scan my card and, the first bartender returned to tell me off in the same fashion, even though I said I was already helped by the other gentleman. Following the bartender's advice and ordering the specific kind of liquor I wanted did not work any better for me. I tried ordering coconut Bacardi and cranberry juice at several bars. A couple times the bartender poured Malibu and was upset when I tried to stop them and say I wanted Coconut Bacardi, not Malibu. One gentleman told me they are the same thing. I said no, they are not. He then proceeded to take the cap off, smell it, and say "well, smells exactly the same to me." Not only were a significant amount of bartenders rude, they were also very slow and lazy, without an ounce of hustle in their body. During the "Glow Night" which was what we expected to be the big party of the trip, the bartenders moved at a pace that I have never seen before and honestly acted like they would rather be anywhere else in the world. I would say that event was such a failure largely due to their service. The bartender in the Ice Bar was exceptional. As were all the staff at Tappanyaki and, Cagney's Steak House. The server we had a Cagney's was hands down the best employee we interacted with on the ship. She was cheerful, polite, and extremely good at her job and, went above and beyond for one of the members in our group who was coming down with a cold. On one of the at-sea days when we had hoped to see more of the shows/programs on board, the NCL app was not correct and we ended up missing a lot of what we wanted to see. On other days we did see two standup comedians (Frank Townsend and another gentleman whose name I forget) and they were hilarious. We thoroughly enjoyed their shows, as well as "Burn the Floor". I did not end up using the water slides because on the first at sea day they were shut down because a child had been cut going down one of them. They re-opened after receiving repairs, however, I did not want to risk being injured. Some members of our group did use them and said they were fine if you sat up but, hurt your back if you laid down. The public washrooms were kept very clean and the Ports were beautiful (although full of jelly fish that stung five members of our group). If I realized I could have requested that the automatic gratuity be taken off my account, I would have done that and tipped only for good service. As I said, I will not be doing a cruise vacation again. I cannot believe the treatment we received, especially for the amount of money we spent. Read Less

We got to know them a bit more personally as we followed them to all of their performances. I will most definitely try to follow them to the location of their next contract!! YES that is how good they are!! Both beach stays were awesome. Cabbage beach is our favorite in Nassau. Princess cays was beautiful and fun to swim and snorkel. We rented chairs at cabbage beach. We are both professional chefs so food was important but we feel that the quality could use some work and giving a couple of more simpler dishes and also make portions are slightly larger. Drinks were great and late at night when hungry couldn’t find much to eat. There is pizza but it takes forever to get it. What happened to the ‘midnight buffet’????? Read Less

This was my first time ever on a cruise and I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. I’ll start by saying the staff on the sun were absolutely amazing and extremely helpful. Not only did the staff do an amazing job, but they made us feel at home and went beyond their job titles to make everyone feel welcome and special. Our room was amazing and extremely clean everyday. Very thankful for our housekeeper. We ate dinner every night at the Seven Seas and it was absolutely amazing. The menu was amazing and there were endless possibilities for dinner. We celebrated two birthdays on board and they were amazing thanks to everyone who took part in the experience. All of the staff in each lounge were very helpful and made sure we had the best experiences possible. Jamie the cruise director was amazing at her job and coordinated a great trip with so many great things to do on board. Definitely enjoyed everyday out on the islands. Everything was great from getting off the boat to the beech and even back on board . The private island exceeded my expectations with the cleanliness and fun atmosphere. Also very thankful for Irma and her advice on how to shop in Nassau. With her help we were able to find many great gifts to bring back home and enjoy. I took part in the stingray city excursion on November 8th and it was by far the most fun I’ve ever had. Our guide Miguel was super nice and made sure to make our experience far more than just taking photos with the rays. I would highly recommend traveling with Norwegian Cruise Line to anyone looking for a get away. I most definitely will be looking back into traveling with Norwegian again in the future. Thank you so much for the great staff and the unforgettable memories made! Read Less

We are a late 30s couple and have just returned from the 4 night Halloween sailing. We have only sailed Celebrity ships but had an idea of the Carnival atmosphere, so we weren't overly surprised with the differences. We tried our best to go into the vacation with an open mind and were determined to make the best of any situation. Embarkment was quick and easy. We arrived around 11 and walked right on the ship. The sea cards were in the cabins but we could order drinks right away with our printed boarding passes. We had a mid-balcony cabin on the 8th deck. Service was okay. No turndown service. Steward was very nice. The rooms could use a good deep clean. Lots of dust. Otherwise, it was pretty comparable to a room on any older ship. Towel animals were a nice touch. The buffet was above us so I expected it to be loud, but other than a couple instances of chairs moving around, it wasn't bad. On the first port day, I was going to go out on the balcony and there was a huge pile of balcony chairs and tables sitting there from other balconies. So odd. Apparently, they had to do maintence but didn't tell us? The next day, we were woken up to banging around on our balcony. I open the curtain and there was a room steward. They should take care of the balconies as they clean the room. Good thing our blinds were closed. Very strange, indeed. The balcony window was super gross. My husband mentioned that someone kept spitting from a deck above and it was landing on the window. Not the fault of the staff but a quick clean would have been appreciated. The food was hit or miss. We did have a great experience with the staff in the Silver at the 8:15 timeslot. All 3 of our servers were great. We danced with them during their little show, which was fun and definitely not something you would find on Celebrity. Try the lava cake. Yum. Avoid the fried chicken (was it chicken? Lol). We liked the thin crust pizza a lot. We had the Cheers package. Warning: they will cut you off after 15 drinks, even if you want to pay for more. Not a deal for me but may be for some. It was next to impossible to get a large bottle of water, unless, of course, you pay. My husband tried to order two small bottles of water at the same time and was denied. So strange. I also found it super weird that you had to sign for every drink, even under the package. We had to pay 18% gratuity (paid at the time of package purchase) on top of the already pricey package but since you had to sign for each drink, we felt pressured to tip more, otherwise the staff seemed disappointed. The Halloween costume and "scary" chest contests were both a riot. The cruise director, Donkey, was awesome. They had a special 12am screening of "It" on the lindo deck outside. Pretty neat atmosphere to watch a scary movie. On Halloween night around 9:30, they started taking all the Halloween decor down. This was before the party even started. Another "Huh? Okay.." moment. We liked the casino, with the exception of the smoke. It's 2019, let's get with the times. Felt bad for the staff having to deal with that all the time. Lots of interesting smells, which seems to be a common complaint. From sewage, to smoke, to weed, you never know what you'll get! We laughed it off. Layout of the ship was weird. The MDR and galley were in the middle of the ship, so you often had to go up to the 5th floor to get all the way across, which happened to be the casino floor. Coincidence? Hmm.. Debarkation was a disaster. We wanted to walk our bags off for "early" checkout so we were up and ready at 7am. They didn't call our floor until around 9:30. We were told that we could stay in the room until 8:30am. I'd recommend leaving earlier unless you want your steward to knock on the door every 5 minutes and other staff to be banging around on that balcony (again, what is with that balcony??). While we did have a fun time and liked the upbeat, change of pace from Celebrity, we likely won't be sailing with Carnival any time in the near future. Read Less

We traveled in a group of 4 on the Carnival Liberty back-to-back cruise. Doing both the 3-day overnight Nassau itinerary and the 4 day Nassau and Princess Cay itinerary. The Carnival Liberty is not the newest ship in the fleet but is very well kept and has many of the Carnival signature bars. The Liberty makes a great getaway cruise and seems to be affordably prices compared to some of the other 3 and 4 day cruises. Embarktion/Debarktion: The Liberty sails of out Port Canaveral where in my experience has always been very organized compared to some other ports. We had a suite (more to come) but decided to board with our friends in a general zone. We arrived as soon as the port opened and did not wait more than 30 mins to get on the ship. Boarding started at 1100 and was a fast process. Debarktion was the same as every Carnival cruise. We chose to do the self-assist option where you are called by floor to disembark. We were on deck 7 and was not called until the lower decks were off the ship. We were required to be out of the cabin by 830 and our deck was called at 815 to disembark. When speaking to one of the workers they said the ship is usually at zero count (everyone is off) by 930. Again, a fast and well-organized process. Staff service: I have sailed on over 15 Carnival cruises and the staff on the Liberty by far has been the best I have ever had! We frequented the Alchemy bar and the bar staff was always excited to see us and knew what we wanted to drink before ordering it. If we were running late, they made sure to check in with us to ensure everything was ok. The dining room host and wait staff knew our party and when to expect us at dinner every night. One night we chose to do the Chef’s Table (more to come). The host went out of her way to check in on us during the experience knowing we was not going to be at dinner that night. When walking around the ship many of the staff would stop and talk with us and would go out of their way to make us comfortable. Public Areas: To be an older ship it is well maintained. The Liberty has many of the same public areas as the bigger Carnival ships. The Casino was always a busy area and one of the only smoking areas aside from the night club. On some of the ships smoke can be smelled on the entire casino deck. This is not the case with the Liberty. They do a great job isolating the smoke to the casino area. The lobby and casino had live music nightly including steel drum players. The Liberty has 2 pools but does not have an adult only pool. The pool at the aft of the ship seemed to be more laid back and less children throughout the cruise. The aft pool also has a retractable roof that covers the pool at night. When in the warmer climate it can get very warm when the roof is not open. Chefs Table: The Chefs table is a great experience if you are seeking to do something special. Be prepared it is limited space and should be booked prior to your sailing. It is also A LOT of food. The menu consists of almost 13 FULLSIZE courses. The chef meets us in the lobby bar. There was a group of 8. They take a complimentary chef table group photo that they give the guests at the end of the dinner. You then get a tour of the galley during busy dinner time and they talk about the amount of food they serve and how it is prepared. A pastry chef gives a demonstration on how to make the signature melting cake along with a recipe. Following the tour, you are taken into a private dining room and each course is served with wine pairing and description of the food. The chef did say the Chef Table is the same on every ship. The best advice would be to eat a small breakfast and skip lunch before the Chef Table. Read Less

This was my first cruise with Norwegian. Six friends and myself treated ourselves with no kids and no husbands. For the most part our cruise was absolutely AWESOME!!!! The majority of the crew was great, the food was great and the port calls were great. We had the best steward EVER!! Our room was 0264 and he was friendly and accommodating. Every steward on our floor was AMAZING! We weren’t thrilled with the backed up shower that we called about every day that never got fixed, the crew members that were unfriendly and not having a beach day (Great Stirrup Cay). It wasn’t bad enough for me not to return though. This was my friend that planned this getaways 7th sail with Norwegian. She said she had never experienced such unhappy crew before. Again, I still had a great time but a few improvements are in need. We’re going to have a “girls trip” once a year and are already planning the next one in September 2020! Read Less

Embarkation - easy and quick. The cost of parking at Port Canaveral has gone up significantly - now $85 Monday to Friday. Food - distinctly average in the MDR on my time dining. Dinner took 2 hours every night. 30 minute wait before ordering. We were a large party but it just took too long. Food was average to good but absolutely none of it was hot. It also took ages to get drinks and we rarely got the drink we had ordered. Breakfast buffet in the MDR was freezing cold. A la Carte breakfast in MDR was good. Windjammer - breakfast was the worst I’ve ever seen - cold, sloppy and disgusting, we went once then ate in the Diamond club. No choice, all cold and poor quality. Lunch was good and we went once for dinner, which was also good. Cafe promenade - we went for pizza after dinner and had to wait for 20 minutes as there was no pizza available. When the pizza was finally cooked and served, it became the only free hot meal I enjoyed throughout the cruise. There was always a queue for pizza every time we walked past, sometimes snaking down the promenade and the service was very slow. Izumi - we went for Teppanyaki for lunch. Was expensive at $40 each but fantastic experience and fabulous food - we all had the premium options so enjoyed beef tenderloin, scallops and lobster. Our chef, Jeffrey, was very entertaining and we enjoyed the experience very much. I also enjoyed some fabulous sake cocktails on the drinks package which were different and supplemented the experience. If you have not experienced Teppanyaki before, I would highly recommend trying this. Lunch is $10 cheaper than dinner and you get exactly the same food and experience. We also had just two other ladies at our Teppan so it was an almost private experience at lunchtime. Drinks - I had the deluxe package which was pre-booked before the cruise. I also had the benefit of Diamond drinks in the evening but I like cocktails and different wines to those on offer. Individually priced drinks are absolutely extortionate - $12-$15 plus an 18% gratuity is just ridiculous. If you like to drink, even if it is just a few cocktails/glasses of wine per day, the cost means you may as well go all out and get the deluxe package. Cococay - this was our first visit to the “new” island; we had been a number of times to the original island. RCL has done a great job, we had a wonderful day. The upgraded food and drink offerings were fab and we enjoyed both the sea and the huge free pool. Unless you want to go on the big water slides, there is absolutely no need to pay anything extra at Cococay; there is an abundance of seating (based on one ship being docked rather than two) and plenty of activities. Floating mats cost $18 each - we took our own inflatables to float in th sea instead. Nassau - this being my 14th visit to Nassau, I have pretty much run out of things to do here. We went to Cabbage Beach on Paradise Island and took the water taxi, which was a big mistake. We had to walk for 30 minutes from the water taxi drop off to get to the public beach access. Regular taxis were charging the same price ($4 per person) and dropped off right outside the beach access route. If you’re going to the beach, take a regular taxi. We paid $40 for 3 chairs and an umbrella. The beach was lovely but the sea was very rough. It is a public beach so it was busy, people were playing music and smoking, and hawkers pestered us literally every 2 minutes we were there. We still had a great time but if you want a private and peaceful beach experience, avoid Cabbage Beach. Around the ship - there was nowhere quiet on this ship. Everywhere we went was incredibly loud. This was my 3rd sailing on Mariner and first after her refurbishment. She is a beautiful ship; it’s a shame she has been put on this party itinerary. Cabin 7579 promenade view - clean enough but very tight to get past the beds into the cabin, luggage had to go over the bed. It was nice to look into the promenade. There was a service station a few doors down where crew took what looked to be used crockery/glasses from room service. Until around midnight each night there was clattering and clunking from plates, glasses and cutlery - very noisy but not from the promenade. Adventure Ocean - my 3 year old niece had a great time at Aquanauts and couldn’t wait to go back each day. This is a party cruise and very much like a floating holiday camp - the quality of food and service is not up to RCL’s usual standards. We still had a good time but won’t be taking this cruise again. I was aboard the Norwegian Sun for a work trip my company paid for. This was intended to be a treat for our team, but ended up being anything but. If anything, we've bonded over our mutual hate for Norwegian. First of all, and I can't overstate this enough, the food is extremely bad. This is important to state up front, because eating is virtually the only thing to do while you're onboard. The food served on the Norwegian Sun makes Applebees look gourmet. You will dream longfully for the reheated frozen food from TGI Fridays. The Orlando Airport food court will appear to be a culinary Valhalla after your time spent on the Norwegian Sun. Second, this extremely bad food is served by staff that simply don't care. You will sit down for dinner and wait 15 minutes to be greeted by your waiter. Each subsequent visit from your waiter will take 10-20 minutes. Your beverages and food will all arrive at room temperature. Your ability to even speak to your waiter will be blunted by the fact that he speaks under his breath and walks away as soon as he can. Finally, in case you were able to enjoy the cruise for other reasons, it will assuredly be spoiled by the captain's desire to catch air on the waves of the high sea. Multiple nights of my trip were completely sleepless as the captain pushed through intense weather, creating incredible turbulence onboard. The ship violently bobbed up and down for hours on end throughout the night. Many people I know were intensely seasick throughout the cruise because of this completely careless navigation. This is how your vacation tortures you. My work effectively made this trip free for me and I still hated it. I undoubtedly will never board another Norwegian ship for the rest of my life. Read Less

It was my mother's 50th birthday cruise, we had a group of approx. 34 ppl. Paulvic and Yuseph were amazing at keeping our room looking spotless. The staff was constantly cleaning so I feel like it was a sanitary environment. They even cleaned the pools nightly. My children loved camp and the staff there made me feel comfortable leaving my children with them. If a large group use walkie talkies, it helps you stay in contact. However my son's hand got crushed in the elevator frame (in between the elevator door and the wall) and Carnival is refusing to listen to me on how they can prevent this from happening to other children. THIS IS 100% PREVENTABLE ON CARNIVAL'S PART. I'm said to see that they are trying to sweep it under the rug when they can fix it. My son is terrified of elevators now. Their staff didn't even know what to do, I have pictures of the medical staff just watching in aww. Other than the safety of children the ship was good. Read Less

My family and I wanted to take a end of the summer vacation together. We cruised August 16-19th. We honestly decided to cruise Norwegian because of the open bar, because we normally cruise Royal Caribbean but drink packages for 20 is a tad expensive. Norwegian open bar was really not worth it the staff was so rude and made the guest feel unwelcome like we were annoying them. The food on the ship was disappointing. A lot of the food was like hospital food with little flavor. The service from the staff was horrible. The majority of the staff including the bartenders and waiters was that they appeared to be annoyed by the guests and seem to have a careless attitude about providing good service. I have travelled on other cruise lines so I understand what quality customer service is and it was not there on this trip. When I would approach a staff member with a simple question no one ever seem to have an answer and the majority of the staff was not able to communicate basic english to answer questions like “where is the bathroom”? Or “what time are we scheduled to be at our next destination?” We upgraded one of our rooms to a balcony and it wasn’t worth it. The room was so tight that you literally had to jump over one bed to get in the room. I really wish I had a picture of that mess. Also, before cruising I was told I had to put a $300 hold per room. I did not have to do that my room key was disabled from making purchases which was fine I did not want to make any purchases. So if your wondering I set my payment to cash on checkin and never went to the service desk to change it. No $300 hold and cards disabled. For smokers they don’t sell Newport’s so don’t run out. Based on this experience this will most likely be our last cruise with Norwegian. Read Less

The food was bad, the waiter was good but there seemed to be no excitement from the staff. The freestyle meals are cold and not friendly. The smoke on the ship from the casino was horrible. You could smell it 2 floors down in the dining area. The staff on the ship were not educated on events and where to go many times we asked. We have cruises many times and this was probably the most disappointing cruise we have ever been on. Our cabin was nice and we enjoyed having a balcony but when we tried to sit out there the people in cabin 8051 were smoking. We were not told this ship allowed smoking or we would not have scheduled a cruise in this ship. The staff when we got off the ship in customs were very rude to everyone getting off of the ship. We will probably not cruise with Norwegian again. Read Less

We choose the carnival Breeze this year because we heard it was an incredibly ship, and it was. Our cabin Stewart was Great she was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. The lines on the lido deck were long but hey we’re on vacation, not a big problem for me. I enjoyed the chance to talk and meet new people. We Loved the 80’s Rock and Glow night, we just wished they had the 80’s trivia game the same night. We enjoy dressing up in our costumes. The ports were beautiful and breathtaking, the water was so blue. The staff was also extremely friendly and really helpful we never needed anything. Our waiters in the Dining Room were incredible, they remembered our names and what we liked to eat and drink. Thanks Carnival for the wonderful memories Read Less

Went on Key West-Cuba cruise as part of a group.. Very disappointed with customer service both on board and contact with company. First day they closed the pool all day due to love bug infestation as well as Great Outdoors Cafe but did have it ready by Day 2.. Had "handicap accessible" room which was fine-our room attendant was wonderful. Chose the 3 night specialty dining pkg. as one of our choices (also did shipboard credit). All 3 specialty restaurants were good-Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria and La Cucina( veal dish was very salty)-all had excellent wait service and food was very good. However, unless you know where they are and how to get to them it can be a challenge. Ate in Main dining room last night-was supposed to eat with our group but the the reservation time was changed by the staff and the person in charge of our group wasn't told, so we ate by ourselves. Food was good-nothing to rave about. Asked for a Coke and got a cappuccino instead. Did eat in the Garden Cafe and Great Outdoors Cafe for lunch a couple of times-food was okay-again nothing to rave about but wait staff were very good. Only one entertainment show nightly in the main theater, except last night had an extra "adult" show. Key West port-we had to be transported by trolley b/c ship pulled into military port and brought back the same way, but there were enough trolleys/trams running every 10-15 min back to ship. Ship was pretty quiet-not many kids on board. Cuba portion was good-ship pulled into main terminal-easy access into town. Did not like the fact that you have to pay for bottled water esp. if you need it for medical reasons-found out after 2 days I could get ice water delivered to room if requested but can't bring back any water/drinks from outside ship back on board-you can bring back empty bottles/travel containers. Also was told I had to pay for regular coffee in restaurant but not up in buffet/cafe (which I found out later on was incorrect-only specialty coffees are a fee). Drinks were okay-part of our pkg. but watered down. No real duty-free shopping to speak of-small place on deck 7 next to smoky casino-1 store divided into sections, and jewelry place across from it. Was a small place selling Cuba-theme items on Atrium level open after we got to Cuba and did have a few table on Atrium selling cheaper jewelry. Ship layout is poor-restaurants all on one side and had to go up/down 1 level to get to Main dining room from Level 5. Had to go through main buffet place to get to Garden Cafe. Too much Cuban/Spanish music-would have liked them to have a variety but the same type every day by the pool was a bit much. Did not partake in the shipboard activities-none really were very appealing or caught our interest. Some of the staff should be able to understand English and seem to not understand at times when I asked basic questions-if they were not sure then they should be told to ask another staff member to help (the coffee issue). I don't think I will travel on this ship again and not sure if I would travel again on Norwegian- wrote to customer service after trip and still haven't heard back from them (it is now July). My friend was turning 50 so we got together for the cruise. The embarkation and disembarkation were the worst part of the trip. It took a long time and I felt sorry for older people and those with small children waiting so long in line. The entertainment was very good. We saw Priscilla, Burn the Floor and the comedians three times. I found the air conditioning very cold and as I spent a lot of time indoors I did not feel as if I was down south at all. The only outdoor space is really deck 15 and up with the pools. The loungers were all taken most of the time so we didn't stay there. It would be nice if there was an outdoor public quiet area just to sit and read and have a drink. We would go to a bar to get drinks and then go back to our room and balcony. The complimentary dining was very good mostly. We enjoyed Taste for breakfast as opposed to the buffet. The staff were all very amiable. Our stateroom housekeeper was very pleasant and happy to help with requests and questions. Our excursion in Tortola was informative and fun. The hour at the beach was great. Wish we could have stayed longer. We had an excursion booked for Great Stirrup Cay but it was cancelled because of weather conditions. Overall it was a good first time cruise experience. If we went again I would book restaurants in advance and maybe another excursion. For sure I would book a room with a balcony. I thought I might feel seasick but I didn't. I did feel the motion of the ship but it was gentle. Read Less

We called ourselves "Chicks On the Run" and a group of girlfriends decided to take a three day cruise and have fun, play cards and enjoy music and laughter and girl company. Boy were we in for a negative surprise!! We chose the line and ship so that we did not have to drive eight plus hours to south Florida. First the room attendant only gave us one small bar of soap for two guests. Towels were gray and rough and even though we asked for extra towels we never received them nor did we ever get a bucket of ice in our room. Dirty glass was left for us to clean??? . Cabin was kept clean, however the vinyl couch left much to be desired and one would never want to sit on it! Dining room staff gave us terrible service; so bad that we complained at Guest Services. Wine was brought to the table after we had finished most of our meal and the table was still filled with dirty dishes while the the waiter was serving us our dessert. Steak was tough, prime rib was tough and they do not know what au jus is. We received gloppy beef gravy for the prime rib. Breakfast was not much better in the dining room, as you had to ask for every little thing, including jam, butter and little pastries, just to name a few. Lunch at the buffet was good. Guy Fierrri's burgers were the best and the line to get a burger proved it. The Mongolian Wok station was also very good, however long, long lines to have your selections cooked. Dirty floors all around the ship, lack of help all over the ship was quite obvious. Do not get the "Drink Package" as you will never get the service to order the drink and if you do, you will not receive it, way within an hour! Daylight savings time and the ships clocks were never corrected, so we got our wakeup call an hour late! Public bathrooms were nasty. Needed a luggage tag for disembarkation, go get it yourself! I am still waiting for credit for my beverage package that I was told would be credited to my account!! The best part of the cruise was being with friends! Carnival was to give us a "Cocktail Party with dry snacks and drinks. It turned out to be drinks we really did not want and not even a cracker was to be found! Desserts were good. So I guess the saying "Let Them eat cake" is the way Carnival thinks!!! Smoke was terrible wherever you walked on the public areas of the ship. Felt bad for the staff that had to inhale all the second hand smoke around them. I have sailed over 25+ cruises, including Carnival and I have never been on a ship as bad as this. Read Less

A group of us that are Super fans from NFL teams chose to cruise to the Bahamas, Over all the experience was not great. Food was decent, but service was slow or non existent. Ship was clean but the crew did not seem friendly and seemed disinterested, They did not make you feel welcome. This did not include everyone, just the majority. We did find some that seemed to have fun and made you feel special. Our steward never seemed to materialize but the room was clean and presentable. This was just a very disappointing cruise. Food was as I said decent, Osheehans was our favorite. The buffet was goos as well and the Shanghai Noodle Bar was also one of our favorites. Debarkation was horrendous. No organization and there was major chaos. At this time I would not recommend Norwegian Cruise Lines and our plan is we will not be cruising with them again. I have been on 2 Carnival Ships, 1 Princess and 1 Royal Caribbean, All of those I would recommend. Read Less

20-30 minutes for a drink. Never left the ship for their "private island". Called the front desk because there was dry blood on our sheets, we could never get through, it just rang and then a message said everyone was busy, try again later. Eventually had to take sheet from a cart in the hallway. Getting off the ship was horrifying. We needed to be on the 5th floor to get off the ship. We tried to get off the ship early by carrying our own luggage off. Traffic was so backed up that we we're standing in the back of the ship, on the 7th floor stairwell. And they kept calling more groups to get off the ship. I would think just a couple weeks after crushing 2 moorings and damaging the ship, their service would be on point. That was not the case. Drink package would have been worth it if it didn't take 30 minutes to get a drink. Food was good. But I can get good food anywhere. Please do not take a Norwegian cruise line adventure.... Ever.. I'll start with the things I enjoyed about about the ship. 1) I enjoyed the drink package! But, sometimes the wait at the bars were crazy. It was tolerable but could have been better. 2) The balcony view. It was wonderful sitting out every morning and night. 3) In the beginning, the staff was very nice. 4) The food at the specialty dining restaurants was very good. The buffet was average...not terrible. Now for the things I didn't like.... 1) I was really disappointed that we didn't make it to the private beach Great Stirrup Cay. I believe it was to keep everyone safe. However, some people didn't share my thoughts on it. I'm glad they kept everyone safe but I wish they would have given us a shorten beach day for a couple of hours. It did rain really hard later that evening. I understand they don't want the liability. 2) My room wasn't as clean as I would have liked. I believe they forget the mirrors. 3) The rooms are really tight. I would suggest to select the mini suite or better. (Showers are larger in mini suite) 4) The room steward didn't even speak to us on the depart day. It was like it flipped a switch. 5) The whole disembarkation process was terrible. If felt like they had never had people leave the ship before....it was over an hour to get down from the 8th floor to the 6th floor. 6) Again, the bars and the small pools just can't accommodate the amount of people on the ship. If you can afford The Haven....I'm sure there's no problem there. If I try another NCL cruise, it will be Bliss. Cruise Date: March 7-11 (Epic) Read Less
