I’ve always loved the ship. On the voyage, I had a couple problems. For the first time, in 9 cruises, I thought I’d continue my work out during the cruise. I could not get in the steam room because no one would start the steam at any predictable time. I even went so far as to speak with the hotel manager, no change was made. The food at La Cucina ,,, just plain wonderful. Every time we go there it’s great. We also ate at the sushi bar and as usual, the food was so tasty. The crispy rice was great. Another meal at Cagney’s proved a little less than great. I didn’t want squash/zucchini. The waiter substituted broccoli. He didn’t order my potatoe soup then he chosen a vegetable for me. This was not good. After delivering our main corse, he just disappeared. Our room attendant was really good. Everything was clean and well taken care. We went to the new stop “Harvest Caye”. The beach and pool was great and that’s all. The other space was filled with commercial crap to buy. Read Less

My only prior cruise was in Europe on a ship that held 350 passengers so I was curious to see what a cruise on a large American ship would be like. Also, I got a very good deal via a vacation web site for this particular cruise. Embarkation was probably the worst part of the experience. A one hour line in a cavernous space. The ship was clean and in good repair and although my cabin was dated it was also clean and in good repair. The esthetics of the ship vary widely. Some rooms (e.g. the main lobby) are straight out of a 80s fever dream of Living La Vida Loca in Las Vegas. The pool area appears to have been designed by the folks who brought you Pee Wee Herman's Playhouse. Other spaces - like the gym and most of the restaurants are decorated in a more up to date and conventional manner. The drink packages I was offered were ludicrously expensive. The full daily package would have been about 100.00 per day including gratuity and the wine and beer package about 80.00 (it was not hard to spot the people who had paid for the packages - as they rarely were without a drink in their hands). I decided to limit myself to two glasses of wine a day that came to about 25. As I spoke to other passengers I quickly discovered that the prices people paid for their cabin and drink packages and shore tours varied wildly. Factors like when you bought, if you negotiated, prior trips, the phases of the moon, your astrological sign and the price of tulips in Amsterdam all seemed to factor into the final price. My main message to a new cruiser is make sure you get a clear picture of the full cost before you go by asking lots of questions, talking to someone who has been on a few cruises and feeling free to negotiate. The ship provides you with many opportunities to spend money - the most egregious is the horrendous, crappy "art" that they sell to the uninformed and gullible at shocking prices. To be fair, I never felt pressured to spend - just offered many opportunities. Also, for those dedicated to throwing money away - there is a casino. There is a nonstop series of events throughout the day but most are either a way to encourage you to buy - "lectures" about art - available in the gallery or seem geared to a senior citizen's center - bingo! My cruise was in early December so we had few kids. The great majority of the folks on my cruise seem to be elderly or working folks with an emphasis on careers such as cop and electrician. The lobby, pool area and the main buffet restaurant are very busy and buzzy. The only public spaces where I could gather my thoughts were the library, top side front sun deck area and the outside rear deck restaurant area. Due to Hurricane Maria damage on other islands, we stopped at ports that were surprisingly poor and in poor repair (e.g. Martinique). Many folks seemed indifferent to the ports and really on the cruise to be on the ship. The tours offered by the boat for the ports were again shockingly expensive (about 75 per person). With some preplanning several of the ports provide relatively easy access to a nice beach by cab. The amount of time at each port was quite limited - much less time than suggested by the itinerary that you get when you sign up. Again, the focus seems to be about being on the ship. The meals were OK to good. Try to avoid the main buffet restaurant when you can and go to the smaller "complimentary" restaurants that serve noticeably better food and have a calmer atmosphere. My one try of a non-complimentary restaurant seemed no better or worse - and of course more expensive. Overall, my message is that this is a very easy way to have a vacation. The experience is not travel in any sense that I have every understood the term. Your opportunity to experience different places, people, food or culture is essentially zero. Rather, the experience is of being in a very large hotel with shifting scenery. If you are elderly, have mobility problems, have kids or just want to hang out and have a few drinks, this is an easy and enjoyable vacation option. Read Less

I'm sure that there are many cruise lines that are willing to offer more at a little higher rate. For a first timer this was an opportunity to get my "feet wet". The value was good for the services received. The breakaway was clean. The cabin was clean and all surrounding public area such a bathrooms, stairs, hallways etc. The vocal entertainment was spot on. The bar tendering staff on decks 15, 16 & 17 where the best. The dining staff that i dealt with where also pleasant. Shore excursions i personally give 2thumbs down or 2 stars. #1. I wasn't sure if it was choppy waters or a poison sea snake in the beach water to norwegian's private islands. (Funds where refunded) #2.coco beach not quit a day at the beach. Too windy and dirty. #3.bahamas the weather was warm but only 1 day at dock. Even though ship docked the night b4. Food was decent and pretty much the same in most compliment dining rooms and buffet, unless you go asian or specialty dining. These spots served quality food and service. I'm a person who can find enjoyment in the worst possible case. I did just that. What others found unpleasant i made pleasant. Even a few racist. I met amazing and interesting people. I would advise all first timers and vets cruiser to never gave up the credit cards to load your ship payment card. I received $150 on board spending and added cash as needed. Carry only 1 card and use it for emergencies only. And cash out your card the final night and get back or clear up your account in cash. Who want to wait for a surprise bill in the mail.? Read Less

We spent 4 days in Barcelona before joining the ship. Enjoyed the city tremendously. We wanted to do a Transatlantic cruise and I loved the cruising and the long days at sea. Fabulous time meeting new folks and would absolutely do the TA cruise again. Malaga was amazing! Although the Azores wasn't on the original itinerary, I really enjoyed the stop there. We planned nothing until we got to ports and really found some great activities and had some new adventures. There were over 4000 people on this cruise and I think the crew did their very best to accommodate everyone however, the food was often cold and it was very crowded in the dining areas, so if your food was hot when you got it by the time you found a seat to sit at your food was cold. The track is on Deck 7. Only on one side of the ship. It was crowded, small, smelly and hot. I was on the Norwegian Sun this summer and the track went around the entire deck of the ship, it was cold, rainy and windy on the Alaskan cruise and walking around that track was preferable to this one. The Debarkation was awful. We were in line to leave at 7:30 and didn't leave the ship until 9am. We were sent to start a new line and waited there for over an hour - I have never seen such a clusterf*ck like this before. I also asked for some water and got a deer in the headlights look. Finally persuaded someone to get a cup for me. They were serving coffee but it was as if it was too much trouble to get water!! Apparently, once the magic time to get off the ship comes, the customer service is gone. I saw people from our ship still commenting hours after they were suppose to get off. Many of our friends missed their planes. The entertainment and shows were wonderful. I was amazed at the number of things to do on this ship and was never bored. If people were bored on this ship they were not looking for things to do. However, they need to change the way people sign up for events. We were often told things were sold out but when we got there to go standby there was always room. Way to many people sign up for things and then don't show up. Change the system to fix it. The IConcierge app needs some work but it was great to have. My friends and I use the messaging part and love being able to find our family and friends anytime we were looking for them. Only had trouble with one bartender he usually worked the Atrium bar and if he had his favorite customers there who were tipping cash to get his attention he couldn’t see you! Read Less

The ship, crew and food were first rate. Million Dollar Quartet was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Definitely will see again. The comedians were awful. Attended the 18+ show and expected to be in tears laughing so hard from the wealth of material available. Barely broke a smile.. Very unfortunate, Shore excursions overpriced and not very good value. Harvest Key, Norwegian's own island was a waste of time. You can get a tan on the boat just as easy and use your drink package as well. Every stop you would see the same watches, cheap jewelry, bamboo sheets for sale. Annoying the third and fourth port of call as you have to walk right thru the stores every time you get on and off the ship. What upset me the most was the amount of money the casino was taking from the passengers. I do understand that the boat is a business that is supposed to make money. However there is a limit between making money and gouging your customers. Eg 1. Blackjack tournament with a $500 prize. The boat took over $1800 in entries. $1300 profit is really greedy. Eg 2. Texas Hold-em Tournament. Over $2800 in entries, 3 prizes totaling just over $2100 were given out. $700 profit for a 3 hour tourney. Eg 3. The hold-em poker table took a 10% rake of every hand. That amounted to $250-400/hour depending on the size of the hands. The boat was the only winner. As I said the boat is a business to make money, but greed and gouging of your passengers is not the way to do business. I hope they change their ways. Finally, paying for water. $6.75 for a 2 litre bottle. 1/2 gallon in the US. More greed. If you didn't buy their water package and you went to a drink station to fill up a water container you were made to feel guilty like you were stealing. Read Less

My experience on Pride of America was great. The food was fantastic and the shows on board were great. My room was small and the bathroom was definitely to small', but I got use to it. I love sitting on the balcony because I get a chance to read my book as well as to having a goof drink. I also enjoy watching the sun come up and to go down. All and all, my cruise experience was great and look forward to traveling with Norwegian Cruise Line again. The specialty dinners were great. I did the package of 3 Dinners and I spent my other times in the Skyline Dining Room. I choose the 12 bottles of water which in came in handy because I was always thirsty. My SEVEN DAY experience to Hawaii was fantastic and I got to experience several island in the region. I loved every moment. Read Less

Offer, price right time, wanted the experience is a mega ship. Solo traveler, I really did have an enjoyable time, embarkation and disembarking was easy. Other than the rain on the first three days very pleasant trip. Crew and amenities were great, clean and well maintained. For me this ship was too big, I have traveled on small ships (1500 crew and guests), medium size and now this one (6,000+). I prefer the mid sized ships myself. The food was better than average, deck areas leave something to be desired, but there was plenty of space, layout was just odd. Public area nice, casino huge, smoking areas should be reevaluated to plead smokers and non as well. Smokers do not bother me but it appeared they were an afterthought. If I was able to get a good deal ,I would sail on another mega ship but if I'm looking for specific needs I'll stick with the midsize ones. Traveled RCCL, Carnival, Celebrity, NCL Read Less

Another hit by NCL this time on the Getaway during the westbound crossing - Copenhagen to Miami - 14 nights with stops in Ponta Delgada (Azores) and Bermuda (2 day overnight). Bermuda was an added port after the originally scheduled ports of St. Thomas and St Marteen were cancelled due to post hurricane damage. I was traveling solo meeting global friends onboard, I arrived at the terminal around 10am, At the port drop off, the bags are collected by deck number allowing for quicker delivery. The check-in was easy and the port team was knowledgeable of the process and could answer all questions. I boarded the Getaway by 11am, Meeting my friends at the Savor dining room for lunch where we were quickly seated. Luggage arrived by 2pm. The ship was in good shape - clean, comfortable, My balcony cabin - 13170, was convenient to the stairs, health club and sun decks. I traveled solo and found the cabin configuration to meet my expectations. My cabin steward was pleasant and greeted me each time we say each other, I am not a fussy traveler and found the attention to the cabin to meet my needs. The temperature control was working to increase/decrease air conditioning as needed. My neighbors were quiet as were the passageways, Dining: I had several upsale diners and purchased additional, My fare included the unlimited beverage package. My friends and I enjoyed dinner in all of the venues - Tropicana 1 time, Taste 1 time, Cagneys 3 times, Bistro 2 times, Tapenyaki 1 time, Moderno 1 time, La Cucina 1 time, Ocean Blue 1 time. We enjoyed all. The dining staff was friendly and greeted our table, The Tropicana Main Dining room can be crazy buzzy and appear chaotic at times the team delivered a great meal. Lunch at the RAW bar was phenomenal. Fitness: The Getaway offers an unlimited fitness class fee which I did purchase, The package allows for taking unlimited fitness classes as per the set schedule. The instructors were friendly and knowledgeable, If you are not able to keep to the schedule the fee is not for you. I attended classes twice per day, Classes are not offered on port days, Spa package: I did purchase the spa package. Not a good idea on this trip as the spa was crowded (very over crowded) as the weather was cool, cloudy and foggy. Most spa members took loungers and headed beds and stayed for all day, Some even took two loungers (for their hand bags) being totally rude to others who need, All entertainment is good and enjoyable, I have seen most of the shows before either on ship or on land. I highly recommend attending the shows which fit your schedule, On shore I did my own planning with friends and local outfitters choosing not to purchase ship excursions. Being a gay traveler I find the support of NCL with the offering of the daily meetings (Friends of Dorothy) to be a wonderful bonus., The attendance at the daily meetings were well attended allowing a place to gather before dinner and evenings entertainment. The Haven is spectacular. It really is a place away from the ship's crowds and din. They immediately remember you name and preferences, the concierge was super attentive to us and our children, escorted us directly out and onto our various tour buses when needed. Made endless changes to our dinner and show reservations without a single mishap, and fixed anything that was wrong. The Epic restaurant in the Haven is the best one on the ship. (We tried four of the specialty restaurants, the best was probably Le Bistro but still not as good as Epic restaurant in the Haven). Plus in the Haven you had a super formal setting but you didn't have to dress up--come as you are and the food really was outstanding. We additionally ate at the buffet a couple of times with a friend not traveling in Haven: it was just plain gross compared to the Haven in truth. Our Butler Maria is outstanding, and the bartender in Haven club never missed a beat. In fact when we were elsewhere on the ship as well and showed our Haven card our service was stepped up a notch. It really is noticeable. Yes, you have to tip your concierge and your butler and bartenders. But they make a big difference on your trip and work diligently the whole cruise. We will travel again on Norwegian, but only in the Haven. Read Less

We chose this ship for the itinerary. We were pleasantly surprised by all the amenities and activities on board. The cruise director was awesome and he deserves due credit. I hope the next time we cruise, Scott is our cruise director again. He was amazing. So glad that NCL kept the LGBTQ+ community in mind and made sure we were included. Everything worked, and the crew couldn't have been nicer. The dining was good and great selection of food. Service was acceptable, although the buffet seems chaotic in the mornings and some people should not have been on board the way they were coughing. We ended up with a cold but not until after we departed and our last day in Barcelona so at least we held out well until then. A great time meeting new friends. Cannot wait to go on another one. The ship is massive but managed to feel cozy. Wish we could have went around one more time. We definitely would go again. Read Less
