Cabin was fine as noted below. However I did notice that the carpet could have been cleaner. Bathroom was tight but well laid out. 1). Fun party boat with mostly middle age and younger folks. (A waiter told us the average age on this 4 day Bermuda weekend cruise was 48 as compared to an 11 night Canada/New England just prior to our sailing where the average age was 68!) 2). Local folk from all walks of life. 3) We experienced every level of service.. From stellar service from Rose in ship photography who went above and beyond helping us connect to wifi when the IT department was long gone, to downright rude staff. Notably a front desk member was annoyed with a very simple question and a eat staff member seemed to unexplainably stomp off in the middle of serving us. (It appeared were walked in on some some of dispute between her and the hostess, since i we did nothing to provoke this. 4). The food:. The free stuff was not good. Honestly, barely edible, with exceptions. Garden Cafe buffet: Mainly just gross. Go here only if you have no other option. Omelets were ok. Crepes were ok. Fruit salads and slices were good. Soft serve machine was always broken. Topsiders: Mini version of inside buffet food but since it's exposed to heat and humidity, I'd just stay away. They do offer ice cream, and that is the exception here. Wings at O'Sheehan's were ok, as was the Spinach artichoke dip. Everything else we had was just weirdly prepared or not good. Bamboo: Didn't get to experience because strangely the Norwegian app indicated that "Reservations not Accepted". However, when we went there they were only accepting those with reservations. ??? Venetian:. Let me just say this. Save yourself. Eat here. We had something very good at every meal. Although, it takes time for your food, it was worth it. Aqua:. We didn't get to but has same menu as Venetian. Los Lobos:. Good, small portions, and you are paying reasonable ala cart prices. Teppanyaki:. Good. Entertaining but expensive. Drinks:. About average for vacation, figure on $10 drink. We did not do the drink package. We figured we'd have to drink at least 10 drinks a day per person to make it worth it. We brought wine aboard. All in all, it was a fun weekend cruise. Read Less

It was the closest cruise to our 50th anniversary date. Friends had recommended Norwegian. Long time waiting to get aboard, Much better getting off ourselves. We were VERY disappointed in our "Ultimate dining package " We found out at the first restaurant, first night, that it was only good for ONE meal ! I had made reservations for each of the 4 nights, thinking I was getting 4 meals. In speaking to several of your staff prior to the cruise, NOBODY mentioned that we were only getting one meal ! Not very transparent, actually SNEAKY ! Bad Job, Crappy way to treat first time cruisers on Norwegian. But , you probably train them that way. The specialty restaurant , La Cuchina, was only average as it turned out. We cancelled the other 3 reservations, after noticing that they cost about $75 pp ! The breakfasts and dinners in the Venetian dining room were OK. The Beverage package was OK. The pool deck was very crowded, no chairs available and not enough staff to get you a drink without a long wait. This was the smallest ship we have been on. On board shopping was very limited, except if you wanted to spend hundreds or thousands. $10 T shirts were advertised for the last night but there were NONE there, only trinkets and junk . The ring we bought for my wife is turning her finger black. NCLs 100 mins of WIFI was useless, never worked. The entertainment was OK, for a small ship. Patti and Josy were very good. The highlight was our cabin and cabin steward, both very good. The weather was beautiful the whole cruise. Way too short of time to do anything in Bermuda, a place we like alot. Been there before. Stores closed in Hamilton, on a Sunday. We would classify NCL as better than Carnival, not as good as RCL. We would like a response to this review from NCL Read Less

While Norwegian has no control over the weather, thank you Florence, our trip to Canada that was supposed to be Bermuda wasn't a total washout. I like the Dawn overall. The style and decor of the ship was very nice. It was easy to get around and it was exceptionally clean. As a smoker, I know just how nasty the smoking area can be, and even that was kept in tip top shape. Kudo's to the housekeeping staff for a great job. I LOVED the Lido Deck set up. It was much quieter than any Carnival I've been on and the service staff were perfection. Irene knew our names and preferred drinks by the second round. The "washy washy" folks I also loved. They were friendly, funny and served a great purpose. I think all ships should follow NCL's lead on this. Our cabin was a bit tight, but workable. Our bathroom was a joke. Whoever decided that it was a good idea to put a sliding glass door to separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom should be analyzed. Anyone bigger than a teenager would have problems getting in and out of there, let alone a bigger person. Our cabin steward, Stephen was awesome. Our cabin was kept spotless and he was both friendly and professional. We had a "priva-sea" balcony on deck 8. I liked the way is was set back into the hull of the ship, much like a cove balcony on Carnival. Dining. At first I was impressed with all the different options offered. In reality, I was actually disappointed in the quality of the food, the only exemption being Teppanyaki and Moderno. Excellent food AND service, both. La Cucina could take some pointers from Olive Garden to come up to their standards food wise. Service was excellent. Aqua and Venetian, not impressed at all. Food was ehhhh, at best, service as well. 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee? Really? Buffet was ehhhh, as well. Selection was very limited, repeated, and anything that was supposed to be hot seemed to be lukewarm at best. Couldn't get butter to melt on a piece of french toast, a pancake or potatoes to save your life. I did like that there was a "coffee girl" to bring coffee and pastry around in the morning to the Lido Deck area. Reziel was a joy every morning, with her smiles and bubbly personality. Embarkation and Debarkation. AWESOME!!! I have 6 cruises with Carnival and use Faster To The Fun, and getting on and off with NCL in Boston was just as quick and easy as that. Maybe it's just that port, but I was impressed! I usually sail with Carnival. Will I sail with NCL again? ONLY for the Bermuda itinerary. I like the 3 days in port in Bermuda idea. Next time it won't be during hurricane season. Will I sail NCL again for any other cruise? Probably not. While it was "ok"... I find Carnival overall to be a better cruise line. But, that is just my subjective opinion. NCL was fine for what I wanted, and made the best of it when those plans fell through. It was miles from horrible, but a few yards from excellent. Read Less

Us - we're experienced cruisers and platinum plus NCL. The not so good Embarkation - Boston does not have priority boarding for platinum and above. We asked multiple people, all said the same thing. "We don't do that here". NCL needs to be consistent, either have or not at every port. Food - worst food we ever had on an NCL ship, across the board. -Buffet for breakfast is terrible. Cold scrambled eggs, and sausage gravy. Hard biscuits. Eggs benedicts that more hard boiled than poached. -Osheehan's. It was a crap shot. One day you'd have no coffee spoons or jam, with one hash brown on your order and crispy bacon. The next day would have spoons and Jam and 2 hash browns with an order, and bacon so underdone you had to ask if they'd even tried to cook it. -Cagney's and La Cucina Neither one can cook a steak Both nights I ordered medium rare, to only have pink. DW ordered medium only to have no pink. -Teppanyaki - The food was. Actually the scallops were great. But no show. A few twirling knifes and eggs, then done. No singing, no jokes, no volcanoes, no beating heart of rice. The show is part of the reason we go. -Bambo Menu is very limited. We talked to couple later in the week that went, sat down saw the menu and left. Unfortunately we had the spicy chicken, I think it was Kung Pao and fried rice to share. The rice was OK. The chicken was so overcooked it was chewy and dry, with very little spice. Los Lobos - everyone raves about the guacamole. We don't like guac, so maybe that's the only thing to get. The rest of menu was very Americanize pedestrian Mexican. Not as good the Mexican restaurants we go to. We laughed because the prices were about the same as at home. It's OK. But surely not worth spending extra money to eat there. The good Service - Everywhere we went the crew seemed happy and were helpful. Entertainment - Hotwire is a band on board. They are one best cruise ship bands we've ever heard. We pretty much followed their schedule during the week, and attended whenever we could. -Luz the ACD is a don't miss act. One night each week she does her Tina Turner impersonation. We saw her a while back on the Gem. She still belts out Tina Turner tunes as great as ever. AlLl in all, it was fine, I guess. The service and the band make it as memorable, in a good way, as the food made it memorable in a bad way. Would we book the Dawn again? Probably not, as the food is a big part of cruising. Based on the itinerary, would we completely avoid the Dawn? That's still open for us to discuss. Read Less

NCL is our only cruise line we have been on 8 cruises with them. This most recent cruise was the lowest quality out of all the others. It was unfortunate that there were so many low quality things that happened. We had two other couples with us as well and they experienced the same issues. This is definitely not the norm. There were plenty of nice and hard working employees on the ship but the bad ones stand out. First our room Stewart was horrible. The balcony was filthy from the day we got on till the day we got off. The same drink cup, cherry stem and what looked like dried blood on the floor. The toilet smelled of urine the entire cruise, She never cleaned around the coffee maker and we had to bed for more coffee and sugar daily. The bed was the worst we ever stayed on. The shower door fell off on my wife's foot and I had to call security to unlock the safe 3 times, finally stopped using it. Secondly the bars, The pool bar was always backed up took forever to get a drink. O'Sheehans bar maid was terrible and poor attitude she was the only one on and you never got service unless you got up and asked the hostess, then she would never come back. The main dinning Venetian just had bad service There were good things like The main dining Aqua was awesome service friendly and prompt it was our favorite dinner even over the specialty restaurants. The guy cooking burgers up at the top pool bar was very good. The singers husband and wife were awesome . Cruise next guy was great and friendly Front desk services people were very good and friendly. The gym was nice and pretty big but cigarette smoke was coming in somehow must be near a smoking area. Moderno was very good, Cagneys and La,cuchina were good but just not as nice as the new ships. We just went on the maiden voyage of the bliss so maybe we were a little spoiled. The buffet was very good. Not as nice as bliss but clean and fresh Read Less

We picked Norwegian cruise to Bermuda, because the Boston port and Bermuda schedule (2 overnights stay in Bermuda), so we can spend more time in Bermuda and beautifully beaches. Dawn is a middle size ship and kind old. The breakfast was great and late night shows were very good. Not too much activities we were interested, one small swim pool with too many people (hot pools too). Most disappointment was the food in dining room, we did not enjoyed. Didn’t heard any good feedback about the Chinese restaurant too (actually really bad). I don’t understand why can they pick a better chef? Food is very important to us for the trip. So we end up eating at a 24 hours bar restaurant for dinner. The room service was outstanding. Staff was very nice on the ship, they worked very hard with long hours and still smile. A lot of bingo games on the ship, they sell a lot of tickets but with small amount of winners in my opinions. Read Less

The ship left from Boston which made it convenient. The ship was nice, bathrooms throughout the ship needs more attention. Entertainment was average, needs more diverse entertainment. Cruise personnel were very nice. Very small pool. Arrived on Sunday to Bermuda even though most shops closed early on Sunday. The food was very good, loved the chili on the deck near the pool. The drink package was a great value. Again the restrooms needed much more attention. The disembarkation went extremely well. The staff was great and the crew worked really hard, god bless them. The room service was great. The staff at the front desk needed a little more patience with first time cruisers. One of the people who was with the group I was in expressed concern about being rushed and inconsistent information. This was not our first cruise so we addressed her questions and concerns. Overall the experience was good. The guests on the ship were very friendly and we met a lot of people. Read Less

This was suggested by family and I was a bit disappointed - there were kids running around everywhere and small ones in the pool and the kiddie pool had teenagers in it, The food was definitely not good. Same menu in both dinning rooms - fish and chicken were fried - nothing broiled or baked, an the drinks were watered down. The entertainment going out was not too good but better on the way back. The gift shop had very little suggestions and the items were not really that nice to purchase. Mainly I was disappointed with the food. On the deck burgers, hot dogs and pork chops everyday - not much for people who do not eat meat. Also, at midnight not many places to go to eat or even have something healthy to eat. The ship was so crowded you could not get a lounge chair on the deck all day - and the cushions on the seats where the tables were were wet all the time - they should not have cushions on the chairs. Also, the smoker's lounge should NOT be near other lounges it is impossible to sit in the Gatsby lounge with the cigar and cigarette smoke all over that place. There should be a separate area not near the lounge or bar areas. I could go on and on but I think this is enough because I am sure no one even cares what I wrote. Read Less

I've recently gone on the cruise with my husband and two kids. Overall, the dining experience was good, the cabin was clean, and Bermuda is beautiful. The entertainment was good. I liked the dynamic duo, the jazz music and DJ John Khromer. They also had nightly activities in the Bliss Lounge and the Stardust Theater. They have a casino but I'm not sure about the charges since I don't gamble. However, they do charge extra for everything, gratuities were over $400 for the four of us, 14.99 per person per day X7 days. The cocktails start at $12.95 plus 20% service charge. You can bring you own wine, but you have to pay $15 corkage fee to drink it. You have to give a $25 deposit for a beach towel from the pool area, so you have to hang on tight to the beach towels provided in your cabin. In addition, there's only one pool for adults, so it gets overcrowded. Read Less

We took a cruise for Bermuda in August. The boat was overcapacity, we couldn’t attend any show’s or go swimming in the pool because they were too many people. When we reserved the cruise it says 3 days in Bermuda which wasn’t the case we arrived in Bermuda Sunday at 3 o’clock and departed Tuesday 5 o’clock. We always went to the Venetian restaurants witch was very good on the service and the food was delicious. The only problem is the fact they would open so early in the morning so on vacation you don’t want to wake up to take a breakfast.....They should extend the opening hours in the morning. I’ve got to say the evening were boring we didn’t know much what to do since they were no room for the shows . About the excursions we’ve found they were very expensive and the staff wouldn’t give that much information about Bermuda they would just want to sale. Read Less

I went on this cruise as part of a group of five others. I shared an outside cabin with a balcony. The ship is smaller than normal which made things a little too cozy. The deck pool was tiny and the three "jacuzzis" were lukewarm. In order to get a "warm" jacuzzi, I had to pay almost $200 extra to gain access to the spa for one week then they had issues with the temperature regulation element and I couldn't use the spa two of the six days. Food was adequate but not spectacular. The best food is found in the smaller specialty restaurants, however, we had a shellfish cross contamination issue at the French restaurant which made one of the guests in our party have a medical emergency. Halfway through the cruise, I decided to try my hand at the casino. The electronic games are tied to the room for charges. The problem is, the office will place "a hold" on your credit card for the mandatory daily service charge instead of putting the charge through each day. As the "hold" is not an official charge until it is put through, you cannot pay it off until it becomes an official charge. In order to avoid the hold, I paid a $700 cash deposit on the room instructing them to NOT charge the credit card unless I ran out of cash. They kept the cash and charged my credit card anyway at the end of the cruise WITHOUT authorization. As easy as it was for them to take my money and charge my card, you think it would be just as easy to refund the $700 which has not yet happened. I am pretty sure it is illegal, but it is now a lesson learned. The staff was all over the place in terms of service. Some of the Bartenders were amazing, yet many of the staff members are not only not very friendly, but downright rude. I personally watched them argue with their passengers. When they screwed up with my credit card hold issue, I was told that I was to blame and to call my credit card company instead of just trying to solve the issue. Security was slow at responding to emergencies at best. There was an issue both in the casino and the dance club and during both times, it took over 15 minutes for security to get there. Even though I spent a great deal of time walking through the main concourse, I was never greeted or approached by the excursions or entertainment staff. I felt like they did not think I had sufficient income as a single traveler to bother with any offers. Norwegian charges almost $200 for the week just to get access to email WiFi. There is no per day purchase option so it is all or nothing which is frustrating since I only needed to check it a couple of times for emergencies. An average cruise at best where they spent most of their energies finding ways to separate the passengers from their money. Read Less

This was our fifth cruise with NCL - our third on the Norwegian Dawn since our first cruise on her in 2012. The ship had been recently renovated, so looked nicer than our previous cruises, but we are concerned about two specific unsavory issues that affected our enjoyment of this past cruise. The first issue was that with the remodel, the former complementary Garden Café Buffet lost space to the new "Los Lobos" where Ala Carte dishes are ordered from a menu with a charge per item on the menu. There are now five Ala Carte dining venues and two Cover Charge dining venues (at $24.95 and $29.95). Because the Garden Cafe has fewer seats, we were forced to walk around carrying our food until we were able to beat someone else to a table as it was vacated! The complementary Venetian and Aqua dining venues did not impress as the service was slow and the menu choices were not very good. The second issue was that upon embarking, the Welcome Aboard document stated that it was possible to sign up for Wireless Access that was compatable with smart phones, tablets or laptops. We went to the Internet Cafe and signed up for Unlimited Talk, Text and Email with Bojan, the attendant. He took my card, swiped it, and proceeded to set up the App on my IPhone. It worked beautifully and well worth the less than $200 I paid for it! The problem was, that actually I never really had the App!! This I discovered the hard way when I received my regular wireless bill three days ago with a charge of $355.00 for international calls for the dates I was on the ship! I got out my statement to see what I was actually charged and discovered that I was never charged for the unlimited wireless that I thought I had! This review, therefore, is to notify anyone who is planning a cruise on an NCL ship - most specifically, the Dawn, to be aware that you have to be very cautious regarding the Unlimited Talk, Text and Email! The problem finding seating in the Garden Cafe was annoying, but at least it did not cost us money that we were not expecting to pay. Bermuda is a lovely port, and we have nothing but praise for the visit there. We were impressed with the fact that NCL operated a free shuttle service to St. Georges from the port at Royal Dockyards. Way to go! Read Less

While the ship was relatively nice (I've been on better), I wasn't wowed by anything on board. It had decent amenities, but it was near impossible to find anywhere to sit. Seating was more difficult outside because on the entire port side of the ship, they allow smoking. That's on deck 7, outside (so if you want to take a nice evening walk, for one half of the walk, you're walking through cigarette smoke). If you want to sit out by the pool, you better sit starboard or smell the smoke. You can even smell the smoke in some of the stairwells, and even the the Garden Cafe if things blow just right, which is disgusting. You can smoke in the casino, which has no doors, so the smoke comes out of there into the rest of the ship. Frankly, as soon as you got on the ship, mid-ship where Le Bistro is, you could smell the smoke. Just gross. So, if you're a non-smoker on the Dawn, good luck getting away from it. We also had an issue with our balcony neighbors smoking on their balcony. It took two days for Guest Services to remedy the issue, and ultimately took the head of Housekeeping catching them for something to be said about it. It's a safety hazard and should been dealt with immediately! The smoking issue aside, the rest of the cruise was okay. The food was decent, the service was good, and the entertainment was great. Cagney's was the best - 20 oz. Porterhouse was to die for. My wife and I went there for an anniversary dinner and the staff sang us a song and gave us an anniversary cake. Very unexpected, but very nice. We really enjoyed the music of Manila Soul, the ship band. They were fantastic. They had a large repertoire, and they played every day! One of the best things about the cruise was the extremely nice greeter at the Garden Cafe who sprayed the disinfectant on your hands. That had to be the happiest guy in the world. He sang songs and greeted you with a smile every time! Happy happy, washy washy! In all, the cruise was fine once we found the places to avoid the smoke, but having to think about that constantly took away from the overall enjoyment. Read Less

Bermuda was absolutely beautiful. The Cruise itself was okay. We have bern on 2 carnival cruises and a Disney cruise in the past. This cruise doesn’t come close to the outstanding service of Disney. NCL you could do so much better. We were a party of 12 and had 3 ocean view family cabins. The NCL staff was average at best. Extremely slow service at pool area and main dining areas. Took forever to get a drink and I’m wondering if it was because we had the drink package included. Specially dining was much better. My parents have cruised with NCL many times. It was their 50 anniversary, but nothing special was done by NCL A simple card in their cabin would have been a thoughtful. You missed the boat on that one! If another cruise line sails from Boston in the future, I will definitely sail with them instead of NCL. Read Less

Trying to have time with kids was difficult unless you wanted to subject them to these shows or spend money on bingo. The Butler was great as was the room steward. Very nice ad always pleasant. The app iConcierge was really good. Tapyeneki was one of the high points of the cruise. The chef was awesome. Boarding was easy as well as getting off in Bermuda. Kids were 13, 14, 19, 21 and 24. The food was not very good in the dining room it was better in the buffet but not by much. I would advice you not to stay in a inside cabin midship on level 5 because of the noise all night long and if you go to guest services they will give earplugs and say the noise is from the casino but it's not. My grandson did enjoy the kiddy pool and arcade, the shows they had on board the ship were good. Boarding the ship and getting off the ship were pretty easy and the excursions were ok except for the Royal Naval beach your better off taking a cab to Horseshoe Bay beach. We booked this cruise as a last minute something to do after being home for a while. It was our first time on the Dawn but not first time cruising with NCL. We had a balcony on the 9th floor right across from the lounge entrance. Our cabin was nice but as in all balconies there was little room to maneuver. We really enjoyed the lounge area, had never seen that on the other ships we have been on. The atrium was beautiful and we liked the stage area being in between the 7th and 8th floor with a view from the 9th floor lounge, while listening to Patti and Jose sing each night. We had a dinner package and a drink package, which is well worth the service charge that you pay. Since we booked this cruise late, we didn’t get the best choices in dinner reservations so I highly recommend making those reservations as soon as you can. The filet at Cagney’s was the best we have ever had......so tender and flavorful! We tried the Mexican restaurant (not offered on all NCL ships) and didn’t care for their version of Mexican. The main dining room is always nice but basically the same menu every day. I was a little disappointed that people didn’t dress a little better for dinner. The crew is always so very helpful and friendly. The waiters in the bar get to know you and remember what you drink. This cruise was a little different for us Southerners......95% of the people on this ship were from Boston and many were regulars. Enough said about that! The entertainment was good.....there were 2 comedians and both were funny! We didn’t see the Elements show because we enjoyed Patti and Jose so much and our last night we just stayed and listened to them. We had 2 excursions booked but the one on our last day was cancelled due to the rain. We took the Evening Cruise to the Bermuda Triangle in a glass bottom boat and the guide was very good and humorous. We were supposed to see a shipwreck but never saw it.....just a piece of the ship sticking up out of the water. And we were supposed to see fish....well, we saw several of the same kind of fish. I was looking for some pretty fish and it was some big white fish....not very interesting! Bermuda is a very expensive place.....lunch for 2 was about $50, but I guess that is expected in Bermuda. NCL has a free ferry that we took to St George’s and then took a bus back for sightseeing. I never saw the pink sand except as we rode by and it looked beige to me......someone on the bus told me that that was as pink as it got. Bottom line......I love to cruise and don’t care where I go, as long as I am cruising!! Read Less

We chose this cruise for convenience being from the Greater Boston area. We are a retired couple in our mid 60's enjoying retirement while we can. This was our 6th trip to Bermuda via cruise ship - 2nd time on the Dawn and previously on the Spirit and Majesty. We were traveling with a local band who would be playing on board as well. Embarkation went well - we had an assisgned arrival time of 10:00 - 10:30 and we arrived at 10:00 am and we were in the VIP lounge by 10:30. Boarding from the lounge started just after 11:00 am and we were in the Moderno dining room eating lunch at Noon. Cabins were not ready until after 1:30 so we just enjoyed sitting near the pool and people watching. The Dawn has been around a long time and starting to show her age. She is well kept and looks good, but it will be nice to have a newer ship sailing from Boston next year. She is easy to navigate - the public decks are laid out well and one can get from bow to stern easily. Around 1:30 we went to our cabin, met our steward and left our carry-on things. We then set out to re-familiarize ourselves with the ship. Luggage came up around 3:00 pm and we were able to unpack and get ready for dinner. Our steward was nice, but we had to keep asking for things like our water (latitudes perk), a bath mat, soap - things that should have been in our cabin but weren't until we asked. This is a very casual cruise - you won't find a lot of "dressy" attire. Formal nite has been replaced with "Dress up or Not" - and we saw very few (if any) suits on the gents or formal cocktail dresses on the ladies. Mostly dressy tops with capris or long skirts, Maxie and short dresses on the women and dockers or nice slacks on the men with golf shirts. We even saw shorts in the main dining rooms so clearly the dress code has relaxed and gone is the "glitz and glamour" that is still seen on other cruise lines. ( and we miss that!) The entertainment was good - PJ a magician from Korea, and Chris Burke a singer from Nashville (soul music not country!) were both great. We had a good comedian, Sam Fedele, but he was only on the ship for one week with us. We have seen the "Elements" show before but enjoyed it again. The International Crew Show is always a favorite, and we enjoyed seeing cultural dances from around the word, and singers using their native language. Such talent! There are plenty of activities every day - trivia, game shows, bingo, etc and you can find something to do if you are looking for that. The pool is small, and as always you have to get up at the crack of dawn to get a chair near the pool or in the small shaded areas. There are rules about saving chairs but no one pays attention. The hot tubs were consistently full with a lot of small children (even babies in diapers - yuck!) and no personal or pool staff to tell them that's a NO-NO - what a germ breeding environment - and the kids were "snorkeling" in the hot tub - YIKES! We are not against seeing children on a cruise ship, but we were genuinely concerned for the health and well being of these kids with no adult supervision... it's the lack of parenting that gets me going.... NOTE: There are NO STRAWS currently on the ship due to environmental policy changes. They are working on getting paper straws but for now, bring your own! We always bring refillable water bottles so had a straw when needed for those frozen drinks! Dining - was disappointing! We had VIP access to Moderno for breakfast and lunch which was very good. The buffet was okay for breakfast and we were glad to see the "made to order" omelet and egg station. Bacon was greasy and limp - we only ate there 2 times. Lunch in the buffet had the same offerings the few times we checked - if we weren't in Moderno's we had lunch from the grill - hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage, chicken and fixings to go with them - French Fries were great here! For dinner we ate in Venetian a few nights - the menu's were "blah" - the nights we did eat there were disappointing. The Prime Rib was mostly fat, steak was served with French Fries not baked potato and the Pork Loin was a large pork chop with bone in that was very dry and tough. We ate in Teppanyaki and Cagney's and those meals were fabulous - but we shouldn't have to pay extra to get good food! We ate at O'Sheehans several times and the food there was good - fast too! We found service overall to be good, but you no longer see bar staff "hustling" beverages, We felt there were far less bar service people around the pool and theater and in the lounges than in the past and I believe it's because most people have the package and there is no incentive for them to "sell". Drinks were good but as mentioned before - hard to drink frozen concoctions without a straw! Having been to Bermuda several times we "do our own thing". We docked around 1:00 pm and we waited till the crowds left and then went for a walk around the Dockyard. There are several stores and museums to look around in but we were happy to have less people on the ship around the pool! NCL has a complimentary ferry running from the Dockyard to St. George which is a beautiful little village to walk around. We like Tobacco Bay on that end of the island for snorkeling so we went there the second day. The third day we went to Snorkel Park which is a very short walk from the ship ( less than 10 minutes). It's a nice clean beach with facilities, and food services and good place to snorkel when the weather cooperates. It was very windy on our day there so the water was rough and cloudy. Read Less

I chose this cruise so that I could spend a couple days in one place. Bermuda is neat, but I think I would have preferred going to multiple locations. Being a first time cruiser I did not know what to expect or what I wanted out of a cruise. The cabin next to us was filled with screaming children and arguing parents. The children would scream at each other for no apparent reason but "having fun," and the parents would scream at the children and each other because of the children. There was not a single day on my "vacation" that my boyfriend and I were NOT woken up at 6am to the sound of children screaming, jumping on the bed, or a mixture of both. On day 2 I complained to management... and actually everyday going forward. Nothing was done to make our stay better or to quiet the children. At one point I knocked on their door and had a nice conversation with the mother about how all we hear is kids screaming and them arguing. Not shocking to me that in the middle of our conversation her husband screamed at her to get back in the room. Complimentary dining on the ship is plentiful, but simply mediocre. Nothing was special about these restaurants, and honestly most of it tasted like chicken bouillon according to my boyfriend. The specialty dining, however, was superb. Excellent. If I do go on another cruise you will find me here for each meal even if I have to pay. Unlimited beverage package is nice but bottled water and coffee aren't included? I mean come on. The ships water tasted like pool water, so I purchased a pack of waters that would have cost $7 at Costco for $28... a little steep considering I am paying for the all-inclusive aspect. On an unfortunate note, my grandmother passed away on our first full day in Bermuda. Unable to get reception on my phone, I found myself in the room making calls back home to speak with my family while my grandmother is on her death bed. I racked up about $100 of phone calls in 10 minutes or so. Frazzled, upset, and unsure where to turn I went to the reception desk because this amount of money for a phone call is ridiculous. I told the lady at the desk my issue and she simply said she could not reverse the charges. I reminded her that I was calling my family DUE TO MY GRANDMOTHER DYING. Again, very unsympathetic and borderline rude ... she stated it would be up to a manager and she did not have the authority. I asked her when the manager would be in and she had no idea. It was mind boggling to me that it took this much effort for something that would have made me feel a lot better in the moment - refunding the charges. Later that night a manager must have approved it because the charges came off my account, but the point holds. I was so upset and did not receive the level of service I was expecting for the money I paid for that cruise. The bartenders, waitstaff, shows, and cruise staff were all incredible. They work very hard and I hope they get paid accordingly. I just can't get past the rude receptionist that gave me push back on the phone call charges and the staff not doing anything about the obnoxious cabin next door. Read Less

I live in the Boston area so a cruise out of Boston and/or terminating in Boston is a plus (minimizing air travel is always a plus). Embarking/disembarking was typical for an ocean going cruise as was the cabin and most other amenities (I'm a six time cruiser, "typical" means quite good and no complaints). Dining was free style so no reserved table in the evening and a different wait staff each time. I missed that from other cruises. Norwegian seems to be steering you to the specialty dining venues: smaller, better food, more intimate but cost extra. That is the Norwegian theme. Everything seems to cost extra. I suspect the up front costs are deliberately kept low to attract customers but you seem to pay constantly for day to day amenities such as drinks (wine $11, beer $9); unless you buy the "Ultimate" drink package which is exorbitant. Speaking of which, the Norwegian Internet site sucks, it fails to inform you of all the various drink packages available. You don't find out your options until you board. There is a beer package and a wine package available. The wine package worked for me. Forget Internet service (at least for me). I purchased 175 minutes of Internet and got like 10 minutes. The rest of the minutes went down the drain. If you don't make a point of logging out of their app, the minutes just keep counting. I went to the Network guru the first time and he restored my lost minutes, but even then I lost minutes big time (download time can be extensive and counts toward your allocation and it seemed even logging out of the app stop the clock). Simply not worth it. You're on vacation, forget the Internet! Money is better spent on a drink package or an excursion on Bermuda. I wish I'd done that. Biggest complaint for me was no quiet spot. There were four days at sea and for me, the only quiet spot for reading or contemplating the horizon was my balcony. Every public venue was noisy or had some entertainment or noisy and crowded. Even the promenade deck had very few lounge chairs. The other ships I've been on all had a lounge or two overlooking the bow or stern with views and with wait service and was fairly quiet and peaceful and a place for conservation, except for an occasional event. I missed that and found it a real drawback, particularly since we spent four days at sea. My biggest complaint. Read Less

The Norwegian Dawn is a Small ship with below-average service, entertainment, and food. For instance, the main show, called Elements, looks like it was put together by a well-funded high school. I felt so bad for the incredible performers who had to star in such a laughable production. In addition, Norwegian forces Constant nickel-and-diming, and they have very poor organization for meal times, debarkation, etc. The entertainment was very heteronormative, and plastic cups are used needlessly and in large quantities with little opportunity for recycling. People blatantly break the rules and monopolize lounge chairs, and the crew does nothing to stop them, meaning it’s almost impossible to get a spot. There is only one small pool for general use; the other one costs $200 per person. The hot tubs are small and children are allowed in them. Teenagers run amok, with neither their parents nor the crew keeping them from terrorizing other passengers. And the smoking areas are expansive and loosely enforced, meaning you’re choking on cigarette smoke constantly. But Bermuda and the excursions were amazing. We went on the snorkeling in the Bermuda Triangle tour with Water Tours (booked through Norwegian), and it was amazing. We also enjoyed the aquarium and highlights tour. Spending 3 days in the same port was actually really great, as we got to orient ourselves and spend more time exploring. Read Less

We are a married couple in our early 60's. This was our 13th cruise - 4 on Carnival, 4 on Royal Caribbean, 5 on NCL. I booked this cruise 8 days before (perk of being recently retired!) and got a fairly decent price. We booked a balcony guarantee and was assigned cabin 9660 (Cat BA) within a few days. We drove to Boston from Western Mass, parked at the open air lot at the bow of the ship for $175 for the week. Very convenient! We arrived at 10:40 and were onboard within an hour. We went straight to the Garden Cafe for lunch, which wasn't too crowded just yet. Not long after they announced cabins were ready. We absolutely loved the location of this cabin! There is a door in the hallway that says "Lounge", kind of a secret door that led into a quiet lounge on deck 9 that overlooked the Grand Atrium. The grand staircase is right there and within seconds we were at O'Sheehan's or one more flight to the Atrium. The cabin was just fine, clean and roomy enough. New carpeting and the best mini fridge ever! It actually was COLD! Our cabin steward, Errol was awesome, probably the best we ever had. Introduced himself right away, always had a smile and pleasant chit chat whenever we saw him. Towel animals every night, which makes this old girl happy. The pool area is mobbed on nice sea days. We rarely use the pool but do like to sit and people watch. It was hard to find a chair within view of the pool. The casino was crazy! I love casinos but actually avoided this one! I tried a few times but at night it is insanely packed and smoky. I did stop by midday on sea days, it wasn't too bad but still smoky and LOUD (announcements for tournaments). I had absolutely zero luck so between that and the crowds I actually saved some money by not going as often as I usually do! Bars/Lounges - our favorite was the Java Cafe in the Grand Atrium, but you had to get there early if you wanted a table before any entertainment started. We also liked Gatsby's, same deal. Both had great drinks and service was excellent. Pool bar was crazy busy. Bimini Bar on deck 14 was nice if you can get a table on a nice day. O'Sheehan's is good too. The "lounge" on deck 9 did have servers come up once in awhile but we only tried that once...after placing our order and the girl didn't come back for over 20 minutes we went looking for her in O'Sheehan's and found her and our drinks - I think she forgot where we were! We did not have the drink package...we found out that you have to be very specific when ordering, for example, I was drinking Margaritas. There is one on the menu for $12.95 (I forgot the actual name of it) but a "house" margarita is $8.95. Twice when I didn't specify "house", I was served the more expensive drink which tasted absolutely no different to me! So, remember to be clear when ordering! Entertainment - We weren't wild about the cruise director, Luz. I found her a little hard to understand and just not very entertaining. The assistant cruise director, Jefferson would have been better! We loved the singers, Jose and Patti, they are awesome. We also enjoyed Degas and his guitar in the lounges. The comedian was Julie Barr who was very funny. The PJ Magic Show was great. The singers and dancers were entertaining, those kids work so hard. They had plenty of bingo, Deal or No Deal, demonstrations of this and that and loads of sales pitches. Food...I know food is subjective so this is just our opinion, 2 regular schmucks who LOVE food. My husband absolutely loves a buffet but not this one. We found that about 75% of the food that we tried was luke warm to cold. The selection was repetitive and boring. Everyday the hot food selection started with white rice, then some kind of stew. They had "country fried chicken" and it was a paper thin slice of dried up chicken...not exactly what I would call fried chicken, more like a chicken finger! We went one night around at 8:30 to find one side was already closed and very limited offerings on the side that was open. I asked if there was any beef or chicken as it was mostly fish and they directed me to the so called grilled chicken breast which is the same paper thin dry chicken, just without the breading. So disappointing. This was our 13th cruise and by far this was the worse buffet. The hamburg patties weren't bad but the bun was way too big. Pizza ended up being the only thing I liked and it was on one side, not the other. It was strange that they had stuff on both sides that were the same and then one item wasn't on the one side and you had to go all the way back to get it. Aggravating. We ate breakfast there only once because most items were cold. I hate searching for a table, then get water, coffee, juice and then food. We ended up at O'Sheehan's for breakfast almost every morning. Some of the side items were cold but the eggs were always cooked to order. The first morning our toast was more like bread so the next day we asked for it to be double toasted and from then on it was perfect. The menu is limited but just ask for something else...for example, they have English muffins, but it doesn't say it on the menu...you can order an omelet with a side of bacon and french toast, etc. We had prompt, courteous service and most of the time we had a booth looking out at the sea. We ate dinner in Aqua twice, late at night, between 9 and 9:30. Even though I asked for a "private table" for 2, they tried to seat us at the long bench of tables with 6" between tables. To me, that is NOT a private table for 2. So, both times I asked, can we sit over there, pointing to a table and both times they brought us to the other side of the restaurant to the damn bench seats but not too close to others. The 2nd night, it was almost 9:45 and a woman came in alone...the place is almost empty and they sat her right next to me. We were practically hitting elbows. I will never understand why they do that. At least leave a space between! The food was very tasty, served a little too fast (perhaps because it was so late) and the servers were friendly. We had dinner in Bamboo and the same thing happened with seating....sigh....but the food was very good. We ate dinner in O'Sheehan's twice, no problem with a "private table" there! And the food was hot and good. Ate dinner twice in the buffet and absolutely hated it. Kept wanting to give it a try because DH loves a buffet but.... Lunch was mostly in the buffet or poolside. It was okay for a quick lunch. We did lunch once in the Venetian which was very good. Everyday I stopped by Topsiders Ice Cream for dessert...love ice cream! One day they had Rum Raisin and it was great! There is also a soft service ice cream way in the back of the buffet on the portside. We certainly didn't go hungry, there are plenty of options. Just very disappointed in the buffet as that is where we usually eat most nights, but not on this ship. What is nice on Norwegian is they have the 24/7 O'Sheehan's and "snacks" available all the time in the buffet. We did not try room service. Now a lot of people will say I'm just complaining about nothing, because my next topic is the television. People say they don't have time to watch TV on a cruise but we tend to take one or two breaks a day and just go flop on the bed for an hour or so and I like to watch TV before bed. They have 7 ship channels playing the same things over and over again....4 news channels - International CNBC, FOX News, MSNBC, BBC, one sports channel, something called Engage, 2 movie channels and 1 TV show channel. I don't know about you but when I'm on vacation the last thing I want to watch is the news, especially lately. And they were on 24/7. The 2 movie channels we okay but we never knew what was starting when so it was either in progress or going to start in 23 minutes. The TV channel played things like Big Bang Theory which is fine but the shows ran without commercials so it would be on for 21 minutes and then there was nothing for the next 9 minutes. It may seem petty to complain about TV but I don't remember anything like this on other cruises. If you have small children, you might want to download some kids shows - they did have some kids programming but not much. This was our 4th trip to Bermuda. A beautiful, friendly island. The weather was perfect. Late May is a nice time to go! Previously we had been there in September and October and it was hot!!! We had a great time, even though I sound like I complaining here! I research before my cruises and I appreciate honest reviews and that's what I'm trying to do here. Read Less

We just came off the Dawn, Boston to Bermuda. embarkation was not too bad at all and we made it onto the ship in about 45 mins. Once on the ship we walked around to get the layout...being lunch time we headed to the buffet in the back of the ship....total mayhem, we opted to head to the pool deck for a burger ...which was good. They announced rooms open and we went to our balcony cabin 10206, starboard side aft. It was clean but on the small side but enough room for two. The bathrooms were on the small side but ok. The cabin and the ship were always kept clean and neat. We never did the freestyle cruising before but go the hang of it. NCL has a rather relaxed dress code, there were no Formal nights....long pants and collared shirt for men seemed to meet the codes. Shorts were allowed in the dining room on almost every night. We chose to eat in the dining room or a specialty restaurant every night. The Buffett was just crazy, ie morning breakfast lines on two sides ended with the Omelet station ...which backed up the line as people waiting for their egg ordered stayed in line and kept the rest of the line from moving forward. ...Dining room food was good. Specialty dining was great..go for the packages. We had the free drink package, a first for us...what I did not like was you did not get a receipt after you get your drink...so there was no way of telling how much they charged for the gratuity or service charge...strange... Some bars carried certain liquors some did not...so you have to search out which bar has your brand . Staff was very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was ok. Cruise director does a Tina Turner set and is great. Shopping on board is really not worth the bother, no great prices at all...even when they put things on sale. Our cabin was under the Spa...noise in the middle of the night when they do the floors, but it does not last that long. One big gripe was on several occasions we stopped at Osheehans for a cocktail, the first time, I had to go to the bar after waiting 20 minutes to ask if we could have someone come take our drink orders, ...10 mins later someone came...and we got a drink....we were there over an hour and a half and that was the only time we got served a drink...we tried to give it another chance but it was bad...we moved on to another bar for our cocktails...I am sure there is more but my mind is whirling around after just getting off. Not sure if we would do the Dawn again but it is not a bad ship by any means... Read Less

We have cruised on this ship many times over the years and always had a great time. This time, however, there was a big difference, THE FOOD. I don't know what happened but the food was well below what we have been accustomed to over the years. Starting with the 3 buffets daily, the selection was lacking any imagination what so ever. The food was bland, to say the least. During breakfast the omelet station which has always been a mainstay was not good, the eggs tasted like they were watered down, the person running the station could only prepare one omelet at a time. During lunch and dinner, the meats were dry and the assortment of accompanying side dishes were bland. The ship was clean and our stateroom was typical. The entertainment was average at best. Even the ships stores were different. My wife picked out something from the Duty-Free shop that was clearly marked $81.00 and when it was rung up it was $101.00. The associate brought in a manager and we went right to the spot it displayed at and they admitted it was marked $81.00 but tried to say it wasn't their fault it was labeled incorrectly. Past sailings would have been handled much differently. The manager would have apologized for their mistake and made it right. This time the manager was very unprofessional and argumentative. Overal it was a very disappointing cruise. Read Less
