Despite this ship being "refurbished" it is severely outdated!! I felt like areas such as the ceiling were not maintained well, many fixtures were tarnished and attention to detail was lacking. All our other cruises had different carpet to distinguish port vs starboard, however, this ship did not. The carpet was also stained and I saw a place where chunks were missing. The picture in the cabin did not match any of the other decor (more modern) and none of the pictures in the halls made me go, "Wow! That's cool." I was not impressed with service by any means. Our main waiter was a delight & very friendly, we felt like dinner (& even breakfast in the main dining) took forever. Sometimes up to 1.5 hours with 3 children. Not ideal. Our oldest also asked for a straw, every single night (sometimes multiple times) and received a straw maybe 4-5 times on a 9 night cruise. When we had breakfast in the main dining area we rarely saw whoever was waiting on us. We opted for the Wind jammer for most breakfasts for this reason. Lobster night was a disaster and our table went by the way side. The dining room was not full but it was obvious that the staff were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The next day, my husband ran into our waiter who apologized and said they have to wait for the lobster and count each lobster tail that goes out. He said it's like that every lobster night. Entertainment left a lot to be desired! While the comedy shows & skits were funny and entertaining I would expect these type of events to be held at one of the bars. Almost ALL of the music is geared towards senior citizens. I hardly heard anything current or music I knew or enjoyed (in my mid 30's). Shows were skimped on in our opinion. I booked a 75 minute hot stone massage at the spa while in port and also stopped in to find out the class schedule in the gym. I thought the gym schedule was very limited and times were not convenient. For my massage, I arrived on time (15 minutes early) with another woman and there was no body at the receptionist desk. The gym trainer came out and after sitting at the desk for a few minutes finally asked what I needed. ((Umm...what?!)) He directed me to the relaxation room and I asked if I need to fill out any papers. He said, no that the massage therapist would handle this. The woman and I went to the room and she looked at me and said, "that was the oddest greeting I've ever had at a spa!" I couldn't agree more! On top of that, we sat for awhile before being greeted by anyone in the spa. And of course, there was paper work to fill out! My massage therapist was out at the desk helping people (as there was no receptionist there) and later apologized for the wait. I waited over 35 minutes between the relaxation room and a long time between undressing for my massage. There was NO discount taken, which really surprised me. There were no extras such as aromatherapy and no tea or snacks offered while waiting at any time. While the massage was lovely, it was over priced. Wi-Fi was not always reliable and in my opinion, $16 a day is outrageous for Wi-Fi. I would NOT recommend this boat for those cruising with children! We cruised with our children ages 2, 6 & 9. Our oldest, also has high functioning autism. There are not a lot of kid activities on board and seemed solely geared towards senior citizens. The kids club/nursery hours left a lot to be desired. The nursery is limited to 5-6 babies/toddlers at a time. The kids club is very small and is limited, I believe to 50 - 3-11 y.o. Overall, the staff was very nice & supportive! On Day #8, there was a belly flop contest & volleyball tournament in the ONLY pool that kids are allowed in. It was our last "nice" day (weather wise) on the ship -- why on earth would you close the pool kids are allowed in? I should also note here that NO swim diapers are allowed in the pool and that there are no areas for children to get wet who aren't potty trained. We were told by a lifeguard to just take the swim diaper off. ((Uhh...what?!?) The one activity that we really enjoyed as a family was the scavenger hunt. We had 30 minutes to find staff members from various countries. I was irritated with how many senior citizens who shushed my children (on excursions and the boat) and asked me to tell my children to be quiet & stop running around. For every time this happened, there were at least 3 couples (grandparents & parents cruising without children) who stopped to say we had a lovely family and sweet children. While I realize RC has nothing to do with this, it made my experience and my children's experience unpleasant. This is our vacation as well. We had an infuriating experience while boarding the ship in Charleston. The previous night we had asked guest services if we would be allowed to bring on (sweetened) Vanilla Almond milk as this is a dietary restriction and the only thing my autistic son will drink besides water. He also takes his medications in the milk (hides the taste). We also had a doctor's note asking to allow us to bring this on ship in port. She told my husband to follow up in the morning as she would email someone to find out. We did and at that point there was NO answer. The representative called security and they told us this would be NO problems bringing back on board. When we returned to the ship. The gentleman who scanned our cards confiscated the milk and told us that Almond milk had been provided in our cabin and that we were not allowed to bring on the almond milk. We explained that my son would not drink their almond milk because it was not sweetened and that we went through security with no issues, that they had approved it earlier in the day, etc. My husband spent at least 45 minutes fighting with various staff members. We were told that they attempted to contact us in our stateroom (never called either of our cell phones) and that they "changed their minds" per the FBM (Food & Beverage Manager) because they were having an inspection. My husband explained several times that this was a dietary & medical need for our son. We also argued that we brought on two containers in Baltimore with no issues. Why when we were still in the US would we have issues. And their website clearly states that food/drinks may be brought on for dietary purposes. Finally, after arguing the manager said, "Fine, I'll take a risk allowing you to bring this on." We also requested a fridge prior to our cruise and it was not in our stateroom when we arrived. Our stewardess brought a medical cooler but the almond milk did not fit in this and I kept our milk in a small cooler, getting ice every 12 hours. Once they provided us almond milk, they exchanged the cooler for a fridge on Day #3. Shore excursions booked through RC were NOT family friendly. We did a guided tour of Kennedy Space Center. This tour was between 11-7:30. There was NO planned lunch or dinner. This would have been nice to know having 3 small children. We bought junk to hold them over. There was no schedule provided and very limited free time. Our tour guide was knowledgeable but not very friendly. It was hard to hear her and quite frankly became boring (possibly due to the lack of food/energy). It was also A LOT of hurry up and wait. We also had an issue with this excursion because we did not realize our shore excursions tickets were left in our Day 1 daily "newsletter". We went to the shore excursions desk the night before to have them printed. However, the day of the excursion when we were standing in line, we realized that they printed my husband & I's tickets 3x each. Remember, party of 5. Our tour guide took ALL the tickets and told us to take it up with the shore excursion staff. The next day, we checked and the assistant manager was called and came out to explained that our credit card was charged for SIX adults but would be refunded after we explained the situation. Funny thing is, is the tour guide gave a count for those tickets, that assistant manager was not happy with them either. Our next RC shore excursion was at Atlantis (Nassau, Bahamas). We went on a small tour bus with about 25 people. We went in a door and we immediately were left behind with another family because there were NO ramps for strollers. Literally, we were left to find our own way through the resort. My husband and the other dad took turns carrying both strollers down the various steps. About 20 minutes later, after wondering around, we found our "guide" who had a few remaining people left and had to ask where the kids section was. She had zero clue that we were left behind. It was unacceptable!!!! On a side note: the family that we met at Atlantis were on their first cruise and had the exact same complaints that we had! They were wondering if cruising just wasn't for them. Overall, this cruise left A LOT to be desired. My husband and I have sailed 4 times, twice with our 3 children. I'm not sure if a bigger Royal Caribbean ship would suit us better or what. But I'm hesitant to book again with RC as we were not impressed. For a cruise line that offers Autism on the Seas program this was not even a kid friendly boat nor did the staff understand the needs for special needs children. After spending what we did, it was a disappointment. However, we tried to make the best of it. Read Less

I have cruised before with carnival a great experience on Fantasy but this cruise on Ecstasy was terrible. The food was disgusting the only thing i could eat was Guys burger joint and ice cream. The ship and my room had a horrible smell like a septic tank. I was not given a bootle to open on the last nighth of the cruise the bar tenders were rude. The stateroom steward was awesome. The ride going was rocky and the entire boat was sick. No storms so I was confused why it was that bad. Icalled to report all my issues to carvial, I was told they would research and call me back based on this site everyone was complaining so unsure what you need to research. I havent heard from them yet.I read this was training ship no wonder it was horrible. I would never go on Ecstasy again!!!!!!!!!!! Read Less

Our aunt planned a family birthday getaway that comprised of about 15 people and 7 cabins. Leading up to the trip the application and booking was seamless. However, the vacation was everything but seamless. I guess that because they had my money already. This was our first time sailing Royal Caribbean, but we cruise often on other cruise lines. Let me say Royal Caribbean spared no expenses when it comes to decor, features, and amenities. Please be advised though all of the features such as the escape room and wave runner are an extra charge. The boat also offers about 3 restaurants that are an extra charge. The food was absolutely terrible as well as the service and entertainment. The ship was supposed to stop in coco cay, but that didn't happen due to supposedly choppy waves so the ship couldn't tender people to the private island, which is currently under construct. When we went to customer service to Express our dissatisfaction they advised us to contact their customer sevice department, so for a 2 day cruise we were forced to have a sea day. About at 8 PM of the now sea day I'm still on my balcony wondering why the boat is so rocky and it seem like we were racing through the ocean. About 20 minutes later the captain comes over the pa and announces that we have to go back to Miami for an emergency stop to let someone off. Due to the speed and turbulence of the boat I became extremely sick. So much for a 2 day cruise, which I was in Miami for everyday single day of it.. The staff tried to accommodate guest with weak entertainment and extra activities, however that wasn't worth the money. For a first experience on Royal Caribbean I was truly dissatisfied. Upon returning home I called customer service as advise to Express my concerns for the vacation. I was hung up on 3 times by customer service representatives. The 3rd time I wouldn't even Express my issues and asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor was unhelpful and had terrible customer service skills. It was very frustrating for the boat staff to advise us to contact customer care then customer care give us the run around saying we should have addressed our concerns on the boat. No one took accountability! Needless to say I wouldn't advise Royal Caribbean. Read Less

My first cruise and my last. Didn’t help we didn’t even go to the Bahamas but we understood for safety reasons. Guest relations team didn’t help with WiFi issue once purchased. No reimbursement for WiFi we didn’t even use. Went to spa for a free pamper party but it was cancelled at the time we showed up. I injured myself on dance floor which was no ones fault but we called front desk to provide a ice pack and they didn’t come to our room until we called multiple times. Food was sub par. Long lines everywhere since we never left ship. My last cruise ever, horrible experience overall. We called to get a discount on another cruise since this one was so lousy and they said no a verbal apology is just fine?! Never take this cruise line. Wish I had a better experience. My cousin and I will never set sail again on this cruise Read Less

We are avid Disney Cruisers but thought a 2-night cruise would be great for my husband and I; it was not! After stepping foot on the ship, we noticed right away the smell of old smoke from the Casino area. If that wasn't bad enough, the fragrance they tried to mask it with make us nauseous. Deck 5 where ALL the shops and bars are was so hard to walk around, in the jewelry store, the associate followed us around like they do in furniture stores! We found that most of the crew members were not friendly or helpful. The waitstaff at the main dining room got upset that we didn't take their suggested choices at dinner time. Every where we went the first day, people were all trying to sell us something, drink package, internet package, specialty dining, etc. Our room was on Deck 9 and when we would turn to walk to our room all we could smell was sewage coming from the rooms. Our room had a musty smell to it as well. On Saturday night, we had to make a run back to Miami for a sick passenger to get off and all my husband and I wanted to do was get off with them! We will never again sail another cruise line but Disney. Read Less

Would never recommend to anyone to take this cruise. The ship is clean, but worn. The rooms are fine for a quick three day cruise. The staff was friendly and kept things cleaned and replenished. They only do room service once a day, but for a short trip that was ok. We opted for mornings. The food was mediocre. They didn’t change the buffet offerings. They did have a Mandorin, pizza, bbq and burger station, but with the exception of the pizza station (another story), they closed at 5-6pm for the evening. Then your only food option was the buffet or dining hall. All day you could get pizza, however it was small 10” personal pizzas made in small quantities, and cut in half. Kind of made to order, but really slow, and had long lines. Their drinks are expensive, and they add a gratuity to each drink. Depending on your drinking habits the package CHEERS, maybe a better deal. We didn’t purchase but we’re way under had we purchased. They make both people in a room buy it, and if one doesn’t drink, you’re screwed. Embarking went well, and organized, however disembarking has a lot of room for improvement. They made provisions for wheeled chair people, but people with canes were pretty much on their own. We finally asked because two members of our party couldn’t walk the distance and a staff person cut us in line. There were lots of groups, wedding parties, bachelor groups, and mostly was an under 40 crowd. They do have an adult only area which we discovered on the day of the Bahamas, so we stayed on ship and enjoyed the area. They have a huge bottled water in your room and charge $3:95 to use it. That’s pathetic. Bottled water is so cheap, they should be giving them to each room. The band Blue Wave was very good. They are almost too talented for this ship, they were very entertaining. The first day out to sea they had dancing on the pool deck, they shot off streamers which went up and into the ocean. I was pretty appalled by that. That is an unnecessary activity. Personally this is one of the worst cruises I’ve ever been on. It was just a three day get away, but next time I will go on another line. Read Less

I ate soft ice cream with a fork, got served a warm coke with 4 ice cubes, I had a flat iron steak that was as tough and tasted like a boot sole, the service was atrocious and I waited well over an hour in the dinning room for pasta which tasted like it was prepared 2 weeks earlier from a can. Bars: they close early so there's no way to get 15 drinks from you Cheers Package, there's not enough time in the day. You have an 18% gratuity included but if you don't tip, they aren't coming back. The Casino Bar stays open late but it's tiny and the only bar open so it takes even longer to get a drink. Shows: I'm not big on shows but most people we talked to liked them generally. Princess Cays, Nice, beautiful, same crew as the ship so service was bad and we had to pay for all drinks and tips and the lunch was long line and dry hamburger (1). Ship: Nice weather and smooth till we headed home and with a 60 mph wind we go tossed around. Boarding and Debarkation was fairly easy. Bottom line up front: This ship is falling apart at the seams, everything stinks (staterooms, bathrooms, common areas, decks and interior spaces). Everything is designed to frustrate you to the point of spending more in convenience upgrades. The food is marginal (hit and miss), entertainment was pathetically bad. Pier check-in at Baltimore was bizarre; like it was the first time a cruise ship had ever docked to pickup passengers(!?). Staff were confused, lines were created and collapsed at random, people were visibly upset throughout the process. Unbelievable waste of money. Upselling everything, everywhere, all the time. Bait and switch tactics; everything is made to be inconvenient to pressure you into spending more money (don’t like the crappy food, pay for better; don’t like the lack of seating in the buffet, pay for better; don’t like having to go to the 9th deck for crappy ice-cream, here’s Ben & Jerrys in the best location for $3 a scoop!) Room service costs extra for hot breakfast but not continental. Understand what I am saying, they would bring you a cold breakfast for free but charge a $8.95 ‘delivery fee’ for your similarly free hot breakfast. Ship is designed to be inconvenient and pressure more sales. It’s like living in a 3D infomercial. The only way to get from one end of the ship to the other was either through the topside deck (with the smokers; more on that later), through the shops/photo sellers or through the casino. We found ourselves holding our breath and making the run across the cold and wet deck to get from the buffet to the auditorium. There are only 40 interior padded lounge chairs in the adults only section of the deck (for the 1850 passengers!), so you can forget lounging or lying down anywhere outside of your room. The outside pool was only open for 3 days of our 9 day cruise, so the 18+ ‘quiet’ rooms was opened up for kids as well. There are 6 hot tubs (4 outside in the cold/rain); so you can hold about 36 people at a time total (again, for the 1850 passengers!) So you can forget about that as well. The ship is falling apart everywhere. They had to continuously reschedule the shows due to mechanical issues with the stage / rigging / electronics. One night they gave up and just have the house band play some terrible jazz for 40 minutes. The comics were terrible and the two ‘shows’ were sub-high school drama class level. The whole ship stinks badly; the main areas, the bathrooms and the staterooms. Everywhere the ship was falling apart. The interior of the central areas were covered in leaks when it rained. Cigarette and Cigar smoke is everywhere. You smell it as soon as you enter the ship and it wafts throughout the halls and main spaces of the ship. They allow smoking in the casino (which is of course located in the most central and open part of the ship. All outside areas are also smoking areas (although it seemed like people would smoke everywhere). The stink is in the carpet and the furniture. Ports of call were OK, but transportation to and from the port was too expensive and difficult. In Charleston there was a simple bus but $20 per person for a shuttle from the pier to Ron Jons is entirely too expensive. I’m sure the Ron Jon’s kickbacks pay for the bus; this was just petty. The pier in Freeport is in an industrial wasteland with oil refinery sink and black smog. Freeport bus tour included stops at a free nature reserve and tourist trap where they make the junk they are selling. This should have cost half of what it did ($59 each) and been a whole day tour with a much longer stay at the beach. They first shuttle from the beach left 15 mins after we arrived. In Nassau, Pearl Island was beautiful for the 3 hours we were there. They didn’t have a full day option and the cost too much for what it was (chicken and rice buffet and a boat ride for $109 each; $4 for a bottle of water or a can of coke). The food was really hit and miss. The main dining hall was virtually empty for the 8pm dining experience; do you know why… because most people don’t eat supper at 8pm (which is really 8:45 before your main course arrives). Also, you will miss half of the evening activities because it will take them about 90 mins to feed you. Most will just opt for the buffet. Good luck getting a seat at the buffet; they seat about 200 and there are 1850 passengers. If you don’t lineup of arrive within the first 10 minutes you will be standing to eat or eating outside with the smokers. Also, the show times were at 7pm and 9pm with the earlier show designated for the later dining crowd. This was not enforced in any way so the early shows where standing room only with the late diners not being able to catch the second show. They would doo just about anything to ensure that you didn't;’t actually get any of the service or food that you paid for. I was extremely disappointed in this trip and I would not recommend it to anyone. Read Less

This was a surprise trip for my husband and was a Christmas Gift. Our 15th wedding anniversary trip and VERY first cruise and trip without our child. Was supposed to be a romantic / rekindling vacation. Turned out to be a complete nightmare and worst trip we have ever been on. Really really long story short, our flight ended up getting canceled and neither parties were able to rebook us a flight to get to Miami before ship left. Flight got cancelled at 5am but still no one could accommodate us in time to get to Miami. Ridiculous! I called NCL 3 different times to ask what our options were. Option 1, cancel the cruise and only get back port fees and taxes, or option 2, which was pick up ship in Key West. Was told this by 3 different NCL employees. Fine. Spent 2 hours getting flights to Key West, $755 one way from Chicago. Fine. Called NCL back to let them know we'd be getting on the ship in Key West. Employee stated we couldn't get on in Key West. I lost my mind after I just got told by 3 NCL people that we could. She puts me on hold and comes back to say that we can get on in Key West. OK Fine. My husband and I were at the airport about 8 hours before we actually left. About 40 minutes AFTER I booked flights to Key West, the last NCL employee called me back with a manager to NOW tell me that I will incure port fines in Key West for $762pp per the JONES ACT!!!! Why was i never informed this EVER?! And the NCL employees should have ABSOLUTELY said something BEFORE I booked the flight to Key West. I felt totally deceived and taken advantage of. If I would have know that this trip was going to cost me more than double of what I originally paid, I would have just cancelled the cruise before I left Chicago and called it a day. After this, it wasn't it. After hotel costs, ubers, etc. We finally get on ship the following day to be treated like complete crap by the staff because we were now DOWNLINERS! I understand it wasn't the cruise lines fault our flight got cancelled but their customer service was absolutely poor and rude. We have family that take cruise all the time and they have never heard of the Jones Act. Why is this not explained better when you book a cruise, especially when you book directly through the cruise line with their so called "experience agents". Not only this but we were supposed to stop in Great Stirrup Cay but could not, due to high waves. Oh great. Now you have 3000 people stuck on a ship. Everyone was trying to be by the pool area but it was so crowed. They had an entire top deck closed off where no one could sit, 2 hot tubs not working, and people laying on over the deck floors on their towels and we were having to step around. Absolutely terrible! There were lots of other details that were not good either but this review would be 10x as long. Then on the last day, because we were downliners, we had to meet the staff at 6am to be personally escorted off of the ship to customs. And once again, treated like garbage. I've tried to contact NCL several times. Sent a few emails and actually sent a letter to corporate. Glad to know that none of their staff cares about anything. Worst vacation ever, and for sure, no more cruises. Read Less
