We enjoyed Maho Beach and got some great photos with the low flying planes! But we had to keep ahold of my tote the whole time because beach vendors were constantly approaching. My husband stopped one from stealing the bag of a couple next to us as their attention was focused up towards the planes and their bag was sitting in the sand at their feet. I loved St Maarten. They have a water taxi that goes from near the ship's dock to down town ($7 round trip). You can shop down town and there's also a really nice public beach in the down town area. It was the perfect place to do both shopping and beaching in the same trip. The water taxi runs every 15 to 20 minutes. ...

If you like shopping--especially jewelry, this port has tons of shops. The shops are very close by even though taxi drivers tell you it takes 20 minutes. It actually takes maybe 10 minutes with a normal pace. You make a left and follow the sidewalk. The Boardwalk has plenty of shops. Clean and seems relatively safe. There's a small beach parallel to the shops, too. ...
