I chose this cruise to visit the ports (Cartagena, Malaga, Cadiz in Spain and Lisbon and Funchal in Portugal). Unfortunately due to weather and a pilot boat strike in Portugal the only port I visited was Malaga. We then went to the Canary Islands as a contingency plan for two ports (one was five hours long and the other was 12 hours). These ports were not interesting to me.
The ship itself was ...
We just returned from a 26-day TA from Athens to Fort Lauderdale; actually a 12-day Mediterranean to Barcelona and a 14-day transatlantic crossing to FL. HAL sold it as a single 26-day cruise but the second 14-day leg was much cheaper so many got on in Barcelona for TA. Unfortunately the weather prompted the captain to cancel Cadiz and Portugal. We had also lost 2 ports on the 12day segment but, ...
We chose this cruise for the itinerary, especially Iceland and Greenland and because we have had 3 very good cruises with HAL in the past. There were many good features. Most of the ship has been beautifully refurbished, the food was good, staff very helpful and it seems a happy ship. Great itinerary, Iceland was brilliant, sunny and fantastic scenery. The sun really does shine at midnight in the ...
We were on this boat and the main reasons were to visit greenland and island. At first the good: the food we compare with celebrity and princess, hal is a little bit better. The speciality restaurants are not much better. The service in the pinnacle grill is arrogant and the maitre too and not friendly. The food was OK , there is the murano celebrity much better. Very good was the fitness trainer ...
We have sailed 7 times on HAL and have always enjoyed the cruises. This was the first HAL cruise that did not meet our expectations. While the service and crew members were outstanding as usual, our main complaint was the quality of the food and the food selections in the MDR. Many times at dinner in the MDR our server did not ask if we wanted a drink or wine with dinner and rarely were we asked ...
This was a 14 day trans-atlantic from Ft Lauderdale to Rome with 4 ports: two in the Azores and two in Spain. I've done over 50 cruises and about 10 were on HAL. I've always liked HAL's vibe - which is to appeal to seasoned travelers who appreciate discovering new places. I like days at sea and purposely picked this smaller, older ship after being on the Nieuw Statendam last summer (whose ...
We have sailed on many Holland American cruises and always had a wonderful experience. We just got off a 21 day transatlantic from Fort Lauderdale to Rome. The ship was beautiful and the food amazing. The entertainment was super until we reached Barcelona at which time the band in the Ocean Bar disappeared and was never to be seen again.
On every other cruise we have taken, when there was a ...
We booked this cruise pre-covid intending to visit the D-day beaches, Paris and Amsterdam. The Pandemic caused changes no one could predict. We ended up booked on this cruise, completely different than the one we booked.
We have sailed over 30 times on many Cruise Lines and were looking forward to sailing with Holland America on Rotterdam, their newest ship. Embarkation in Port Everglades ...
We have been loyal to Holland America for their great service and food. The Rotterdam is a beautiful ship, but doesn’t have the coziness of the smaller ships. The Ocean Bar is bigger in size, with a horrible wall in between the 2 sections, extremely uncomfortable sitting, with sofas that you will never hear a decent conversation because the distance between the sofa and the chairs.
Other than ...
Our third HA cruise, and probably the last.
Entertainment during the day was non existant. Main Stage acts were poor apart from female impressionist.
The smell of smoking in the Casino and deck 9 was overpowering. This is now a deal breaker for us.
Lido buffet food was cold and laid out all over the place. The meat on offer was very poor quality. Dining room was an unmitigated disaster, ...
