Great times on Westerdam to Alaska

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Westerdam

We chose HAL because we love this cruise line and this was our first time on Ms Westerdam to Alaska and we were not disappointed. The Westerdam had some slight wear but we experienced no major issues on our cruise. We did encounter some noticeable vibration in the MDR and some slight swaying in our room (that we did not experience on the larger Oosterdam ship) but contributed it to a smaller ...

Alaska is amazing

We had a wonderful time on this cruise. We had a balcony room on the 7th deck. Our room was nice with lots of storage. The room and dining staff were amazing. I live in the Seattle area and am used to seeing beautiful trees and large mountains, but Alaska is like home times 10. Truly a must-visit destination. Food in the dining room was very good (we only ate dinner there), and food on the ...

Bad Cabin, 4174

Had good luck with Holland in the past. We got cabin 4174, on the stern above the dining area. Leaving Seattle the noise in the cabin was deafening, a constant pounding, very loud. This created a vibration which shook anything in the room adding to the noise. This continued for three days. We could not sleep at all. After a call to customer service, they said they had no more rooms. After three ...

Holland America Westerdam; Overdue for Maintenance and Renovations

We were hoping that the Holland America Westerdam would be a step above the rest, but we didn't see that. No deal-breakers, but the lack of attention to detail was noticeable. I'll start with a few of the things I saw, and then share what stood out on the positive side. How long should it take to get a glass of water refilled in the sit-down dining hall ? I would propose that for a first ...

Great Week in Alaska on the Westerdam

My husband and I were looking for an interesting cruise for the summer and decided that Alaska would be just the right thing. We had been to Sitka and Juneau several years ago when he participated in a Russian music festival in Sitka. The Westerdam did go to Sitka, which was one reason we selected this cruise. Also we had sailed with the Noordam before and really liked this class of ship. We ...

First cruise - we picked Alaska :)

This was our first cruise, and trying to read ratings, reviews and make a decision on which cruise line to pick can be daunting. I read one reviewer that noted some of the poor reviews were from pretentious cruisers with expectations that were beyond reasonable. I witnessed that first hand more than once. We cruised on the Westerdam from Seattle to Alaska. We had a balcony, which is a must when ...

Great for all ages

We had a fantastic time! This was a multigenerational trip, and there was something for everyone. Our room was of course small, and there were a few little issues with shower drainage, but everything was clean and in good condition. Any problems we brought to the staff were fixed. They even managed to get us an extension cord for my husband's CPAP - which, by the way, apparently you are ...

Great Time on Westerdam

We wanted to sail to Alaska from Seattle and found a great deal on this cruise on Costco travel. We spent three days in Seattle and really enjoyed this city, although the Pikes Market area is very busy, even during the week. Holland America has embarkation down to a science. We were on the ship and able to get into our cabin by 1:00! We were in Cabin 8136 which is an aft cabin; this is the ...

Terrible, Unhealthy Food, BAD for Those with Allergies

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Westerdam

My main complaints for the Holland America Westerdam to Alaska were: The food was awful and TERRIBLE for anyone who wants to eat healthily or who has food allergies. All the veggies had butter on them (you should use olive oil). The salad and pasta bar were cross-contaminated with cheese - little bits of cheese or dairy were in many items, making it impossible for anyone with dairy allergy. ...
