Fred Olsen Balmoral – Xmas/New Year 2018/19 – Canaries
All in all, this was a most enjoyable cruise and a great way to spend both the festive season and celebrate my husband’s birthday on Christmas Eve.
This was our first time with “Fred”, although we’ve cruised a lot since getting the bug a decade ago. Compared with other lines, we were delighted that there was no constant hard sell, ship ...
This was our first Fred Olsen cruise having previously sailed with Royal Caribbean and P&O. Not long after booking we got a call offering us a tour of the ship, I asked the lady to call back the next day as I needed to discuss with the wife. No call back. Later we had a recorded message telling us that our dining room had been changed with no reason/explanation given. When we went to check in they ...
Chose this cruise for a last bit of sun before the winter. We had previously been on the Braemar and really liked the fact that it is a small ship with an intimate feel. It was incredibly good value and I wanted to work with the fitness instructor, Pat who is the best yoga teacher I have encountered again.
Having now been on the Boudicca as well, the layout of the Braemar works far better. ...
we have travelled on the fred olsen ship Balmoral over 10 times and we joined her again in October 2018 in Southampton for our yearly cruise to the Canaries.
As soon as you step on the Balmoral 's carpet you feel as if someone has put their arm around you and says come on in we will give you a really good time. The weather on this cruise was not good but the crew always did their best to ...
This was the first time on this ship having sailed previously many time on Breamar and Black Watch.
My wife has limited mobility and we did not find the ship user friendly.b
The steps onto the external deck are steep and the ramp placed over part of them is too steep.

We booked this very short cruise at exceptionally short notice (book Monday sail Saturday.) We were accommodated in a suite on Deck 9. During the booking procedure I made it clear that we wished to dine at 8-30 pm but were later told that we must eat at 6-30 pm. It took very many telephone calls to unravel that situation but having paid an extra £12 we were granted our wish.
We have sailed in ...
We choose this cruise to experience Rio Carnival and get away from UK winter, overall we were pleased that we did.
Ship - public rooms and spaces were attractive and well kept.
Dinning- we ate in the Ballindoch dinning room, late sitting, the service was excellent and the food was good quality, and wide variety offered. We tried the Poolside grill twice and both times the menus were ...
For a winter break but never again.
Four days in I contracted noro virus. Medical centre nurse attended and told me not to consume alcohol. No time scale given. However after being released from 21 hours isolation following last symptom I had not recovered enough to even think about consuming alcohol.
A male passenger soiled himself on deck 7 in a public area and staff rushed to clear up ...
On the first night a burst pipe on the tenth floor flooded our cabin on the ninth floor and the hallway carpets were soaked. Noisy machines to dry out carpets. Took 5 days.
At breakfast we were served cold tea and breakfast. Dirty breakfast plates. Complained to manager. Not enough seats for entertainment in the Neptune Lounge.
Probably due to wet carpets husbands pneumonia kicked in. 2 hour ...
