Our travel agent suggested Avalon to us. It was our first cruise as we had never had any interest in an ocean cruise. We stayed two nights in Zurich precruise and one night in Amsterdam at the end. We had the pre and post hotel rooms booked through Avalon. Transfers were included except the last one back to the airport in Amsterdam.

We chose this tour because Avalon Waterways waived the vaccine requirement in November 2023 and we wanted to cruise the Rhine for the first time. Sailing with Avalon definitely was the perfect experience. Making new friends during cocktail hour and dining with them provided us with the ultimate opportunity to learn from friends in other countries. This was a southbound Rhine cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. It was our first river cruise, chosen because it would be a new experience, but also because of the ports of call, which looked very interesting. The ship was great; very clean, cabins roomy, modern and to a high spec., excellent air conditioning.

It sounded like a great idea to Cruise the Rhine and we added 3 nights in Zurich to the end. Our room was excellent but the true stars were the staff. There was not one who didn’t go out of they’re way to provide us with a great experience. With only 168 guests we had a chance to meet just about all of them.
