Our travel agent suggested Avalon to us. It was our first cruise as we had never had any interest in an ocean cruise. We stayed two nights in Zurich precruise and one night in Amsterdam at the end. We had the pre and post hotel rooms booked through Avalon. Transfers were included except the last one back to the airport in Amsterdam.

We were booked at the Raddison Blue at Zurich airport and the Movenpick in Amsterdam. I will do separate reviews for the hotels.

The cruise was wonderful from start to finish. The crew were so pleasant and helpful, we were really spoiled. The port of calls had good tour guides and we liked that there were choices. Gentle walkers, active and the bike riders etc. My favourite stops were Rudenshein and Cologne. Going through the Rhine Gorge was another surreal experience. It was warm and sunny for most of the afternoon so we were on the top deck. It was the high light of our trip.

Cabin Review

Panorama Suite with French Balcony

It had the large panorama window which was sometimes blocked by other ships at dock. We still enjoyed it while cruising and at night. It was great to see the shining lights when passing through towns along the way. There was so much space for storage, lots of clothes hangers and nice amenities. The bedding and mattress was very comfortable. Fresh water daily and room tidied twice a day. We liked this room as we were close to the lounge and dining room.
