ACL Queen of the West on Columbia River

Review for a North America River Cruise on American West (formerly Queen of the West)

This was the last cruise of the season, Portland R/T, with only the western half of the Columbia River. The weather was OK, often cloudy & rainy, some sun, but to be expected in mid-October in Oregon. The tours/guides were excellent, altho we wished for more time at Mt St Helens and some of the Lewis & Clark sites. The ship was charmingly decorated in traditional paddlewheel style. The ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary--that is the Hudson, NYC, Hyde Park, fall foliage Very well organized; ship staff wonderful; small passenger size was important; ample time to connect with friends. We did do the NYC pre-cruise tour; it covered the hi points including One World Trade Center w/well informed guide. Cabin was small, but that size was expected; chose the veranda room and ...

First time on ACL. Wanted to see this part of U.S. Liked small ship atmosphere. 144 passengers. Pre-cruise hotel: Need different place ;-( Embarkation/Debarkation smooth. Ship clean, well maintained; cabin spotless, room for everything, furnishings could use a bit of updating; add amenities such as small in-room safe, charging strip/plugs for electronics, as ship is 5 yrs old and in ...

Fall Cruise to Maine - with Lobster as a Side

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Independence (formerly Independence)

This was a 2nd cruise with American and while it was not quite as enjoyable as cruising the Chesapeake Bay on the brand new Constellation, it was still worth the cost. Our trip was a "Lobster" cruise and Lobster it was. Lobster was available on every menu and it was real Maine Lobster. If you ever want to see how much lobster you can eat in a week this is the cruise for you. While the Independence ...

Hells Canyon side tour was excellent

Set this up so that we could visit Idaho for the total eclipse two days after the cruise docked. Informative history lectures about Lewis and Clark and the area were great. Meals could have offered a little more variety but were timely, well prepared and presented well. Staff and captain were excellent and very friendly. I was not concerned about poor cell service, this was a vacation and I ...

The food was wonderful, but the ship needs renovating.

We chose this cruise because of the number of guests. We have been on large ships before and wanted a change. This was absolutely great,so personable and the comradery worked well. We met lots of nice people and also had a celebrity onboard(which says a lot for the cruise line). The personal service was a plus, since it was easy to get to know the crew and they were excellent. The hotel manager was ...

Great lobster feast cruise

We wanted to see the Islands of Nantucket and Martha's vineyard, and it was a lobster bake cruise. The food was amazing, with an authentic lobster bake in the sand. This was my first cruise, and I enjoyed getting to know all of the 91 passengers. The small boat cruising is the only way to go. My husband and I have booked another small boat cruise to Alaska for next August. That will be on a ...

Cabin was small & disappointing

We selected theLewis & Clark itinerary. Overall we were pleased but size & lack of decor in cabin was disappointing. Very small single closet for 2 people. No place to store suitcases Only 3 drawers. Balcony is small & has 2 cheap chairs & 1 small table. This is an expensive cruise & since we only drink 1-2 glasses of wine per day the included free drinks was not necessary. The staff & food was ...

Have become river cruise travelers (our other river cruises were in France with UniWorld) & wanted something in a part of the U.S. that was unfamiliar. This trip met that criteria. We did not arrive at the departure destination in time to do anything there; however, the overnight hotel was good--only problem was having no phone number handy in order to get there shuttle to the airport. Somehow ...

We chose this trip to experiment with river cruising, great option for us. Saw the westward travel of pioneers with great appreciation of the difficulty involved. Cabin and staff great, good variety offered at meals. On board activities limited to lectures about Louis and Clark, solo or duet entertainment at night. Fitness was machines on top deck. Felt too much time spent on lower Columbia ...
