After sailing on Royal Caribbean and Princess several times, we wanted something different and the Westerdam had the itinerary that we wanted.
The ship is nice. Some area's a bit dated but overall acceptable. We had a suite which was large, but nothing more special than more room and a large balcony.
We chose anytime dining which will probably be the last time. The service was slow and waiters ...
We just returned from the January 6th Southern Caribbean cruise and had a well deserved restful cruise on the Westerdam. This was our 24th overall cruise and our 3rd HAL trip, the first 2 on the Maasdam. We are 62 and 57 which fit well in the demographic.
We arrived a day early and stayed in the Hilton Beach Resort. Most of the bill was paid for with points. It was very nice but not worth the ...
We had always heard nothing but great things about Holland; less children, elegant ships, no loud music, and the kicker, Great, above board service. This is not what we found. The first thing we encountered was an hour long embarkation. There were 4 metal detectors in the entrance area and only 1 in use, hence the long wait. On our last cruise, we went straight through.
Next, we heard of ...
What a wonderful cruise. The staff on the Westerdam were great. There were plenty of shore excursions for those seeking activities and plenty of places to relax on the ship for those seeking relaxation. I was concerned because our assigned cabin was at the rear of the ship and I can get queasy with the motion of the ocean. Other than the first afternoon at sea when I spent too much time laying ...
Oh Westerdam, oh Westerdam.....how do I begin? I was really hoping for more, only to be slightly fooled.
Let me start by saying, we are a family in our late 30's and mid 40's with a child in elementary school. We are all seasoned cruisers, this being our 12th cruise and our child's 5th. Having sailed mainly Royal Caribbean and Celebrity and Carnival, we were looking for something different ...
This is a review of the Holland America Westerdam. We sailed on a seven-night Southern Caribbean voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas; Aruba, and Curacao with three days at sea. Dates: April 1-8, 2012. We had received a $100 onboard credit for being Carnival stockholders.
The captain was Peter "PJ" van Maurik, who joined Holland America in 1994. Cruise director was Jason ...
Our cruise was wonderful! This was our first time on HAL. The first thing to mention is the food. We've been on other lines, but so far Holland America wins, hands down on the food. The selection, the quantity, the quality of the food was superb. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but overall, it was stunning. We felt like we were eating at a five star establishment every single ...
We got a direct flight from Cincinatti to the airport and from there only a fifteen minute taxi to the ship. The first thing we noticed was how friendly and sweet the crew were. I've been on six other cruises with Princess Royal Carribean and Carnival and this was the best crew yet. I saw several people being rude and ordering them around like slaves and they responded withcurtesy and kindness. ...
Embarkation presented smooth sailing. Checking in around 12:30, the entire process could not have lasted more than 20 minutes. The smiling faces of HAL's ground crew set a nice tone for our introduction to the Westerdam. We went directly to our room with no waiting required and our bags showed up within the hour or two. Definitely the smoothest embarkation process I have experienced on my six ...
We can only compare our experience to our two previous cruises with Princess. Two yr. ago, we went to the E. Caribbean on the Emerald Princess. Last yr. we went to W. Caribbean on Crown Princess, and this year--to try something different--we went on the Westerdam--S. Caribbean.
We loved the Emerald Princess. The range of activities and age range of passengers was perfect for us.
We are ...
