Ehhh So-So

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Viking Star

We had been on a Viking river cruise and enjoyed it so decided to try their ocean cruises. I've been on seven cruises now and would say the Viking ocean experience is only so-so (except for the food which was really quite good). No better than any of the other four lines we've been on really. Talked with other passengers who felt the same. The wine-by-the-glass choices were mediocre, the ...

Disappointing ship

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Viking Star

We wanted to try another 5.5 - -6 star line so we chose this one. The dates and going through the Canal were good for us. The ship is pretty, the cabin was great. The cabin steward was friendly and very helpful. He kept the mini bar filled with the beverages we wanted. The service was poor, we had to wait 30 minutes one night to even get water. The wait staff was working hard, but ...

Not as expected

Having heard rave reviews about Viking plus the itinerary, I chose this particular cruise especially because of the Panama Canal passage. The care that was taken because of Covid was exceptional. Spit tests daily, masks everywhere, sanitizers etc. made me feel quite safe. The crew was very attentive to all needs. Our veranda room was pleasant and well thought out but a little tight and we are ...

First Cruise and last - disappointing excursions and customer service from shore excursions desk

This was the 3rd of three back to back solo cruises; Crystal and Celebrity were the others. I had wanted to go on Viking cruise since going to a travel convention and seeing the features of Viking. Overall first impressions were embarkment and on ship within 5 minutes and then the room was very spacious plenty of room and storage and love the coffee machine and amenities. The ship looked like ...

Not quite the Viking we know and love!

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Viking Star

We are not that experienced as Viking cruisers, having spent more time sailing with Seabourn and Silversea. We did, however, spend four weeks on the Viking Sun crossing the Pacific last year and thoroughly enjoyed the Viking experience, so we decided to try them again. Sadly, the Star did not come close to our experience on the Sun and I explain why below. Of course, our trans-Pacific cruise was ...

Disappointing

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

We liked the ship, the Star, very much -- size, etc. We had a suite and it was great -- large and very comfortable. We were very disappointed with the food and the service. The food was just average -- like a Princess or Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Certainly nothing special. The service in the restaurants and buffet was very spotty -- sometimes good but sometimes very lax. The staff seemed ...

We chose this cruise because we had heard such wonderful things about Viking River cruises. The timeframe and itinerary fit our needs. Our expectations were of luxury and perfection. Pros: The ship was beautiful and well maintained. The staff was so friendly. We were in Explorer Suite 3095. We have been on other high end cruises, also in suites. The suite was the largest one we had been ...

Great Ship but Cuba Ports are horrible

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Viking Star

We chose this cruise due to the high Viking reviews. The Star ship was a great ship, but the ports in Cienfuegos and Santiago De Cuba are horrible. We took a private tour to Havana, and Havana is a great city, but it was a 3 hour plus drive. We would recommend you finding a cruise ship that ported in Havana before choosing the Cultural Cuba Itinerary. What we loved about the ship ...

Nice ship but the ports are poor

We are currently on the cultural Cuba cruise, and I would not advise anyone to take any cruise to Cuba unless you can be in Havana for 3 days. The Cienfuegos and Santiago ports are very lame. Havana was fantastic but the drive is over 6 hours on very poor roads. We will try to plan another trip to Havana only in the future. The ship is beautiful, but seems to shake more in the ocean than other ...
