Chose this cruise to see fall colors, especially in Quebec but due global warming previous fall temperatures had been too high for tree color to develop. We were disappointed that color change was delayed but we were not disappointed in our experience on Viking. We had wonderful service, superb food and a well-run Cruise. We especially enjoyed our three evenings at the The Chef’s Table with three different internal menus along with wine pairings. We did no purchase the premium spirits package and thus received the house selections of wine but they were all superb and nicely paired with each course. We also enjoyed lovely meals in the Restaurant and were able to request to be seated in our favorite waiter’s section. We enjoyed the classical trio from Serbia, made up of violin, cello and flute. The port enrichment talks were extremely helpful and we never missed the ship historians’ talks. We even attended a delightfully entertaining cooking class presentation by the ship’s head chef. He should have his own TV show on the Food Channel! Read Less

I picked this cruise because of the itinerary - the opportunity to visit a range of fabulous cities and fjord towns - on what was billed as a new, stylish and not too large cruise liner. I was not disappointed. The ship is the style of the show - like living for a fortnight in a 'boutique museum', a mix of the modern scandi and a wealth of historical detail. It had all the facilities you might need and all of a high quality, designed with function and beauty in mind. Cabins were well designed, comfortable and attractive and well maintained by the friendliest room service you could wish for. Similarly, the dining facilities and food were of a high quality, from the homely Mamsens with its jam and waffles to the highly innovative, taste bud tingling Chef's Table. And make sure you have a cocktail in the Explorer's Lounge whilst passing through the Stockholm archipelago, the fjords or whilst watching the sun go down - a recipe for a magical moment. The pool areas were attractive and well maintained and swimming in the infinity pool in sunshine in St Petersburg was one of the unexpected highlights of the journey. A free trip was included at each port - I only paid for extras in St Petersburg (Gold Room and Hermitage - well worth doing), the ballet in St Petersburg and the jazz cruise in Copenhagen (pricey but a wonderful evening out). After feeling very herded on the Helsinki trip (lots of ships in port and the city felt under strain) we decided to do most of the other ports on our own which enabled us to miss the groups and investigate things of particular interest to us. We did, however, participate in the free trip in Warnemunde (alternative to Berlin) and this turned out to be a lovely day with a brewery visit (beer at 9.30am!!), guided tour of an incredible cathedral and a boat trip with fabulous views - a surprising gem of a day and all included! The following 'extras' were lovely bonuses: the quality of the lectures delivered by the guest lecturers that were informative and helped you to build knowledge as your trip progressed; the music everywhere on the ship - of a high quality but not too loud or obtrusive; the laundrette (not exciting but making packing and dressing much easier!); the fabulous spa facility - no need to pay a penny to fully immerse yourself in the Nordic spa system and the facility is usually nearly empty; the shuttle bus service at all larger ports (if you're the sort of person who doesn't like large, herded groups then this is the service for you - free transport to the heart of your port, a good map with a note of pick up point and you're set up for a great day!). This is not a family cruise ship, it is not an all singing all dancing entertainment ship, it is not a dressing up and having your photo taken at every opportunity ship. Instead it is a relaxing, informative, safe environment from which to explore a fabulous range of ports in a style that suits you. My only gripe - there was only a minimal reduction on double occupancy rates for a single traveller! A better deal would be the icing on the cake! Read Less

Royal Caribbean was so disappointing this time around. The staff did not seem sympathetic to our plight of lost luggage, and assured us that we would be able to shop for clothes on our excursions. We were not able to shop for any essentials on our excursions as we only went to souvenir shops. I suggested that Royal help us find a way to get to shopping and they did not. All they were able to give us for the five days that we had no luggage was a white t-shirt and sub very sub-par toiletries. They offered us laundry service, but the guest services desk lady must have not been very in touch with what was happening because when I asked how long our laundry would take to get to us she said "48 hours." Luckily, housekeeping was a bit more realistic and when we discussed it with them, they were able to turn our laundry around in a couple of hours. For formal night, she offered to give my husband a free tuxedo, but offered nothing to me. The lady at the front desk (Jasmine) told us she would locate our luggage, and then told us she couldn't locate it. When I asked her who she called, she told me SAS. To that I told her that we had a transfer from United to SAS and our luggage was most likely with United. She asked ME if I wanted to call United myself! My husband firmly recommended that she do it herself. Later that day, she told us she was able to locate it with United. So that caused an unseemly delay in getting our luggage because of her ineptitude. I came crying to the front office after four days of no luggage , no makeup and no toiletries and she offered me 100 dollars credit to my account (any outfit on the ship cost no less than 54 dollars each) and a night at one of their restaurants in her words "out of my own goodwill towards you." I was aghast at the lack of sympathy. She later told me our luggage would be waiting for us in Estonia on the morning before our excursion. To my dismay, we did not get our luggage as promised in the morning but at night. The ladies in the spa, were very gossipy and rude, even talking about guests behind their backs. The people working in the Windjammer never smiled or offered any table service. The whole crew (aside from a few people in housekeeping and in various bars) were amazingly lacking in customer service. After this trip, I will never want to board a Royal Caribbean trip again!
