We had traveled with Scenic once before. It was a delightful and memorable experience. We were entertained, wined and dined to our hearts' delight. What more could anybody ask for? The crew was capable, informed and personable. The food was exquisite and varied and the wines paired with the food very well. The breads, desserts and pastries were baked on the ship so were as fresh as possible and extremely tasty. Scenic takes great pride (justifiably) in acquiring local foods and giving the guests a taste of the area of the world where they are visiting. The excursions were geared to guests who had varied interests and physical capabilities. They informed and educated the guests of the history, culture and modern life of the area visited. All the guides are from the area so have an in depth knowledge of the land. Scenic offers a complete experience with no added charges unless you purchase something on board. That appeals to us. There are no surprise bills to sting at the end of the tour. Read Less

The cruise and staff overall were great with efficient transfers and well organised tours. The staff did their best to provide support and information when necessary. The supply of special dietary need could have been better organised and there was significant waiting for special types of food, which sometimes never turned up. The cabin was well positioned, spacious and well maintained throughout. The Scenic coaches for the daily excursions from the ship were comfortable and provided WiFi and USB points for charging. They were driven safely and with the passengers in mind. The negative point was that if the coaches had hydraulics to aid boarding and departing they were not used to lower the step's height from the road. The stepping up and down from the bottom step at the back and front doors were significantly high making it difficult to get in and out of the coaches. At the end of the 14 day cruise/tour, both knees were inflamed and swollen from the strain and is still present 2 weeks after cruise and gradually improving. Sometimes the bar staff/waiters got the cocktails wrong and often long wait for service. The stops were well organised and the Scenic coach followed us by road to ensure a smooth tour. The stops were mainly to visit port/wine producing villages or Quintas. The highlight was the visit to Salamanca in Spain, which was achieved by coach from Vega de Terron. Salamanca was vibrant and busy with other tourists. The tour included a tour of the Cathedral and the square. Lunch was provided at a beautiful restaurant in the square and as well as excellent food and wine we were treated to a traditional all female trio of Spanish flamenco dancing. Read Less

I had no expectation of the cruise before departure. Embarkation and disembarkation were very well processed. The entire cruise went like clock-work. The ship was very clean and cabins, restaurants, lounge are well configured. The cabin was meticulously set out. There was nothing that was missing. All facilities were catered for. Dining areas were well equipped and dining staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Service provided was excellent and professional. Entertainment was pleasant and activities were well organised and sufficient given the timeframe. Excursions were interesting and the organisation of all excursions were well carried out with no fuss. All tour guides had a lot of knowledge on the places of interest and spoke very well. They were also very caring of elderly passengers and ensured groups were together at all times during the tours. My whole experience of the cruise will be remembered forever! The entire crew members made my trip very enjoyable, relaxing and memorable. I look forward to future cruises with Scenic. Read Less

We have cruised with Scenic Tours before and they have always paid a lot of attention to detail. Each shore excursion is planned out to the infinite detail, but if you want to do your own thing then that is fine as well. All the cabins are well appointed with the majority having their own balcony. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud. The room service is of a very high standard. Every member of the crew greet you and make you feel as if you were royalty. If something is not right it is fixed immediately. The meals are abundant leaving you with the need to expand your belt. Everyone is able to dine in the specialty restaurant on the cruise. The wines match the meal being served. But if you do not want wine there is the option of having another type of drink. This is not a cruise for children as there are no activities for children. Read Less

Previous experience during a cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam suggested that there was no point in choosing any other river cruise operator than Scenic. Our experience on the Duoro cruise confirmed that conclusion. There were differences. The often mountainous Duoro landscape has more in common with the fjords of Norway than the pretty 'castles on the Rhine' but that only adds to the interest of the quite different geography, history and culture of the region. Another important difference was that all the crew were Scenic employees who regarded themselves as part of a Scenic 'family', determined to do well for the company and themselves, by looking after us in every way they could. As on the previous cruise, the egalitarian Australian influence permeated the atmosphere, encouraging friendly interaction between people from many countries, social backgrounds and interests. Readers of this review may think that the writer is too generous with the high ratings recorded below for so many aspects of Scenic's performance. I can only insist that I am by nature, profession and long experience a stern analyst and critic.. However there is one aspect not specifically covered by those ratings. It is the profoundly kind and thoughtful way in which, from the beginning of the booking and travel process to the journey home, the Scenic team ashore and afloat helped my wife and I, both nearer ninety than eighty years old, enjoy the cruise to the maximum possible extent!
