Extremely unorganized boarding and embarking. We had a 10am boarding group but went and got drinks instead. There were other people that stood in line for 4-5 hours to get on the boat and people were getting yelled at by staff. Like everyone else said, the boat was way too busy. You cannot get reservations to any venue if you didn't do it right when you get on. You waiting in line to do anything ...
Disorganized crew. Restaurant maitre'd and serving staff did not know the menus. Bar staff did not know basic cocktail terms (neat, up, dry, etc). Food in MDR and buffet looked good, tasted blah (knives in buffet were so dull every time that I could cut neither an Eggs Benedict English muffin nor a carved slice of roast beef). That said, both the food and the service in the specialty restaurants ...
The Good
1) Room was clean (although gone are the days where the cabin stewards introduce themselves and leave towels folded like animals and chocolates on your pillows - this may be because Norwegian requires tips to stewards and all staff be paid prior to the cruise)
2) Ship was clean
3) Variety of food at the buffet was better than I remember on prior cruises, and staff was attentive ...
We had very high expectations for this cruise, but we were left disappointed, mainly from Norwegian. Alaska itself was AMAZING which is why we are giving 2 stars. This was our first time taking a Norwegian cruise because we typically take Carnival out of Galveston (we live in Texas). When we first booked our cruise the staff was not very helpful, our "agent" did not answer our calls and our ...
cost effectiveness
The Sun is an old ship, the room was adequate size, although the beds were old and we had to ask for additional padding for the mattress which helped some. During the night they turned the AC up, and the room became warm. It was warm all over the ship. the rooms have plenty of storage.
Verry poor food quality, and buffet line was also the passage walkway which caused ...
We are excited to do an Alaskan cruise, and got balcony cabins so we could see the view and enjoy the outdoors. Balcony was approximately 2’ x 6’. Yes the chairs had to be turned sideways to fit on the balcony. The now only have one room make up a day no turn down service. The Buffet for breakfast was literally the same thing for seven days as was the lunch and dinner. The specialty restaurants we ...
NORWEGIAN ENCORE
REVIEW
MAY 7 – 14 ALASKA
This review is from the perspective of a Canadian family with 2 teenage boys. This is my 4th cruise. I have cruised with Norwegian before on the Wind in May 2006, Royal Caribbean Visions of the Seas in March 2006 & Carnival Jubilee in about 1996.
My choice of this cruise was from a limited selection due to scheduling and restrictions for a ...
Just completed a 16 day NCL Spirit cruise. The ship retrofit was nice except for internet. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was not up to previous cruises. Mixed drinks are not made with name brand mixers which affected the taste.
Midway on the cruise I got headache, fever, cough, etc. Called the doctor office and was told the doctor visit was $149, plus meds $249. I went in for ...
My wife has Al's a dying. Choose this cruise because we have never seen Hawaii and Alaska. We are not rookies with NCL, we are diamond member with over 500 sea days with them.
It's sad to see all the cuts they made.
Your room. They now come once a day, not turning the cabin at night.
When boarding 2.30 to 3 pm to get in the cabin.
Little folded animals or chocolates on your pillow. ...
Think about the food this way: You will enjoy it if you liked what they served in your high school cafeteria! We did not enjoy the specialty restaurants either (we did Le Bistro and the “Brazilian Steakhouse”). The main dining room was only OK on a couple of nights. The Chin-Chin restaurant was horrible. Not a shrimp to be found on this ship. Smoked salmon? An extinct species. ...
