The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Review for a Caribbean - Eastern Cruise on Norwegian Gem

The departure from NYC was convenient and went well. Having sailed several times with Norwegian we were quickly disappointed with the cleanliness of the rooms. Cup rings and greasy spots on furniture and bad smelling old bedding. Not a good start coming out of a pandemic. The staff was professional but seemed to have a lack luster attitude. Rooms are no longer serviced for turn down since the ...

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Norwegian Gem

Background We are a couple in our early 70’s who have been on about seven cruises, most with Norwegian, but also with Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. We had a balcony cabin, Deck 9 midships on the starboard side. We traveled with another couple, also seasoned cruisers. This sailing elevated us to Latitudes Gold status with Norwegian. We secured what we thought was an excellent ...

Good value, good company, but not a great cruise

Before the expansion and widening of the Panama Canal, there were dozens of cruise ships built sized just like the NCL Gem. These were Panamax vessels, the biggest ships that could go through the original locks. They were all a bit over 90K tons, around 965’ long, and sailed with around 2400 guests and 1100 crew. They were big enough to support two- and three-story main dining rooms, several ...

Sailed with NCL 5 times

Review for a Bermuda Cruise on Norwegian Gem

We booked a 9 day Eastern Caribbean cruise with NCL in February 2012. This being our 5th time cruising exclusively with NCL. Scheduled to depart on October 29th. Unfortunately hurricane Sandy decided to pay us a visit and our cruise was delayed. The coast guard had closed the port of New York, and NCL had no information on when it was expected to re-open. We had lost power had no TV, internet, or ...

This was a first time cruise on Norwegian cruise lines by both me and my husband. We found the trip pleasant and the staff that took care of us in the restaurants and our room steward polite and friendly. The ship was clean and neat. We won't travel to Bermuda in October again. The weather was too cool, windy, rainy, and unpredictable. The food in the specialty restaurants was excellent. ...

NCL GEM to Bermuda October, 2011 "When good is just what you had in mind for your vacation." This was cruise #34 for me, with most on RCL/Celebrity/Cunard. So, I've been on my share of ships. The only other NCL ship I've done was the Sky, on a full-ship charter when it was new. So, this was like trying out a new line for me. I travel single, and booked a last-minute deal on an outside ...

I was excited about going to Bermuda as I've never gone before, unfortunately with the hurricane we were told once we arrived in NYC that we were going to Florida and the Bahamas. I was disappointed since I've been to both a few times already but I'd rather not ride into a hurricane. I was travelling with my sister and she's never been to the Bahamas or on a cruise for that matter so she didn't ...

Labor Day Week Bermuda Cruise... Or Not.

Review for a Bermuda Cruise on Norwegian Gem

I've cruised NCL once in the past in 2005 on the Dawn. I've cruised a few other times, including Royal Caribbean among others. I loved the freestyle concept on my last cruise, and that was one of the reasons we decided to stick with NCL for this cruise. My partner had never cruised NCL before, but had cruised a few times in the past, so neither of us were new to cruising. We knew there was ...

NCL Gem lacks luster 5.0 out of 10

Review for a Bermuda Cruise on Norwegian Gem

Spent a week on the NCL GEM to Bermuda. Overall, I would rate the ship no better than a 5.0 out of 10. The crew was marginally competent, and did not go out of their way to make the customer (me) welcome and comfortable. Service was poor most of the time, in the restaurants and bar service. The waiters were surly, and unfriendly, shoving the bill to sign with a grunt to sign it. Most had ...

Great Cruise - Great Food - So So People

The Norwegian Gem is a beautiful ship - layout is easy to remember, access to all of the main areas was easy, and everywhere you turned was a bathroom, an elevator, a bar, or something to do. The staff was fantastic as well, hard working and friendly, and many of them remembered our names. As first time cruisers, we picked this ship to test out the waters of cruising, and we loved it. The ...
