Spent a week on the NCL GEM to Bermuda. Overall, I would rate the ship no better than a 5.0 out of 10. The crew was marginally competent, and did not go out of their way to make the customer (me) welcome and comfortable. Service was poor most of the time, in the restaurants and bar service. The waiters were surly, and unfriendly, shoving the bill to sign with a grunt to sign it. Most had difficulty with the English language.

NO CREW MEMBER smiled on most of the cruise. This is not the kind of ship that you would want to be on if you had any sort of taste or standards.

Restaurant food was not imaginative and limited in variety and was generally of mediocre to poor quality. The dinner and lunch buffets were repetitive and quite boring. Breakfast was okay, but hard to screw up breakfast. But even it was limited and repetitive.

Cabin Review

Obstructed Oceanview

Cabin OK

Cabin was one with limited view port hole. That wasn't so bad, since we knew what we were getting. The beds were terrible, hard and uncomfortable, and did not join together well to make a queen bed. There was enough room to just walk around the bed.

One complaint however, being in a stateroom with the life boats in view. For most of the last cruising day there was someone walking around the life boats spraying to clean the boats of salt water. The people they used were voyeurs so beware of the peeping.
