The Great Outdoors. Has a nice size bar and buffet. Best of all, it's own soft-serve ice machine.

Review for a Bahamas Cruise on Norwegian Gem

We were a family of 8. An option was giving early on to bid on upgrading our staterooms. I took full advantage of it, and won a mini-suite for 2 for $200. USD for the entire cruise. We were assigned aft. I then told the rest of my family and they bid half that and all won, forward, behind the bridge! A beautiful place and space to have been in. Win some, lose some! As for the food...well, it ...

The cruise was average. The ship was nice and very clean. None of our party of 11 were wowed by any aspect of the cruise with the except of Alfred Albert, a bar waiter in the pacific dining room. He would deliver our drinks every night at dinner with smiles and jokes. I felt that the crew is overworked and just not happy. Service was slow!!! I didn't feel that this cruise ship was very kid ...

I wanted to go to Florida/Bahamas. The NCL decided that they would no longer let you bring water on board. Instead they sold you a water package on board the ship. A lot of ppl take medications, so you are basically forced to buy their water package, which is more money than bringing your own. The activities were very few, many trivia games, but having cruised quite a bit, it seems as though ...

I do a family & friends cruise every Year. They were never on the Gem and wanted to do this cruise. I have been on the Gem 3 times before. I have always had very good experiences on the Gem. However, this time was different. The service was not good. It took over 2 hrs. being served dinner in the dining rooms. Even when we said we wanted to be served quickly, it was long. It was long in ...

We chose this cruise because of past experience on the Breakaway. The Gem is a smaller and older vessel, but we did not feel rushed or had to stand in long lines for the buffet, main dining rooms, bars, etc. We traveled with with kids ranging from 9-21, between 2 families (we had rooms 9132&9134, Sil had 9028&9030), we were 9 all together. The older teenagers and 21 yr old had a good time at Bliss ...

Not worth the money

We chose this cruise because it sailed from NYC. Although embarking and disembarking were easy, the entertainment, service, and food left us disappointed. The nightly shows, with the exception of the incredible magician and the last night's 70's Show, were extraordinarily boring. The steakhouse food (Cagney's) was bland; Teppanyaki was without a doubt a highlight of the trip. The service and ...

I booked this cruise b/c I wanted to sail out of NYC and the line was highly recommended to me. There are many pros and cons. First the pros. the ship & cabin were spotless and the food was very good. Our cabin steward was great! The entertainment was great. Here are some of the cons. First of all, we sailed at 3 pm and my luggage never arrived until 10 pm. I was going to book one of the ...

The way in which people rave about NCL, I expected more..... We wanted to give NCL a try as friends had good experiences on other NCL cruises that left NYC. We had been to two of the three stops before so we opted for this getaway to compare the experiences with other cruise lines. I realize I went on an older boat but there were several large differences between Norwegian and other cruise ...

An okay experience at the price point

Review for a Bahamas Cruise on Norwegian Gem

First Time Cruiser • Age 30s

I recently sailed the Gem from New York to the Bahamas for 7 days. Price per person was actually great at only $499 per person, after tax and the mandatory gratuity total came out to roughly $1,600 for two people. This was my first cruise and I was on a budget so I didn't want to spend additional on extras such as room upgrades, drinks or excursions. This was a decent first cruise but I probably ...

The purpose of the cruise was to relax and rejuvenate, so this review does not include any information about entertainment, the casino, excursions, or anything related to children. This was a special mother/daughter/birthday cruise, and because of this I splurged for an aft Penthouse Suite. My hope was that the "suite" experience would be a little more special, and for the most part it was. ...
