All in all. It was a great cruise. I pre bought the wine package and the pixel package which was nice. Was able to get the more expensive pictures with the package and buy the others that were cheaper. We had fun doing just about nothing. Had some much needed rest and Relaxation. Out of all of our cruises. This is the first time we got on the ship that fast. Our longest wait was for paying for parking. We checked in and went strip on board. Had a great guy helping me get my wife on board since she was in a wheel chair. We ate everywhere except for the steak house and the Mongolia wok. The food was good. Not to surprise that on formal night. They didn't have the free steak or lobster. Guys burgers are always great. The staff was great. A big shout out to Ita and Radhida at the buffet. They were great in helping my wife who was in a wheel chair getting her food. They were very helpful. I don't think I can name of them. But they all made the cruise great. We didn't go to any of the shows. But performers in the lobby sounded great. Read Less

Cruise: Carnival Valor, 2019-09-09, from New Orleans Summary: not quite a five star cruise, let's call it four and a half. The good things were great, while the worst were merely mediocre. Us: 60+ retired folks who cruise often. We like New Orleans because it's a day's drive from home. We've been to Cozumel and Progreso many times, and plan to go again. Pre-cruise: we enjoy French Quarter night life - but it was 95 degrees after dark, so a quick walk was all we did. Our hosts at the 1870 Banana Courtyard B&B (in the French Quarter) say most music is now on Frenchman Street; we didn't get there. Most unfortunate, the Banana Courtyard has sold, and may not reopen as a B&B. Embarkation: wanted to try Cafe Du Monde, but could not find parking and so went to the ship a little early. Lots of people were there even earlier. Check-in times would have been a better idea if they had actually used them. But the lines moved quickly. The Valor is beautiful, very clean and polished. Only saw one grungy strip of rubber on the ship (I don't understand the complaints from other reviews.) We had an ocean-view cabin, mid ship on deck 1, which is a wonderful location. Fellow cruisers: every age. Most parents of young children seemed to have left them with grandparents, and teenagers were in school (I guess.) This was a mid-westerner's cruise. We found a lot of people who wanted to chat. Age didn't matter, we seemed to have many things in common with almost everyone we met. Nobody even mentioned politics! Highly recommended: the adults-only Serenity area. It's a three floor hike to two large hot-tubs. CruiseCritic thinks it is strange that the children's 3-story slide starts near Serenity, but there was never a problem; I think they looked at the deck layout on the computer and didn't actually walk up to Serenity. The very few children on the ship had no desire to invade an adults-only place. Even the rowdy 20 somethings seemed to prefer the (no kids) aft pool. Be sure not to miss: the eight hour river cruise from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico. See it from a Serenity hot-tub. Foodie warning: foodies won't like this ship. In the dining room the food is usually decent, but sometimes a little less than appetizing. My waiter made good suggestions on food, which I often ignored. The barbecue place had tasteless food; Guy's burgers were mundane at best. Except the chocolate buffet and the Mongolian buffet, the rest of the buffets were pretty mediocre. I got an amazingly good rib steak at the sea-day brunch, but otherwise brunch was disappointing - no juice, no pastries, and my wife wants me to mention that there was no bran cereal. Entertainment: the singers, dancers, and the band were excellent. I really enjoyed Sal the steel drum player. Comedians were plenty funny, especially the late shows. Too many acts for a short cruise - wish I'd had time to see more. Off-ship: cooking class in Cozumel was a lot of fun - recommended. Shrimp cocktail in Progreso beach restaurant - loved it. $9.00 private tour of Progreso was better than most $50 ship tours. Shopped at the Viva Mexico shop in Cozumel. Casino: thick plumes of smoke mark the spot. The odor told me to leave before losing any money. Guess I should be happy about that. My snark - Carnival figures smokers are natural-born losers, and they want nobody else in the casino. Dive-in movies: the Valor seems to have been designed for outdoor movies. Only problem was when it started to rain - now I may never know how Bohemian Rhapsody ended. Staff: almost everyone was very friendly. A little surprised to see so few ship officers on deck; I think this indicates that the staff members are well trained. Complaint: cruise director Kevin did way too many announcements. His voice is unfortunately grating on the intercom, and he's way too excited about boring stuff. I didn't see him on any of his shows, but my wife says he is not so bad in person. Carnival Hub cell phone app: nice to have. Sometimes the Fun Times newsletter (which I rate as a waste of paper) fails to mention things, but the Hub showed them. Some people told me the texting feature doesn't work reliably. The bad about the app - I like to leave billfold and phone in the safe; my suggestion (if you are listening, Carnival) is a ship card that displays a calendar of events. Debarkation: in the car and leaving the garage by 7:30. Never expected to be home Saturday evening. One couple from Chicago was staying on the Valor for another identical cruise. Their reason - maximum cruising with minimum driving. Good idea. I might consider driving from New Orleans to Mobile or Galveston for the same reason, but with a slightly different second cruise. We went with 3 dear close friends on a 5 day from New Orleans. We had an excellent time. Tony our Steward was excellent and took great care of us !! Food outlets and restaurants as well steak house were great, We loved Café Denis in Cozumel but stayed on ship in Progresso as its too far to go anywhere in our opinion. The folks at The Alchemy Bar especially EDUARDO were fabulous !! Great service and great fun !! Didn't care for the comedian but that's a personal taste. Many enjoyed the show. We would sail it again. The Love and Marriage show was fun but not LGBTQ friendly in terms of having a same sex couple up there. There were numerous gay couples on board, and a diverse crowd. Everyone got along and there were no issues on board except a late fire alarm that I didn't hear about thanks to a few too many XO Martinis. I love the glory and would sail it again. Its an easy ship to navigate and not too large. Its starting to show its age a touch but Im sure Carnival will refurbish it within a few years. We loved it and I recommend it. Read Less

We sailed out of New Orleans on 04/07 for our five night cruise. Embarkation was easy and we were able to walk right onto the ship. Room was ready when we arrived so we got to unpack and relax for a bit. We chose to eat at O'Sheehans and the service and good were good. Ship itself was spacious and clean. Staff always made eye contact and greeted us. We chose the drinks package, dining package, shore excursion credits and wifi as part of our Free At Sea promotions. While I agree with some of the reviews that it can take time to get drinks, we never had a problem with waiting too long or with the quality of the drinks. There are plenty of bars around the ship to get what you need. For the dining package, we used our credits for the Cirque Dreams show as well as a dinner at Cagney's. The show itself was fantastic, but the food left a lot to be desired. Dinner at Cagney's was just OK. Cuts of meat were large but I would not have been happy paying the $80.00 price tag for the meal without the credit. We had dinner in the main dining rooms the remaining nights and always found the service and food to be fantastic. The buffet was great for lunch or a quick snack, always with a quick soft serve cone for dessert. Getting on and off the ship during our two port days was easy and the staff provided cool towels on the hot day in Costa Maya and warm dry towels on the cold rainy day in Cozumel. We did the Passion Island beach excursion in Cozumel through the cruise line. Service to the island was quick but we would most likely not choose this again. The beach was just OK and the drinks were watered down. Food provided was good though. Weather turned south about an hour after our arrival. We had to endure a rough and rainy ride back to the pier in our ferry. Rough seas forced us to dock across the harbor and walk back in the rain. We did receive a partial credit for our cost, plus our $50 credit for the port. In Costa Maya we chose to book our own beach excursion at the 40 Cannons Hotel/Pez Quadro Beach Club and it was amazing. Beach was the definition of a vacation paradise with plenty of drinks and food. Our cabin was nicely appointed and we loved the spa-like shower with the rain head and nozzles in the bathroom. The balcony, although small, was adequate and relaxing. Our room included access to the Thermal Suite as well. This was definitely worth the price. The stone loungers felt great on my back and we were able to take a couple of naps. It could get a little noisy at times from other patrons, but overall a relaxing experience. I was hesitant to take this trip based on some of the recent reviews, but we had an amazing time and are definitely looking at booking with NCL again. Read Less

The hero squad was great from the guest services team down to the activities team. My husband and I loved how it was adult oriented, which does not mean that it did not exclude the children there were plenty of places for adults to hang out without having kids around, because we did not take our children on this one. Our room steward was more than helpful with everything. And with our spa balcony were had included access to the spa which was very relaxing and serene with that fabulous panoramic view. We did not make it to the specialty dining rooms, but we were able to dine in at the Taste and Savor as well as the Garden Cafe' which were well beyond our expectations. The selection of food was remarkable and much more than we anticipated. While using the internet package it actually worked better than what I have experienced on another cruise line. We did not have any shore excursions through the cruise line, we just took a taxi to Mr. Sancho's which was so great. Finally the shows, we were only able to make it to one of the show Burn the Floor, and it was very good. It was our last night and we were not ready to leave. The overall experience was good, it is highly recommended to anyone ready to relax. We will most definitely go again next time with the children. Read Less

It was our first family cruise with 2 kids. I do not even know where to start .... the staff were amazing, our cabin was always clean, beds made, fresh towels... and every time we would come back from all our activities, there would be an elephant, or penguin, or a puppy made from towels.... kids absolutely loved it!!!! The highlight for the kids, was of course... Splash Academy!!! Kids never wanted to leave that place:) They organized kids to perform and dance on a stage, painted there faces, it was great show!!! Best kids show ever!!! And while kids had fun, we had even more fun!!! There is an ice room, where you have a few drinks while dressed like am Eskimo... it’s really cold in there. Piano dueling performance, stand up comedy, casino. On one floor we found great live piano performance....I have not danced like that with my husband since our wedding 10 years ago. Do not even let me start on food... it was outstanding!!!! Caribbean, Asian, Nexican and my favorite, Italian!!! We ate lot’s of Tiramesu cake:) Everyone were very polite, thoughtful and organized!!!! It was smooth sailing ⛵️, we felt great, no motion sickness at all!!! Big shut out to Captain Matko Candrlik for a safe and smooth sailing!!! We started planning another trip while we were on the ship:) Read Less

Review of Norwegian Breakaway This was our first cruise ever. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and our budget did not permit a stay at a resort with the same amenities as the cruise ship. My husband was 110% convinced this was a good idea and asked that I give it a try. I was very skeptical and researched it WAY too much. Going in, I had a very low bar of expectations. Why? I read the reviews (every single one) and was skeptical. Crowds? Unhappy crew? Long lines at bars? Nickel and diming us? Let me say first, we come from an urban area and I am really tired of crowds of people. I also wanted it to be clean as I am a bit obsessive with cleanliness and healthiness. Well, turns out I should have remembered that the reviews are a small slice of the 4300 plus customers on board. They were way off. That is the short version. If you are debating based on the reviews if you should go or not…just go! As I researched SO much, I wanted to share all that I learned. Cleanliness? The ship was clean beyond clean. They made you wash your hands everywhere. LOVE it. This is actually how the whole world should operate…wash before you touch anything to do with food. In the bathroom, use a paper towel to open the door. Don’t fill your germ coated water bottle at the buffet! And wash down the common areas frequently. Check! All done by NCL. Crowds? The ship had 4300 passengers (not including crew) on our trip so they were down 500 people from capacity. I did not find the ship crowded at all. Yes, there were some sunny days where the pool deck was filled…but just go up to the next level and there were tons of places to sit (and get a drink). The pool is small…but this is a ship. If you want a lazy river…then go to a waterpark. I found plenty of places to sit and read or just look out at the sea with no one else even remotely near me. (Deck 8 Waterfront and the top Adults only deck in particular). The lines at the bars? Umm..not really. The pool bar (with Paul…who was amazingly efficient and friendly) had a good crowd at it so you MIGHT have had to wait 5 minutes or more. However, if you have ever gone to any bar with going to, then you will have to wait a bit to get a drink. Maybe the previous reviewers only went to a mythical Cheers bar. Handy tip: bring 50 one dollar bills with you and give the bartender a dollar or two per drink. This will get their attention, they won’t forget you, and they really appreciate it. Yes, I know gratuity is included, but that is spread out among a lot of people. A buck or two a drink is actually a true tip for them. So find a few good bartenders and they will remember you. They give you your drinks quickly and sometimes even top them off with a little extra. Crowds at the buffet? Can’t figure out which way to go? This was what people complained about. I am guessing these people also complain about tags in their clothing. It is a buffet. There are people. Look up and say excuse me and keep walking. Not hard to figure out. The buffet was great. We went at many different times and never had trouble getting a seat or getting food. It was far more efficient, quiet, and less crowded than a food court at Tysons Mall (and about 100 times more delicious). Rooms? Ours was great. You could hear the baby next to us sometimes, but that was it and he was super cute (And slept through the night…just did not like his nap time!). You could NOT hear voices from the adjoining rooms, though you could hear the hallway chatter. The room size was the equivalent of a NYC or European typical hotel room. We had the family balcony room (12760) and for the two of us it was more than enough. The bathroom is larger than our bathroom at home (keep in mind, we are urban dwellers). The balcony is lovely! Crew? The crew was great. Previous reviews said they were surly. Nope. They were pleasant. They did not go around singing the “Happy Working Song” from Enchanted, but that would have been annoying. Some of the bar staff was more reserved, but that is OK, too. They did their jobs and were respectful (despite some passengers being downright rude to them). Shows? Fantastic. The Rock of Ages complaint that it was not appropriate for kids (or some adults) is laughable. The show takes place in the 80s on Sunset Strip. The set is a street that has signs for “Live girls” and you can see it before the show starts. They literally announced on the loudspeaker of the ship what type of show it was and they announced twice BEFORE the show that it was not at all suitable for kids or suitable for adults who get easily offended. So I am not sure what the fuss was about. There are plenty of other shows to see on the ship if that is not your cup of tea. We enjoyed it. Parts of it raised my eyebrows, but nothing that you don’t see on cable in terms of dress or language. We were surprised that a family sat behind us with two kids elementary or middle school aged. I would not have brought the kids to this show. We also enjoyed the magician, who was on the line up on the Dailies but not announced prior to the cruise, and Burn the Floor. Nickel and dime you? They are pretty upfront as to what costs money and what does not. To play in the arcade, you pay per game. They basketball arcade, bowling, and air hockey, are all pay per game. The prices are reasonable. We had onboard credit due to our package we purchased and despite playing multiple games of everything we ended up getting money back. On the last day we went down to the guest services and they paid us cash. We have not done other cruises so it seemed fine to us. We did not go to the restaurants that had an upfront fee as there were plenty of choices without the fee restaurants. Excursions? Fantastic. We had booked a catamaran snorkel, but they did not have enough people to run the tour. So they helped us rebook the 3 Reef Snorkel. It was awesome. The second reef had tons of amazing coral. All of the reefs had great fish, but the second reef was the best. You had plenty of time in the water as well (see my review under excursions). They dropped us back on the pier (a little ways down from our desired spot due to an incredibly intense rainstorm) and walked us back so we knew where to go through customs. Be sure to check what your transportation is at the end of your excursion. Some folks wound up a few miles from the pier (apparently) due to the rain storm and had to get their own way back. This is just what we heard from others, not sure if that was true or not. We appreciated the crew brining warm towels to greet us at the ship after being really wet from the storm! We did the clear bottom kayak in Costa Maya. The kayaks were nice…the glass bottom was very clear and you could see a lot of fish. The guide pointed out the areas to paddle to. It was a small group and we enjoyed the time at the beach as well. Embarkation/Disembarkation? It was a breeze. The line for the cabs to drop off was long, but once the guy on the ground started directing traffic, it was fine. The lines to check in at 11 moved super fast. Disembarkation was simple as well. We took our own luggage and exited without fuss. We did check our bags at the service that brings them to the airport for you so that we could wander around New Orleans for the day. Well worth the $40. Other stuff: We enjoyed the mini golf…a good course with lots of challenges. I liked the basketball court and my husband liked the ropes course. We liked having the library on board (with free crosswords!) and enjoyed the Atrium shows (Newly wed game, Q& A with the cast, Q&A with the crew). So that is what I learned. Yes, it was a long review, but if you are sitting at home scrolling through reviews, I hope you benefit from it. We enjoyed the cruise and had plenty of quiet places together. Last tip: please bring Reef Safe sunscreen (our local Target had it or you can get it online). It makes a huge difference when you in the waters in the Caribbean. That is my only suggestion for NCL: to make sure all passengers have the Reef safe option (on board it does not matter so much). Read Less

NOLA was a blast as always, got there the day before. We parked at Fulton Garage without incident, no shuttle wait at all. Breakaway embarkation at noon was fast, painless. Traffic there is a nightmare with the construction. I have no idea if parking at the pier was any easier. Stayed in cabin 12780. Excellent location right by the front stairs. A forward facing angled balcony, the extra room out there was nice. Little to no noise from the kiddie, elevator area and on spring break, forgot it/they were there. The balcony was not too windy, very pleasant. I found the provided soap, wash, and conditioner adequate, your mileage may vary. The tap water was perfectly fine, taste free. Bring 3 way plug extenders vs power strips - they will confiscate those if they find them. Glad I brought both. We also brought a Bluetooth speaker, no one complained about the music, but maybe that was just our exceptional taste. La Cucina was our favorite Specialty dining followed by the Cirque dinner show. (Cirque menu is a planned Surf & Turf) Word to the wise, they really were pushing the T-Bone at Cagney’s and La Cucina. Steer clear of that & you will be OK. In fact the La Cucina filet with ravioli on top was the best I've ever had! No kidding! The entertainment was all great. Rock of Ages is not to be missed, unless you are prudish, lol. The Glow party was a blast, the teens on spring break did take that over a bit, all good! The UBP was amazing, the bar waits by the pools could get long, however there are a couple carts that had beer and drink of the day, those never had lines. The best bar IMO is Maltings. Also try the bar next to it with the Aperol! Yum! Boardwalk Syd Normans bar is 2nd for the laid back outdoor view. Early morning bloody marys are found only at the Atrium bar. Grab one before going to Savor for a nice sit down breakfast at 7:30… did I say early? The sushi at Wasabi is awesome with great prices, great for a light boardwalk lunch. The Rock N Roll with rock shrimp kicked it! The noodle bar was a good too, and included! The main pool can be a crazy sea of humanity, fun for a bit, but not very relaxing. Chair hogging is ridiculously rampant. We simply did not stress over it and could always find loungers in the sun or shade somewhere. When we were done we packed up and found a different & sometimes more fun location later, no problem. Spice H20 at the back was our go too place, and generally the bartenders there were pretty quick. The front of the ship has an area too next to Vibe. That bar is smaller and can get a line. Most folk at all bars were courteous and paid attention to who was next, vs thirstiest. O'Sheehans was always fun, good bar food, TVs, draft beers, quick service. We always do our excursions independently. At Harvest Caye you must be off the boat first thing and get to the marina to get the first ferry to Placencia. They will not sell you 9AM ferry tickets from the ship and the ferry always gets full. On Car Rentals in Cozumel - If you rent a jeep or car there make sure the gas attendant zeros the pump out first and make sure you are clearly above the tank mark where you picked it up or you will get dinged. I always video the entire car in the presence of the rental agent at pick up too. Disembarkation was the smoothest I've experienced. So unless you have to get off super early just let the ship deal with your luggage. Read Less

I have sailed with carnival Previously on the Triumph for a 4 day cruise. This ship was extremely similar and I enjoyed it just as much if not more. I did love the serenity deck, but it also being the deck of camp ocean ( for kids) was a little confusing. Really enjoyed speciality meal and the steak house and of course, Guys burger. Main restaurant food was iffy . Cruise director was great and fun. Casino was good and never too crowded. Placed third in the slot tournament so that was fun. Our balcony room was fun and nice to have an outside area to sit and watch the ocean. So much to do and never enough time to do it. We loved our cabin steward. We had a great cruise , a great ship and all staff we encountered were very accommodating! Will definitely Sail again with carnival Read Less

We had an amazing time on the Norwegian Breakaway! Embarkation was extremely smooth and fast - we got off of the shuttle and walked straight through the line without stopping until we made it to the desk. Everything was so fast and easy and there was no hold up during the process. The ship was gorgeous and so clean, too! We had an aft balcony cabin, and it was such a great room! We loved our balcony! We were on the 13th floor and could hear music from Spice H2O at night, but there was only 1 night that it bothered us. That night I believe the bass was turned up way too much, as everything in our room rattled. The other nights it wasn't loud and didn't seem to bother us at all. Our favorite restaurant was Le Bistro - we loved the atmosphere as well as our food. The food was phenomenal! Matter of fact, on our next cruise, we want to be sure Le Bistro is on the ship we choose so we can experience it again (or maybe twice!). There was so much to do every day, and unfortunately we didn't get to do everything we wanted to, but we were never bored of anything. All of the staff that we encountered on the ship were so friendly and helpful. We cannot wait to book our next adventure with NCL! Read Less

An overall great value! The week was a wonderfully relaxing experience! The service was five star! The speciality dining restaurants were amazing, the menus were unique and well put together, the staff was attentive and the epitome of customer service! The spa was a wonderful quiet place of relaxation and tranquility on the boat! The thermal suite is a must for any NCL cruise! Cave tubing in Belize was an amazing shore excursion. Thankfully it was a NCL shire excursion and the boat waited for all members of the group to make it safely back on board before departing (the excursion was about two hours late returning to the terminal) The entertainment was a bit of a let down this cruise. Rock of ages was cancelled due to performer sickness, and Cirque was sold out by day one which was a bummer. Burn the Floor was excellent and the 18+ comedy show was pure hilarity. Greetings All! This was our first time on Royal. We've done Disney and Carnival multiple times. We wanted to try a different crowd and a smaller ship. !. New Orleans is within driving distance, so we again departed from this port. We were off to a rocky start, as our pre-planning missed the fact it was Mardi Gras!!! ooops. Luckily we drove down the night before, intending to hit the Quarter for an evening, but unexpectedly endured the traffic and blocked streets due to parade. We toured, but only in circles until the streets opened. :( I'm just happy we went the night before!! 2. Royal parking and luggage drop off is different from the others we've done. Parking is uncovered. And we missed luggage drop of as their process is different--- (so again, our pre-planning missed something). This was not a pleasant surprise, but it quickly recovered. Because of #3 3. Embarkation was seamless. No lines, no waiting, no nonsense, no problem! Immediately to our room--- and luggage within an hour!!! WOW! The bars were open--- (something we indulge when we 'check out' of real life) and taking a deep breath, our adventure began! 4. Our room. A scary decision, but one of our nervously anticipated new choices for a new cruise line. Ultra Spacious Oceanview ---- for two :) . I put pics on cruisedeckplans.com with this feedback: This cabin was a pleasant surprise. We have always had a balcony room, but this room was a different kind of choice-- because of the 2nd bedroom. The cabin sleeps 6, but it was just hubby and myself. It was our anniversary--- and he romantically ordered the anniversary decor. It was soooo charming for the week. The second bedroom... we used for a closet!!! (7 days worth of clothes/shoes! And we always dress for every dinner and/or event.) For us, having an out-of-site area for luggage/belongings made the room so cozy and tidy. The bathroom was good. Plenty of room for us, along with the over the door (shoe) organizer for our brushes/jewelry/personals. We also took magnetic hooks for lanyards/sunglasses. Every surface seemed magnetic! Plenty of power outlets for us--- on the vanity as well as one in the bathroom. We took plug converters just in case. WARNING: DO NOT TAKE A POWER STRIP! Disney and Carnival didn't seem to mind our power strips, but Royal does not play! We were called to the "principal's office", and were all but body searched and fingerprinted because of this!!! They kept it during the voyage, and we didn't even bother to pick it up afterwards because it was an unpleasant memory. (Shame on us for testing the the rules). Temperature was great, with two thermostats. TV with limited stations (take your players, as they DO have apps and ports to access your personal movies, etc. on the TV) Despite some of the blogs I've read, there IS indeed a tiny refrigerator. Our steward was always available for our needs. But we are we are very low maintenance--- sleeping late, and staying out till wee hours. We requested ice one time, and it was always there for us. The cabin was perfect for us. There are very few of this floor plan so grab it quick! 5. Overall ship was quaint and well maintained. The crowd was different, as we expected, and actually HOPED. We're reaching the 50yo mark, so it was nice to be a part of the younger 1/3. Not the party/rowdy group of Carnival. Not the helicopter parents of Disney (There were a FEW children/families). It was quiet and peaceful. I must say: THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM people-wise. We NEVER had trouble finding space at tables/pool/bars/deck... I loved this! Our "personal space" is important to us, and this was GREAT! No lines at the buffets, no worrying about tables, no worries of rudeness/getting bumped going through doors/hallways/elevators. A huge difference from Carnival and Disney. 6. Food--- We're not picky. Buffet was ample/variety. Menus in dining room were nice. All typical of a cruise. One thing we did not like, there is no 24 hour snack availability. We could have done room service after hours, but there is a delivery fee. Snacks available until 2am at one area, which we learned to grab something there before 2am. 7. Service --- No complaints at all, (except the Customer Relations and Security listed above as I embarrassingly cringe). Dining staff was superb (we had a table for two). Bar staff was superb and SPEEDY! There is no dilly-dally like the other lines. Alcohol flows freely. Steward was happily available. 8. We did not do excursions this time--- we walked the ports at our leisure, and got our token souvenirs as we do at every stop (ALWAYS a Harley-Davidson Pin for hubby's little "Harley Davidson Christmas Tree"). The ports were clean with a gentle crowd. 9. We did not attend the shows this time. (Boy, we sound boring. But we were very much enjoying our personal time together- wink). There were many to choose from, with a variety of events scheduled for participation. They do have the daily "Compass" similar to the "Navigator" and "FunTimes". The phone app is sufficient. 10. Disembarkation --- Very organized and seamless. Dismissal groups were smaller and well planned. We rolled right off the ship. Customs was a simple walk through (NOTHING like the cattle herding on the others). I was wow'd. Luggage was waiting. Porters were a bit hard to flag down--- but we got the RIGHT one -- he cleared the lobby and took ALL of our luggage ALL THE WAY to our vehicle in the distant parking lot. WOW AGAIN. Overall--- YESSSS --- we will do Royal Caribbean again. Next to test out a bigger/newer ship--- but selectively. Our social/personal space is very important, and this one will be hard to match. So a 5000 passenger ship is now very intimidating-- but I want to see the "Central Park" set up on one of the new ships I hope this wordy review helps. Read Less

First, the cruises offered by ACL are geared towards mature audiences - 60's and up, although there very people much younger on this cruise. Actually who's on the cruise really doesn't matter to me, as long as people are enjoying their experience. I have taken 7 ocean cruises and on rivercruise (20 years ago). If you are expecting in your face activities and craziness, pick something other than a river cruise. This was a celebration cruise for my husband and I, and when greeted when boarding the boat, we were congratulated and on the second day, after returning from a shore excursion, we found champagne and strawberries in our cabin! Every crew member is there to serve you and extend extraordinary customer service, which was evident every minute of the day (we had to ask someone to thread a needle, and they did so with a smile!). When crew members say they love their jobs, that says something about a company! Because the river was running high, a last minute change of itinerary was made and I thought it gave us an even better experience; also, Because we were in the height of Mardi Gras season, instead of staying in a hotel pre-cruise (part of your fare), we stayed on the boat - we were greeted by a lovely buffet and drinks. We were not able to dock at Houmas House or Oak Alley, but those excursions were changed to days when we were in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. We cruised up to St. Francisville instead on the first day, and had the choice of three additional excursions (only 2 of the many offered were premium at an extra charge, by the way...). Also in Baton Rouge, which is not the most exciting stop, they added a walking tour by their river guide, which made is all worth while. And because we returned to New Orleans a half day early, excursions to the WW2 museum and a French Quarter walking tour were added! I think this was all handle exceptionally well!!! On the ACL cruises, beer and wine are included at Lunch, cocktail hour, dinner and during the evening entertainment, so you are not running up a tab. The food was excellent and you could request half portions. There were also snacks, coffee, tea, fruit, juice and soda always available in two of the lounges. My husband had never cruised before and I knew that an ocean cruise was out of the question - he thoroughly enjoyed this and we are considering other itineraries in the future. The cost seems high at first, but when I compared it to an ocean cruise with similar accommodations (balcony), and considering that there is no charge for adult beverages, no tipping, free excursions, free WIFI, the cost is comparable. Cabin 9916 has a huge balcony, two bathrooms and grants you access to the Haven. This room is out of this world. One shower has a variety of jets and a glass wall to view the ocean. Tons of storage. The Haven bar and wait staff are terrific and so is the food. We loved the rope course on this ship. Concierge Bowen is very professional and does an outstanding job in arranging all your dinner and show needs. We tried the Italian, French, Cagneys, Moderno and Ocean Blue and all very good. Ocean Blue is worth the up charge. You can walk most of the way around the ship on deck eight and the views are good at that level. Can’t recommend the cruise next staff. You can book deposits with no problems but not a future cruise. They could never get the promotions right, had to fix when I got off the ship with NCL. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. Very happy with the cruise overall. There were a few things that could have been better, such as embarkation and debarkation. Also the stop in Grand Cayman was not very organized with 5 other ships in port, because of the lack of organization our shore excursion left late and seemed to be rushed trying to get caught up and we still ended up getting back to the ship late. Thankfully it was a Norwegian booked tour and the ship had to wait for us otherwise we would have been out of luck. Our cruise was great except for the few things mentioned above, the ship was fantastic and the workers were great. Our room steward Jonah was very good at her job , always had a smile and something nice to say. Our butler Manolito was also very pleasant and made sure we wanted for nothing. We also had the privilege of having Bowen the best concierge that we have ever had on any cruise, Bowen was vey helpful, cheery and seemed to really enjoy his job, we hope to cross paths with all of them again on another cruise. As for the different stops that we made they were all good. Cozumel we did a Mexican cuisine and cooking class that we would most likely do again given the chance. Two stops in Belize one at Harvest Caye where we just hung out on the beach, the only downside of this private island is that nothing is included except the beach chairs. Second stop in Belize we visited the Mayan ruins at Lamanai which we would highly suggest. Grand Cayman we did the turtle farm and stingray city which would have been better if not so rushed. Finally in Jamaica we had a beautiful day at the beach. Read Less

We picked this cruise because it was over Superbowl weekend. We wanted to watch the big game form the big screen up on deck. We arrived at the port about 30 minutes after our arrival time since we received an email telling us not to arrive early and that boarding would be delayed due to loading of equipment and supplies. The guy managing the line made us rush past other and said you are late, we arrived at 155 pm and out boarding time was 130 pm, so what ever, then he got mad at us because I printed our documents on 1 page of paper back to back thinking I was being eco friendly, he said this will not work you need to each hold your own paper work, why? whats the difference? We have never had this problem before. We were onboard by 215 pm and ready to have fun. I had read lots of complaints about this ship as how bad of shape it was in. I did not see any issues, yes you could tell that it was due for an update, but nothing like others have posted recently. The Triumph is an easy to navigate ship, well laid out. Our Cabin was dated looking but it is going to be refurbed next month. Our bed was comfy and our cabin spacious with plenty of closet space. We had a great time on sea days, so many activities and some really good music in the evening. Getting on and off the ship in ports was so easy, never had to wait in a line. I Cozumel we just did our own thing, been there many times before. I Progresso we took the scenic photo and foodie tour to Merida. We really enjoyed this tour, the guides were wonderful and the tour of the city was very enjoyable and the food was great. We felt rushed on the tour due to time crunch, the time we spend in a local bakery was way too long, but the tour guides couldn't get the other people out of the bakery. The staff on the ship we excellent, professional and willing to talk to the guests. Kudos to the Bar staff they entertained my husbands bad jokes, ha ha. Really they were lots of fun. Disembarkation was smooth and very fast. I look forward to seeing the ship after it comes out of dry dock. We had a great time and will sail with Carnival again. Read Less

Wanted New Orleans cruise . Wanted to try Norwegian and try a larger ship. We were very happy with all of the above. Larger ship delivered great entertainment as well as diversity of entertainment. We really enjoyed the various dining options and the service was great. Even though the largest ship we ever sailed on , we witnessed very high service level on deck and the movement around the ship was very smooth and relaxing. We really enjoyed the flexible dining times. Temperature control Inthe cabin was excellent. The excursions we took were great and very well organized. It was very nice having access to breakfast on disembarkation. Also first time we self disembarked which was a great choice . Basically walked off the ship with no crowds. Finally casino was nice to have a nonsmoking section. Norwegian won our business. We plan to sail with them this summer to Alaska. Read Less

This was our 4th cruise with RCCL and by far our favorite! We loved the Vision and her crew. Our waiter was absolutely amazing, making recommendations and making sure everything was to our liking. He had a great personality and gave us great, personal service. The food in the windjammer and MDR was excellent! The windjammer staff did a great job of keeping the buffet area stocked and clean. There were always plenty of options for each meal. We did MTD and were able to walk right in for our table at our reserved time. Our stateroom attendant was also great, quickly taking care of our room in the morning and evenings. The ship was lovely and the activities staff constantly had fun things going on. The ship did not seem dated to me, despite previous reviews I had read. Everything looked updated and clean. The entertainment was good but I would have preferred more variety than the 3 comedians. In the past we’ve had magicians, aerial acrobats, etc. I definitely recommend the Vision! Read Less

We love cruising Norwegian, and this was a our best ever experience: - We booked through Dan McCormick, our Norwegian Cruise Consultant. As always, Dan was a great asset to us and to Norwegian. He's friendly, professional, available, and striving to make sure we had a great vacation. - Embarkation was busy, but the staff kept the line moving. It's a large ship, and we are bronze latitude members, so that's to be expected. It would have been nice if folks didn't try to line jump, but certainly not the staff's fault. Staff members at check-in were very friendly. - We loved our cabin and it was very comfortable (see below). - The food was very good. We ate at Taste, Savor (Main Dining Rooms), the Garden Buffet, and O'Sheehan's. We also had a great meal at the onboard Cirque Fantasy. The only time we experienced really poor service or quality was at O'Sheehan's. The staff just seemed new and it was difficult to get service. They kind of stood around, and this was the only place on the ship we saw that happening. Food was often not optimal temp when served at O'Sheehan's and the food was not up to the standard on the rest of the ship. That said, Taste, Savor and Garden Buffet were excellent. Daily selections kept us trying new things and we didn't eat at the specialty restaurants at all. The buffet was far above average and the staff there was wonderful, always singing and coming by the tables. Savor's staff also stood out as excellent and personable. - We loved the shows. We saw Rock of Ages (80's fun), Burn the Floor (they're so talented), three of the Levity Comedy shows (Tom Foss is the best!) and the Cirque Fantasy (fabulous!) and did the Escape Room (loads of fun). Rock of Ages was very entertaining and exactly as billed. It was disappointing to see that so many went and then reviewed it poorly. It's raunchy in a fun way, and there's lots to do on the ship if this is not your cup of tea. I can't recommend Cirque Fantasy highly enough, though it is extra. - We played miniature golf, worked out in the fitness center, walked and lounged on Deck 8 and spent as much time outside as possible, since the weather was excellent. I highly recommend Deck 8 (The Waterfront) for daytime reading and friendly conversations. It's quiet and comfortable. It's also the best outdoor walking, as the "jogging track" is in a busy recreation area where people kept bumping into us and is only really good for jogging early a.m. and late day. - We're not drinkers and didn't have the package, so I can't review that portion of the service, but we did enjoy our free sparkling wine as Latitude members. - The casino is way too open and that kept us from seeing and doing things on Deck 6, 7 and 8 inside because of the stench of cigarettes. That kept us from trying the Shanghai Noodle Bowl, as it's basically inside the casino. Other guests told us the restaurant wasn't the best, and there was so much great food elsewhere we weren't bothered. - The crew is nice and accommodating, but I recommend going to Guest Services personally if you have a question. The Box Office is pure chaos, and your Box Office booked shows won't show up on your app or TV screen. - We took two shore excursions through Norwegian. Both were great and we thought they were a good value for the tour received. The excursions are very well organized. Our tour of Chacchoben Mayan ruins from Costa Maya was excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The Turtle Centre in George Town Grand Cayman was a wonderful experience. These folks do great work, it's a great place to learn about these beautiful creatures. I recommend the shore excursion because I heard some folks getting dubious info from local tour companies. We would joyfully sail Norwegian and The Breakaway again. We definitely recommend this cruise. Read Less

Dream Embarkation Wedding Review(Song Lounge and Burgundy Lounge) -I just have to go ahead and say our experience was incredible and completely exceeded my expectations! I did hair and makeup for myself and my bridesmaids at our hotel. We shuttled from our parking space. I definitely recommend giving yourself extra time. We were almost late to check in. This made meeting our coordinator and letting our guests know where to go pretty hectic. Jill was our coordinator, and she was fabulous. She made sure someone brought me lunch to my room. They didn't have our first dance song, but she made it happen. She took care of setting up our decorations in the ceremony and reception spaces. She also made sure everyone signed our guest book. Valeria was our wedding host. She made sure I was never empty handed. She checked in on us throughout the week and made our steakhouse reservations. For hors d'oeuvres we had: shrimp sushi, tomato mozzarella, steak burritos, chicken empanadas, beer battered fish, and smoked salmon. For drinks we had rum punch and margaritas. Our cake was coconut with coconut filling, The food was plentiful and delicious. The drinks were strong and they kept them coming. So strong that half our guests didn't make it the dining room that night! The reception itself was great. We did the first dance, mother/son and father/daughter dance, and cake cutting. The rest was party time. The dj had us dancing the entire time. The reception was only an hour long but I don't think our guests could have handled any longer. Kadek was our photographer and he made the wedding for me! I was so worried about pictures and I had no reason to be. The ceremony was in the Song Lounge and we had the curtains open for natural light. He took us all around the ship for pictures. We took so long that I had to go to Muster Call in my wedding dress. Overall, I'd recommend Carnival for a wedding a million times over. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary as 11 days! and Caribbean! NCL really has their act together when you are talking about their packages you can choose to add to your cruise when signing up! Of course, duh!, first choice unlimited drinking package and balcony or higher 3 choices and even more as you go up in room category. The operation of the ship as far as handling the large ship under all circumstances was probably the most professional I have seen yet. Everything they did was smooth to a "T" and most of the time when parking it was amazing. I am an engineer by trade, so I was amazed how good they were. The ship is really easy to explore around , even has fish on the carpet swimming to the front so you don't get turned around. They kept us busy by having many above average shows and performances nearly every night. I will rate the entertainment down just a bit as there were a few days that we wanted to go to the comedian, and you had to arrive at least 30 mins early or you can't get in and most of the entertainment you had to pre - book so what happens is the experienced cruisers (you know who they are) get to pre-book BEFORE the "regular" cruisers so A. best times are taken and B. A lot of shows or specialty dining is all booked up. C. And then they don't show up. I really don't like the "know the rules" handling of the shows and specialty dinners as some book and then never show up. The specialty dining was some of the best ever when you do get in, but I really don't like eating at 9:45pm and missing shows that are usually scheduled between 9-10pm for the good adult stuff. There were a few times the specialty dining rooms showed booked up on the computer and yet were 1/2 full or just a little better, and yet if you went to the dining kiosk to book dining, it said all booked up. Anyway in my rambling, freestyle cruising is ok, you can scale back your dining attire a little, but my wife and I feel it is a little more respectful to dress a little nicer than that, which is ok. We come from a rural environment and my wife doesn't get to wear warm climate dresses except for on cruises so we raise up the dress a little above minimum for the specialty dining. Freestyle dining or cruising should be just that, either very limited rules or none at all. You can eat anytime you want, but realistically you can't because the Haven on up people have most of the booking booked early. The crews on the ship were professional and fun and after the first day recognized you! I made some permanent friends and yes I did purchase the CruiseNext bonus which is way better return than the stock market. We had a spa room, and enjoyed the thermal suites area, but if I had to upgrade from a regular room to Spa and purchase the rights, I personally don't feel it would have been worth it. The Doctor on board was absolutely amazing and helped my wife with a few things and she was very happy with the top notch professionalism he showed. NCL didn't really brag that they had him on the ship and my wife stumbled upon his video in the spa and he literally saved us thousands of dollars and did a better job! WIN_WIN! Getting on and off the ship was a breeze, and the NCL transfers to and from the airport were convenient and fast and professional. In summary, NCL is very classy, professional, great employees both in operations and service, and just needs to work on the booking of entertainment and specialty meals and they will have it all. One more thing, the specialty dining options are top notch, better than any normal dining I have access to at home, and the first trip I went to them it was smooth and easy and very enjoyable. But now everyone has figured out how good they really are and you are lucky to get any reasonable time to actually get to go to them to eat. It seems the only slots open are when you wanted to go to a show that night, so instead of doing both (like on other cruise lines) You have to sacrifice one for the other. I still would rate the overall trip at 9.6! Read Less

The comedy shows were hilarious, I never laughed so hard. We loved Burn the Floor, this is a must if you are on the Breakway. Rock of Ages was ok, just not what I was expecting. We just got off the Breakaway 12/23/18 and already booking another one, looking at April. I just love cruising. The layout was pretty easy to get around. The only problem of course is the pool area, where everyone holds chairs all day and never go to them but no one pulls the belongings from the chairs. Out of our 7 day cruise we were only able to hang out by the pool with chairs on one day. But that one day we had a blast at the pool. We are going to bring our grandkids the next cruise, there are lots to do with the kids. Read Less

They had a lot of choices but when you have eaten in the restaurants they just don’t compare. The shows were amazing. We fell in love with Howl of the Moon. The atmosphere was so much fun! I love karaoke. I was excited to find out they offered it on the ship. We attended one show. I was disappointed when it came to song selection. Very limited song selection. So small they didn’t carry even the popular karaoke songs. My friend and I did the 6 splurge spa from a free pamper party the spa put on. It is a MUST for all you women.
