I am 42 my wife is 35 we have 160 cruise days on various lines. 2nd ncl cruise and probably the last although who knows. Some great things were the 2 main shows. I don’t care for the music but they were awesome. Same with the Cirque show. Get to the shows 20 minutes early for better seats. Disembarkation was easy we parked across the street for 9 or 10 dollars a night. Left room at 715 in car at private garage by 800 Embarkation was a little slow but leaving our luggage where we did seemed a little shady The weather was awesome and the ports were all enjoyable as well. There was plenty of shade on deck. The ship was clean and the kids scarce. I liked they had the buffet open after we came back from excursions. Also no lines really for the buffet all cruise. The food was ok Atrium game shows were mostly very funny and enjoyable but not enough seating. Felt bad for the activities team and their pronunciation. Like me trying to speak Spanish. Luckily the crowd would always help if needed For some reason they were showing soccer when the LSU Alabama game was on. Everyone was watching on their laptops Included dining service was good only if you went early or late otherwise it was REALLY SLOW. My expectation is 90 minutes to 2 hours. Food was pretty good but not enough variety Besides the 2 main shows we had the same 2 comedians and 1 juggler (who did 2 main shows) for the ENTIRE 9 DAYS. Where is the entertainment???? Bartender s were really busy and not enough servers so mostly I waited and got my own beers Did not do any ship excursions River tube in Jamaica was ok. Not as good as Dunn’s river falls though Grand cayman stingray city and snorkel was awesome Roatan monkey and sloth and snorkel was good. Only had 15 minutes at a beautiful beach see below Belieze we stayed by the pool. Drinks were 15 dollars after tax and gratuity and we had the drink package so we just relaxed and were glad there was not a tender Costa maya we ATV for 90 minutes then went to a nice beach. 100 people trying to sell stuff to everyone The tenders were a downright embarrassment for NCL. I waited about 20 minutes to get off grand cayman then another 20 for the very short ride. Hot but not too bad. Getting back on the line was over an hour so we sat across the street and had a few brews till the line went down. Very hot for older people to wait that long. Very hot in tender boats no windows open very poor drivers. In roatan we waited 2 hours to get off. Excursion was cut short. Got back at 600. Line was 2 hours to get back on. At least it was dark and cooler. So 4 hours of the day was tendering. Still had a good time overall but nothing remarkable. Don’t let bad reviews scare you if your booked just hope for no tendering Read Less

Boyfriend selected it. My first cruise experience. Embarkation in New Orleans was a big mess......traffic, no signage or representatives to direct folks outside the terminal. Recommend taking a cab or ride share service, getting out near Mulate’s restaurant on Convention Center Blvd and simply crossing at Julia St with your luggage as opposed to sitting in traffic for a LONG time when approaching the terminal. If you’re looking for the ‘midnight buffet’ or the lobster dinner at the ‘complimentary’ restaurants, forget it! No such thing! If you select this cruise line and ship, check ahead of time to see if any ports will involve having to use a ‘tender’ boat to go ashore......we had to ‘tender’ at Grand Cayman and Roatan and if you get struck in any group other than A or B, there will be very little time to do much on shore. Shipboard internet ‘packages’ are insanely expensive but in all ports I was able to access limited Sprint cellular and internet on my cell phone (25 cents per minute for calls). A few cable TV stations are available on stateroom TVs but I didn’t find this out until Day 4! Many of the popular music offerings took place in the “Atrium” but the seats are HUGE so the venue cannot accommodate a lot of folks and many people had to stand during performances. For the most part, food was good (variety and taste) in both the Garden Cafe buffet and other ‘complimentary’ restaurants. Also, the vast majority of staff and crew were very friendly, courteous and helpful. Took only one shore excursion, the Bob Marley tour to 9 Miles, Jamaica. Really enjoyed it and it included lunch! Excellent beach day on Harvest Caye, Belize.....plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas and easy access from the ship. At Costa Maya, Mexico, you can catch a local shuttle to the beach for $4 (walk all the way to the far end of the shopping mall to the shuttle lot); return by taxi (share a cab for only $8). Relaxing, although there are many beach vendors and the local restaurants expect you to buy something to eat or drink in order to use their lounge chairs. Read Less

I like NCL this was the biggest ship that I have been on. I a use to the smaller ships around 2 thousand not 4 like this one . There was not enough staff to wait on all of the passages, I waited 45 minutes for a drinks that I order at the pool, with two days at sea before our ship's first port there was not much to do during the day but go to the pool. The food was good at best, they ran out of milk for the buffet at breakfast, and butter on the 5th day of a 9 day cruse. The main one was the tendering if you did not have an excursions then you had to swipe your card and you were given a time to get off the ship. that was a joke When your time was called you went down to the theater. People just went down without a time .when they swiped your card no time came up when you were supposed to go. The tender boats only hold 115 people and the boat I was waiting to get on had over 2 hundred. What is the point of waiting for a time, I know people should be honest, but not in this case. Read Less

I chose this ship simply because it was the only porting out of new Orleans. If i had a chance to pick again. It would've been carnival dream or triumph which is carnival sunrise. The restaurants were basic..the only thing i enjoyed was the pizza. Normally i enjoy all restaurants, but not this go round. The food selection sucked. Oh yeah guys burger was absolutely amazing..including the ice cream was perfect. Customer service was also pretty good. Shows could've been better..ship very small..meaning its not alot to do on sea days besides sleep or casino activities. Maybe a couple raffles here & there. The entertainment was okay for the most part, I've experienced better on other ships. The ship on the 6th day was unbearable because of the rocking of the ship..alot of sea sickness. The biggest upset on my end was the buffet on lido deck. It was awful. Everyone taste bud is different and to each it's own. But i definitely didn't enjoy the food. So that was disappointing because i love trying new thing. Definitely in need of an upgrade. They don't even have "The wok" nor Italian restaurant Read Less

We chose this cruise to get a lifetime experience on the Mississippi River. The advertising of the cruise was very effusive about the standard of the service and the experiences that were to be enjoyed. But, let me tell you what really was experienced. Meals: The restaurant setting is comfortable but crowded. The furniture needs a good clean. The meals were presented in a haphazard style with little appeal to the presented food, it was just placed on the plate. The menu selection on some of the days was appalling. Rooms: Our room was comfortable but included basic furniture. The bed was too short ( I am 179 cm or 5'11") and my feet hung over the end of the bed. The linen was a good quality. Entertainment: This was the highlight of the cruise. Variety and energy were the keys to keeping us entertained. Very good standard of delivery was held throughout the cruise. Gym: A very basic and barely adequate gym and pool is on board. Service: This was the most disappointing aspect of the cruise. After paying $AUS1,000+ per day for a cabin leading onto the veranda, service delivery was very poor. We had to continually request shampoo, soap and other bathroom amenities be maintained. The service in the dining room was appalling. Food was plonked on the table without any of the normal etiquette processes, wine was sloshed into glasses, orders were forgotten, explanation of selections was very poor and there was no continual supervision of the table. Excursions: The complementary shuttle bus service was very welcome and appreciated. Read Less

We choose this cruise as a last minute get away. It was very crowded lots of unsupervised children. My husband was in a hot tub but got taken over by children and got mug shots by parents.. he was only adult. The ships mustard station had us standing outside which was hard on people with small children, and health issues. Someone passed out near us. The hot tubs in the adult area were full and frequently closed. The pool was closed but understood that someone threw up in it. Even though we heard the comic was not that good we went. Saw lots of people get up and walk out.. He really wasn't that good... sorry but we tried and stayed to the end. On another note the 80'S show was very nice and enjoyed. Because we did not think about the timing of the cruise, the lines were very long on the ship. It almost seemed like they were short on staff in many areas. The dinning room hand us completely empty books. Lol he looked very busy and it took a lil while to flag him down to get the menu. We booked a balcony for the first time it was actually the best and we were able to retreat to our room from the crowds. Room steward was great and took care of us. Read Less

My husband and I choose this cruise for our 10 ur anniversary. We have cruised carnival several times but opted for Norwegian this time believing it was an upgrade from carnival. The breakaway is HUGE therefor holding many more passengers than any carnival cruise we’ve been on. Embarkation went very quickly which was a good sign. We were able to immediately get into our room which also was a plus. We had a mid ship family balcony which was fairly well sized but not any bigger than carnival balcony rooms. The bathroom was bigger and had a separate glass shower which was nice. Day one we get into our cabin and there is a notice that you can put clothes out to be pressed and they will be returned the next day. We put a few shirts in and the cabin steward picked them up. We didn’t receive them back until Tuesday after we called three times. Our shower kept backing up and flooding the bathroom, had to call several times to get that fixed and it finally was but only lasted a couple days then it backed up again. There is only two outlets in the room by the counter. If you have two things plugged in it will blow the breaker. Maintenance told me I could only use my straightener for five minutes then turn it off for three. It’s next to impossible to get a drink on the boat even though their are several bars on the ship. The food was better than carnival and there were more choices. The ship is nice and everything was clean. The pool is small and poorly placed, you can only see what’s going on at the pool if you’re in it. Also if you want a shaded deck chair you have to get up super early and save chairs even though you’re not supposed to be aloud too. Our first excursion day I ordered the breakfast to the room. Didn’t get it until it was too late to eat it and they missed half of the order. Needless to say I definitely don’t think it was that much of an upgrade from carnival and I don’t know that we would cruise Norwegian again. I would say there are things carnival can learn from Norwegian but definitely more that Norwegian an learn from carnival. Read Less

We chose this cruise for a family event. We are normally Carnival Cruise guests, but was excited to set sail with NCL. Got the NCL reward credit card and all. They refused to credit the $200 in points. They ran out of Budlight and Ultras and they were often hot when they did have. The mixed drinks and shots were made with watered down alcohol served by bitter bartenders. One of the ports is NCL owned in belize and was more expensive than the other 2 ports with very little to offer. There were 4 to 6 of the staff that made it worth while to rate it a 3. The pool was over crowded. The specialty restaurant was over booked and inaccessible as well as the popular bars and shows. The gym was over crowded and the spa was expensive. Unfortunately I will not be sailing with NCL. Will try Royal next or May just go all inclusive and fly to my destination. Read Less

The ship was refurbished in 2018 but it’s been a very hard 12 months on the old girl, from threadbare carpets, bubbling varnish on the handrails, to rust and bubbling pain she really needs another facelift. The crew doesn’t enforce the no smoking policy throughout the ship and the open smoking in casino permeates the entire ship (really stinks). The muster drill was a total disaster with a couple hundred passengers crammed into the O’Sheaan’s restaurant. There was insufficient seating so over half the passengers had to stand blocking the view of those seated. No one person was giving the instructions and few people could hear or understand the procedures. As for the crew the vast majority were outstanding as always, however our cabin steward was far from satisfactory. He was slow, cleaned the room in a sloppy manner, and while not outright disrespectful he was very indifferent to his job. The entertainment was awesome as usual with the speciality dining packages superb. If I were planning another cruise this wouldn’t be my first pick, I’d go for the Bliss, the Getaway, or even the Pearl. Read Less

The casino smelled horrible!!! Not being able to book comedy show was a disappointment. My cabin was not clean. Moved coffee tray to other side of counter & counter looked like it hadn't been cleaned in several months!! Hand prints on ceiling of our room, Dirt on the walls. We normally tip the room Stewart more, but didn't this time. Soap dispensers not working in several public bathrooms. Seating for games in Atrium sucked. The Rock of Ages Show was very good. The ladies in the concierge dept. were excellent. The food in circus show was awful!! Show catered to children. Food in the steakhouse excellent with excellent service. Was told there were no reservations available by hostess in Italian Restaurant...went to another restaurant to look into Italian reservations & got an immediate reservation for the Italian restaurant. Walked right in & it was empty.???? Read Less

Restaurants were good but the buffet food was bland and not good. We found ourselves purchasing dinner for a good meal. The gym was nice but you had to purchase spa access for $200 to enjoy a steam or sauna. There was no complimentary water and every water fountain has a do not fill your water bottle sign even in the gym. Very little entertainment poolside, slow or absent service. The only show we were interested (Rock of Ages) was cancelled. Lastly, my wife could not use her blow dryer or flat iron without blowing a cabin fuse which would take an hour to get fixed and room service was delevered very slowly and with an 8 dollar charge. We enjoyed ourselves on the cruise and will cruise again. We likely will choose another line that we have cruised in the past. RC and Carnival were more to our liking. Read Less

For the amount of money we paid for this cruise I expected a higher level of service from the staff and more attention to detail. The private Haven area left a whole lot to be desired. The private pool area is a joke, the pool was the size of a plunge pool two people in it would have been too many Also while you're in that Haven pool area there's also dining in that area so while you're trying to enjoy time in the pool or the hot tub you have people trying to enjoy lunch or breakfast staring at you. The area where you can tan in the Haven section is so windy you can barely stay out there, as a matter of fact they actually closed that area one of the days that we were at sea. So you pay all this extra money to have extra services and private areas that you can enjoy and they put them in an area on the ship where you cannot enjoy them at all. That pool area that I was telling you about is inside a Atrium so it's not exposed to the Sun it's only indoors which was not communicated prior to my trip. I have to say the food on the ship was only ok. Not bad but nothing to rave about either. One of the reasons chose Norwegian because I thought that there would be a higher level of food quality on the ship. My husband and I are Foodies. We love good food so we opted to buy the meal packages and do the private dining on the ship where you pay extra. We purchased six meals a piece to be used during dinner. A few of the restaurants were pretty good Cagney's, Le Bistro, were very nice, and had great ambiance. We absolutely loved the Tempenyaki place, we actually ended up going there twice. However on the last night of our cruise even though we bought the dining package we paid extra and went to Ocean Blue. The appetizers were phenomenal but we got lobster dishes for our main course and both my husband and I had cold food, and the lobster was overcooked and actually tasted funny. Neither of us ate the lobster which we paid extra for. In the Haven area I think we were told No more then we were told yes. The private Haven dining room one day was only open till 9:30 for breakfast and we arrive there at 9:31 and got told no we had to go somewhere else because it was closed. Even though there were multiple other people already in the dining room that had not yet received their breakfast and some still had menus. It was disappointing to me, we are a Haven member we paid extra to be in that area and to get turned away for one minute? We had a butler for our room which we barely saw as a matter of fact on the last day when they were giving us our disembarkation information our Butler looked at us with a random strange look on his face because he didn't even recognize my husband. The concierge was supposed to book me excursions, I requested this at about 8:30 in the morning and there were spots still available on the NCL app on my phone, since I had a concierge I asked him to do it for me and did NOT do it so we did not get our Excursion. Instead I got a call at about 7:30 p.m. telling me he's sorry but there were no more spots available when he called. If I would have known that he would not have done it right when I asked I would have just booked it on the NCL at myself and would have been able to have my Excursion. Very disappointed. The overall vibe on the ship from the people that were in a service position, bartenders wait staff, hostess was not one of custimer service. They did not seem care about service. What it seemed like to me is that they knew they were already getting their prepaid gratuities and they just didn't care. The level of service really was so far down below what I expected that it was shocking. I remember one morning in the Haven breakfast area we ordered our breakfast and never once saw our waitress again, somebody different brought our breakfast and never once had anyone check up on me ask me for a refill....just nothing. However the ship itself is absolutely beautiful. There is a lot to do during the course of the day. Multiple activities, bars, restaurants, the casion, art shows, wine tasting. In fact we went to every wine tasting that they had. Chris V. the head sommelier and his wine tasting classes were fantastic! There is a fee for the wine tasting classes but in my opinion they are worth it. They also have a Smirnoff Ice Bar for an additional fee and that was pretty cool as well. I have to say the thing we probably enjoyed the most on this trip or the art auctions. It was fantastic to see all the new and cool artists and we didn't just see art but they taught us about the art as well. There were videos and commentary talking about the artists where their inspiration came from, how they do what they do. It was really the highlight of our trip. Shani H. The Art Gallery Manager was phenomenal. She was patient and attentive to both my husband and I throughout the week and because of her we ended up coming home with quite a few pieces of art. Honestly overall this trip was a decent trip. I think if I didn't pay for the Haven area and been disappointed by the lack of service in the Haven area and the fact that there really wasn't a pool or sunbathing area I probably would have enjoyed the trip better. My disappointment really does come from spending a lot of money for the Haven area and not getting what I thought we would be getting. I do have to say though the best thing that the Haven gives you is you're able to get to the front of the line when boarding the ship, also there's a separate gangway for you to exit the ship at ports and re-enter and then at the end when you are disembarking the Haven area customers get to the front of the line as well. So in reality that kind of pays for the Haven in itself because waiting in lines on cruise ships is absolutely miserable. Read Less

While I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the trip because I did there were many things I didn’t like. First we get to the port and the shuttle drops us off at the carnival terminal because of traffic and we had to wheel our luggage down the street to the Norwegian terminal which was quite a chore for disabled people. We even had a truck hit our bag my husband was pulling. Then with the bad backs and the disability making it difficult to stand very long.. we were in line for over 2 hours past our check- in time. Then we get on the ship and My husband is a smoker and instead of having an open area and smokers on one side & non smokers on another where the fresh open air would disperse the smoke. We felt isolated because like on carnival the deck above the midship swimming pool was smoking on one side and not on the other. NCL put us into a penalty box and were unable to be part of the fun. I wish the shows such as newlywed, etc were done in one of the theaters because there were not enough seats in atrium, and if you were at O’Sheehan’s you had to be able to get a bar stool right along the wall because lf you sat at one of the table in the bar there you couldn’t see, which was very disappointing. If you wanted to sit in the fresh air you can’t smoke except in one small area on the upper deck away from the fun which is not an ideal situation for disabled people that can’t walk very far as it is. While we understand not being able to smoke in the rooms or sitting at the bars it would be nice if smokers wernt made to feel like they weren’t wanted on the ship. It’s like if you smoke we don’t want you to enjoy your cruise. I could not believe all the people I heard say how bad they hated the way they were made to feel like lepers and that they would never set foot on a Norwegian Cruise ever again. The Carney’s steakhouse was great and ocean Blue seafood was amazing! The rooms a very nice and spacious. Be aware some cruise lunes offer free room service and while Norwegians has some free they charge you a “convenience fee” of $7.50 to bring it to you so if you want coffee in the morning it’s gonna cost you. While I’m not sure things are like this on every boat I would be willing to give ncl another chance to try to win our loyalty but it would have to be a great deal. I’m sure this has got to be an exception to the rule surely all Norwegian cruises aren’t the same experience. Read Less

Cruise on NCL many many times. Getting on this ship was awful. The line was at least a mile long. Many many people did not make it on the ship two hours before and there was no information given or help for elderly that had to walk or wait in the hot line. The ship departed late because It took so long to check everyone in. Service for our room was very good. Very clean and always made up timely and we never saw them which is a great thing. It means they always timed cleaning our rooms perfectly. Specialty restaurants were excellent with great service. This is the only ship we have been on that enforced adult pools, hot tubs and areas. THAT WAS THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS SHIP! Water slides and rope walk was great. HOWEVER, the service for drinks on this ship was the worst we have ever experienced. When we were by the pool or in the adult section, we may have been asked if we wanted a drink maybe once a day if that. The friendliness of the staff was blah. We actually overheard a woman giving a complaint to one of the officers and he was really rude to her. We have been on other ships where we have made friends with our drink service person, taken pictures with them, swapped emails, etc. and then of course tipped them extremely well. Never made that connection with anyone on this ship. In the casino, service was even worse. And the layout of the casino is bad. You always felt like you were in the hallway. This ship did not have easy access to the outsides of the ship to walk around outside. If you did make it outside, all you could see were life boats in your face. Balconies in the rooms were extremely small. Food at the buffet was pretty much the exact same every day. We have been on the Dawn many times. I think NCL should make the service employees on that ship mentors/trainers for the Breakaway and the Epic. Those two ships really need help. I went on an excursion in Mexico renting ATVs through the ship on the third day. I received second degree burns on my leg. Filled out a report at the excursion but never heard a word from anyone asking how I was. Will not be going back on the breakaway! Mexico was nice, Belize City was gross, dirty and disgusting, Jamaica was nice. Read Less

Hits- Cleanest ship I have ever been on, Embarkment & Disembarkment is fast and easy...the best I have experienced. The Garden café is well designed with sinks at the entrance and can move large amounts of people through quickly. The ship holds almost 5000 people, but it doesn't ever feel crowded Deck 8 is truly a lovely spot, the Boardwalk is a quiet place to have coffee in morning with a coffee station set up on either side of ship. My favourite spot for sure. Manhatten Dinningroom was such a nice change from the traditional dining with the Big bands playing, or the singers and the dancers. We loved that place. Our waitress Laraeffe was a delight, she was personable and professional, we followed her from Taste and then into the Manhatten as her service was immpeccable. Misses- The main Pool area is way too small for the size of ship, crowded and in some ways very unsafe as people had to move beach chairs because they pack you in like sardines. So a Beach chair was parked right infront of the handicapp bathroom almost everyday. I made several comments to the lady but she ignored me and continued to lay in front of the door. I even mentioned it to staff and they did not ask her to move. Honestly I was shocked. But you see people putting their chairs in front of walkways ect just to get some space. Casino- honestly what were you thinking ??? the location for ventialtion is a health hazard...thats all you can smell regardless of what floor you are on because its an open atrium style. And the Asian Restaurant located right in the middle with children there inhaling the cigarette stink. YUCKKK! although I can't believe familes even took their kids to eat there. Reservation system for shows......FAIL! I booked our shows 3 months in advance and you guys let our seats go 15 min prior to show. We arrived on time only to find out it was full.....NOT happy so nevertheless I never did see Burn the Floor....it would be nice if this was told to one when reserving. Seating in the comedian club, uncomfortable and again not really sure why it was desgnied this way pillars everyway...an epic FAIL Ship clocks were all whacked out, I don't know how many mornings that our clocks inside our room were different than the elevator or port times. They seemed to change them at different times. One morning I awoke went to deck 8 for coffee only to find out after I lost an hour between 6:00 am- 7:00 am who changes times at 6:00 am ??? Pay attention to ship time, would be nice if they spoke about this every morning. The Breakaway is a beautifully decorated ship, but many design flaws...it never felt like you flowed into one space. It felt broken up and isolated on many decks. Lot's of wasted space for Haven guests......their areas were always empty. Margarettaville was dead everyday because of covercharges. My hubby says Gym could be bigger as well. Walking track on deck 15 is in a ridicoulous spot, again probaly the biggest fail. So you had some people walking on deck 8 instead. All in all I of course enjoyed my cruise, my hubby says he prefers the smaller ships, so we will go back to those. Read Less

This was our 6th or 7th NCL cruise (I have lost count), but our first in several years, our first on the larger of NCL's ships, and our first Holiday cruise. Embarkation was fast and efficient, especially when contrasted to 2+ hours standing in line for our September cruise on MSC Meraviglia. Debarkation and re-embarkation at ports was also fast and efficient. We did not have any tendering ports. First day was a bit chaotic, as many discovered that reservations were useful to assure dining times in both main restaurants and shows. After the first day we (party of 2 or 4) were able to walk right in to the main dining room without reservations, except at peak times. Food at the main dining rooms was good, but the days of escargot and lobster are gone. Food at the buffet was good, not great. Our son and grandson are vegetarian, and we found that many dishes were mislabeled, or not labeled at all, and dishes that are commonly vegetarian often were not (fettuccine alfredo, squash soup had added bacon, most salads could have meat to add on the side but instead had it mixed in). Fortunately, grandson can almost live on mashed potatoes. We did not use specialty restaurants, but I heard both rave reviews and comments that main dining room was better. Ship layout had many specialty restaurants and small venues, narrow hallways with passage from forward to aft on decks 6, 7 (through smoky casino), and 8. The 3 deck spiral staircase and chandelier went through the casino, so smoke traveled to all 3 levels. Walls in the commons areas were dark colored with subdued lighting, making for a feel some would call cozy but seemed dingy to me. Venues for the popular shows (game shows, pool parties, Queen tribute, Comedy club) were too small. The 2 main pools were small, but the cold one was never crowded. 4 hot tubs in the main pool area were nearly always crowded. Grandson liked the water slides and harness course, but lines for the course were usually very long. Entertainment was good and bad. Cirque de Solei was good, but pricy at $47.99. The meal was good but not much better than the free main dining rooms. They did offer a vegetarian option, but it was items son and grandson did not like. Small music venues were good, and Howl at the Moon was great. We were rightfully warned that Rock of Ages was for mature audiences, but were still unprepared for the raunchyness of the show. The audience seemed to like Burn the Floor, but to me it was too loud, too fast, to flashy, and too much repetition of the same dance steps with just different costumes. Drink servers and photographers were attentive, but not aggressive and obnoxious as we have experienced on previous cruises. Soft drinks were in cups, not cans. We signed up for the $9.95 pp talk and text cell phone service through the ship's wi-fi system, but it was worse than useless, as it failed to work when we needed it most, and it does not work if you try to share an account. Cabin service was adequate, but far less than any previous cruise - No towel animals, no turn down with chocolate, daily minimal service. At Costa Maya we booked a tour of Chacchoben Mayan ruins with Native Choice. Anthropologist guide Ivan was a local of Mayan heritage, and was OUTSTANDING. Excellent tour. As a manmade Harvest Caye is very well-done, beautiful foliage, nice beaches, ziplines and rope course, local vendors (bring cash or credit card), and the world's best chocolate (chocolate was invented by the Mayas using local cacao). We took the ferry to Placencia to connect with relatives for a nice snorkel trip to Laughing Bird Caye. The only downside was that the passenger ferry left late and returned early for a very abbreviated shore time, as ships tour passengers got priority. Read Less

Service seems to have declined on the ship, especially in the restaurants. Service in Le Bistro was mediocre at best (empty drinks, dirty plates on the table, dinner took 90 minutes due to slow service). Service at Moderno Churrascaria could not have been any worse. Our waiter brought us drinks and didn't come back for over 45 minutes. We had to ask the "meat guys" for drink refills and for missing silverware. The service was truly aweful. At the cost of the Specialty Dining, there just is no excuse for bad service. Service at Cagney's and the main dining room were both wonderful. Service at O'Sheehan's was equally as bad... it was like "once they brought you something" they never came back. It didn't seem to matter if the place was slammed busy or just a few tables, the service was terrible. So now let's address the wonderful Port of New Orleans. What a hell-hole this port is. I'm 48 and have been cruising since I was 12. I'm Platnium on NCL so I've been through numerous ports. Port of NO is by far the worst one ever. First off let's start with the drop-off process. It took our LYFT driver 58 minutes to get from the street entrance to the port to the drop-off spot for NCL. This is crazy but they only have 2 lines for traffic that cars, buses, and even tractor trailers share, and the right-lane is allowed to stop and pickup or drop-off passengers. Certainly the worst configuration I could ever think of and horrible by design. Then you have to give your luggage to "some dudes" near the door where you enter who do not have any identification but "say" they are there to take your luggage... so you just pray your luggage makes it on the ship. Then you go inside... Not only did they not have ANY priority embarkation, one of the best "perks" of being Gold or Platinum, but the process took forever due to poor "crowd herding" and bad design. First there is the Security Check point... a hallway 25' wide and hundreds of feet long "herds" people into two single file lines... this is a mess at best and very slow. Then the 2 single file lines route you into 4 or 5 security check points stations. After you get through security, all security check points "dump" you into a general area that requires everyone to go into a single line yet again, causing people to jump in front of each other and less aggressive and elderly people keep getting pushed back in line. Again, it's a poor design and flow of human traffic. Then you get to the processing area (for your room card) and the single line coming from security brings you to "a guy" who sends you into one of two new snake-lines to get to a human at a computer. There was priority boarding for Haven ONLY, NOT for Gold and Platinum, I asked the NCL guy standing there and he said "Sorry, no priority boarding, you have to get in line like everyone else".. After getting to a human and getting processed, you have to fight across another crowd of people who are waiting in a line to go up the ship just to get to the chairs so you can wait for your boarding group. It's a giant mess. Very poor organization and horrible execution. Thankfully our cabin was very nice, our room steward was fantastic. We enjoyed the cruise and ports of call but the restaurant service & New Orleans ports will make is consider other ports of departure and other cruise lines. Our same cruise itinerary on Carnival is $1400 less (for 2 people with a balcony). I really don't feel like I received $1400 worth of "increased value" by going with NCL. It's a shame because I have been on more than 15 cruises with NCL and I'm a Platinum member. Read Less

My partner and I were very excited to travel on one of Carnival’s larger, “newer” ships. Our first cruise was Carnival Conquest in May 2017. This was a disappointment for both of us compared to Conquest. Dream seemed too large for its crew to cope with. Service was severely impersonal, though most crew was at least cordial. At embarkation, a person who I assume works for Carnival at the port of New Orleans was on a microphone trying to direct people, demanded to see my boarding pass over her microphone and chastised me for being behind another guest over the microphone to the entire queue of people outside. I was pretty embarrassed by her awful attitude. Then no porters were around to take our luggage that we could find. Microphone lady rushed us inside and we had to carry our suitcases on and wait with them for about 1.5 hours on in both the crowded boarding area and deck 3 before we could get our stateroom. Maintenance in certain areas like decks and pools was handled by one person in any area it appeared, so a lot of time elapsed between cleanings or upkeep. Only the port side Serenity deck whirlpool was “hot” for the entire cruise. The aft starboard whirlpool was temperate, and every other whirlpool was about 90° or lower. In the dining room, we were often left without certain items on the table and had to ask for the wait team to bring them to us, meals were badly cooked (very tough, over cooked prime rib one night), but we did have two really great servers on different teams. Upon returning to the ship at our last port, our cabin door’s lock died and couldn’t read our S&S cards. Guest services had to replace them, and then we returned when that didn’t work, and maintenance had to change batteries and reprogram twice, as first maintenance still had us locked out later when we left the room. Shows were fine. Only the 80’s Pop To the Max was outstanding, though. The cast couldn’t seem to stay on key in the other shows we went to. The comedians were pretty funny in the adult shows most nights, but the Burgundy lounge has many “blind spots,” where you can’t see the stage, so get there 30 minutes early for a decent seat. The laundry facility was alright for washing ($3, drying is free). The ironing boards and irons were a bit confusing and felt cheap/shoddy. Another guest had to give us a tip on how to use the iron as there were no instructions. For good things: air in the cabin worked well. A couple cool nights we had to use the heater for, and warm nights the AC worked fine. The cabin was good sized, and felt about as big as our interior cabin on Conquest, and bathroom was the same. Disembark was so much better than off Conquest in May 2017! Breezed right out through Customs with a quick check of ID’s. Our cruise director Alex was GREAT! Very friendly and fun. Always nice to see him around the ship when we were walking around. We didn’t do the LGBT mixer, but guests and staff we met seemed mostly friendly with us as a gay couple. So I would say it was an LGBT friendly environment. Read Less

We had read all the reviews possible prior to boarding on December 6th and we feared the worst. As we walked to board we asked a couple how they liked their cruise. They responded "fantastic." The embarkation process actually went quite well. There was the usual excitement while in the lines and it wasn't long before we had found a high table in O'Sheehan's, and ordered drinks and chicken wings. We were on this journey with 2 other couples. This was our ninth cruise, one couple was on their fifth while the other couple was on their first. They soon joined us and we enjoyed each others company. Then it was time to explore the ship, before they delivered luggage to the room. The room was nice, but small, & the deck even smaller. We did like the little larger than usual, bathroom. The bed was pretty good, other than the usual separation that happens between the two, but the pillows were hard and terrible! We finally found some storage under the couch, two large drawers. The room service, and overall service on board, was about average. If you need hair conditioner, be sure to take some, as it is not provided, except in a shampoo mix. Take some! On board activities were sparse. Trivia, always won by the same group, that could be seen using their devices! Only a couple of crafts, & those were Origami folding in areas to small to accommodate everyone. The ship didn't have many cool areas to enjoy, as many other ships do. Boring! Prior to sailing we had made reservations in 4 specialty restaurants, 2 shore excursions and 2 of their nighttime entertainment shows. We never went to either of the shows. One excursion to Sting Ray City was cancelled, as well as the tender transportation to George Town, Grand Cayman. The specialty restaurants were fine except for the Brazilian one, all the meats were so over done or unattractive that it was very disappointing, so much so that we immediately cancelled a future reservation at that same outfit. We dined mostly in the Manhattan for dinner and the Taste for lunch with many trips around the Garden Buffet. Our night at Ocean Blue was a pleasant experience. We had a table outside and the service and meal were very good. The Japanese restaurant was enjoyed by our entire group and they sure put on quite a show. Cagney's Steakhouse was also very good. We weren't shy about going to the sit down side of O'Shehans, the wings were very good as was the nachos. Service on the bar side was very poor. Before the cruise we had read to stay away from the high table side, those remarks were right on the mark. Service inside was very good. Speaking of good service, on level 6 in the main area the bar service was very friendly and several of the bartenders were exceptional. Our first port was Cozumel. We've been there before and unless you go past the cruise ship shopping center there's not much to rave about. Rotan Bay, Honduras was next, The one street to walk, past the usual cruise ship shopping area, was narrow and was very run down. A quick glimpse of why the locals would love to leave. However, as the ship was departing the people waved goodbye to us, it seemed a very sincere display. We next docked at Harvest Caye, {Belize} NCL's little Disney like transformed island. We enjoyed our walkabout and never had to spend a dime. One person in our group thoroughly enjoyed the three zip lines. One couple took a ferry ride to a nearby island, they seemed to like the experience. Costa Maya was next. They keep enlarging their cruise ship shopping area. They've added some entertainment as people stroll by. Make no mistake, this area is packed. People crammed into the mall. When you unload 15,000 people at once it's got to be a little crowed. One lady with us found the fish eating your feet stand, to be well worth the $20. George Town, Grand Cayman was to be our next adventure. Hanging out with the sting rays in their very own city. There were early rumors that some of the excursions had already been cancelled and more might be. About then the Royal Caribbean ship next to us began tendering it's passengers into town. Soon it was announced that we would not disembark, that it was to choppy, and it would be off for Jamaica. Each passenger was awarded $22.00 for the reroute. Very disappointing, we were really looking forward to that stop. Ocho Rios Jamaica where we docked is a busy area. 3 huge ships, oh boy!! Our guide seemed to be somewhat informative on our bus ride to the rapids for our tubing ride.. Any people skills she had were short lived. After an enjoyable tubing down the river, we were off to Bamboo Beach. We were taken to our beach area and instructed to stay in our area. Soon people from another ship, were squeezed into our small space, get up & lose your dirty, old seat. Our four course lobster meal was a joke. 3 skimpy apps and a lobster you wouldn't pay for, hard & chewy. Oh yes, & there were ants everywhere, even on the food dishes. Other guides were continuously refreshing their guests drinks. Our guide disappeared and sent someone else in to try and sell $10 drinks of something. What a rip off for a $150 or so, excursion!! Stay away from, BAMBOO BEACH! The mini golf course onboard was very nice. The casino has an $80 texas hold em tourney every now and then. You get 2,000 in chips, lots of rebuys and/or re entries so you know what that means. The slots were always in heavy use, without much payouts. If smoke bothers you it might be best to avoid the casino. If you do find a spot kinda smoke free you can count on the fact someone will appear next to you quickly and light up a cigarette. In retrospect the cruise was better than expected. In closing it should be noted that there was a day onboard, toward the end of the cruise, that we noticed the salt and pepper shakers were missing from the tables at the buffet. That was a clue, the beginning of the dreaded norovirus! People were seen visiting urgent care in New Orleans after we docked. And even three days later after we got home the symptoms were apparent and we were, & are excellent washy washy washers. Read Less

Chose this cruise because of the convenience of the Port and we love Cozumel and it was the first Port on this itinerary. We are not a huge fan of mega ships and this itinerary was overbooked due to the Thanksgiving holiday making lines very long. The ship is really quite beautiful inside. The deck plans provided could provide more detail as to the location of various dining venues and bars. We had a fantastic cabin steward who maintained our cabin in an immaculate way and made himself available should we have a special request. Many people, including ourselves, were disappointed to learn that unless you pre-reserved dining and entertainment for the week, you were out of luck as everything was fully booked. We attended the Meet & Greet, which we appreciate NCL providing, but in this instance, cruise critics were told there would be no question/answer session as "they [officers] would be there all afternoon..." That was a first for us. Being Platinum Plus passengers, we are entitled to concierge service. The extension for the concierge was nowhere to be found & we were not provided with it. I stood in line for 45 minutes to make a dining time change and obtain the concierge ext but was told I would need to obtain that info from guest services and stood in that line 39 minutes. Guest Services acted like it was a big deal to release that to us but we did receive it. The concierge was able to make a modification in the time for our dining. We were disappointed in the food at LeBistro. The Bouillabaisse no longer has muscles or squid in it, only a variety of fish and shrimp. The mushroom soup had no texture to it but was tasty. LaCucina was amazing and we dined there twice. We were not impressed with the appetizer bar at Moderno and the meat and chicken were dry and over cooked, but service was excellent. Ocean Blue was simply amazing from start to finish and we cannot wait to dine there again. We went to see Burn the Floor and it was great entertainment. We also enjoyed Wine Tasting the Musical and it was not only entertaining but the food and wine was delicious, perfectly timed, the show humorous and we sat with three other couples and had the best time! Highly recommend both. We didn't see much piano type music on this cruise and missed that a lot. We enjoyed Harvest Caye immensely and found it easy to find chairs despite the number of guests. The island is beautifully maintained and the water and sand were perfect in every way. We felt there should be more pools. There is one located in the children's section and the adult pool was small for such a large ship and always crowded so we never got in it. There were long waits to be served at the bars and waiters were seemingly in short supply. In order to obtain the yellow platinum luggage tags, standing in a long line was again required and the debarkation process was disappointing. We saw tags of many colors (purple, green) in the line to debark when only two had been called, yellow and brown. There was no priority debarkation for platinum/plus guests made available to us. I asked if the long line we were in was for priority/yellow tags and I was flatly told "yes". The folks ahead of us with luggage tags not yet called disembarked in front of us without any difficulty. So to me that meant the color tag you chose or requested meant nothing really. Now that we have experienced this beautiful ship and what you really need to know before you sail, we are being more proactive in reserving even the main dining room! We will sail her again in December a bit more savvy. All in all, despite the not so favorable experiences, we had a good time. Read Less

I think if you are paying $ 90.00 per person per day you should be able to expect to be served in a reasonable amount of time ... 15-20 minutes waiting every time ... the talk among other guests was nothing short of complete disappointment ... perhaps they should consider hiring more experienced bartenders for every bar ... let's face it most people want to spend their time on a cruise NOT waiting in a long line .. Harvest Caye was also disappointing ... a man made village that resembles Disney ... An interesting Port Of Call it definetley was not ... We have traveled on the Carnival Cruise line several times. This cruise has left some experiences that were not up to par. We purchased the Faster to the Fun excursion... we paid 70.00. However we were detained by 2 hours with boarding the ship due to maintenance. The workers at the Port of New Orleans left a lot to be desired.. very unorganized... we had our check in scheduled for 11:30 and were not able to board until 2:15.. arrived to our Cabin which was in great condition... cabin steward was not very attentive. Rarely saw him.. unlike previous cruises.. Carnival has changed their policy. They will only enter your cabin once a day.... We were celebrating our anniversary and husband ordered flowers.. guest services advised that I could take off ship at disembarkment however security told me I couldn’t. Had to throw away... entered Paris dining room for breakfast the day in Cozumel . service was horrible.. took 10 minutes before we were acknowledged and we ordered the Shore Day Express breakfast (you are supposed to be in and out in 25 minutes). It took 30 minutes to get food that was cold, served on wilted lettuce.. bacon was bits and pieces... waiter apologized for being slow... I called Carnival Guest Services when I got home. I was told that I should have read the conditions and exclusions to Faster to the Fun that they do not have to refund any of the few if we are delayed due to maintenance of the ship... apologized for the subpar service. Explained about the roses that we had to leave behind, I stated that they should have some verbiage about how you will not be able take off at embarkation and could not offer a reply except I am sorry. Gave us a $25 on board credit for future cruise.. Will we cruise Carnival again... Yes... In our opinion we think that the cruise staff may be in training on the Triumph... lack of speaking and understanding English seemed to be experienced by a lot of passengers... Postive points from cruise.... we had a great time, Sunday night they showed the Saints game on the screen on the lido deck, Cabin was comfortable.... you get what you pay for.. we got a great last minute deal... however it was very relaxing getaway. This was what we picked for our honeymoon and we were very disappointed. Numerous factors came in to play that could have made our trip better but as it was, we may never cruise again. This was my husbands first cruise and my second. Which my first cruise was amazing and I have no complaints. Embarkation was very, very quick and smooth. Even with the long line of people I was amazed by how fast they got everyone on the ship. Our Cabin was fine, no complaints besides the horrible television selection. Dinio our steward was wonderful. Always smiling and friendly. Dining...We truly looked forward to dinner every night. That, I think, was our favorite part of the trip. IGusti, Benni, and Ana were a well oiled machine. Dinner service was always very quick and with a smile. We shared every evening how each of our days were and loved getting to know the crew. As for buffets, they were average. Plenty to choose from and some items were wonderful and some not so great. Guys burgers made us sick the first day of the cruise which really set the mood for the rest of the week. Needless to say we didn't try that again. We never got to try the Ancor BBQ, it was only open one day that I know of and the line was awful. Entertainment was okay. The Flying Scottsman was however amazing and did well getting everyone involved and up beat. Another favorite of our was the Love and Marriage show. I could have went to another one of those during the trip. We laughed so much we cried. We missed alot of the shows because of timing. Our dinner was late so alot of times it interfered with shows. We would either have to rush through dinner or we would have to leave early and miss the ending. I did not enjoy the vocalist at all in the lobby. There was one male that was okay but the rest were awful. We loved Passion Island in Cozumel even though they cut our trip short because the water was getting rocky. It was very relaxing and well worth the money. We didnt do any other excursions unfortunately. The very one thing we had our hopes up to do was in Honduras and due to weather conditions, which I understand, they were unable to dock the boat so we had to go back to Cozumel. Other things added in to our horrible trip...due to timing we had to go during spring break which meant there were tons of kids and only one adult only area that I was aware of which was always full. (The casino even had children roaming through and lingering around) Normally that wouldnt bother me so much but young kids were unsupervised all over the ship and were VERY rude. They would make videos in the stairwell and then get mad when you walked down the steps. They would cut you in food lines to catch up to their other siblings. They took up all of the hottubs and pools during the day so you couldnt swim. The pools were supposed to stay open until midnight and the crew would close almost every night by 9pm. The last port we decided to stay on the ship and enjoy the pools since everyone would be off at excursions and low and behold they were closed. I had my last straw after a Pixel crew member was rude to us while playing cards. I went to Guest Services to talk to someone about my complaints and concerns and basically was told to deal with it. There were a few things out of their control which I understand but they should enforce better supervision of children. I would never let my 6 year old roam around a boat that large by himself. I was not the only one complaining about the rude children either. It seemed to be an issue on our cruise. Also I think the pools constantly being closed down with 4000 people on a boat was ridiculous. He gave no explanation just that they have to clean it. They had it closed our whole last day at sea and only started to fill it up at night when we started back up the river toward New Orleans. Im not sure I will cruise with Carnival again. The Guest Services did not feel like there was an issue with any of my complaint so maybe I am just not meant to cruise. DONT CRUISE DURING SPRING BREAK FOR A HONEYMOON! Read Less
