Awesome Ship, crew, suite

Review for a Cuba Cruise on Zhao Shang Yi Dun (Viking Sun)

We wanted to see Cuba. And, we were able to get a good view of the city, the countryside, and some of the people. The highlights were primarily three: One, the vintage cars, and our riding to dinner and the Copacapana was so much fun, Two, the owner's suite aboard the ship was TO DIE FOR! Exquisite, luxurious, with the most accomodating crew. We invited a group of CruiseCritic travelers to ...

My wife and I have always wanted to visit Cuba but for most of our lives it has not been possible for U.S. citizens. When it finally became possible, we jumped on it. We have been on many Viking cruises, both ocean and river. The reason we keep coming back is because Viking is the Rolls Royce of cruise lines. We love everything about Viking and will continue to cruise with them as long as our ...

Nicely Done!

Wanted to do Cuba again since my wife missed out on our last opportunity and this seemed like a reasonable option. Classy. We liked that there are no formal nights. No children is a definite plus. No charge for specialty restaurants. Spa is very nice. I was a bit disappointed in the itinerary. I do not know why we could not have overnighted in Havana instead of having to spend hours on the ...

Viking Sun-Lovely, Cienfuegas-Not So Much

1. We chose this cruise because it was going to 4 ports including Havana. Itinerary changes made it considerably less desirable: day in Key West and 3 night stay over in Cienfuegas. Cienfuegas is worth one day. I do not fault Viking for these changes, but it was not the trip we hoped for. 2. We were not docked in port but had a 15-minute tender to Cienfuegas. 3. For reasons unclear, most ...

I wanted to see Cuba and it's turbulent past before the changes of time. The dining experience was excellent.the service personnel always friendly and courteous ....we enjoyed the Chef's Table selection and the Italian choices. My mate liked especially the Market Place Cafe where we had all breakfasts, some lunches and if he could have, dinner. I never surprised me to see the perfectly ...

Cuba Nightmare

Cuba. If you decide to travel to Cuba, do not take Viking cruise. I am a big fan of Viking but they did their passengers a disservice by landing at Cienfuegos. To get to Havana, we were onboard a bus on uneven, rocky highways for almost eight hours there and back. And, Havana is what you most want to see in Cuba not Cienfuegos. I loved Havana - the Hemingway House, the historic squares and ...

We have enjoyed a number of Viking cruises in the past and I especially wanted to return to Havana. This trip, however, was extremely disappointing. The food and drinks on board were under par and in some cases very bad. (Twice I was served drinks with spoiled ingredients.) The logistics of transporting us to shore and around the country were uncomfortable and unpleasant. We realize that certain ...

Great Ship and Staff

Originally booked this cruise about 9 months in advance. The main reason was that it was going to spend a day in Havana and we wanted to see Cuba. I had heard nothing but good about Viking's river cruises and they were beginning to break into ocean cruising with new state of the art ships. We are older travelers. The fact that the minimum age was 16 and that these boats do not have Casinos was a ...

Is Viking Expanding to Fast?

We chose this cruise because my sister in-law thought it would be fun to see Cuba. We made our reservation in September 2016, over a year before the cruise. In August of 2017 Viking informed all the passengers that they never received permission to dock in Havana. This means they sold us a cruise when they did not have permission to dock in Havana/Cuba. Viking informed us/passengers that they ...

Outstanding Cuba Trip

We did not explore Miami before this cruise, as we have done this at other times. Both embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly as we booked the airfare with Viking and they cover all the details. The ship was wonderful. Cruising on a smaller ship is always a treat. The itinerary had to be changed from the time we booked to the day we embarked. We were to go to Mexico and Belize on this ...
