Did a lot of walking and enjoyed seeing Havana's neighborhoods. Streets and sidewalks are very hazardous with lots of potholes and cracks and missing pieces.

We did not take an excursion and ventured out on our wons which was fabulous. I felt safe and the people were very friendly. We speak Spanish but many spoke good English. If I were to do it again I would have liked two days in Cuba and I might have taken an excursion had I more time there. Surprisingly the Cigars are quite expensive so do not promise to bring back any unless you are willing to spend 100 dls on a box or 6-10 individually. Everything else was very reasonable. I also had run out of money and had no idea we could have gone back on the ship and come back off. I thought once we left that was it. We had an amazing time. We also had a mojito and a daquiri and never got sick from the ice. Read Less

It's an experience that can't be matched. Even though I would love to go back and spend more time, the small amount of time we spent there was great. We went to the show at the Tropicana - skip the meal if you book it direct

Booked our own excursion with Old Car Tours (via Trip Advisor). We saved $170 by booking direct vs. through NCL. We got to choose any of their available cars, whether convertible or hard top, and the option to add an English speaking tour guide. The tour lasted three hours and we got to see everything we wanted to see, and more! One shopping tip, the Almacenes San Jose Artisan Market is about 1/2 mile (10-min walk) to the left of the port is this huge warehouse full of vendors selling souvenirs, arts and crafts, and lots of beautiful artwork. Definitely a must see! For my fellow disabled cruisers, Havana was a little challenging if you're in a WC or a scooter. The main plaza in front of the terminal is all cobblestone, and of course, you'll be on a sidewalk that just ends without a ramp. Read Less

I already rated my experience in my narrative. I recommend Parisien Cabaret it was fantastic, and Hemingway tour (even though we didn't go to Cojimar). The Rum, Cigar, Art tour was okay - the El Tocororo Restaurant was the highlight.

Total time was over 2 hours as Louis our guide stopped at all the good bars for drinks and pictures etc.... he was awesome. We tipped him $60 , he liked that lol. Well worth $90 for a days fun! 2nd day in cuba we walked around, got lost, so fun getting lost. Then when our feet hurt and we were tipsy we got in some bicycle rickshaws and they drove us back to port. Read Less

Visited Hemingway's home outside the city. The setting is beautiful and the house is exactly the way Hemingway left it in 1960--down to the magazines and newspapers in the rooms. Nice to see a bit of the countryside, too.

Walking tour through four city squares and several streets near the port, then a bus ride to a market for souvenir shopping. Guide was competent and spoke English well.

Bus ride to Hemingway's home on Havana outskirts, then return to Old Havana to see the hotel where he lived before buying the house. A visit to Cojimar was advertised but canceled a few days before the tour.

We opted not to do the NCL excursions in Cuba and do not regret it. However, we are in our 30's, adventurous, frugal, and I am bilingual. If I were older, I may have opted to do an air conditioned bus tour with NCL. We did not plan anything in advance, we just got off the ship, a man on the street offered us a classic car tour for $60 for 1 hour, and we took it. We loved it. Granted, the driver didn't speak much English, so I translated for my husband. When we were done, we walked around Old Havana and went to several museums (Museo de la Revolución was really interesting). We asked for receipts everywhere we went, since the US government *might* ask for them later. Some advice- bring a water bottle. It is hot (like 90 degree hot) in Havana, and humid. You can bring an empty one and fill up with filtered water on the boat to save money. Also, bring a baggie full of nickels and dimes for tips (or more if you can afford it). Literally everyone in Cuba wants a tip. They don't care how much it is. Don't let any Cuban take your picture unless you're prepared to tip them. Don't go to the bathroom in Cuba unless you're prepared to tip the bathroom attendant. At one point all I had in my purse was a dime, and put it in the bathroom attendant's basket and she was very grateful. The tipping got a little old, and my husband and I were running out of money fast. Another tip- it's easy to get on and off the ship, so go back to the ship for lunch and dinner to save some money. The port is right in the middle of Old Havana, so it's close to everything. Some people may want to try authentic Cuban food on the island, but the boat was serving Cuban food the entire time we were there. I didn't taste a difference between the Cuban food on the boat, and the food in a restaurant there in Havana. In the evening, we thought about going to one of the big shows, like Tropicana or Buena Vista Social club, but opted to save some money and find a local restaurant with live music. They are everywhere in Old Havana. We sat back and had a couple of mojitos and enjoyed the music. Mojitos are only $2.50 in Old Havana. The next day, we took a $10 cab ride to the forts and had a great time. One nice thing about Havana is that all of the museum admission prices are fairly low. I think we usually paid around $3 apiece. The most we paid was $8 apiece. Read Less
