We were very disappointed with our cruise with the Norweigan Star. It was a 10 day crusie. We found a bed bug on our bed the second night. The staff claimed it is not a bed bug. The only person that apologized to us was Kristine the room attendant. Everyone else dismissed the issue and acted like nothing happened. We had to push them to wash our clothes for us free (after asking 4 times). Also after pushing they offered to move us to their "only available" room. It was 11pm at night and we had 2 kids with us, no offer to help us move. And the room had a horrible loud humming sound. I have worked in hotels for 20 years and have done a lot of trainings and it definitely looked like a bed bug. Even if it's wasn't and was "just a bug that looks like one" as the housekeeping supervisor said, it was still a bug in our sheets. The team checked the room again the next day and found no more bugs. However none of us slept well worrying about what was in our bedding . We normally cruise with Royal Caribbean and have never once had an issue with them. We won't sell with NCL again. We chose NCL because my wife and I wanted to visit Portugal and Guernsey. My daughter has dreamed of going to Paris for years. All three of these locations were removed after booking. We know this was because of things outside of your control, but again no apologies nor empathy nor compensation given. Only a "Oh and by the way" at the bottom of an email. (They did appologize for the Guensey cancellation but no compensation or alternatives offered. No port fees reimbursed.)

On top of these issues the food was not great and was repetitive. We were charged $15 per person for the shuttles out of the ports, Princess and Holland does these for free I found out after the fact. Also, the onboard internet is horrible. We paid $200 and our kids couldn't even connect to do their school work becuase EVERYTHING accept for facebook and google is blocked. When bringing it up we are told we have to pay another $100 to watch school videos. No apologies or recommendations again.

I work in hospitality and normally never complain because I know the otherside very well. However, I train my staff to follow LEARN: Listen Empathize Apologize React and Notify. Your team has done none of these (accept for Kristine our room attendant) We have been looking forward to this cruise for months. And now all 4 of us wish we had never come. What a shame. My wife said she feels like a child that no one believes or cares about her. My son and daughter started keeping track "Strike 3, 4, 5 for Norwegian" They are kids and should enjoy their vacation, not keeping tally of the problems.

Port Reviews

Bilbao

We explored outside the museum and the old town. NCL charged $15 per person for round trip for shuttle.

Brugge (Bruges)

We loved Bruges. Did our own tour using Crusie Express just outside the port terminal and also did a canal tour in town.

La Coruna

Best port and port terminal since the ship actually stops at the town. All other stops were far from the cities. We took a $6 taxi to the tower of Hercules which was really cool and then explored the town by the port. Really good bakery.

La Rochelle-La Pallice

Very pretty town and pier. Another $15 per person for bus ride out of the port. They were not prepared for the return trip and there was an hour long wait.

We took the bus into Solauc. Sleepy little beach town. Feel bad for those planning on going to Bordeaux becuase thr port crane was 3 hours late to put out the gangway.
