We booked this cruise to celebrate our venture into being empty nesters. We wanted complete and utter relaxation, great food and luxurious treatment...we got everything we asked for, and more. We arrived in Florida the day before, stayed with family and headed to the port early Sunday morning. We arrived just about 10am, had a minimal wait to get through security, more because the large group in front of us had struggles with passports and paperwork and less because of the port personnel. We easily found the Haven checkin location - it is literally immediately after security to the left. We entered, had a short wait to check in, longest part of check in came when the young man had to leave the room to go reprint one of our key cards, because it wasn't working. We then waited about 5 minutes and were escorted upstairs. We waited there for about 20 minutes and were escorted onto the ship. We went up to the Haven for a quick orientation, dropped our bags in our room (wasn't quite ready to park in, but we were allowed access), and headed to Margaritaville for lunch. Our lunch at Margaritaville was our least memorable. I was not impressed. The service was wonderful, the food was ok, and the atmosphere quiet, but with so much really good included food on board, we weren't drawn to go back. Our favorite dinners: Ocean Blue, Le Bistro and the Haven Restaurant. Excellent meals and service at all three. Cagneys service was disappointing, server smelled like cigarette smoke and was late getting to our table. Service was perfunctory and terse, not friendly or engaging even slightly. It was the first night and early, clear they were having execution issues, but thankfully for the rest of the cruise, service in all restaurants was as expected and much better than Cagneys that first night. The Haven is an amazing experience. We will definitely pay extra for this level of experience again, although there is a line to its value. We had a very good price, and were quite pleased with the value for us, even though it is a bit pricier than were usually spend per person for a vacation. Parts of the Haven experience that I felt raised the bar and increased value: 1. A dedicated restaurant for all meals in the Haven area where were could quietly eat without reservations or waiting, receive top notch service regardless of time of day and get a variety of items. While the menu remained the same for each meal, the choices encouraged you to try different things from each menu at different meals. 2. Concierge assists with disembarking, ports, reservations, clarifying issues, communicating issues with guest services and just generally helping to streamline the experience. 3. A butler who cares for any whim you have...food or beverage, or room related. Charlie kept us happy with afternoon gluten free BLT, a fridge with soy milk and tons of coffee...breakfast in bed, dinners on our balcony. You name it, he would do it. Perfect blend of being ever present and completely unobtrusive! 4. A dedicated bar and bar staff in the Haven lounge...made excellent beverages and worked to learn who you are and what you drink, even depending on the time of day 5. The private Haven area... true ship within a ship. Honestly, there is no need to leave the area if you don't want to, absolutely lovely space, but easy to wander off to shows and casino and then return to the Haven for quiet winding down at night. And then the highlight of our trip...if it could get better...we did two NCL excursions. Jolly Roger snorkeling in Roatan, excellent reef and great crew of guys. And then flying to Chichen Itza in Cozumel...this is by far our absolutely most memorable part of our trip outside the Haven experience...amazing to be able to see these ruins and to do so in a way that was not riding on a bus for hours in a crowded setting. Amazing excursion! We are already looking at booking our next cruise...for our anniversary. We tried to get Cruise Next for Haven and wanted to book on board, but the cruise next employees were unhelpful on how the Haven certificates work and we decided against it because we couldn't get a straight answer on cost.

Cabin Review

The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony
Cabin H5 16110
This is a perfect cabin for a romantic trip for two. The bed is extremely comfortable and comes with very soft bedding. We asked for additionally hypo allergenic pillows from the precruise concierge and they were on the bed when we arrived. The room had a decent amount of storage for two...only two issues with storage: 1) not much space for our own snorkel gear and 2) the safe will not hold anything bigger than a phone/wallet/passport. iPads were too big. There was a bit of noise from the sun deck upstairs, but we only noticed it a few times, and sounded more like something occasionally banging in the wind when the ship was really cruising rather than just regular people noise. We were right across the hall from the Haven lounge, restaurant and courtyard, making this a perfect spot to hang out when we didn't want to venture downstairs. Our butler Charlie was phenomenal!
