BACKGROUND: DW and I wanted one more chance to enjoy a bit more warm weather and utilize our new Platinum rewards so we booked the 11 day NCL Jade repo from NYC to MIA.
NYC: We flew into LGA on the day of the cruise from Syracuse (45 minute flight) and met the cruise reps to board the shuttle to the pier. The shuttle ride was a tad expensive BUT since there was extensive construction, we decided it was better to have NCL worry about getting us to the pier than try to do it ourselves. We arrived at the pier about 2:00 PM. Hey,.at least we got there.
EMBARKATION: By the time we got to the ship and dropped off our bags, the lines were non existent. The actual check in at the counter was no problem and no one checked for booze or water or anything else. The photogs were packing up their gear so there were no pictures taken…. No great loss for us! There was some sort of Noro outbreak on the previous cruise so the cabins were being “deep cleaned” and not ready so we waited on the steps of our deck. Around 3:00 when the cabins were ready, we dropped off our bags, went to the muster drill and then had lunch at O’sheehan’s. Embarkation was not enjoyable but it could have been worse. Embarkation = Neutral
This newly renovated starboard aft cabin is near elevators & the stairs. It is adequate in size as is the shower area. The bed was comfortable, the balcony was not large but a great place to comfortably read and watch sunsets. The toilet area is quite small and tight to say the least. The storage areas are more than needed especially if you put some suitcases under the bed. TV has limited channels but there are 2 movie channels. There were three 110 volt AC outlets on the walls and two USB outlets for charging phones, tablets etc underneath the lights on the sides of the bed. You can plug a night light into the shaving outlet in the bathroom which is a nice thing if/when there is a need to use the “facilities” during the night.
ACTUALLY we went to Punta Cana. BUT there is no option on here for choosing Punta Cana - prob since it replaced San Juan just before the cruise. We did the Punta Cana Cruise and Snorkel excursion through Scape Park. Good snorkeling for novices - a mediocre experience for those with more experience (but at least it was a chance to get wet). Good crew and large boat so there is plenty of room. The snorkel area is large enough so people aren’t bumping/swimming into one another. The rum punch was pretty good also.
