I am so happy we decided to explore Alaska but I wish I had chosen another cruise line. I HATE sounding like a complainer but when something isn't right it needs to be said.

Embarkation was smooth. The process was easy and one of the fastest I have experienced. When we got onto the ship our cabin B748 (aft balcony) was ready. Our room steward, Maria, introduced herself and was an absolute joy. I cannot say enough. She always had a beaming smile, kept the room tidy and was attentive to us. When I was sea sick one day she expressed concern. Cabin was fine. Standard cruise bathroom. Balcony was amazing, as an end cabin this was an oversized aft balcony with views port side and aft. This is an amazing cabin for Alaska. Sailing out of Skagway was a site to behold. Closet space was excellent, most I have had on a cruise. Bed faces portside.

On embarkation day we were directed to the buffet. Disgusting. Seriously, I don't even know what else to say about it. Limited food choices which seemed to cater to the inner five year old picky eater. Food was COLD, lacked flavor and was overall an amazing disappointment. This really set the tone for what would come to be a series of either inedible or just "meh" meals aboard the Ruby. Seriously, that first day was the strangest combination of foods. Dry brisket with no sauce, mac and cheese that seemed boxed... It was embarrassing! The buffet never improved. I kept feeling like there had to be another room I was missing, but I wasn't. Every day was limited choices, cold food and just sad. One day there were nachos but it was just chips and salsa, there was no cheese or other toppings. Food in general on this cruise was subpar. Look, if you want to serve mac and cheese and chicken tenders just make sure they're well executed and I will eat them, but don't give me cold garbage. Food in the main dining rooms was better, but not great. Presentation was always lovely but I think the chef just forgot to use salt. All of the food was bland, oh, except for when it was seasoned with curry and other Indian flavors. Don't get me wrong, I like some Indian food but when you get a dish that has nothing to do with Indian food and it is full of curry, it's off putting. I would avoid Princess in the future on the food alone. But wait, there's more!
