We chose this particular cruise for the itinerary. We had not previously cruised New England and parts north. After reading mixed reviews for the Carnival Sunshine, we decided to go for it...and we are happy that we did.
The embarkation process in NYC was a breeze. We were on the ship, unpacked (had Faster to the Fun so cabin was ready), and having lunch by noon.
The Sunshine's decor is bright and cheerful without being gaudy. The upgrades provided many dining options - Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina, Havana Cafe, Ocean Plaza, JiJi's, Bonsai Sushi and Cucina del Capitano.
Our inside cabin lacked a few comforts that we had previously thought were standard in Carnival's cabins - night stands by the bed, mini refrigerator, and a chair on which to sit when in the cabin, but we adapted. The bed was very comfortable, closet space was adequate, lighting was good, and Fitzroy, our cabin steward, was the best we've had in a long time!
Embarkation in NYC was very efficient.
Had a great time just walking through downtown Portland. It was within easy walking distance from the ship.
