Sail Date: Jun 2014

I sailed on the Navigator of the Seas on 6/22/14. This was my 4th cruise but first with Royal Caribbean Int'l. This was also my first inside cabin and that is something I thought I would never do. Reason, touch of claustraphobia and once you go balcony, you just never want to do anything else. But when my travel mates and I heard of the new virtual balconies, we were curious. So we decided to give them a try.

Well, they won't replace my preference for balconies but it wasn't bad. I liked having a view and I could opt to hear the outside noise if I wanted. The window/balcony did add light to the room and the room did not feel so closed-in so the claustraphobia did not kick in. So I would recommend it to someone who wanted to save the expense of a balcony room but was concerned about the closed in feeling of an inside room.

Now for the rest of the review. Even though I've resided in Houston for over 20 years, this was my first time to depart out of Galveston and while I've heard others complain about the terminal and embarkation/debarkation out of Galveston, I feel it went quite smoothly. I had no major problems to report. Except that it was hot but hey, it's Texas in June, what do you expect? The ship is very nice. The large glass flower decorations and light fixtures on the Promenade were quite impressive. My neighbors who were my travel companions and I enjoyed all of our meals in the main dining room. Marichrist and Conroy were the best servers, top notch and very competent. We also ate in the MDR for breakfast a couple of times and that's the way to start the day. The Promenade Cafe always had a generous supply of cookies and sandwiches to snack on.

Cabin Review

The virtual balcony inside rooms are the answer for those who want the savings of the inside room but fear the closed-in feeling or claustraphia that accompanies a room with no view. You can even hear the outside noises if you want or you can mute them. The virtual balconies help light the room. It even makes the room feel larger.
