Celebrity Silhouette Cruise Review by Lois R
- Sail Date: April 2013
- Destination: Western Caribbean
- Cabin Type: AquaClass
I know a couple of my cruise mates have written long,
pictorals/audio/video reviews and they were awesome.
Mine is not going to be anywhere near that detailed.
Stayed at The Renaissance on 17th Street. Great location. Got
the room on Hotwire w/taxes and fees 120.00. Taxi from the
Hotel offers a shuttle service to the ship for 6.00 per person. Very
reasonable and I signed up after I checked into my room.
They had a noontime shuttle and about 10 people were signed up.
We were all going to Silhouette. I have to say, it took almost 1 hour
from when we left the hotel until we got to the ship. The back up
inside the port was horrible......no wonder pier 25 is such a pain.
Once inside the pier, checking in was very quick. But from what is
normally a 5-10 minute ride, took about 45 minutes. They definitely
need to fix pier 24/25.
Saturday night I met a group from the roll call for dinner at
Bimini Boatyard. I think we had about 20 people. I enjoyed
meeting everyone and had nice time. Food was ok, service
was disorganized (in my opinion). I doubt I will be going back
there. Many other restaurants I have been to before that I enjoy
OK...got to the ship and I arrived on board at 1:30....looked at my
A group from the Roll Call had made plans to have lunch at Bistro on
5. I ended up stopping but most of them were all done eating. I brought
the bottle of bubbly from my cabin and had them open it and a few
folks had a toast to the cruise with me.
Cabin....I was in in AQ, 1632 this cruise. It was starboard, a bit
down from the elevators aft. Nice cabin, cabin attendant was fine.
I was missing some items but he got them to me later in the day.
(coupons and stuff).
This cruise was a belated birthday gift from me to me. Normally AQ
is more than my budget allows but I splurged.
Blu was very good.....food and service both top notch.
We had a very nice group of people on our roll call and I ate most
dinners with them in Blu. I ate in there 5 out of 7 nights. The other
2 I went to Lawn Club Grille and Murano.
Breakfast in Blu was very good too. The Maitr'ds in Blu are outstanding
and kudos to Joey who was our waiter for most of the trip!
Sail away, we had a big group up on deck 15 and it was a lot of fun
and looked like everyone was having a good time.
This was my first cruise in a long, long time that I never went to
the Martini Bar. I was in Molecular and that was my hang out. Both
Loide and Andrei were fabulous bartenders and there was the same
group of folks all the time. Quite fun.
Shows...never went to any in the main theater. Oh wait, I did stop
in to see the Liar's Club. Cute......had seen it before.
And I went to Sin City in Celebrity Central....excellent!!!!
I also never attended the Elite Cocktail hour this trip and never had
breakfast in Tuscan (for the Elite breakfast)....just a different trip
for me. Seemed like I was at Molecular when it was 5:30/6:00 and
if I was dressed too casually I didn't care to go change for the
As for the Elite Breakfast? I preferred Blu......really good food.
Ports.....Cozumel I went with rollcallmates to Nachi. We had nice
time.....left about 10 and I think we got back to the ship about 2:30.
Nice place, good food, nice company. 55.00 for everything...all
the drinks and food you want. We ate under umbrellas on the beach
but you can eat at the restaurant.
Grand Cayman...I stayed on the ship.
Falmouth, I got off the ship, walked around and got back on.....
Labadee...I shared a cabana with some rollcall mates too.
We got one high up (I think it was probably the last one left
The Island is really lovely and there is plenty of beach...this
particular cabana was just not close to it. You could get there
from the backside though....so I walked down to see the beach...
it was very nice.
But this was also where I had my one accident......the cabana
has 2 levels.....with cushions on the top level and loungers
on the bottom level....well, yes, I was talking to my cruisemates,
not realizing I was near the edge and fell from the top to the bottom
level......HARD...landed in the back of one of the loungers....and it
was in the "UP position" so I landed in the empty spot.....my leg
hit the bar....luckly nothing broke or fractured but since I have been
home now, I had to go to the Dr.....as my leg (Shin area)
has a nice lump on it....they took x-rays...came back negative.
Just has to heal up on its own.
Anyway......I went down to the beach and stayed in the water
a while....then went back up to the cabana and got my stuff and
decided to find a lounge chair and just hung out by the beach.
They also had a really nice BBQ for lunch.....excellent actually.
Ribs, steak, lamb chops!...side dishes too.....it was very good.
Should I go on this itinerary again I will know the set up now
and would be happy with a lounger in one of the shaded areas.
After lunch, Ruthie, Brenda and I took a shuttle tour around the Island.
No charge for that and they go from one end back to the front. Once
we got back to the front I decided to go back to the ship.
went to 2 Specialty Restaurants this cruise.
Lawn Club Grille and Murano's and enjoyed both places.
I also had lunch at Lawn Club Grille and The Porch, both times
with Bill and Rosie and enjoyed both meals.
Oh, we had a nice group at our CC gathering. It was held on Monday
morning about 10:30 in Michael's Club. I would say we had about 40
people show up and about 1/2 dozen officers....The Captain, CD
and other staff were there. Some of the folks did a gift exchange
and overall, I had a good time. They served pastries and coffee.
I also went to the Improv that was on board. Nancy Howland was
the Coordinator and it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed very much.
It was held in Celebrity Central and was an afternoon event.
I also went to the Chef's Competition which was held in the main
theater. I always enjoy that and no different this cruise. It is always
a lot of fun.
I want to say again, what a nice group of folks were on our roll call.
Friendly people and it makes for a nice experience.
And the staff and crew on the ship. Always a smile, hello and the
Officers were quite visible. Service was great too.
Solarium pool....I used it a couple of times...love that area on the
Other than my fall, the other negative was the disembarkation
process. They really need to enlarge pier 25.....long line outside the
ship...weaving down, around, and then into the port to find luggage and
then onto another line until you get back outside.
I don't usually give grades, I know some folks do their reviews that
way but in this case....cruise was A.....but the disembarkation
process from pier 25 is a D and the back up for getting to the ship
is slow as well.
Overall, it was a wonderful cruise and Silhouette is beautiful vessel
and would sail her again.
