We have been on Princess Cruise previously in 2013 (Sapphire Princess) and really enjoyed our cruise great food and amenities , we felt cared for with nice communal areas and good restaurants so felt confident that it would be of a similar standard for an enjoyable cruise. What a let down!
On a positive embarkation was easy and staff were very helpful.
I agree with previous review on this ...
We took this cruise because it had a full transit of the Panama Canal. This was the last cruise with this itinerary for the season. A Panama Canal transit had been on our bucket list for a long time, but it has taken many years for a cruise with a schedule that made it doable considering our work schedules. We have cruised with many lines and this was our first (and only) cruise with Princess. ...
We chose this as our bucket list cruise around the world. First the two items that were positive about this cruise:
1.The cabin stewards and the personnel in the Horizon Cafe were terrific when it came to service
2.The Horizon Cafe Buffet had a great selection of food which was well prepared and had a tremendous variety.
Unfortunately those are the only god things I can report about this ...
A World Cruise (WC) was on my bucket list and Princess is our preferred Cruise Line (4 of us). This was NOT a cruise I would repeat nor recommend. The Island Princess is old and needs A LOT of repairs - rust, mildew, mold, water leaks, cabin entry doors not opening and more. All major safety issues - I worked in Transportation Safety for over 20 years and Island is NOT a safe ship unless it has ...
I know many people don't understand the seriousness of food related illnesses and allergies.
When I alter a dish or ask for the special menu I expect an eyeroll and an "in my day..." comment from those around me. What I don't expect is to be treated like the staff is feeding scaps to a bilge rat.
I was fed succotash with asian sweet & sour sauce, a raw onion taco, cold crunchy red ...
My now 90 year old mother and I took this same ship to the Panamal Canal in 2012 and we were now celebrating her 90th birthday and looking forward to the renovations that were made in 2017 to the ship. Imagine our surprise when we find that our balcony grade room was now 1/3 smaller and the shower so small that I could not even turn around without bumping my head (I'm almost 6 feet tall but no ...
I sailed on the Island Princess prior to the latest renovations and found no improvements benefitting passengers. More cabins were added reducing common space area. The gym is now is a small room with no windows. The theatre is small and, unless you arrive at least one half hour early for shows, you generally cannot find a seat.
The Enrichment lecturer, Dr. Glassner, was excellent. The ...
The ship was a mess. The front desk staff, particularly one man, was combative, argumentative and rude. I asked to buy two stamps on the 3rd day of the cruise and he told me they didn't have any because they had sold them all. I suggested they buy more the next time and he said, "Why don't you get off at the next port and go find a post office." He was a total jerk.
The pipes in the ceilings in ...
We arrived with high expectations as loyal princess cruisers.
Boarding was quick and efficient and cabin was ready but we were greeted by a foul stench in the corridor. Attended muster as we ALWAYS do and was scanned in, later that evening we received a letter 'telling us off' for missing muster. Went to reception to be told don't worry the scanners don't always work! not impressed.

May 6, 2006 Los Angeles to Vancouver via Alaska, Island Princess repositioning cruise.
Embarkation. We arrived early (noon), but there was already perhaps a 200 person line. People were processed quickly and efficiently. While waiting we were under a canopy and there was water and seats. We were in our room by 1pm. No problems and boy were we impressed.
Ship. This French-built 3 year old ship ...
