Merry Christmas & Happy New 2019

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Emerald Princess

Whenever my only child informs me that she won’t be spending Christmas with us, I immediately look for a trip to Hawaii. This is the first time we cruised there. Cruise ship is one we had been on before, and it was leaving from my home city. We had a lovely time. I was on a mission to see the parts of Kauai that can’t be seen by car. Our Christmas gift to each other was a Sunshine Helicopter ...

14 Day Hawaii Carnival Cruise

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Carnival Splendor

Overall, the cruise was nice, for those things that Carnival had control of. This is the second time I have left from Long Beach, and they have definitely improved the embarkment process. We were in and processed, and then directly boarded the boat, unlike a few years ago where we waited for a few hours, prior to boarding. The ocean was rough going to Hawaii, but a lot smoother coming back. I, ...

Wish we had better sailing weather

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Carnival Splendor

We knew the weather on sea days in December was iffy, and it was. Rough seas, high winds and clouds don’t make for great days at sea. It’s nice that they have a retractable roof on the Lido pool area. The Splendor is ready for a rehab. She’s showing some wear and tear. The crew was great! Carnival provided lots of activities for sea days with a nice variety. The food was good- if you like fish, ...

Has Oceania reduced staff levels

Review for a World Cruise Cruise on Regatta

This is cruise 18 with Oceania on all ships but Serena. I am not sure if i have been unlucky but the service level was less than “normal”. For example at the Sunday brunch my wife and i finished before any staff member asked us if we wanted water, juice or anything else except cocktails. At dinner in the dining room the opposite, cant find a drink waiter and have to ask. It seems there is a staff ...

A wonderful month on Princess

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Emerald Princess

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and met several cruisers who had been on this same cruise 3-10 times. I'd never been to Hawaii, Samoa, or the South Seas islands of Tahiti, Moorea or Bora Bora, so this was a big thrill for me. Embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze. It probably helped that we were some of the last people on (2:30pm) and off (10:30am). With a 28 day cruise, there ...

Long, relaxing cruise

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Emerald Princess

I initially chose the cruise for the dates and the aft patio stateroom availability, which was taken from me. I booked the room and after they charged my american express card and sent me the info, they had assigned a room to us that we did not book. That was very disheartening. When i called them about it they said it was an "upgrade". They said that there was nothing i could do about it and ...

Unexpected Trouble

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Emerald Princess

We're pretty savvy on Princess, having sailed with them multiple times, previously. My impression is that service is excellent (i.e., if they're having a bad day, it rarely shows). Add to that, now, the excellent and dedicated Medical Staff. 7 days into our 28 day cruise, my wife became ill with a kidney stone which refused to pass; her pain was extreme! For two days, we were in and out of the ...

Walked .4 mile (round trip) for cup of coffee in morning

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Emerald Princess

Overall good experience with mini-suite D120 in forward part of Emerald Princess.. Had a round trip walk of .4 mile to International cafe each morning for coffee and similar walk to Michaelangelo dining room at dinner. Good exercise. Ship could use some updating. Tahiti was a disappointment, i.e., seedy. Moorea was the best port of all. If I had a "do over" I would take ferry from Tahiti to ...

First Princess Cruise

Choose this cruise for a few reasons. First didn’t have to fly which was great then for the destinations. Wife and I took cruises before but this was First with Princess, it was ok, different from others. Have to admit that our experience was better with Royal Caribbean, food selection, cabin and buffet layout , entertainment and theatre. Cabin was small, shower curtain was smelly and ...

A pleasant surprise

Review for a South Pacific Cruise on Emerald Princess

As a frequent cruiser, I tend to expect a lot. I travel on various cruise lines and am on Princess at least half of the time. The service and food on this ship was noticeably superior. Ship management and staff should be congratulated. Attentive wait staff and overall food venues were exceptionally good. Pastry, bread, soup, buffet, dining room presentations were available and at the right ...
