Having been on three previous Hurtigruten cruises we know that the ship size (small), the provision of interesting lectures instead of Abba tribute bands or similar and the unusual itineraries would suit our interests.
After flying to Vancouver for one night the plan was then to be flown to Nome in Alaska and cruise down the Bering Sea and then along the Aleutian Islands and the Inside Passage ...
We chose hurtigruten cruise because of the destination - Iceland, and past experience with Norwegian coastal voyage.
Unfortunately, while the ship is great, our outside cabin is specious with lots of storage, the human component is the Disaster!
Starting with the ship docking in the different port from what we have been advised by hurtigruten. Hurtigruten made no attempt to contact anyone ...
Hurtigruten has a long history of expedition cruising with the latest technology in their ships. Unfortunately that was their only highlight. The trip was very disorganized requiring you to use their app, however they don’t update the app frequently so you show up for something only to find it delayed for 3 hours. We had 4 days in Antarctica and that translated to a possible 8 landings or Zodiac ...
The title of the trip was "History, Seafood and Nature Reserves" This was a cruise from Halifax to Boston.
We heard no more than ten minutes of history daily (and some of it was wrong--we were told John Smith founded Boston....), the seafood was mostly Alaskan cod (nothing regional), and there were only three nature reserves over the week of the cruise.
Communications were terrible ...
We've been on five previous expedition trips including two to Antarctica and one to the Arctic. We had not traveled with Hurtigruten before and chose the MS Roald Amundsen because we liked the itinerary. Hurtigruten, a Norwegian company, gets its name from the coastal express, "Hurry Route." Hurtigruten was quick to acknowledge receipt of our payment. We heard nothing from them for weeks, when ...
We travelled on the 'Island Hopping in the Hebrides' cruise on 3 May 2022. The first four days were in perfect weather including a landing on St Kilda. Thereafter the weather deteriorated . We had not been informed when booking that all landings were on zodiacs and very weather dependent. The weather was in fact not unusual for the West of Scotland in May. Similar sized inter- island car ferries ...
The cruise to the outer British Isles was booked in March of 2020 after a very successful cruise up the Norwegian coast. With such a high opinion of Hurtigruten, we waited eagerly for the sailing of this cruise on April 11, 2022. To be fair, we were well greeted by the crew and very well looked after by housekeeping and the dining staff. The ship is comfortable and our cabin, 413, was spacious and ...
I am really disappointed about this long-planned trip. The customer service is very bad. Long lasting answering times (e.g. waiting for 2,5 weeks to get an email response or waiting 45 min on the phone before someone picked up the call), not able or willing to offer appropriate flights,....
Hurtigruten re-book me on a different ship (not the one I have chosen), did not inform me about it, ...
I don’t think I’ll ever do the Hurtigruten again. First it was very expensive, over 5000 kr per person for a 36 hour trip from Bergen to Trondheim going through Geiranger. We ordered the Arctic Superior room which was twice as expensive as a standard room, but it just had a round port window. It was no better than standard rooms on a normal cruise ship. The Hurtigruten shouldn’t be thought of ...
Cruise to see Northern Lights and Norwegian coastline
This was a Christmas present for my wife who had to cancel due to her sisters bereavement 2 weeks prior to departure.
Hurtigruten were most unsympathetic and inflexible, they would not refund the cost, or change names on tickets to allow use by someone else, or defer the dates.
In the end to avoid losing all the money I travelled ...
