Cruising the Panama Canal

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Coral Princess

We chose this particular cruise, as it was a full Panama Canal Transit. This had been on my husband's Bucket List for many years now and when he retired and we had unlimited "vacation time", I booked it immediately The Coral Princess is a pretty ship, smaller in size and has everything one needs. I will admit it is looking a bit worn, but kept immaculately clean. The public areas were ...

A lovely cruise - to great ports! A smaller ship with an older clientele!

My husband had always wanted to see the workings of the Panama Canal! It was an item on his bucket list. The Coral Princess is a lovely ship - we loved the formal dining and met some great new people onboard. We did the full passage of the Panama Canal on an excursion on a smaller ship. We were able to see the workings of the canal and learn more about the history and function. If you are ...

The Coral Princess is a beautiful ship. We had a mini-suite, very nice. We had a wonderful cabin steward - Noel. The food in the dinning room was very good, desserts so yummy. The pizza was wonderful, ice cream - not so good. The Horizon buffet food was mostly good. The gym is on the small size with no stationary bikes unless you want to play a game while pedaling. We never heard any ...

CREW: Captain Rikard Lorentzen, changed to Captain Andrea Poggi in Cartagena. CD: Miranda McLean, Naturalist Dr. Thomas Ryan, Enrichment Lecture: Mike Raick ENTERTAINMENT: The naturalist came down with pneumonia at Cartagena and struggled though the Panama Canal lecture. He made no appearances after that– he was very good and this was a big loss. Did not go to most events because of ...

Wonderful cruise on a much older ship

We always wanted to go through the Panama Canal, and loved most of the cruise and experience. The ship itself is old and falling apart. There were areas that had a moldy odor. There were areas where the air conditioning wasn't working. In our stateroom the thermostat didn't work, the remote for the TV didn't work, the shelf in the bathroom was broken and the carpet was dirty and worn. As in ...

As always, this Princess cruise was chock full of the senior set, which is fine - we're just coasting into qualifying for AARP ourselves, so it's not a problem - we're not party animals by any stretch. The good: The Coral Princess is one of their smaller ships, which meant we developed more friendships with people than on larger ships, which was nice. Likewise, we got to know more of the ...

Dodging Winter Weather on the Coral

We chose this cruise because experiencing the Panama Canal was high on our list of travel, the timing was right with the winter break and we like Princess. There is a big difference between a full passage from Pacific to Atlantic or visa versa, with the interest in mind. Not only did we go through the locks, but we had narration almost the entire time. The old locks are amazing. Princess got a ...

Found the restaurant and theatre very cold. Also, the anytime dining was not a very efficient as if we didn't line up at 5pm, we had to wait until 8 pm to eat! Need more restuarants for anytime dining. Entertainment kinda died off after 9pm. There was some, but I think due to the majority being seniors it was mostly piano playing type entertainment. low key. Some nights there were deck parties ...

Panama Canal was on the bucket list and Princess was the way to make it happen. We have bee sailing with Princess for many years now and the cruise line, the entertainment and the staff have, for the most part, me our expectations. As this was our first cruise through the Panama Canal we decided to stay with Princess. We were in cabin C721, a mini suite, on the starboard side of the ship. ...

It was a long held ambition to go through Panama Canal and we were interested in the ports of call. We dId Meet and Mingle and met some great people that we kept meeting up with for quizzes and drinks. It was a very friendly cruise, both passengers (mostly older people) and crew. The Food was ok but not Wow. Horizon Court was very busy and sometime it was hard to get a table. The Any Time ...
