Wow!! Princess runs an extremely well organized cruise. Our excursion was fantastic. The service on board was amazing and the picture package was a total value!!!! We had the best formal dining room experience with an incredibly wonderful wait staff. It was every thing we would have wanted in a cruise experience. The comedian on board was the best comedian I’ve ever seen in person. My kids and I enjoyed the warm weather and sat in the hot tub on many occasions. The couples massage we received on board was fantastic except for the sales pitch that came at the end of the massage. Unfortunately, that tainted our relaxation experience a little bit. They tried to sell us oil and acupuncture treatments at the end. Bad call and disappointing. Honestly, that is the only negative experience we had for the whole week. I really can’t say enough good things about our cruise experience. We would travel on princess anytime. The boarding and disembarking was so smoothe and easy as well. . Read Less

The ports were awesome and the dining staff were also great. The room stewards were lazy and only did what they had to. The bed fell on me and I got "sorry". No special treatment on this cruise, no towel animals or anything extra for sure, just the bare minimum. Food was ok but not a lot of variety. Buffet was small and had most of the same food every night. Dining room staff was great! You would barely get finished with your plate and they were cleaning up after you. Entertainment was poor, not much planned for the sea days. Casino was small with just a few table games and little variety for the slots. Jacuzzi wasn't any warmer than a cool bath. Shopping was fair but nothing to brag about. The ports were excellent though, the highlight of the cruise. Every since tips have been included, service has become horrible. Need to go back to making the staff earn their tips. Read Less

My friend invited me to travel with her family group to celebrate our birthdays. The Family choose the cruise line, so I was not involved in the decision of a cruise line or ship. Their travel agent only cruises on Princess. This was my second cruise to the Inner Passage. First was on Celebrity (fabulous!). I was falsely under the impression that Princess is the top of the line in cruising. I was very disappointed by a number of things. Our balcony cabin was kept exceptionally clean by our friendly steward, Edward, but the bathroom shower was unusually small. Our DINING experience was a problem. There were 11 of us and the dining room could not accommodate us at one table (the travel agent managed to get her own group at one large table)and we were separated into two tables in different parts of the dining room. Very disappointing for the grandmas who wanted to spend time with family members. The food was FAIR and generally FLAVORLess (especially the seafood). Our head waiter was very pleasant but extremely harried. Service was rushed and not very personal. Not the attentive, luxury I was expecting. A night at Chili’s not Ruth Chris! ENTERTAINMENT Fair. Two shows had repeat songs from different entertainers and both were somewhat hokey. More geared to an older crowd and I’m 59! I think the CRUISE DIRECTOR was terrible and very annoying. She needs to be replaced with someone with more energy. Ship was very CROWDED and not relaxing. CREW did their job but I encountered several that were rude (especially the bartenders). Captain was alone with the grannys waiting for elevator and didn’t acknowledge them in anyway. Not a hello! The last night of the cruise I felt that they were done with us and they were on to the next group. I’m planning a cruise to Panama Canal with my husband and will probably not book with Princess. Chose this cruise for the itinerary. We lucked out as it was sunny and cool everyday. Sweatshirt and/or jacket in the morning and at sea days due to the wind. Otherwise, a long sleeve shirt or light sweater did the trick. In Ketchikan. We walked around town, and purchased t-shirts. Saw salmon, an eagle and a seal off the bridge in Creek ? Took the Tracy Arm tour but couldn’t go because of the ice so they directed us to Dawes Glacier. The tour operator, Allen Marine was fabulous. I especially appreciated their knowledge, the way they rotated the boat so all could have a photo op and the fact that they held tight waiting for us to get a close up view of a hump back whale (this was a glacier tour, not a whale watching tour). They were outstanding! In Skagway, we rode the white pass trail railway. We had gorgeous weather so we could see for miles. Our tour in Victoria was cancelled so we signed up for an alternate. Unfortunately it was a tour of the city. Great tour. Bad timing. Nothing to see at dark. Surprised Princess would endorse this. Tour guide was knowledgeable but points of interest couldn’t be seen from our coach. Food on board was mediocre. Wait staff and steward were excellent and always trying to make a memorable experience. Entertainment was meh. The Walker Black Duo was worth listening to. The only music for classic/soft rock. Majority of music was geared toward older folks except on deck where oddly it was rap music. Weird. Cabin was a mini-suite loves the extra sitting area and balcony. Didn’t use our club class perks as we were traveling with non club class people. Don’t feel like I really missed our. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze and being able to check our luggage while onboard all the way to our destination was genius. No problems! Read Less

Happy 50 % of the time, Disappointed 50 % of the time. Food and customer service average to below average. Share restaurant outstanding. Don't book on the Emerald. We have made this cruise three other times on other ships and were very happy. The Emerald fails to deliver in almost all areas. A chefs table experience is advertised and this is the second cruise in a row they have failed to have it. Crown Grill had average tasting steak. Not worth the money. Share restaurant was great. Must DO!. Salty Dog Ernesto burger was way undercooked and the meat was very unappealing. Picture of burger looked much better than the burger actually was. Crew members in the shops were more busy stocking shelves and talking amongst themselves than helping customers. Club Class dining had good service, but food was not up to par. In summary, it felt like Princess rounded up all the non-performers in the fleet and put them on the Emerald. Try another ship or cruise line. I am. Read Less

My sister chose the Princess cruise to Alaska for her 50th birthday. My family groaned at this idea because all we could think about was that it was going to be cold? Why should we pack winter clothes for a vacation? Needless to say all 12 of us, brothers, sisters and friends we set sail August 26, 2018. The port was in Seattle and it was a little chilly; however, the boat was beautiful. There was live music playing in the main lobby 6th floor while passengers were checking in. People everywhere, swimming pools are filled with water, steam rolling off the jacuzzi's and pitter patter from children running all around. Plenty of entertainment on the ship, treasure hunts, zumba, line dancing, movies, shopping, kareoke, auctions, Voice of the ocean (my sister won) and concerts. Our first stop was Ketchikan ,small quaint town full of shops and houses on hills. The people are friendly and you will see vendors trying to pursue people to buy excursions. Lots of jewelry shops and cannibas shops. Surprised. :) Weather was rainy. Next stop is Junea which is more shops, vendors but just a different place. My daughter and I went to a great pub and had some fish and chips. Quite good. Weather got better. While sailing to Skagway we see glaciers in the water and whales. Skagway is beautiful. Me, my sisters and brothers take a scary train ride 3hrs long. We go through tunnels, hills and mountains way up top. We travel across Canada and then return. More whales sightseeing as we go to Victoria, British Columbia. Beautiful weather and oh my goodness sooo many shops. The town is beautiful but the trip there was wayyy too short. 3hrs really? Overall this is a beautiful cruise and I encourage anyone that's truly wanting a relaxing and fun time go. Food on the ship was great and the staff was even better. Look out for Hendri, Fernando, Franco and Supervisor Joel. Esperanza took care of my rook and she was wonderful.Loved this trip!!!! Read Less

My retired parents decided to take a cruise to Alaska and took myself and my son (16 years old) and my daughter (8 years old) along with them. I have cruise on other cruise lines in the past, but this was my first time on Princess. No matter where we went, we were always greeted with a smile. The staff are very eager to impress and ensure you have an amazing vacation. My daughter and I stayed in E404, which is an obstructed view stateroom on the Emerald Deck (8). The room is perfect for two people. Lots of space and a beautiful large window with minimal view obstruction. If you want to look all the way forward or aft, you have an issue, but looking straight out is fine. The room was always clean and our cabin steward, Roderick, took care of everything before I even asked for it. The food in the dining room was amazing. We loved going there for breakfast and dinner. We didn't get to have any lunches in there. Once again, the staff we amazing. Daisy and Wellington were attentive to our every need, including my son's nut allergy. They were also a lot of fun. They really left a lasting impression with us. The food in the horizon court (buffet) was ok for breakfast, and pretty disappointing for lunch and dinner. The breakfast was the same thing everyday, which after seven days can get pretty boring. My kids had a hard time finding anything they wanted to eat on the lunch or dinner buffet. They seemed to be more Asian inspired selections. My kids both had big expectation for the kids / teen clubs from a past experience on a Cruise with Royal Caribbean. My daughter enjoyed being in the club for the 8 - 12 year old children. She was always disappointed if she missed out on anything in the kids club and was ALWAYS upset when we picked her up. She never wanted to leave. My son, on the other hand, did not enjoy the teen club. He said that they just basically had the teen lounge available to hang out in, with minimal planned activities. He was hoping they would have similar activities to Royal Caribbean (e.g. scavenger hunts, sport competitions, teen prom on formal night). That wasn't the case for Princess, which was disappointing. Overall, it was an amazing vacation and I would definitely take a Princess cruise again! Read Less

We left out of Seattle and we had planned on having time to get some water and other items we wanted on the ship but did not want to take on the airplane. When we landed at the airport it was a crap show from the get go. The staff at baggage claim took about an hour to check confirm what we had purchased even though we all had confirmation numbers. They also check your passport and your id here. Then they had to "Verify that we had transportation" It said it on the itinerary and we had set this all up months in advance. After another 20-30 minutes they finally took us down to the desk where they would tag our luggage and take it. We were in a large party with 16 of us and 3 small children and 3 others under 18. Once we reached the desk they got us our bag tags and verified our passports and id's again. We then followed our escort to the transfer line where our id's and passports were checked yet again before boarding the bus. Once we got to the dock and started the in processing process we were asked again for our passports and drivers licenses before heading upstairs to the actual desk to be asked yet again for the passport and id to get our cabin card/ship card. After getting this it was a quick stop at the security check point for a picture, then smooth sailing onto the boat and to our cabin. No issues at all. The first thing we noticed was our bathroom stunk and I mean like worse than a public restroom on a construction site stink. We called the front desk and had this issue addressed. It took about 2 hours as everyone was settling and we were getting ready to set sail. The cabin was clean and in good condition. The ship did not really show its age and the crew and staff were always working on it. Painting, sanding rails, staining, etc. The elevators had some issues at the end and several went out for over an hour at a time on the last 2 days, but other than that there were no huge issues I experienced. I know my family had issues with their toilet continually running with water and flooding their bathroom. The issue was addressed and fixed in their cabin but went to the next cabin and created another issue before being fully resolved. When it comes to food I think they are doing a good job but could defiantly improve especially at the buffet, morning room breakfast and room service. The dinning room was great and the food their was wonderful. The menu in the morning/early afternoon is a little slim picking but still good quality. The Crown Grill was a jewel and worth every extra cent we spent to go there. We had purchased the beverage pass (Not premium) and at the buffet it was pointless. If you wanted a drink you had to go to the bar and get it yourself because the staff was far overworked and would not return for refills. On several occasions the staff didn't even come by to get our initial drink order but as stated far overworked. Day one was leaving Seattle Day two was at sea. When we were at sea we used this time to explore the ship. Try some of the different foods and check out all the different decks. This was when we got a good feel for the ships condition and the amount of time and effort the crews put in maintaining it. We checked out shops and got plenty of drinks. When we returned to our room we noticed the Privacy sign had been removed and the room made up. We didn't think much of it and when we went to dinner we put the sign back in the door and left. Upon returning the sign was moved again and the room was made up. We pulled back the sheets to lay down for a nap and found the comforter was discolored and had huge yellow stains on it. This was absolutely disgusting. We left it on the ground and it was not replaced the next 2 days. We found our room Stewart and addressed the issue with him asking him to please honor our request for Privacy and leave our room when the sign is in the door. Day three was Ketchikan. At Ketchikan we got off the ship and explored the city. We went to creek city and walked throughout it. We then went to the hatchery for the salmon and walked around a little more to explore the parks and other sights. The family had gone off on a Salmon fishing expedition so we did our own thing and then returned to the boat with no issues. Long lines but they go fast. Upon returning to the ship we noticed our Privacy sign was removed yet again from the door and our room had been made up. We had only a few short minutes to prepare for dinner at the crown and would be addressing this with his management at a later time as The Crown was an additional cost and we didn't want to miss it. So we quickly changed and rushed out the door ensuring that we put the privacy sign up as we had jewelry and other items laying out that we didn't have time to put away right now. Dinner was par non and I couldn't be happier with the staff at the crown. Upon returning to the room we noticed that our Privacy sign was gone again. We also noticed that my nephews jacket was missing from our room. I went to the front desk and complained about the issues we were having and was told that a member from Management would be contacting us tomorrow morning. I was okay with this and returned to my cabin. My nephew then came and told me that my father had asked the Stewart to let him in the room and the Stewart opened my room for him. My father and I have not had a good relationship for years and he knows better than to invite himself into my spaces (or so I though) Upon hearing this I was exceptionally frustrated as the Stewart is breaking protocol and procedures by ignoring my privacy sign and now letting unauthorized people into my room. (Family or not I do not have that relationship with them and the crew on board does not know if we are or are not family. This is not a call for a front line member to make for a simple jacket or garment. They could have waited for us to get back or came and asked for one of us to let them in the room to get it.) Day four was Tracy Arm and Juneau. This is the day when things went south for us. Very south, very fast. We woke to pieces of the glaciers floating in the ocean. The bright blues and the beautiful mountains were amazing and breathtaking. The breakfast order from the night before was messed up and they had forgotten some items. No big deal we would be going to the buffet anyway soon and they hadn't missed a beat before or after that one day. We took in the views and the mountains and enjoyed every moment of the morning. Around 9:00 AM I received a knock on the door. It was the Housekeeping manager. They stood in the hall until I invited them into my room to discuss the situation. Upon explaining the continual violations of policy and privacy (Hadn't had a chance to explain the unauthorized entry by another person) The manager tells me this is an honest mistake. I Explained the first few times maybe but not after 4 times of ignoring our Privacy sign. He then tries to explain that they need to have contact with passengers or they have to investigate and started giving me the run around ending again with this seems like an honest mistake. I at this time requested that they leave my room and his manager needed to contact me as this was no honest mistake and what has happened was not ok. **Quick history: My family and I had not spoken for years and for the last 4 years we had been mending our relationships and working on our issues. (Their issue is they are Mormon and I am gay. My partner and I have been together 8 years and this was our first cruise) This was suppose to be a bring everyone together and have a wonderful trip cruise. The excursions were paid for and the cruise was paid for by my grandmother. My grandmother was hospitalized prior to coming and was not able to attend with us. A few moments later I went to the front desk and was greeted by Roxana (Customer Relations Manager) She took me to the office of Mario (Customer Services Director) where i explained the situation and what was going on. They sympathized with me and told me it was all unacceptable and that he should not be doing the things he did regardless of if it was family or not. They were going to address it with the Stewart and assured me the trip would be enjoyable and pleasant from here on out. I thanked them for their time and returned to my room trusting it was going to be resolved and we would be able to get back to enjoying our vacation. (During this time I have missed all of the Tracy arm part of the cruise. The fjords, glaciers, waterfalls, etc. one of the main things I was looking forward to) Upon returning to my room, my partner and I start to plan our day. When all of a sudden there is a knock on the door. I was thinking it would be my nephew or cousins, but it was my dad. He barges in my room past me and starts yelling at me about how he told the Stewart to open the door and he is authorized to be in my room. He continues yelling about how I am blowing this out of proportion and there is no reason to be getting anyone in trouble. I explain that I had asked him not to come in the room and that the privacy notice was in the door each and every time he had. That he could have let anyone in the room and they could have taken our watches, bracelets, luggage and anything else they wanted and we would be screwed because we would then have to prove we even had it. He continued to yell for a few minutes and I finally yelled back and told him to leave my room and he wasn't authorized to be in my room as he damn well pleased. Once he left I started to wonder about who had told him anything because I had not mentioned anything to anyone except my partner about what was going on. I went and knocked on his room door to ask who had told him. He told me it was the Stewart who had come and informed him of the situation. At this point I lost it. This was completely unacceptable and we were ready to fly home. I went back to the Directors office and explained that their staff had basically just ruined years of relationship patching because he needed to go complain about me to my family. This resulted in us not doing excursions that we had already purchased over $500 worth as the hostility would make for a very volatile environment for us and other passengers. The Customer Service Director and Customer Relations Manager both agreed this was not ok. This was unacceptable and they were apologizing profusely. Everything was good and being worked out and now there was nothing they could even say about what their employee had just done. The solution was to move us cabins to the other side of the ship. Which we did, but this was not a solution. This was not a fix to the problems that their employee had just created and the years of work he had just undid. The new room we moved into seemed like a downgrade as the carpets were older and there was a stain that looked like the room had been flooded at some point. The rest of the cabin seemed the same. At this time my partner started to get sick as a result of all the stress, fighting and issues that had arisen but we were about to get to Juneau and I was hoping he would get back in the race. We arrived in Juneau at around 3:00 PM and he wasn't doing much better. We had planned on going on our paid for zip-lining excursion but with the issues we could not. So we instead walked the town, bought a few souvenirs and road the tram. It turned out to be a pretty decent day even with the issues we had been having. We returned to the ship and then the room. This is where my partner would be for the remainder of the night. Day five Skagway: The weather was not so great and had been raining on us since we got out of Tracy Arm. My partner was still feeling sick and it was a struggle to get him to get up and go with me ashore. We had paid to go gold panning and have a Salmon bake but again could not go as there was a lot of tension. So we instead went and walked the town and took a bus out to the cemetery where we seen a rushing water fall. It was so powerful and dirty as it was pulling the land from above with it. It was impressive to say the least. 300 feet or so and worth every step there (My partner might not agree lol) Day Six At Sea: Day Six was at sea and there were no issues at all. On this day my partner was bed ridden and I went and enjoyed some of the onboard activities such as Voice of the ocean, choir, guess that song, and the art auction to name a few. Day Seven Victoria: Most of the day was spent at sea but when we got to Victoria at that evening we had a few hours to go explore the city and take in the sights. It was a great little jump off but we wished it would have been a little longer as there is so much to do. My partner was feeling a little better by now and enjoyed the evening with me exploring the city. We were able to see the Parliament buildings lit up which was really beautiful. We got back to the ship and off we went to be at sea until morning when we docked at Seattle. All in all the trip was ok. It would have been much better had we not had the issues we did but you know what they say. Ship happens. Thanks for reading this long review. I don't know that we will be booking with Princess in the future but we are defiantly going on another cruise shortly. Read Less

The journey through the Alaska panhandle was great. The ship experience was only mediocre overall. Problem areas were the Sanctuary, Lotus Pool, arcade room, library, International Café, the naturalist, and the food. I also have minor complaints about the outdoor movie experience and stargazing. The Sanctuary cost $40/day and charged $3 to get drinks delivered, which already have gratuity added. Thus, it was no surprise that it was always empty. It proved to be a wasted use of space on top of the ship. It also doesn’t help that the Sanctuary is located by the ship’s horn, which blasted loudly every couple minutes when it was foggy (presumably as a safety precaution to avoid ship collisions). The Lotus was roped off for 6 of the 7 days. Apparently it was going to be repainted, but that never happened despite decent weather for 5 of the 7 days. It’s a shame, but at least I did enjoy the pool briefly on the first day before we departed when it was open. The arcade room was apparently closed in 2012, but it still appears on the ship’s directory. The space is closed off and needs to be transformed into something useful. I suggest a lounge or recreational area. It’s understandable that video games were prone to breaking, so perhaps foosball or billiard tables could work. Anything is better than an empty closed-off room. The library offered few board games, and a fairly limited selection of books. The chess set had 2 or 3 missing pieces. I recommend keeping extra game pieces on the ship, with a sign in the library notifying passengers how they can obtain those extra pieces if a game is missing any. Extra game pieces should be easy for the ship to afford and store somewhere. The International Café’s sandwiches and desserts needed improvement. I suggest offering a variety of croissants (particularly almond and chocolate) and a few more options for deli meat sandwiches. The naturalist, who spoke for at least an hour, was informative at first but became a nuisance as time continued to drag. I was on a ship that was sending many ounces worth of paper advertisements to every cabin every day. The clear purpose of the cruise is relaxation and recreation, not environmental activism. I support some educational and environmentally active events, but it should not be carried throughout many of the ship’s speakers for an hour. For a talk that long, keep it contained to a section of the ship. If it’s going to be broadcast to the whole ship, keep it to 20 minutes. The dining food was pretty good. But the in-room dining, buffet, and casual food was very lacking. For in-room dining, I want to see muffins and donuts as options for breakfast. I want to see pretzels, chips, and candy as options for the rest of the day. The rice at the buffet needs improvement. Peas and carrots are not great additions. Try a rice pilaf recipe that incorporates oil/butter and onions. The buffet could also use more finger food – pigs in a blanket, mozzarella sticks, and Buffalo wings. The hamburger grill nearby would do well with chicken tenders added to the menu, as well as better portions of sauerkraut with the hot dogs. The outdoor movie experience was a good idea. I appreciated that popcorn bags were offered, even granting that the popcorn wasn’t hot. But the blanket situation was a mess. I was supposed to sign my name to take a red blanket, but no one was there when the movie ended to check that I returned my blanket. Finally, apparently there was a stargazing event. But it was not advertised and didn’t appear on my calendar, so I missed the event. In addition, I am wondering how good the event could’ve been, given there is a lot of light coming off the top of the ship that interferes with a lot of stars. It would be nice if at least a certain section of the top of the ship could be dimmed at night for at least a short time each night to view the stars better. Read Less

This cruise was chosen for my by family members, to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. I was excited to go to Alaska and Canada. This cruise exceeded my expectations and went beyond. Everyone in our 14 person party had a great time. We were never bored, in fact I wanted more time during my day so I could do more activities. I was often trying to decide which activity to participate in. The entertainment spanned from bingo, music shows, comedians and trivia to art shows, wine tasting and movies. We went swimming (yes in Alaska) and it was marvelous. There was golf putting basketball and other games up top. They were seriously so fun The cities we visited were beautiful and prepared for the disembarkment of multiple cruises with thousands of people. We were able to shop, hike, go whale watching, see amazing glaciers, waterfalls and wildlife. I highly recommend this cruise. I've already told my friends about it and recommended to them that they go. Read Less

We cruised on Ruby Princess a few months ago to Mexico and were very impressed with the line so we booked our AK trip with Princess too. Entertainment were great. Staff members were amazing. Food was fresh and elegantly prepared and served. Formal meals were not just for eating---but events to be experienced. There were 10 adults + 1child (4 yo) and we would split up to go to trivia challenges or tour backstage and do a Q&A with the dancers/singers or play a table game we found in the library and then all meet up for dinner or watched a comedian or magician together. So--there was plenty of togetherness with enough opportunities for down time to decompress. The people that made this cruise ship stand out are Alex (cruise director), Yessy and Ampolo (asst cruise directors), Juliet (hostess in Horizon and DaVinci restaurants) and Jose Luis (waiter in Curtis Stone's Share restaurant). They're all so freaking adorable that I wanted to take them home with me!! The excursions at the ports of call were fun and interesting but I could have stayed on the ship for the entire week and taken line dancing classes or played Family Feud or Who's The Cuckoo? and don't think I ever would have tired of it. My brother and sister-in-law were both finalists in VOICE of the Ocean and that was fun to cheer them on to the finale. Bring nice clothes to dress up a bit for dinner. It's not mandatory (except on formal nights) but it will make you feel special. It was hard to go home after having an entire fleet of crew members there to pamper and spoil us. This is the life!!! This was my third time sailing with princess cruise line. The past cruises were fantastic. This last one was a huge disappointment. We can never get our 50 th anniversary back. I have nothing more to add. I will never use princess again. The child's program was just babysitting. It used to be great. The food was McDonald's quality. The service in the horizon court was very bad. The service in the horizon court was extremely bad. The bed was very comfortable. The dance classes were fun but needed more room. They were way too crowded. I can't even say how disappointed we were. There were eight of us and we were split up for dinning, even after I requested we were to sit tonight. They even sat other people with half of our party. Read Less

The entertainment was also very good. Almost always something exciting happening!!. We were treated very good. The only negatives would be that the ice cream and pizza bars were only open till 10. And the stop at Victoria island was very short. We also got one of the beverage packages which was very nice. You could get an unlimited number of soda and cold non alcoholic drinks. The sip was very easy to maneuver around and there was plenty of space to spread out or just leisurely walk around unless of course there was an important event where everybody had to be in the same place at the same place. Wanted to visit Alaska. Always heard Princess did the best job. Found out otherwise. Dining staff were rude at times, irritable, refusing to give extra items or reluctant to exchange items. Odd for any cruise ship. Difficult getting gluten free items. Not many available. Dining staff seemed lazy, didn't want to walk back to galley if we asked for something. Attitude issues. Culture on ship is rigid. Staff seem fearful. Never got baby food ordered ahead. Flooding bathroom floor , stopped up plumbing system, and no cold water entire trip in son's cabin B532 Would pick different cruise line when returning to Alaska because of culture issues with staff and plumbing problems that couldn't be resolved in 7 days. Alex the cruise director, and his team were good. Team had a lot of energy, offered many new games to keep guests involved, including late night adult games. Music was all ok. Magician did little magic, tried to be a comedian, not very good. Actual comedian was very good. Several shows, all different, very funny guy. Very few food choices after 11:00pm . We choose Emerald Princess based solely on price at the time of purchase. We knew we wanted to go to Alaska. Because of the cheaper fare, I thought that we might have a budget cruise. That is not the case. We were treated with the utmost respect and felt we were treated exceptionally well just as cruisers who paid for the pricier suites. The ship was beautifully furnished. The service was over the top wonderful and the food extravagant. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly and without hassle. I heard from another couple at high tea that they've had nightmare embarkations and Princess handles the process the best. The interior cabin was sufficient and roomy for two people. The dining experiences felt like fine dining every night. I truly felt spoiled with the service. The buffet was extravagant and had tons of food options for all types and ages of cruisers. It was nice to talk to the servers about their home country and how long they have been on board. The ports were interesting and fun and the two shore excursions were worth every penny. Go on the railway excursion if you can. It doesn't disappoint. My first positive cruise makes me a fan and I would definitely cruise again. You feel spoiled, special and are treated so well by all the crew members. Read Less

This cruise was gifted to us and we went with family. It was our first ever cruise, so nothing to compare it to, but it was wonderful. We were on the Aloha deck starboard, with balconies. Our 4 staterooms were all side by side so we were able to open the dividers on the balconies. We discovered the Wheelhouse our first night and the amazing Irish duo, The Rolling Waves. We watched a few other shows, but kept coming back to them. Our bar stewardess Joanna was friendly and always had a smile. She knew what we wanted after the first night. The food was good. Breakfast at the buffet go a little tiring at the end, but it changed up at lunch and dinner. The best meal was at Shares. Our cabin wasn't huge, but it was spacious enough for the two of us. The balcony added that extra needed space. It was clean and our Stateroom steward Suraj was amazing. We did one expedition in Juneau, booked through the ship. That went smoothly with no issues booking or otherwise. Overall we had a wonderful experience and want to take our grown kids on a cruise one day. From what we learned on ship, this one is going to drydock next year to get a facelift. Read Less

Princess has the absolute best customer service, staff and crew. The cruise directors are engaging. It's always a fun experience. The food is incredible. The cabins are small, but well maintained. Elegance that has seemed to disappear from the other cruise lines. The passengers are truly appreciated on Princess. Absolultely love that we could have dinner at different times each night and meet different people. The afternoon tea was delightful. Had a blast with the photo staff taking portraits. Best value for the money to get the portrait package. Includes the thumb drive (in the shape of the ship) AND the prints. No other line does that, (at least none that we've traveled on.) The guest speakers and educators were fun. And their presentations were fun, not boring. Loved the puppies and the ax throwing. One of my favorite things about Princess is how the cruise directors get involved and join in the activities with you. And they go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying yourself. And it's nice to see how well trained the wait staff is. Always there to fill a water glass, clear your plates and bring you whatever you need. By far our absolute favorite cruise line. We've taken 10 cruises and 6 have been with Princess. Booked our next cruise with them already for May. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever and it was so fantastic that we are already looking forward to our next one! We even paid a future cruise deposit while on board. We were totally prepared for our embarkation to be a "hurry up and wait" type of operation with long lines and lots of people, but Princess has this down to an art and the whole process was rather quick and totally painless. Our cabin, R228, was not near as small as we had anticipated. I was particularly worried about the size of the shower as someone had pointed out to me how small they are as I'm not a small person but it had more room in it than the one in our camper so it was great. Our steward was terrific, she went out of her way to help us with some items and our appreciation was shown in an additional type we left for her. We had anytime dining and chose to use the Michelangelo dining room as it was MUCH easier to get to than the Botticelli dining room. Food was fantastic as well as the service. We ate breakfast in the Horizon Court Buffet and it was great every morning. We ate lunch in port when we had the opportunity - if not we just chose from the many options available on board and were never disappointed. For our anniversary we did eat in the Crown Grill specialty restaurant and it was just as great as the high end steak houses we have at in at home. Ports all had friendly folk and and was touristy as was expected but we still had a great time hanging out in them talking with people and actually enjoyed just sitting back and relaxing and not rushing around like some trying to get to their excursions. This is my 2nd time on a princess cruise and boy, how things have changed! The Cons: 1.The buffet was terrible! Very small with limited choices. Same food selection every day. The wait service were rude and unfriendly. Good luck finding somewhere to sit and eat! 2. The entertainment was really lacking. The "headliner" shows were just plain awful (a magician with simple magic tricks and a story line that made no sense). There was a lot of downtime when there was literally nothing to do. The "game shows" were run and played by staff which made them very boring. Let the passengers play the games!! 3. We found ourselves bored a lot, especially with a 12 year old. 4. The dining rooms food was excellent but wait staff were never smiling or making jokes. If you asked them for something, they acted annoyed. The Pros: 1. There is nothing bad to say about the ports of call. Alaska is so beautiful! 2. Our cabin (mini suite, deck 9) was very spacious and comfortable. No complaints here. Our steward was thorough and pleasant. 3. Excellent food in the dining rooms, outdoor grill, crown grill, and pizza/ice cream bar. 4. Our cruise director, Simone, was very warm, funny and friendly. 5. Our captain took us to see Sawyer glacier, which is a rare occurrence. 6. Plenty of raffles, if you are into that kind of thing. My family won many nice prizes. Overall, I probably would not choose Princess again. My 1st time sailing with them (back in 2005-ish) was pure luxury but this time around, it was very disappointing. I'll stick with NCL or Royal Caribbean next time. Read Less

Many people love to complain. I can't complain here. Was the cruise perfect? No. What ever is? Was it so much fun and what i hoped for? You bet! First I have to say the best part of the actual time on the ship was the cruise director, Simone. Stay snazzy! She was so so so much fun! So much energy! So funny! Super cute and bubbly! She worked morning until night and never let you see any ounce of being tired. Jessie, Ruby, et al.....all her staff were fun and amazing! They truly were a ray of sunshine every time I saw them. I also want to commend my stateroom steward, Warlito. The care of time he spent keeping our room so fresh and clean was over the top. Recognized me every time he saw me. All of the bar staff are great, but Rizzy at Crooner's Bar gave customer service at the highest level. I learned customer service from Disney years ago and this is what i use to rate it wherever I go. He made me a special drink that i asked him for. He remembered my name from that first encounter and made it a point to greet me personally every time i saw him the rest of the trip. That felt great! Finally, I'd like to say the staff at the Michelangelo dining room where we ate dinner every night were wonderful. The host recognized us each night. Danced with my niece and nephew. Put a smile on our faces. Our servers and staff were so nice and knew everything about each menu. Made for a wonderful experience. Ok...now let's get on to the boat. The positives, aside from the personal mentions above, were the singers and dancers for the shows in the theater. The comedian, Carlos Oscar, was hilarious! The trivia events and the games such as Yes/No Game Show were very fun. Food was great. Trident Grill burgers, brats, etc was awesome. Movies By The Pool were great. Pizza and Ice Cream counters were great! Overall the events, the food, the ambiance and overall experience was what I hoped for. But there were also some negatives. I thought there were too many events in the Piazza. It's a small space and nowhere near enough seating. People lining the staircases were a nuisance during these times as well. Club Fusion should have just been called Fusion. Certainly wasn't a club. I know a 7 day Alaska cruise caters to an older clientele, but there were plenty of people there that didn't want to go to bed at 11:30 and would have liked that club to be open. Basically everything ended by 11:30. I went to bed earlier on this cruise than i do when i go to work the next day. And the casino.....and it was probably a good thing as i kept my money in my wallet....was boring and dull. Worst thing, by far, about the cruise was getting a soda. Especially in the Horizon or Cafe Caribe seating areas. I just think the process is bad. You have to give your card to someone and tell them what you want. There were times I saw that card and order given to 2 more people after the initial order. Then sometime in the not so near future you got your drink. Really, REALLY poor service. Overall....please focus on the positive things I wrote. I was just trying to nitpick and give some feedback on places where they could do better. The positives outweighed the negatives 95% to 5%. Lastly...and this is just single guy talk. Blonde female manager in the Horizon court area.....super hot. Female hostess in Michelangelo dining room. Hot. Cruise Director staff etc.....super hot. Especially the Cruise Director. Sorry...thanks for indulging me. TAKE THIS CRUISE!!! Read Less

We were disappointed with Princess Cruises. Our family of 14 ranged from 7 months to 89yrs. The 89 yr old enjoyed herself but the teenagers, young adults and adults were are somewhat bored and disappointed. The shows were terrible and the young adults always left the show. Definitely not the caliber of RCCL’s Broadway shows! There was not much for young adults and teens to do onboard the ship. They were bored. Our dining in the Da Vinci room had slow service while the kids table had faster service. Kids were not impressed with the food. However, the food in the Crown Grill was so much better. Big difference in the lobster quality and steaks. Our waiter never brought a celebration cake we ordered prior to the cruise. The helicopter excursion in Skagway and the Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan were awesome and the staff were friendly and great. However, DO NOT waste your money on the Buchart Gardens excursion in Victoria, BC! Not enough time to see the Gardens and fireworks, our bus driver was rude and threatened to leave passengers behind. It was difficult fighting the fireworks crowd to get back to your bus in the dark and in an unfamiliar area! Not to mention finding your bus in the sea of other buses! We even signed up for the wheelchair accessible excursion, should allow extra time for that also or not offer the fireworks portion of the Gardens! We also purchased the Unlimited Photo Package prior to the cruise to save $50. This was a terrible purchase. Photographers were not always around, even at embarkation we had to ask where they were. They did not stay out at ports for very long and only came around the dining room twice. They were always too busy in the photo gallery to scan my photos to the USB stick so they held it over night. On 3 different occasions, I went back to pick it up and they couldn’t find my photos or the USB stick! Finally got everything the last day, so I thought. I got home and checked the USB stick and it was missing so many photos! I was happy to see what’s still left of the Alaskan Glaciers, but next time I will definitely do whatever I can to sail on RCCL instead of Princess! Read Less

Family members encouraged the cruise and we wanted to back to the port city and eventually see Alaska. We visited the departure city for 3.5 days before embarkation and loved Seattle. The process to get on the ship was smooth but getting off the ship, we were at the airport almost 4 hours early. The service on the ship was well below average except in the club class dining area. The assistant manager and manager of the spa were extremely rude and disrespectful to my mother in law and myself. We were double charged for our services in the spa. If any one is going to get multiple services at the spa, I would recommend doing your most expensive service last to take advantage of the 10,20,30 promotion (10% of first service, etc.) as this promotion is not advertised online. Cabin (suite) was nice but the ship does not utilize reusing towels, recycling in the rooms, etc. Overall it was clean just outdated. The food was average but the service outside of club class was well below average. Drinks were slow to be delivered and extremely sweet. There are no 'specialty beers' at any dining room. Overall service throughout the entire ship was disappointing. The front desk was unable to help clarify double charges. Last day of the cruise, we spent most of the day going around trying to clear up our bill. Our bill was ultimately more than $700 overstated, $500 from the spa and $200 of gratuities were charged on our bill even though they were prepaid. Wifi was awful. Do not waste your money on this. It was $100 and we didn't get any service in the room and barely any service throughout the ship. After all of the below average service, etc. on the cruise, the excursions and ports were awesome! We did the separate cruise to Tracy Arm Fjord which was worth it. We also did the glass blowing class and photography tour in Skagway. The dog sled camp was also a good excursion in Juneau and the wildlife tour in Ketchikan. Anyone who has time to stop in Skagway, definitely make the stop to Skagway Brewing Co. The Spruce Tip Ale was delicious along with the food! Read Less

The ship was completely sold out, and yet it never felt crowded. Even after just boarding, had an excellent lunch in the dining room that was open instead of going to to Horizon Buffet. We had very good to excellent food in the “any time” dinning room —never waited in line by simply calling ahead for reservations for our group of four. Best surprise was the “Share” restaurant that has been beautifully built at the back (aft) of the ship—with an adjoining bar. Great views and atmosphere with food recipes created by Chief Curt Stone from Australia! Celebrated my birthday there an then enjoyed jazz at the bar. Our 12th cruise and we weren’t expecting much based on some of the reviews—but the ship is in great shape with usual good Princess service. Had good times at each port—especially the Shrine of St. Theresa in Juneau and the gardens and fireworks in Victoria. only suggestions are to upgrade TV offers in staterooms and improve food in Buffet—breakfast is good. We rented Cars in Juneau and Skagway and got to see more and economically with four people. Great cruise. Read Less

Chose Emerald Princess as it had room for our large family group to travel to Alaska at the time most were available. We have traveled with Princess several times before, even on the Emerald Princess, & have always been most satisfied. Arrived in Seattle 2 days early before embarking to enjoy the city, which our family did, including the Space Needle & the Market, while residing at Marriott's Springhill Suites, which was also very nice, including their restaurant. Two of our teenage granddaughters purchased gorgeous bouquets of flowers at extremely reasonable prices at Pike's Market & were able to enjoy them throughout the cruise. Attended Mass at the beautiful St. James Cathedral on Saturday evening & then were amazed by the speed & efficiency in the boarding process, which was extremely faster than in the past, even just a year ago. Our travel agent reserved our rooms next to each other, which were lovely, & our super steward opened the balcony doors between the cabins so we were able to enjoy the beautiful views together throughout the cruise. The food was exceptional, some of the best we have ever had on a cruise & our family was delighted. Special attention was given to our 3 year old grandson's meals as well as all the others in our party. Our tables were grouped together but ate with different members of our family each evening. Enjoyed several shows with very talented entertainers & the Alaskan puppies brought on board one afternoon were a big hit. All the service was great & we especially enjoyed walking around Ketchikan as well as a train trip at another port. The ports were colorful & very clean. We were also provided the option of having our bags sent directly to our home destination at the end of our cruise given your itinerary, which was very helpful. The 3 year old asked if he could go again, & there were different age group programs offered for children which he did partake in, but not quite ready to be on his own. Cannot say enough good things about our experiences as we were extremely well cared for and delighted. Read Less

This was a large family cruise, for some of the family this was their first cruise while we have sailed with Royal Caribbean 4 times and have only positives to say for them. The crew of this ship seemed to us either first time as crew members or tired and not wanting to be helpful and just plain rude. We were given pina colada when ordering a margarita, then when we questioned it were given another pina colada, asked for an Alaskan Brewing Company Summer Ale and given something different and told Summer Ale wasn't available yet it was at the bar outside the dining room. We were short a life vest for our cabin that finally appeared after the 4th day. The adults only pool was never filled and when we asked were told it was due to rough seas, a complete lie as it was smooth seas except for the very first night out of port. The other cruise lines had theirs filled and we asked their passengers at port. The last port, Victoria, we came in port on time but at 7 PM while the other cruise ships passed us on the way and arrived earlier, most of the city shuts down at 9 PM so what a waste and truly a beautiful stop to make, I question their reasons for this schedule. Dining room food was poor, the crab legs and lobster tail were so over-cooked it was rubber for example, buffet staff were less than helpful and sometimes short and giving false information (no omelets when yes, they do them but by the time I learned how to order it was the last day). We will never use Princess again and will let it be known to our social media connections, even after a poor review on Princess' website we were never contacted to ask about the poor review left even though I asked to be called.
