Having been on several cruises, we wanted to try a small ship and experience the Norwegian west coast fjords. The actual trip was a good experience with friendly crew members, interesting fellow travelers and the very majestic scenery. We had really good weather and were treated to the Northern Lights on several evenings. The Nordnorge was fun to sail on.
However, I cannot be as positive ...
I did the Northbound Voyage from Bergen all the way to Kirkenes with my mom in Fall 2017. This was my first cruise experience.
I'll start with the good parts.
Good Thing #1 -- The boat's facilities (ours was the MS Nordnorge) were pretty nice. Recently renovated, everything was clean and in good working shape. I most enjoyed the two jacuzzis and the lounges on the top deck. Our cabin was ...
In 2006, I sailed on this very same vessel to Antarctica. When I heard the ship had been refurbished in 2016 and was now sailing in the Arctic, I was anxious to experience "having sailed to the ends of the Earth" on the same ship. My expectations were exceeded on this cruise! Although the weather was a little bit less than cooperative, the sights of the Norwegian Coast were stunning, and the crew ...
This is a unique cruise, if must be said; its strengths lie in the scenery, the food and the ability of the small ships to get into small harbours.
But beware: the value for money is NOT good. I know this is Norway, but drinks are exploitatively expensive and the trips ... eeesh. These latter are, frankly, a mickey-take.
Here are some tips:
On any city trip which involves a play, recital ...
Wanted to see the fjords of Norway, we saw up close and with the size of ship we went in close in where other cruise ships could not reach. The cabin although small was comfortable (single) and was glad to have a inside cabin because of the 24hr daylight. You could not fault the staff they where most helpful and efficient, the food was great and a a large choice. The excursions was well ...
We were not sure what to expect. This is a "ferry line" with people, goods and vehicles loading and unloading in every port. Frequent enjoyable stops. Smaller than Cruise ships (only 7 decks) and not as luxurious, but very clean with pleasant environment and excellent service-oriented English Speaking & accommodating staff.
Scenery was incomparable! "Ceremonies" on deck were well done, ...
Always wanted to cruise the Norwegian fijords, but did not want a monster ship with 3000 people. This trip with 350 passengers on a working ferry boat filled this desire to T. The food was excellent, the staff friendly, the excursions interesting and the ability to meet interesting people were all part of this cruise. The scenery was amazing and being a smaller boat, you felt closer to the action ...
WE cruised the Norwegian fjords a few years ago in late November in ice and snow with the Norwegian company - Hurtigruten and enjoyed it so much we planned another visit!
This time we chose the Autumnal season. Not quite as stunning as the winter season but still deserving the title The Most Beautiful Cruise in the World. A photographers paradise.
Marvellous light and skies.
Nordnorge ...
Zuiderdam I sailed from Bergen to NYC.Sailing through Hermine the captain made the correct call missing Nova Scotia and head for NYC. This was my 5th trip to Norway having previously visited by North Sea Ferry from Newcastle (with car), Queen Victoria, Grand Princess and the Ryndam. Norway is one of my favourite destinations but I have always visited in Summer, so long long days. I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights and Hurtigruten offer the chance to see the Northern Lights on their daily coastal service from Bergen ...
