This cruise was recommended by a friend and it was top notch. The cabin (double) was comfortable with a small balcony with seating for two. Not only the cabin, but the entire ship was well maintained by staff. The meals very good with lots of variety and choices. The entertainment was very good from current popular music to classical music and some comedy. The ports of call and shore excursions were very well organized, always timed well and all interesting. The staff, without exception, were pleasant, responsive and knowledgeable. The cruise director deserves special mention. She oversaw most everything, gave clear and precise daily briefings, displayed a lovely sense of humour and could answer virtually any question posed to her. The only thing I would have wished for, was a slightly bigger and better equipped fitness room. Fortunately the weather was exceptionally good and exercising by walking regularly on the deck was the primary outlet for fitness. Read Less

Having already taken two previous river cruises from Budapest to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to Budapest with Scenic, my wife and I decided that it would be nice to explore different stretches of the Rhine and cruise on the Mosel for the first time. We found, as before, that our onboard experience was very much 5 star, the dining experiences were excellent, and the cruise director and his team were highly motivated and professional. Everyone on board was made to feel special and the entire crew worked very hard to ensure that everyone had a really good time. A special mention for Werney Beyer, whose personal style and dedication set an excellent mood and tone for the whole cruise. I cannot praise enough his dedication and his desire to keep everything running smoothly and dealt rapidly with anything which was not absolutely right. The scenic enrichment experiences were all very enjoyable and an experience that was genuinely enhanced by the knowledgeable and professional guides who not only shared their knowledge, but in many cases their humour! One particular tour we made stands out, because it was so unexpected in the context of tourism normally being about the picturesque, namely the tour of the Zollverein Mining Complex. We had a fantastic afternoon out at the industrial site and museum and we given a comprehensive tour from one of the site's dedicated guides. My only wish was that a larger number of people didn't join us for the experience. I hope though, that this event stays in for future tours because it was really fascinating. Read Less

Heard and seen many good reviews on TV about this tours so decided to give it a go, Booked a Rhine river cruise from Basel to Amsterdam in a royal panorama suit. The suits only 2 on the ship are at the rear of the boat-incredibly noisy and smell of diesel fumes and cigarette smoke as the crew gathers here and smokes all the time, even with closed windows we could smell both the diesel and the cigarette. The cabins are tiny comparing to other similar category as I cruised the Nile and Jangcee river before and the size were nearly double than this. Also pretty steep price for the 7 days paid more than 8K per person AUS-the dinners are set at 7pm and goes for 2 hours no other choice either you skip it or eat at this late hours-the room service is very limited and not healthy either, burgers and brownis with chipos etc The booze was flowing freely so if you are an alcoholic probably will have happy time onboard well we were not.The first 3 days were nothing to look at while sailing-flat boring scenery-the first port of call-Strassburg was missed as the captain and crew made an error and miscalculated the lock times so we had to wait 5 hours to go through and all shore activities were cancelled.Pretty annoying when the whole cruise is 7 days and this was supposed to be one of the highlight. The table la rieve degustation dinner-only for the top deck guest were good but the portobello-Italian evening was less than impressive. Only 2 -2 seater table on the entire restaurant and even those were set next to the "feeding station" so it was like eating at a cross road people bumping into your chair and private space all the time. Also there were some noisy canadian and American tourists onboard who were more interested in their own little fun than listening the cooments on shore trips. Well I certainly wouldn't recommend this very expensive suits to anyone as they simply grossly overpriced for the 7 days the scenery and the service. Read Less

This cruise line was recommended by my travel agent. I had never heard of them before. Let me tell you they are remarkable. We booked the Junior Royal Suite, Cabin 315. The room was spacious, clean, and well furnished. There is plenty of storage with two closets, drawers and a night stands, as well as shelf storage in the sitting room and bathroom. About the bathroom, it is large by ship standards with a nice sized shower and a full sized deep tub. One thing about that shower, it is some ultra modern shower with spray at your feet, knees, navel, and a "rain" head right directly over you. They should have saved the money and just put in a regular shower head and hot and cold knobs. The bathroom was kept remarkably clean with service twice a day. Scenic is truly "all inclusive". You can out your wallet in the in room safe when you get there and not take it out again until you disembark. Everything is included - top shelf liquors, wines, food, excursions, everything. No tipping for anything.(More about that later.) The food is excellent. They serve the normal three meals plus snacks anytime. There are two special restaurants on board in addition to the main dining room, Portobello and La Reve. Portobello is Italian and La Reve is fine continental cuisine. Every passenger gets to eat in Portobello once during the cruise. La Reve is reserved for the passengers on Deck 3, the Diamond Level. Both are outstanding. The lounge/cocktail bar is spacious and well appointed with comfortable seating. The bar and wait staff provide excellent service. They know your name and what you drink by the second day. The best thing about our cruise was the staff. We were met by the Hotel Manager and Cruise Director when we boarded. They were the friendliest most welcoming people I have ever met in the hospitality industry. We were taken to our cabin immediately by our butler who showed us all the amenities of the cabin. He then left and came back within five minutes with sandwiches and drinks. (We didn't ask for it. He anticipated the need because we arrived just after lunch.) He also opened the champagne that had been left chilling in the cabin. There was fresh fruit waiting for us. But back to the butler. This man was the most efficient, friendly person I have ever seen in all my years of traveling. He anticipated our every need before we knew we needed it. Now about tipping, if you don't give this guy something at the end of the cruise you are a true Scrooge and the ultimate cheapskate. He made our trip truly exceptional. The excursions were well done. Most all involve some serious walking, so bring good shoes. The guides spoke excellent English, and were personable and friendly. They have these trip personalizers that you take with you on the excursions. They look like an iPhone, and the guide can talk to you over the included earpiece. When they work they are great; unfortunately ours only worked about half the time. I would say they are a great idea that is not ready for prime time. Only one hitch in the entire cruise. We were supposed to go to Strasbourg the first day out. The traffic on the river was so heavy that we spent hours waiting to transit the locks. No Strasbourg. The tried to make up for it by adding an additional excursion in Amsterdam. Not their fault, but disappointing. It's just one of the risks you take when river cruising like low water. Their were no children or teenagers on this cruise. I would not recommend it for families. It's just not their thing. The passengers were from the US, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, with a smattering of Eastern Europeans. Read Less

It has now been about 4 weeks since we arrived back home after our wonderful cruise on the Scenic Pearl from Basil to Amsterdam, starting with an overnight stay at the luxurious Hotel Schweizerhof in Zurich. It all seems like a dream now, but we have never been so spoilt, or fed so much wonderful food, or seen so many incredible places that we would not otherwise have seen, as we were on our Scenic cruise. Marian kept our cabin absolutely spotless, and we loved seeing the little figures made from towels on the bed each day. Haris our butler was charming, and although we didn't use his services as much as we could have, we really enjoyed our early morning cup of tea in our cabin, along with his cheery morning greetings, each day. Frank Riapos is a great cruise director, he was always friendly, approachable, and helpful, and kept everything running smoothly, even when plans needed to be changed through no fault of his own. He really goes "the second mile". It was a special time for us as we had been travelling throughout England for some weeks previously, watching our budget very carefully, so it was great to finally board the ship, knowing we wouldn't need to worry about finances, or finding our way around, as everything was taken care of in the initial price. It really was a wonderful way to finish our "holiday of a lifetime" and left us feeling that if circumstances permitted we would love to travel with Scenic again, to explore another part o the world. Thank you Scenic for a truly wonderful experience that will stay in our memories and our hearts forever. Read Less

This was the only cruise that had a excursion to Speyer Tecknic museum which was one of our must do's to the travel agent .It was a combination celebration for us for a birthday and wed anniversary , unfortunately we didn't get to see anything of Basel our departure point as we were bussed from Zurich to the ship. impressed with our welcome aboard , glass of champagne and our room with a balcony . Embarking went smoothly and the meals on board were first class. Our Cabin was awesome , Dining a true 5 star experience . Entertainment was good , but not to the same level as the service and dining standard. Service was impeccable from bar, dining and room service . Port and shore excursions were fabulous, we had one disappointment we missed the first port stop due to our ship missing its lock time , which was pretty disappointing for all on the ship. Our ship age group varied from 50 to 80yr olds which was a good mix , no children on board. We loved the experience as we had done ocean cruises in the past . Loved the fact all was paid for , no extra costs on board unless you wanted a massage, hairdressers , extra washing done or something at the shop. Disembarking went just as smoothly and the Hotels recommended by the cruise to stay in and fantastic as so easy to find and again good 4 to 5 star service. If we get the chance again would certainly do another. Read Less

This was a once in a lifetime cruise for myself & my husband. Our cousins had been on 3 before and desperately wanted us to go with them on their 4th. So it started, we were picked up from the airport and transferred to a Hotel served drinks and canapes before being taken by coach to our boat. Upon entering we where greeted by Miguel and his very professional crew aboard Scenic Pearl for the start of our Moselle Rhine cruise . Our luggage and embarkation went very smoothly (obviously done many times before) we were seated in the lounge area with a welcome drink where we where put at ease with a talk by Miguel. They obviously travel & work as a family and we were made to feel part of that family from the very start. Excited we were taken to our cabins & not disappointed they were very clean & smelt fresh. Our Butler Costin was very professional and delivered exceptional services always with a smile to die for. The dining staff were 2nd to none, and special compliments to the head chef Mr Buti. Most of our spare time was spent in the lounge & bar area where Antonio, handled the bar like he was playing the violin with style. Richard our cruise director never failed to impress us with his knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to making sure that we had the best of everything even when things beyond his control like being held up at locks that would throw all arrangements out the window late at night and have everything organized by morning . It was awesome to see when in port and their was loading to be done all hands were on deck. A mammoth job done by great teamwork. If there were any complaints it was that the 4 last port stops didn't really have much in the way of souvenir shops (started from Basel) so don't leave shopping till then. And maybe a little more dancing music on board for the young at heart. Everything about this cruise was exceptional from beginning to end. Compliments to Miguel, and to all 51 of your children Costin beautiful Daniela, Ramona, Haris, Tibor, Marion, Octavain, Branko, Marina, Antionio,Tibor, Sasa, Dominika, to name but a few thank you for the memories. We chose to travel on the Scenic Pearl because the cruise dates and embarkation point matched our schedule. We consider ourselves very lucky to have come to that decision. The crew on board the Pearl are nothing short of stellar, from cruise director and hotel manager all the way down through butlers, bar and restaurant staff, kitchen staff and housekeeping. Everybody greets you and spoils you at every turn. Food is plentiful, tasty, well prepared and varied, and the drinks are endless, starting with Moet and Chandon at breakfast, if you're up for it. The only risk, and it is a real one, is the frequent temptation to over-indulge. All of the staff are upbeat and smiling, and the service at every point is extraordinary. Along the way, we got to visit some truly delightful cities, and to enjoy a number of on board activities and onshore cultural activities along the way. The crew show was a huge laugh, and the trivia nights likewise, and the opera at Breisach Castle was truly lovely. The other passengers were also great fun. With this size vessel, you will always find somebody whose company you can enjoy, or I suppose you can keep to yourself, if that's your preference. It's up to you. Read Less

Romantic Rhine and Moselle Monday 15th Joined the cruise in Basel, Scenic provide phone numbers and email addresses of your ship which in our case was the Scenic Pearl launched in 2011 (no swimming pool yet) so the day before you can send them an email and ask where they are berthed. The taxi ride from the central station in Basel to their berthing point cost just under 36 Swiss Francs. You have barely time to get out of the taxi before the Scenic crew pounce on your luggage and whisk it away to your cabin. No hassle once on board they sit you down in the lounge give you a cool drink and a refreshing towel and after a while ask for your passports which you retrieve the following day. Then you get your room entry cards and are shown to your cabin. At 19:15 you get the welcome and safety briefing and are introduced to the Captain, Hotel Manager and Cruise Director. The cruise director this time was a young lady from Romania by the name of Andreea. I don’t know where Scenic get their cruise directors from but I suspect they have a secret factory where they cast the moulds and break it after each one. As with the previous three Scenic cruise directors, always available, helpful and popping up even on the excursions to give you some helpful information. Once again full marks to a fantastic cruise director. The first night is a buffet dinner with the usual free flow wine. 22:00 All aboard and ship departs for Breisach Germany. Breakfast started at 06:30 and there was even a late riser breakfast up until 10:00. for those not going off the ship on excursions (nobody gets forced to go anywhere). The usual wide and varied choice, a great egg station manned by a young Indonesian who managed to remain cheerful throughout the voyage despite having to get up early every morning and do perfect eggs and omelettes for everyone. In addition there was a menu on the table where additional items could be requested such as Eggs Benedict. The usual buffet lunch choice in the Crystal dining room consisted of three main courses one of which was always vegetarian but often I skipped the main course as the buffet had such a wide and varied selection. For the next two weeks you can forget your diet and the weighing scales, you are going to put on weight. A light lunch option is also available in the River Café but you can forget about that if you think it’s going to control your weight as it’s far too near the pastry and snacks counter. Tuesday 16th Scenic Free Choices included the Black Forest and Colmar also a bike tour Breisach to Colmar. We opted for the pretty village of Colmar one of those small attractive French towns with Petra as our guide. 14:00 All aboard and we sail to Kehl 15:00 Mandatory safety drill. 16:30 Daily port talk with Andreea (earlier today) which usually takes place on a daily basis just before you go into dinner around 19:00 and gives you an explanation of the entertainment on board and the upcoming daily excursions. 18:45 Captain’s Welcome Cocktail Reception followed by the Captain’s Welcome Gala dinner Wednesday 17th Scenic Free Choices: included Mittlelbergheim in the Alsace Wine Region, Strasbourg and shopping with the chef. If you have never been to Strasbourg then that is a must, so picturesque but since we did that last year we opted for the visit to the Alsace Wine region where we had a great introduction to Alsace wine from Pierre Albert of Seltz albert-seltz.com/ who has his own winery and was not only very knowledgeable but also very entertaining, well worth a visit if you are a wine lover. 16:30 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Gambsheim arriving 19:00 19:45 Private concert at Rastatt Palce. Reception drinks, Tour of palace followed by a very enjoyable concert. 23:45 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Mannheim arrives next morning. Thursday 18th Scenic Free choices: Heidelberg & Castle Tour, Sweet Tastes of Heidelberg Tour and Hockenheim Formula 1 Tour. Many times you will have difficulty deciding which of these tours to go on as you can only choose one. We choose the Heidelberg and Castle Tour even though we had done it previously and we got the same entertaining guide Klauss who looks a bit like Albert Einstein. Heidelberg is another of those picturesque places which is a must, your camera will be in overdrive so many fantastic views. 14:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Rudesheim arriving 19:30. 19:30 Barbeque dinner on the sundeck, not something I look forward to, I prefer the more relaxed dining in the Crystal dining room but I gather its popular with the Australians customers. However plenty to eat and drink and as usual very tasty. Friday 19th Scenic Free choices on the Guided Tour of Siegfried’s Musikkabinett and a cable car ride across the vineyards to up to the Germania monument. Some give this a miss as they are afraid of heights and so am I but this is no great deal the cable cars are not that far above ground level and if you miss this you will miss some of the most spectacular views on this tour. I have been there three times and never tire of seeing these views. Rudesheim is another charming little town which you will love, loads of bars, restaurants, souvenir shops and the ship within easy within easy walking distance although Scenic does have a mini train transfer both ways 14:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Koblenz through the Rhine Gorge. Book your place early on the sun deck for this journey though some of the most stunning scenery on this trip as the Scenic staff makes sure you enjoy it along with your favourite drinks. 18:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Koblenz this is just a brief stop before you enter the Moselle River so you have just enough time after dinner to walk around before the ships departs for Cochem at 23:00 but on your return from the Moselle there is a longer stop and tour of Koblenz. Saturday 20th 07:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Cochem. Scenic Free choices on the 20th Guided walking tour of Cochem and visit to the Reichsburg Castle. There will be mini buses to take you up to the castle where you get another informative and entertaining tour of the castle conducted by the curator who was a Dutchman. Cochem is another of those places you will want to return to, whichever way you turn all you can say is wow like so many other places on this cruise. Plenty of free time in Cochem as The Pearl sails for Bernkastel at 09:00 the following day. Sunday 21st Time to relax today with the Scenic Pearl sailing the beautiful Moselle Valley. This was the part I enjoyed the most I just wish we did not have to sail so much during the night but to cover the distance and the 48 locks apparently that is a must. 15:30 Scenic Pearl makes a technical stop to allow all bike riders to disembark and pedal the 25km from Traben Trabach to Bernkastel while us less active ones enjoyed the views from the sun deck with a nice glass of wine as we covered the same distance. 18:30 Scenic Pearl Arrives in Bernkastel. Monday 22nd Scenic Free choices, Luxembourg City tour, Bernkastel Walking Tour and Trier City Tour, I wish I could have done all three but ended up in Luxemburg where we had an interesting tour of the old city and a bus drive through their financial centre where they seem to have banks as far as the eye can see, thankfully outside the old part of the city which has been preserved. 21:00 All aboard as we sail back along the Moselle River to our next stop at Koblenz. I personally could have spent the whole two weeks just sailing along the Moselle and it’s a shame that we spent so little time there and did a lot of the sailing at night. I hope one day Scenic just has a Moselle river cruise I gather the ship can travel as far as France along the Moselle but the guide in Koblenz said that after Luxemburg it gets a bit industrial and is not very scenic. Monday 23rd 12:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Koblenz Walking Tour of Koblenz second time for us and we choose the same guide Elmar who was just as entertaining and interesting as last time. Then it was the cable car ride to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress probably not something for those who don’t like heights which I don’t but having done it once before it was worth it, not just to see this magnificent fortress but also for the view over Koblenz and the confluence of the Moselle River as it flows into the Rhine. Here we also had the Scenic Sundowners drinks and snacks. I have to say here that this time the catering was not as good as last years and at one stage they even suggested we pay for a second drink until the ever present cruise director Andreea stepped in. 22:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails for Duisburg. Wednesday 24th 08:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Duisburg. Scenic Free Choices included a visit to the Zollverein Coal Mines Site tour, a former coal mine which has now been turned into a museum and is an UNESCO World Heritage site. Most people choose a walking tour of the charming village of Xanten followed by a Duisburg Brewery visit I guess that says a lot about all of us that we were more interested in the brewery than the industrial past of the Rhur area of Germany. 13:00 Scenic Pearl sails for Maastricht (Netherlands) Thursday 25th 10:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Maastricht. Maastricht walking tour another picturesque small town this time in the Netherlands and of course Scenic provide another informative and entertaining guide for the walk. 22:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Nijmegen. Friday 26th 13:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Nijmegen Scenic Free Choices included a Guided biking Tour of Nijmegen. A Guided Walking tour of Nijmegen or a visit to the Arnhem Airborne Museum. We opted for the walking tour, I didn’t think that Nijmegen was as interesting or as picturesque as Maastricht. 19:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl sails to Veere. Saturday 27th 12:00 Scenic Pearl arrives in Veere. 13:00 Scenic Free Choices included a Delta works visit a Guided biking Tour of Veere a Guided walking Tour of Veere. We choose the Delta works which is the Dutch flood defences on the North Sea another must see, an engineering marvel. This was followed later that evening by a choice of dining out at one of three restaurants. Our choice was the Westkaap built on a dyke overlooking the North Sea. The food was average but the restaurant given that it was already a hot day was like a sauna. 21:30 All aboard Scenic Pearl departs for Antwerp. Sunday 28th 09:00 Scenic Pearl departs arrives in Antwerp. 09:00 Scenic Free Choices included Bruges Excursion or a Guided walking tour of Antwerp. Bruges is the Dutch equivalent of Heidelberg or Strasbourg your camera will have a busy time in Bruges. Your free time is spent visiting the chocolate shops recommended by your tour guide who steers you away from the mass produced stuff to the genuine Belgium chocolate. Don’t miss a visit to Bruges. 16:00 All aboard Scenic Pearl departs for Amsterdam. 18:45 Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Reception. 19:00 Captain’s Farewell Gala dinner Monday 29th When you wake up the Scenic Pearl will already be docked in Amsterdam, disembarkation. Please note the arrival times are approximate but it seemed to be the case we were always ahead of time arriving. Once again a superb crew, the hotel manager Miguel remarked at the farewell dinner it consisted of over 20 nationalities who all managed to work together with no problems. Nothing was too much trouble and while you were getting this service you were usually sailing along often trying to eat the next meal or enjoying drinks, snacks etc and the most wonderful sights slipping past the windows. Portobello restaurant is of course wonderful not only for the food and wine but for the people you sit alongside and meet a wonderful experience every time. A similar experience with Table La Rive although more for the variety of wine with that particular dinner. I haven’t said that much about the evening’s entertainment as usually after dinner all I wanted to do was retire to my cabin and relax. However each evening and sometimes during the day there was something going on in the River Café with an entertainment group or a demonstration or quiz and of course late night snacks and free flow drinks. Each day chocolates and small snacks are left in your cabin often untouched along with the mini bar, I think at most we used less than a handful of bottles having had sufficient to drink during with the meals or even the occasional afternoon drink in the river café. However I do miss the bar of chocolate which they used to have in the fridge but perhaps it’s just as well they took it away and provided something lighter with not so much chocolate. The cabin slippers you are allowed to take with you but this year they have replaced the white slippers with black ones and for some reason these do nothing but leave a trail of black fluff so I hope they go back to the white slippers. Also the soap seemed to be in short supply we were given one small bar for the whole cruise and also had to request extra shower gel. However the bathroom which for a junior suite also includes a bath is well equipped with an excellent shower, hairdryer and toiletries. The cabin gets cleaned and made up twice a day and with an allowance of 4 garments a day for ironing and a kg of free laundry per cruise (this for the junior suite). When I left anything for ironing it was usually back by 5 p.m. the same day. My favourite meals: the buffet breakfast and lunch where the choice was wide and varied along with a wonderful young man who did the best omelettes and eggs you could wish for. For me the highlight of the tour was the Moselle if only that could be a lot longer I think that journey along with the Rhine Gorge must be the most wonderful in all of Europe. We took our first river cruise in 2014 Amsterdam to Budapest with Scenic who were more an accidental choice given that the previous couple of river cruise companies I tried were full. This cruise was our fourth with Scenic and before even setting foot on board for this one I had already booked my Douro river cruise with Scenic for 2017 and I am currently working on plans for Bordeaux in 2018 but cannot book that until next March. I have been on Scenic beforehand and really enjoyed that cruise and wanted to do it again but from a different location. Right from the start when we were met on the Wharf, the whole trip was fantastic, the Crew, Cruise Director everyone, looked after us, nothing was problem. The food, the cabins, the tours were great and I really recommend them to anyone, hopefully I will be able to travel with them again. The day trips were great, the pace on them just right, with really good guides, though I think at times, they did overload us with information. The length of the day trips were just right, we were able to return to the ship for lunch each day. Service in the Lounge was great, never had to wait for Waiter to serve us and the nightly entertainment was great, especially the Cruise Pianist. Our Tour Director Andeea was really good, her explanations on the next days events, were professional and very clear. The Captain made sure everything went well and was only too happy to answer you if you had a question and always greeted you when you passed him, also with a smile and could be seen helping out when docking if the crew needed and extra hand. My husband and I chose Scenic because it was an all inclusive river cruise. We flew into Zurich Switzerland and enjoyed a few days of sightseeing. We were picked up at our hotel by a driver from Scenic to meet our ship in Basel. We were greeted and welcomed before we got on the ship and our luggage was taken to our suite by the cabin attendants. A glass of champagne in hand and we started to explore our new home for 7 nights. Our suite had a balcony, so we would have coffee brought to our suite in the morning by the butler and marvelled at the view of the Rhine River. We were invited to dine at Table La Rive and Portobello, which is a great way to meet new friends. When we were on shore excursions, the guides were locals, so they knew the area and we did not have to tip anyone, again, all inclusive. After the shore excursions, my husband and I would stop for a drink in the lounge and the server remembered what we liked to drink and would bring it to us, with a big smile and asked about our afternoon. We also had a bath tub in our bathroom as well as a glass shower. Laundry service was also at no charge, all included. Disembarkation was just as smooth as ever, because we stayed a few extra days in Amsterdam, we were one of the last ones to leave the ship, and we were not rushed to get off the ship. First class river cruise, first class staff, and very organized. I would highly recommend Scenic. Read Less

This was my first cruise ever. I traveled with my sister-in-law and we had a wonderful experience with Scenic. We took the Rhine River cruise on the Scenic Pearl and the whole experience was wonderful! The whole crew were so friendly and attentive to our every need. Our butler Haris was just so wonderful and when we needed his services he was right there within 2 minutes. All of our excursions were great and they had a separate guide for our "gentle walkers" group. So those who were not able to walk as fast did not have to miss out. The room was great and loved the sun room balcony. The meals were all delicious and the food choices were plentiful. I cannot say enough about how friendly and attentive the whole crew was. I loved the entertainment and the farewell show that the crew put on for us was hilarious ! Will definitely choose Scenic again when I get the chance. Read Less

Our Golden Wedding anniversary treat did not get off to a good start! Due to (apparently regular) delays at Amsterdam airport our flights to and from this hub (hub - hub) to Basel were delayed but at least we eventually arrived. But our luggage didn't! Nor did that of three other couples who had taken the same flights from Manchester. So, only after filling in the appropriate forms did we meet our transport to Scenic Pearl for the cruise to Amsterdam. And from that point on things only got better and better (despite only having the clothes we had travelled in!) Our Cruise Director Frank was quick to a) " get on to our case" [sorry about the pun!] and b) to assure us that Scenic would launder our clothes at no charge until our luggage turned up. The crew were quick to make us feel welcome, relaxed and at home - as they did through the whole journey. Overnight to Strasbourg and an afternoon which was to have been a walking tour of the city. Sadly, as there was no promise of our clothes arriving we skipped the walk and took to the shops for a few essential items, only to meet our cases arriving at the ship as we re-boarded. All this thanks mainly to the numerous calls Frank made the previous evening and that morning. We cannot thank him enough! Now able to relax, we enjoyed 6 more days of luxury, with service of the highest quality. I will not go into details about life on board, places we visited and sights we saw, except to say that whatever you expect from Scenic's publicity is more than matched by the reality. In every respect our cruise delivered more than we had anticipated. Food, entertainment, tours and facilities all to a standard which would be hard to beat (several times we had to pass through ships of other lines to reach our tour bus - no names, but from what we saw we were all certain Scenic Pearl was far superior). Above all - the crew! Whether domestic staff, kitchen, bar and service, or deck crew - all were happy to help, always smiling and enquiring about our well being (and not your standard "have a nice day" - always makes me cringe!). I've mentioned Frank, for he was our first "hero", but I could mention many others who made us feel special. And isn't that what you want and expect from a luxury cruise? This was our first ever cruise (we don't do "oceans" very well!) but over the years we've stayed in some very high class hotels throughout Europe and north America. Scenic Pearl is well up there in the list of places we'd go back to. Well done Scenic. We'll be back (but we need to save up a bit first!) Read Less

For our 40th anniversary my wife and I settled on a once in a lifetime river cruise on the Rhine between Basel and Amsterdam. In determining which cruise line to use I did a lot of research and attended seminars before settling on Scenic. The all inclusive aspect of a Scenic river cruise really caught my fancy and in the end we were extremely glad we went with them. We were met at the ship with everyone on the staff welcoming us home, and for 8 days that is exactly what it felt like (without having to look at the kids mess). All details were expertly handled and the staff were both professional and friendly as they attended to any whim or fancy we may have had. The cabins were spacious and the balconies with the windows that slide up and down mean't we could sit out in any weather. The food at each meal was incredible, and having an area of the ship were we could have a light lunch or dinner was great (after all you can only eat so much). The tour options at each stop along the river were well planned and executed by our extremely effective cruise director. There were plenty of options to choose from or you could do your own thing if you chose. All in All a great experience and we would travel with Scenic again any time. Read Less

Our 7 days aboard the Scenic Pearl were a great introduction to river cruising. We had great weather and saw so many sites. Embarkation and disembarkation were very well organized. There were 163 people on board for the trip. The excursions offered and the ones we took were very good, not too long bus rides if needed, gentle walker group for some of the sporty sites, small groups for the excursions helped make the excursions fun and interesting. The afternoon of sailing by all the castles was the reason I selected this cruise. It was just great, the CD gave some background about the various castles as we went by. There was plenty of room on the deck for viewing. The excursion to the Sprey Museum in Mannheim was a delightful morning and saw so many different pieces. But the Mechanical Music Museum in Rudesheim was just enchanting. We thoroughly enjoyed all the excursions. Read Less

Just finished 15 days on Scenic Pearl, Basel to Amsterdam. From the moment they greet you everything is first class all the way. It's cruising in a 5 star hotel. All crew excellent, food different every day and all excellent meals. Entertainment great and varied. Lots of tours at each port to pick from and tour guides wonderful. One exception though. An Historic Steam Train Ride thru Black Forrest is a tour offered, we took it, and being that one of us had been in the actual Black Forrest this tour was NOT in the forrest but in the valley far away from the Black Forrest, so don't do this tour. We had cabin 308 on Diamond Deck. Mid ship cabins are best ones to get and if you can afford Diamond Deck (top deck) then do it. Cabin was spacious and well appointed, they even thought to supply ear plugs for light sleepers. Their attention to detail is exceptional. The balconies have two chairs and a small table and are lovely to sit on and watch the world go by and also great if you want room service meals. We will book another Scenic River Tour and have no hesitation in giving them a 5 star review. Read Less
