Our cruise on Scenic Opal was from Basel to Amsterdam commencing 25 July for one week. We had a balcony cabin 216. Embarkation was poorly managed and for reasons never fully explained the cruise started at Strasbourg, The rep at the airport did not mention the change and many of us endured fully loaded bladders during the 1hr 45 min trip. We subsequently found that a small group new of this arrangement well in advance. The ship is clean and tidy with smooth and comfortable progress. The cabins are small but clean. The so called inside/outside balcony area takes up a significant amount of living space and is behind the cabin curtains. Hence when these are drawn the cabin feels smaller than it should. This appears to be a design flaw. When docked the curtains needed closing for the majority of the time because we were either up against a dock wall or another boat. Scenic has a policy of sharing berths with other boats of the Scenic group (Emerald etc). This means that even if there are many spare berths (and there usually are) you become locked in, which makes the cabin atmosphere unpleasant. A money saving procedure despite the high cost of the cruise. Breakfast and lunch are buffet and the food is adequate. Service can be chaotic with a limited number of waiters trying to cope and naturally becoming stressed. Different excursions often start and return together which overwhelms the staff and creates a frazzled atmosphere. Dinner was awful. The quality of the ingredients was poor and the chefs were not capable of making anything of them. As an example, there was a special gala night dinner where the soup was inedible, the mashed potato the consistency of custard, the lobster a soft tasteless mess in its shell and steak so tough it was barely edible. Service was variable but the staff tried hard to manage difficult situations imposed on them. If Scenic reads this then our waiters George and Alexander were excellent and need a bonus. Our cruise director was incapable of relaying information with any clarity. She talked endlessly in an inappropriate life and soul of the party manner, which became extremely waring. Daily briefs on ports to be visited became so long and facile that we escaped elsewhere. I understand that the cruise director has the impossible job of being all things to all men/women. Some do it well but ours certainly did not. Ports and excursions were excellent but could not make up for the poor food, variable service and cabin shut in atmosphere. The cruise became a bit Butlinesque, although with a very high price tag. Never again Read Less

After seeing this cruise promoted on Getaway TV program we liked the route. Also we thought we were going to be getting food at a level we are used to on Seabourn and Silversea cruises. Unfortunately the food was the major let down. warm to cool for whole cruise even though many people complained. Answer was to get the plates hot. Also first nights buffet was worse than you can get in ordinary pubs in Melbourne. Food was all the same taste, slow cooked meat, very insipid. People that had cruised late last year on the sister ship to this were the first to complain as they said it was well below what they had had before. It was only the second cruise the boat had ever done with a new crew and only a week to get it sorted. Staff were nice and tried hard but lack of English did not help. How you translate White Russian cocktail into glass of Champagne on two nights running i don't know. Also if you ordered any variation to the menu i.e. leave something off plate that seemed almost impossible to comprehend. Also the layout of tables in the dinning room was ridiculous. So cramped waiters could not get past without bashing the back of your chair all the time. And in the case of the buffets you got bashed from everyone keeping getting up to get food. This is terrible especially as these cruises are aimed at the aged and on that basis lots of people with reduced mobility. Also the seating in the lounge was much the same, interior designer gone mad. One poor lady did fall on her face trying to manoeuvre through a maze of chairs and tables of all different types. On board entertainer was like a wet fish. Should have just played muisac through the speakers, would have been just as good. Sound system was awful and he obviously had no clue how to work it. Crew entertainment and crew disco night was best fun. They seemed to be able to get the sound right. Also there were quite a few people on board who had had cruise dates cancelled due to late delivery of boat and so were already a bit angry with Scenics response to all their replanning. Think this is possibly a case of a company expanding too fast and not able to keep a handle on their quality. Only river cruise we had ever done was with Avalon and the food quality was far higher than Scenic provided. Cant say i could recommend scenic and won't bother to pay this sort of money again. Heard good reviews plus family/friends already booked. The staff was terrific. From Beate-cruise organizer to wait staff of GEORGE, JANKO, BRANISLOV and MARISIO. To Maria room attendee. They were all courteous, friendly, attentive and just plain NICE people. Always served us with patience and a smile. They were the best part of our trip. The crew was also terrific in the smoothness of our journey. I would suggest snacks for the tables in the bar area as I went and bought my own chips and peanuts. Needless to say 2 days later snacks were served with our beverages. Pringles just didn't do it for us. MISS VICKIS CHIPS would be a great idea. Most of the tours were informative. The least favorite was Cologne. The tour guide spoke to long and really nothing to see except the church. Food was delicious. The cooks etc work very hard. The back drop of what the whole ship does is incredible. From Captain and crew to sous chef is amazing. GTEAT JOB Read Less

My friend suggested this cruise and it sounded wonderful. Overall it was! The dining staff really made the cruise worthwhile. They were friendly, extremely professional and hardworking. They really took the time to make sure you felt looked after. The Chef was excellent and important because I have a food allergy. The food was plentiful and there was a great variety. I felt the off ship tours were interesting but sometimes the bus trips to and from the ship seemed long. Our cruise Director was enthusiastic and informative but the many introductions of staff and crew went on too long. One introduction on the first day would have been enough. My favourite part was being on the ship and cruising on the river. It wasn’t always picturesque, especially through the industrial areas, but I still enjoyed the breeze and the sunshine on the top deck. On the second day, I put two blouses out for ironing only. Apparently, for the first time ever, laundry went missing. I had to ask several times, but I do believe they were doing their best to locate my tops. They were finally returned to me late on day 7 of an 8 day cruise. Laundry service was included but obviously we were hesitant to try it again. The much anticipated in room mini bar was a disappointment because it offered mostly alcohol. Very limited snack selection. Pringles and biscuits, and not every day. At this point, I’m not sure that I would travel with Scenic again, but I would definitely enjoy another river cruise. Read Less

We just returned from a one week cruise on the Scenic Opal. Overall, we had a wonderful time, with a few disappointments. We were told that they would only pick us up at the Zurich Airport, so we stayed there overnight and arrived at the designated meeting spot at 11:45 as directed only to be told that we would not depart for Basel until 2:00. When we arrived at the ship, the welcome lunch was long over. I suppose we could have ordered room service, but we were not fully aware of what was offered, and no attempts were made to serve us lunch. To be truly honest, there is always some type of light food available in the bar area, and often the pastries there are far superior to those offered in the dining room. Our room was small, as expected, but very nicely laid out. The bathroom was modern, and everything worked effortlessly. My only complaint was that that there were two sliding doors, one for each closet, but one had to be fully closed before opening the other one. This caused all kinds of confusion as my husband and I tried to get dressed at the same time in the small room. Other than that, the room was very nice and the bed was very comfortable. Scenic’s unique sliding glass balcony worked very well and gave us an unobstructed view of the surrounding countryside. Our cabin stewardess was wonderful. We rarely saw her, but our room was always made up quickly twice a day. We saw our “butler” the very first day, but then only saw him tending the bar, working in Portobello, etc, leaving him little time to do anything for us. Some people seemed to have been able to order room service for breakfast, but there were no forms left in our room. The food was one of the lower points of the cruise. Breakfast and lunch were very good, but dinner often left something to be desired. Waiters rarely encouraged you to order breakfast or lunch from the elaborate menu placed on each table. Our “special” dinner at Portobello, was just terrible, watery minestrone, oddly flavored mushroom soup with foam, horrible “osso buco” and polenta, marginal tiramisu. It is very easy to cook excellent Italian food, but if you can’t, please leave it off the menu. The cannelloni was also terrible, and was offered more than once as a vegetarian alternative on the main dinner menu. I also felt that the pastry selections, of which there was usually only one at dinner, could have been a little more imaginative. A horrid rhubarb tart was offered as the only dessert on the final night. The other three choices were usually some sort of ice cream, a cheese plate or a fruit plate, that usually included too much apple and unripe melon and few berries of any sort. I was extremely disappointed with the dinner selection and quality on the Scenic Opal, although all of the staff were friendly and accommodating. Tours were well organized with excellent local guides, but I wish they didn’t all start at or before 9:00AM or earlier, causing a rush to eat breakfast and leave the ship. There was nothing offered in the afternoon, even though we often remained in port. I have to agree with a previous reviewer who said that the seats on the sundeck were so uncomfortable, it was almost impossible to spend much time up there. Kurt, the activities coordinator was wonderful, very accessible and organized everything beautifully, right down to our departures, which were well planned to the minute. We even had someone meet us at the airport to help with checking in. All in all, we had a very nice time. I just wish that there were afternoon tours offered and that the food in the dining room at dinner would have been better. Read Less

Firstly, the Romantic Rhine Mosel cruise is about the scenery, and we were not disappointed. The Scenic Opal is a well appointed ship, with staff that are attentive to any request. My wife's gluten free requirements, such as bread service and varied pasta alternatives was efficient and was varied with all meals. Occasionally, her bread service was already at the table when we arrived. Portobellos option is one to book for sure. Upscale food and wine selection will impress. Good job. The availability of different types of seating options in the lounge, hard/soft and or couch/chair provides a good alternative for any seating need. The availability of a public 24 hr coffee maker, for up to 6 different coffee choices is a plus. Varied tea selection will also satisfy most needs. The choice of available excursions, is varied and will satisfy the needs of most seasoned travellers. It is great they are all included and no additional charges apply. This was a special 10th Wedding Anniversary cruise, so we purchased the most expensive Royal Panorama Suite, #336. We were hoping for the best experience of our lives. I would have rated my experience 5 stars if this cabin was deserving. See cabin review below. Read Less

We cruised on the brand new Opal on her third cruise. We selected Scenic because their Rhine/Mosel cruise is 14 nights and includes several ports other lines do not. Another reason was everything is included -- all tips, drinks, shore excursions with multiple excursion choices offered in each port. The ship is gorgeous and incredibly "high tech." Most of the shore excursions were outstanding including ones to Zollverein coal mines, the Delta Water Works, the Arnheim Airborne Museum, and shopping with the chef. Scenic included several special events -- a cocktail reception and concert in the beautiful Rastatt Palace, cocktails at the Ehrenbretstein Fortress in Koblenz, and dinner at a choice of local restaurants near Veere. These were outstanding. The service from our butler and cabin attendant was super. The service in the lounge and dinning room, not so great. Food was a disappointment. Breakfast and lunch were buffets. The breakfast was the same every morning. We learned half way through the cruise you could ask the waiter what the breakfast special was (one example French toast). Problem was getting the attention of a waiter. While lunch on other lines were buffets, I do remember alternative cooked to order options. The only really great lunch was the "asparagus" lunch. Dinners in the dining room were boring. A choice of two appetizers, two soups, three mains, and two desserts. The meat always seemed to be overcooked roast, pot roast types, or stews. Definitely not high end food! Service was uneven. Portobello, the fine dining restaurant by reservation had excellent, innovative Italian food with good service. The ship also offered light breakfasts -- rolls and fruit and lunch--premade sandwiches, pastries, and pizza in the River Café section of the lounge. These were good. Fortunately the ship spent lots of time in the ports, so we often chose to eat at restaurants on shore. The uneven service might have been because this was only the third cruise. Included alcoholic beverages and wines were good. The ship made an effort with entertainment -- often bringing onboard local groups. Would I travel with Scenic cruises again? Absolutely. All my expectations were met except for the food and service in the dining room. I would just expect a four star experience with three star food. Read Less

We are first time vacationers with Scenic and we wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again. Since riverboat cruising is new to us, we relied entirely on Scenic to book our flights, provide airport transfers and tours. They did not disappoint. We did the Rhine Highlights 8 day Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam on the Opal, their newest riverboat built in 2015. Of note, the hull of this ship is designed to travel in both low and high water levels when other boats would not be able. Deluxe Cabin #208 is well appointed with all the comforts of home, only scaled down because after all, this is a boat! We had no problems sleeping comfortably. We were very impressed with the shower pressure and the various spray selections provided. The boat/ship is contemporary in design and decor with space for everyone. Besides the view on the top deck, covered areas with loungers, chairs and tables, a running/walking track and small pool, this space is a great gathering place to meet new people while taking in the sights. Dining buffet or a la cart, the menu choices will not disappoint. Everything including the recommended wine/food pairings is thought of for your dining experience. You will not be able to escape adding on some weight. The arranged tours are well thought out and planned. You only need to ask questions, make a choice, show up and leave the rest to them. Last but not least, the staff. Everyone on the ship is there to make your time with them THE BEST!!! I cannot single out any of them as they were all very attentive, friendly and a good reason to cruise with them. We plan on booking with Scenic again. Read Less

We were supposed to board at Basel but due to a lock problem we started at what was the second port Breisach not a problem. We had been with Scenic before so knew what to expect and it was all as we thought it would be. Due to any early flight we arrived about 1pm and were told to wait in the lounge as boarding was officially 3pm. After a quick drink we were asked by Marketa the hotel manager so register at reception and we could go straight to our cabin registration took about 30 seconds! Excellent cabin plenty of storage space and the balcony system gives you a nice open atmosphere. Later had the orientation by Richard the cruise director and realized we had met him before on his previous sea cruise director roles. He was excellent throughout the journey very knowledgeable very helpful and very funny (even if we had heard some of his stories on one of the sea cruises!) Dining was what we expected and gave the opportunity to sit with different people each night we met lots of interesting folk from all parts of the world. Excursions were varied and enjoyable with very knowledgeable guides The staff helped to make the trip even better with their friendly and helpful attitudes too many to mention individually but special thanks to our butler Marius who couldn't do more for us (even bringing a cognac nightcap to the cabin Thanks) Would we go again with Scenic Definitely!! All inclusive. From the very convenient boarding to the easy departing trip was top notch. Our cabin was well-appointed. This vessel is relatively new, in 2015, I think. Balcony added comfortable space. Beds were deluxe clouds .Extremely well executed program of events. Dining was 5-star. Dining service best I've experenced- far above QE2. Kudos to Zoran and Branislan who provided me a very memorable dining experience. Cabin 324 well-appointed. Thanks to my son for this Mother's Day present I shall forever remember. Also, luckily, the weather was perfect. Tulips were gorgeous. Alex executed excursions etc with great aplomb. The stars were in alignment. I don't know how anything could have worked out better. Also, we think the Basel-Amsterdam is the more desirable. Scenic provided limo service both ways. I would hope to have the opportunity to travel with them again. Evening entertainment was fun and not so loud that you could still carry on a conversation if you wanted to. Cabin was kept spotless as it was cleaned twice a day with a turn down service as well. Personal laundry was done same day. We had the best waiter in the business I am sure. Zoran made my dining experience excel. Loved the fact that one night we partied with the staff. Everyone was like a friend. Lots of choice for menu items and the wines were delicious. Leaving the ship was effortless, and you didn't feel rushed. Everything was arranged for you. We (my husband, 72 and I, 67) had cruised with Scenic before, two years ago and we have been on numerous ocean cruises. Scenic (which attracts mostly Brits and Australians with some Canadians and Americans) makes the trip so easy and enjoyable. Embarkation went like a dream - we were met at the Basel airport, transferred to the ship, fed lunch and relaxed in the lounge until the cabins were ready at 3pm. The ships are amazingly spacious, the food is incredible and the crew is never without a smile - always accommodating and pleasant. Ports and shore excursions are well chosen and the local guides are knowledgeable and fun. Perhaps best of all, a cruise on Scenic is truly ALL inclusive. Tips are included (even for the local guides and bus drivers), drinks (top shelf spirits and wines) are included and always very generous - even one load of free laundry is included on a two week cruise. They even include bottled water with every excursion and a map of the destination as well. The dining room is lovely with great views. We enjoyed the food very much and we are "foodies". Breakfast and lunch were buffet with a wonderful selection and you could always order off the menu as well. Food was always hot and delicious with many local specialties. You can have a mimosa with breakfast and wine/beer is served with lunch. Dinner was to order and generally offered four courses with vegetarian and healthy choices as well. Over the course of the two weeks we had beef, duck, chicken, many types of fish, pork and lamb. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. There is also a cafe on the lounge deck which offers early/late breakfast and light lunch, along with fruit and pastries during the day. Always available in the lounge are various coffee drinks and many types of tea. Being a river cruise, the entertainment is not as abundant or flashy as that on an ocean cruise, but we had performances several nights by local artists. The sun deck up top is a great place to sit and watch the world go by, take a dip in the pool/hot tub or walk the small walking track. There is also a fitness center (a state of the art treadmill, elliptical and bike as well as free weights) and a salon where hair services and massages/treatments are available. The service is impeccable - the staff is so well trained and seem to really care if you are having a good time. Our cruise director, Patrik, was as good as I have ever experienced. He was knowledgeable, informative, patient and funny. His port talks each day explained exactly what to expect on each excursion. The wait staff, bar staff, cabin staff and everyone were just so pleasant and helpful. Our butler, Daniel, came by several times to ask if he could do anything for us. The ports were well chosen and the excursions really provided something for everyone. They ran like clockwork. If you don't want to join an excursion you can always take your "Tailormade" from your cabin (a type of GPS unit pre-loaded with story/history of the port) and do one of the tours on that. they also have electric assisted bikes for use (we did not try those). Scenic also provides a Scenic Enrich experience and a Scenic Sundown experience on each cruise. For our Scenic Enrich we had a tour of a castle and then a classical concert, complete with wine. Our Scenic Sundown was taking a cable car up to another castle and listening to local music while overlooking the city below. Disembarkation went equally as smoothly as embarkation. When it was time to leave for the Amsterdam airport we had a full size bus for 10 of us, and the Scenic rep at the airport even came in with us to help with printing our boarding passes. I would recommend Scenic to anyone! Read Less

This trip was recommended by our travel agent as it fit into a meeting that I attended in Basel. All aspects of the trip were delightful - it was busy however with daily excursions. We were blessed with good weather for most of the trip. The staff and especially the cruise director made the trip fantastic. The ship captain and crew lended to feeling of security and safety. The fellow travelers were for the most part compatible and easy to make friends. There were ample opportunities for excursions and often two or three choices at each port. There was a large bicycling group aboard that had their own agenda and apparently had a very nice experience. Three gourmet meals a day, including lamb chops for breakfast. The separate dinners were enjoyable, and the dining crew made us feel as family. There were no children on the ship and this was most appreciated in that river boats are not large and capable of entertaining youth! Read Less

The only thing I didn't like was getting up reasonably early every morning to go on a trip. Having said that we did see a lot of lovely places. All the crew were excellent and very friendly. The on- shore trips were well organised and everything went to time. The special private concert we went to see was a new experience and most enjoyable. Would like to have seen a few more of the passengers making more of an effort to dress up a little more formal for such a special event. Our flight to Basel was only slightly delayed and because it was an afternoon departure from Bristol we only just made the ship in time before it left at 17.00hrs so maybe an earlier flight would have been better. We did not see anything of Basal. Read Less

Altho there is a lift the stairs are shallow and easy to use. Even up to the top deck, which the lift does not reach, he was fine as there are good rails to hold on to either side. Everything is included in the price - meals, snacks, anytime any type of drink, excursions, tips, entertainment, room service. The food was of very good quality and never repeated. It was great to have different wines from a variety of regions of Europe. There was a thorough and fun port talk every evening by our superb cruise director Richard Grey (altho personally we would have liked more detailed advance information). The excursions were very good and efficiently run. There was always lots to do and something to see going on on the river as well as the ever changing views. We enjoyed going through the locks as well. It was a little disturbing at night on the occasions when we were moving but ear plugs may have helped - we just got up to see what was going on. The ship is beautiful. Very clean and stylish. The staff were absolutely brilliant. Professional and friendly. They never showed any stress even if they were rushed off their feet it dint show. nothing was too much trouble. Second to none. On provisioning days we observed everyone helping. Have done over 25 Ocean cruises from large to small. This was first river cruise. Although Scenic has been around for over 25 years, they have only been marketing in US for a few years. Picked Scenic based on independent ratings on line, as this was highest rated as of 2016. Was not disappointed. While I have seen many lines market as pretty much all-inclusive, this is the real deal. Based on value, this was the best I have ever experienced. With the exception of some free time expenses on land and river portions, I never reached for my credit card or wallet. The only extra on board was for some laundry service. Tips included, all food and drinks (including alcohol) included, all excursions included. Beautiful ship. Great service. If you want to be surrounded by Americans, may not be the best choice for you. This is an Australian company and vast majority of our ship mates were Aussies, Kiwis, Brits and Canadians.....the friendliest and most fun people in the world. Also, gauge your dining expectations based on the small size of kitchen facilities on a river boat. Food was more than acceptable and was not gourmet level. If you are a foodie, stick to upscale ocean cruises. Individual GPS system allows easy listening on guided tours, create your own tour on every stop, sitting on your balcony and having every point of interest pointed out as you sail by. Read Less

Just returned from our first ever River Boat Cruise - we booked with Scenic to do the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam. We chose Scenic because it seemed to be the best value for money after attending many information sessions with various other cruise liners. Our experienced started with very helpful reservation staff for booking flights and hotels to extend our before and after cruise From the moment we stepped onto the ship it was amazing. our cabin was on the lower level and was more than comfortable for our needs, most of the time we enjoyed sailing sitting up on the top deck socializing with new friends, All the staff on Scenic Opal were very attentive and professional and quite talented from the show they put on one evening. Dining catered to everyone's needs/diet restrictions from formal dining to casual lunch in the Opal bar. One day we had a BBQ lunch up on the top deck, the food was great, the weather was perfect and we were setting sail for Cologne. Cologne was our last stop before entering Holland and beer fest was in full swing with lots of activities going on along the water front. Sadly following our excursion we had to be back on the boat and we were all wishing we had more time to enjoy some local beer. As we boarded all the crew were dressed in traditional German dress and were greeting us with nice cold German beer, even lunch that day was a German theme so we enjoyed our own private beer fest. There was 150 guest on board and at no time did we ever feel crowded, the ship is well laid out with lots of seating on the upper deck so everyone got to enjoy the great views sailing through the Rhine Gorge. Sadly our cruise came to an end but we are looking forward to cruising with Scenic again and are already planning our 2017 vacation. Read Less

My wife and I sailed on the Scenic Opal on the river Rhine from Sep. 17th to the 26th from Basel (Switzerland) to Amsterdam (Netherlands) We have never had such a wonderful time, although we were on the Danube 4 years ago with Scenic. We were in one of the Royal Balcony cabins which was spacious and comfortable. The Butler and the cabin attendant saw to all our needs which included our Wedding anniversary and my birthday. Dining was excellent, breakfast was a buffet (very extensive) and lunch and dinner were a la carte (waiter served). Port and shore excursions were interesting and informative all made exciting by the Tour Director. Travelling to the Ship from the Zurich airport (luxury coach) and returning to the Amsterdam airport (limousine) was handled by Scenic. Luggage transportation was all handled well as our cases were in the cabin before we got there. If you are going on a river cruise look no further than Scenic. Read Less

Choose this because of the all inclusive package, flights, trips, food, beverages and tips all included. Was unable to explore Basel due to a problem with the river lock and had to embark at Breisach. Cabin was compact, well provided and spotless. Service to cabin excellent. Mini bar topped up daily. Food on board was to a very high standard with plenty of choices. There were choices for different trips at each port, which were very well organised with local guides. The ships crew were friendly and hard working as was the staff in the restaurant and bar. The organised evening entertainment was very enjoyable. This was our second cruise with this company and were both excellent, the first cruise was on the Danube. We find it hard to find any faults with this holiday. The travel arrangements went like clockwork both ways. We will use this company again and highly recommend them. Read Less

Best holiday ever! Service was first class. Food was amazing. Ship was lovely and staff was fabulous. Couldn't find a single flaw if we tried. All we can say is go and enjoy. The excursions were exceptional and kept us busy. Fellow passengers were all very welcoming. All processes worked well - easy embarkation - daily stops well organized. Cabin was stunning and well equipped. Staff were professional and caring. Lots to see and do. Didn't have a chance to try the bikes but they looked great. Same for the pool. Alex the cruise director was fantastic. He knew exactly how to keep things moving and was very personable and extremely well organized. Isn't meet a single staff person who didn't seem engaged. The open bar and snack station were excellent. The special dinner was fabulous and the scenery was truly amazing. Would do it all again in a heartbeat!!! Read Less

My friend and I wanted at least 10 nights onboard, and the dates had to fit in with her work commitments. We also wanted a better than standard cabin. Scenic's Rhine and Moselle fitted our criteria, and we had heard good reports from friends who travelled with them. The Scenic Opal is less than 2 years old. It is a really beautifully appointed and laid out ship. Our cabin (203) was classed as a Junior Balcony Suite and was well worth the extra money - great layout, spacious, plenty of hanging and storage space (2 women travelling together !), fantastic bathroom with a decent sized shower. Our personal butler Patrick was wonderful - nothing was too much trouble. Indeed all of the staff were excellent, always on hand, would do anything asked of them with a smile on their face, and always enquiring that everything was ok. The cuisine was first class. All of the activities we did we thoroughly enjoyed, and best of all they were all included so there was never any worry about getting in, or the cost. It was great to have electric bikes available so you could go for a little ride around if you wanted to do your own thing. In fact doing your own thing when you felt like it was so easy - our Cruise Director, Patrick, was always available for advice, provision of maps and local knowledge, suggestions and encouragement. And when we returned, he was waiting at the head of the gangplank to see if we'd had a good time. All alcoholic beverages were included (Moet champagne for breakfast !), and one of the unexpected highlights was sitting on the sundeck of our ship one evening while docked in Maastricht and being able to listen to the Andre Rieu concert taking place outdoors in the town square, while sipping an after dinner drink and watching the sunset. There were several ports that I really knew nothing about prior to the trip - but I enjoyed each and every one of them, sometimes just walking around and soaking up the local scene, having a coffee or an icecream, going to the local market. Wonderful. This is not a cruise for children, or those that want lots of nightlife and entertainment. Our pianist, Tim, was excellent, and you could sit with new friends, listen to familiar songs and music, and enjoy a drink - all that I wanted. Would I go again ? In a heartbeat, and definitely with Scenic. Read Less

We chose this particular cruise because of the destination - Rhine and Moselle Rivers. The length of the cruise was also what we wanted. Scenic is Australian owned. We heard good reports from people who have previously cruised with Scenic. We liked the idea that it was all inclusive. We thought the on board service and meals were first class. The Portobello night was excellent as was the La Rive dining. Nothing was too much trouble for the crew. The variety of excursions was excellent. The cabins were spacious and the ship itself was kept spotless at all times. Our Cruise Director, Patrik, was exceptional as were his organisational skills. He kept us informed at all times and his information sessions were very useful. The e-bikes are a great concept and made cycling easy. We feel the free WIFI needs to be improved and the on board entertainment needs more variety. Read Less

River cruising was an item high on my bucket list. My travel agent recommended Scenic because it was all-inclusive (no signing your way through the cruise!), excursions were covered, ships are new, etc. We went with her professional opinion and were not disappointed at all! The service was second to none. I looked forward to Patrik delivering my morning coffee with a smile. Stefan in the Opal Lounge was very attentive - always taking good care of us. The food was outstanding. We also took a tour of the galley - spotless. We particularly liked the personal touches and the wonderful fellow passengers. We made some great friends and hope to do this again soon. Although the weather was less than pleasant, Scenic and their amazing team made up for the lack of sunshine. They were hospitable, accommodating, entertaining and personable. Without hesitation, I would recommend Scenic be everyone's first choice for European River cruising. Read Less
