Did deceide for this cruise because of the destinations (Greek Islands Mykonos, Santorin, Simi, Chios, Crete, Istanbul and Kusadasi - Ephesus). Did know that the ship was a bit outdated and could coop with that. - Cabin was ok, but bath room a bit small and aged. Cleaning staff did a great job. - Service in the Service Restaurant (not Buffet Rest.), Bars was very good. Reception people where a bit cool. - Entertainment and shows where ok (opinion of myself as a german !). - Small covered pool, surrounded by tables (part of buffet restaurant) not too nice. - Expensive wellness area. Gym equipment could be better. - Enough room to relax away from bars. Not good: - Safety drill after embarkation in Rhodes was a joke!!!! It took place in the show lounge. How to wear the life west and were to find the meeting spots was all! No assembly at the dedicated areas, no calling of names. - Pollution!!!!!! Everytime after leaving the harbours and switching to cruide oil it did rain "Tar - Flakes" on the rear decks. Not to mention the a mount of smoke and Co2 all over. Even the air con did blow smoke into the cabin. - The offer of the selfservice buffet was below average. Very little taste and vegetables out of cans. Breakfast buffet was acceptable. Restaurant feeling was like in a canteen. We had always dinner in the service restaurant which was quite good incl. the staff. - We took the optional "Drink Package with alcohol". Was a bit disappointing as only one choice of red/white (by the glas) house vine was included as well as just standard drinks/cocktails. No fresh juices and "Cocktails of the day" included. Water in the cabin one had to pay for. - We only booked one excursion, Ephesus. With 68 € p. person expensive; however we had a guide and an exciting tour. But, after 1 1/2 hours sightseeing we ended up in a carpet store and have been bored by a sales event. A nightmare!!! 1 1/2 hours of suffering. Paying for the very interesting Ephus excursion is ok but sponsering a carpet dealer is a shame! Read Less

Disappointing waste of hard earned savings. Absolutely NO entertainment unless you enjoy passengers being called up and derided. No films. English speaking guests avoided. Italian staff mostly rude and unhelpful not to mention the misinformation they give out on order to boosts their sales of shore excursions etc eg. Told must pay 11 euros p.p. to get from port in Mykonos whereas the trip costa 1.5-2 euros max. From the beginning they gave us wrong configuration of cabin then said they couldn't change it as the cruise was "full" , which it wasn't. Toilet blocked. Pipes leaking in corridors into bucket. Refused to lend an iron when we required it to look after our own expensive clothing. Instate we must pay 10 euro and send to laundry. If you want to lie peacefully by the pool forget it - blaring distorted loudspeaker disrupting passengers. Anything good? The Pilipino and Indian staff working in bar and food areas were all delightful And special commendation to Don Jardine and Zaraida Mangagao (forgive spelling) who went out of their way to give excellent service. Thomson relaunched the Celebration under the Platinum Cruises, the ship has had some big refurbishments and a lot of the ship is now brighter and more airy feel to it. However Thomson appear to have decided to have the concept of upgrading the ship only for passengers to the get less for their money? 24hr buffet resturaunt is no longer the late night buffet finishes at 1am, this had no effect on our holiday as we have never previously used this but customers on previous cruises should be aware of this. There appears to be less bar waiters and drinks staff in all bars as well as the buffet resturaunt. The cinema has been turned into more rooms and Thomson informed us that they would be showing more films in cabins however this meant during a 14 day holiday 7 films shown on three channels on rotation. Suddenly the best seats in the theatre are reserved for passengers paying a further cost of £8.95 per person per show. The House wines have been changed from le piat do'r (average French table wine) to a cheaper Italian wines. Overall the cruise was excellent however Thomson let the ship & staff down by some of the changes they made and the constant extra surcharges/ optional extras they appear to have gone into overdrive looking for things they can add an extra charge to. The cabins have all been freshly redecorated and new shower rooms installed. The cabins were spacious and as per previous cruises with Thomson the staff excellent. The staff in all areas I can't praise enough they are the ones that really do keep the Thomson ships popular. Bands and musicians were excellent and when I compare them to previous cruises with Thomson they were by far the best vocally. Unfortunately the same could not be said about the Show Crew in particular CJ who with exception to The Musicals Show killed every by being flat and totally out of tune. The shame is you had some really talented guys and girls but every show was let down by a couple of the guys and one girl in particular. The Resturaunts Mistrals is well worth the extra surcharge we ate there twice and on both occasions service and food was exceptional Steve deserves a promotion!!! Meridian food was always good never excellent of anywhere near the same standard as Mistrals. However it was good as was the Buffet. The pizza and burger station as well was always good. Another small gripe the ice cream station is now only open till 3.30 pm then suddenly sellers appear on the outside decks flogging walks ice creams. Previously I have given Thomson 5 stars however I feel that this is no longer the case and through no fault to staff or the ship but through Thomson squeezing the pennies to get more revenue. The Celebration is a bit of muddled and this means you often find yourself walking down corridors of rooms to try and get from one bar to another bar/restaurant. The theatre sits mid ship on two decks which means during show times you struggle to be able to get from one area to another unless you walk through the theatre. Liberties Bar is in dire need of a refurbishment and hopefully this will be the next area that gets a refresh as currently it's dark dated and you feel your in an eighties club surrounded by red velour. The smell from the carpets was so foul that staff were constantly washing them to get rid of the foul smell without much success. Horizons bar is stunning and the best bar along with the Casino. Staff in the Casino and Horizons could not do anymore for you. The Celebration is an older ship that does rattle and creek but it's charms far outweigh having to lodge card in your cabin door every night to stop it rattling. As a good sleeper this really had no effect on me however I do feel if you are a light sleeper at certain parts of the ship you might struggle. The further up the decks the vibrations and juddering appeared a lot worse. Mid to Forward decks 2-6 appeared to be the least effected. Thomson Cruises really are the package holiday cruise liner they do it well and you know what your getting but I do feel that every year they are cutting costs and upping prices and they are getting on par price wise with some of the bigger cruise liners and they really can't compete with the class of ships they currently have.   Read Less

We cruised on the Mediterranea in September this year. We boarded the ship in Rhodes which was uneventful. Quickly processed and on board within about half an hour. Our suite was lovely, plenty of storage and an excellent bathroom. Our luggage arrived very quickly. We enjoyed the champagne ready and waiting for us in our suite. The Canapes delivered a little later too were a nice touch and we certainly enjoyed the fresh fruit each day. The bed was comfortable with lovely soft pillows. The cabin staff were efficient and helpful. Breakfast - As the restaurant offering waiter service closed far too early we chose to have breakfast in the self service restaurant. It was utter chaos. Not all serving areas were open and those that were would suddenly close even if there was a queue of people waiting to choose their breakfast well before the closing time. The drinks queue was always hectic due to coffee running dry or water running dry then milk packing in or juice. Rolls and bread seemed to be in alien places and butter in a totally different area. Nothing flowed. Tables however were cleared quickly " too quickly sometimes when you had put a plate down and turned around to search for milk for your cereals or butter for your bread when you returned your plate had gone! Lunch - this too in the self service area was just the same. Utter chaos. The area serving food by the pool was very basic too - chips and burgers mostly. Dinner - We chose to have dinner at the earlier time at 7.00 and found ourselves seated at a table of 8 which suited us as we all got along well.. The dining room is beautiful and our table was by the window. However, we found the food extremely disappointing. For example, the first night we both chose Lamb Shank as our main course and when it came it was a few thin strips of tough lamb on a bed of sloppy instant mash " no taste " no seasoning. It was tasteless and not what we expect of Cruise Dining. The following evening I selected the veal and I think it was the same meat as the previous night, again on a bed of instant mash and tasting of absolutely nothing! We took the option one evening of dining in Medusa Restaurant (extra supplement of around 22 Euros) NOW THIS WAS MORE LIKE IT! We were back to what we expect of cruise dining. The napkin was placed on our lap, we were made to feel special, the food was an absolute dream. The service wonderful " just like it used to be; but in this restaurant there were enough staff to provide this excellent service not like in the main restaurant where the staff were trying to give a good service with far too many people to attend to. The bars on this ship are lovely, very comfortable, plenty of them and good entertainment to suit all tastes, plus quieter areas if you want them. The service from the waiters was good even though they were rushed off their feet. We had taken the all inclusive option and the variety of good quality drinks was very extensive and generous. We would certainly recommend this package. The sundecks are pleasant and well laid out with room for everyone. Only slight criticism here is that the sun beds are very close together making it difficult to get on and off them and also not giving an inch of personal space. Must say though that each time we wanted to lie and relax we found a sun bed every time. The waiter service on the deck areas was very good and we regularly had morning coffee for me and a pot of tea for my husband sitting at one of the many tables on deck (then a couple of other drinks as the day progressed!) Entertainment by the pool was provided but it did not take over; there were enough quiet times too. We liked this ship, lovely polite staff who work so hard but the catering left a lot to be desired. It let Costa down. Part of the joy of cruising is enjoying fine dining with attention to detail. Somehow this did not happen " shame isn’t it? So come on Costa get it sorted. You have a gorgeous ship, great staff, lovely suite, fantastic bars. First time in a decade hubby and I have stayed up until 2.00 am enjoying the other parts of the cruise.   Read Less
