We wanted to get away for the Christmas holidays and wanted to sail on the Epic. We have been on several of the NCL large and small ships and have over $2000 in future cruise money, so we are a fan of NCL. There were so many things wrong with the Epic, that surprises me why NCL has not fixed them. Embarkation was terrible with extremely long lines even we arrived when we should have. In the stateroom the toilet is in one room, the shower in another room, and the sink in the stateroom itself. Functionally this makes sense, but in reality, it is a mess. My wife's head, while in bed, was only about 5' from the toilet if the door was open. The balcony stateroom was very tight. We had to turn our small carryon to it's side to pass by the end of the bed. No power outlets above the counter level in the room. On deck 6, a main area, is the casino that goes from one side of the ship to the other. You walk through it to get to many places and due to the smoke, you and your clothes smell like smoke. Could not get to the Taste restaurant from the aft elevators. Moderno was awful. Food way overcooked. Getting a drink at the bar on the ship took well over 30 minutes. If you were a small person, getting to the bar would have been worse. There are two tiny pools for this big ship. The Cavern club sound was terrible. It is a long narrow room, with the stage along the long wall. Just awful. Our cabin stuck out beyond the upper staterooms meaning people could look down on us, and when they washed the glass above, guess where the wash water went. A main theater show with drag queens. Not the best for a main show in our opinion. The cruise director was great, and staff were friendly but the staff had accents made that made it very hard to understand them. On the positive side, Cagney's was awesome, as well as the bar there. Main DR food was very good, however breakfast plating was different everyday. Howl at the Moon was awesome, particulary Katie. Entertainment in the main DR was great.. Bar service at O'Shehan was very good. On the rear of the ship they have a large screen. This was great for watching football. Wonderful Christmas service by the Staff. We liked the crew talent show. Read Less

I had a great cruise on Epic in 2015 I gave the trip 5 stars in my review. Things have gone way downhill since then. The Entertainment on the ship was pretty good and a good variety of activities were offered. Krystal the solo host was very nice and helpful. The Thermal spa was also nice and I made a daily visit to the sauna and Hydrotherapy pool. I found it clean the drinking water was always filled and there were lots of clean towels and robes always availible, I never had trouble finding a heated stone lounger to relax on. My room Stewart Ahmed was also very good and kept my room clean all the time. The big issue with this boat was service in the Taste dining room Dinner usually took about 3 hours with most of the time spent staring at empty dishes. I could not get a refill of water without flagging down a server. One evening I had to find a water pitcher at a server station and refill all the water at my table. Usually half the table left before desert because they did not want to waste the entire evening waiting for cold mediocre food. I spoke to the matre'd twice and nothing ever got better. When I went there for breakfast once a man at my table asked for syrup for his Waffles or pancakes and the server said no you can't have syrup there was some sauce there and use that. The other time I went to breakfast there I asked for butter for my toast she said she would get it then disappeared not to be seen again that morning. My biggest complaint is that when the issues were brought up nothing was done to fix them. I did not go to the MDRs for the last 5 days of the cruise. I ate at the sub golden corral quality buffet or at O sheehans which actually had pretty good food and service. The entertainers did a good job I liked the singer Tetiana who let me get up on stage with her. Burn the Floor was awesome even seeing my 3rd version of it. The ship overall is too crowded I missed several shows because dinner took all evening and the theater is too small for the ship and was full by the time I escaped from the dining room. A lot of people did a really good job making guests happy on the cruise. But a few uncaring horrible Servers in Taste made all their work go to waste since the main thing everyone will remember is how bad the service and food was at Taste. Read Less

Epic Starting with boarding-disaster/no Wheelchairs-blind people with canes all left to fend for themselves at bottom of stairs and escalator-no one organizing lines -one line became 2 th en 3 then a mob-countless people getting pushed and shoved-Utter chaos-no wheelchairs were available until after check in-took 1 hour after signing up to get it-two people came in and tried to get help for 94 year old and an 84 year old-no help at all -they had to walk-in to sign up to get a chair-10 in our group -all complained worse boarding ever? Talked to others during trip one couple with 27 cruises another with 30-we are close to 20 if u count river cruises——Platinum or plus doesn’t help outside! Toaster and coffee pot both broken on Sat Am on pool deck-toaster still broken 3 Food and service for 10 in Manhattan was very poor-many items cold or Luke warm-took forever between courses Dinner and service at Taste much better but still not hot Invited to Platinum party -went in -helped myself to wine -but no seats-we left Irish bar still the best concept yet- but service is very sketchy on the side with the pool tables-u have to flag people down and the 20 min before u get a drink—then the menu is different on the other side-both sides should be identical-I do not know whose brilliant idea that concept was -but forget it-open the whole thing up-with all the people on this ship the Irish Bar should be open on both sides-this waiting 25 min is crazy also could use one more facility of that size-maybe Italian or Greek or mixture of both/“Mediterranean Delight” Premium liquor package-somehow managed to drop Makers Mark off the list-Grey goose still on-totally arbitrary-like trying to squeeze two Buffalo nickels together to get a dime-come on -Premium is premium-stop the nickel /dime stuff-it demeans you! Pool way to small-both of them! Elevators-only 2 sets should be 3-a long wait always Service in the food areas very chaotic and inconsistent-Taste good -Manhattan terrible-Why? Now Disembarkation-rented a wheelchair from u for last 3 days-was told I could have an Escort to push the chair from my room to beyond passport -then the daily news says u can’t-so I call the desk and they say I can’t-so I told them to go across to Hotel Services and check it out-he comes back all surprised that I do have someone coming to get me-so I get a call before 7 am saying he is on the way and should he bring a wheelchair-we say no because I have one I rented from u-boy was that a mistake/ we get to gangway checkout and are told we cannot go any further with that wheelchair we have to get another one to go down the ramp-so we hold up the whole line for 15 min-then the guard checks our ship cards-mine is not working and he thinks I should go back and get a new one-my wife said no way-use hers-so finally we leave-getting over to the landslide and have to wait for a land-side pusher to take us through customs-which he did After a 20 minute wait-So we had a disastrous time on both loading and unloading. Also many times the people in our group of 10 were told one thing by one person and the opposite by another-not once or twice but many times-almost to please us with an answer-right or wrong! Most of Bar waiters and bartenders were top notch but especially if they were tipped -now this next thing I don’t know who to blame-Ordered a Southern Comfort Manhattan with sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters on the rocks-a standard for over a century-I got SC on the rocks-SC with red coloring-a glass of SC and a glass of Vermouth (mix my own I think)-the variety was amazing including a few drinks Straight Up instead of on the rocks!- Read Less

Good price on this cruise, plus the ports were good. Issues started on embarkation. Only 2 TSA agents showed up for work. No communication to any passengers waiting over 3 hours to board. My main issues are around the food quality, taste and some service. The food in the buffet was horrible. The roast beef was so tough they could not cut it one night. No taste, same things over and over , night after night. They had no cream on the entire ship for 10 days for coffee. How is that possible? They don't offer shrimp cocktail, escargot, lobster night. The quality of the steak and prime rib was thin. Unless you paid to go to Cagney's you got a very simple cut of meat. The wait staff at Shanghai's were excellent. In the main dining room, never once in 10 days asked if I wanted my wine glass filled up. No butter on the table. Didn't ask if I wanted sour cream on my baked potato, didn't ask if I wanted cheese on my pasta. None of these things ruined this cruise. The entertainment was excellent. I liked the cruise director. Burn the Floor musical a must see. I had the liquor package and I was not able to get a soda in a can, only out of the fountain pop. Does this make sense? I can get a $15 glass of wine, but not a $2 can of pop. They told me I would have to purchase the soda package to get a can of pop. NCL is know as the nickel and dime cruise, and it really is. They were taking water and pop off passengers on embarkation, not allowing them to even bring 1 bottle of water on board. I've never seen so many guests upset around the ship. It will be a long time before I cruise NCL again. Going back to what I know is 5 star cruising with Celebrity and Royal. Read Less

The cruise started off badly by taking over 3 1/2 hours to board. Missed lunch because of this. Dinners in the specialty dining rooms were great, however the Manhattan and Taste left us feeling like we had just eaten in a bad restaurant with bad food and even worse service. Only one night at Manhattan gave us good service and her name is Linda. I sent many meals back. One meal even tasted like it was spoiled. The Pub served frozen, greasy fish. Guest service staff were rude and difficult to deal with. They didn’t want to deal with problems, like missing laundry and extra service charges. They was no communication prior to sailing and when I inquired about this, I was told that everyone knows this information. Being new to NCL, I didn’t know. The ULTIMATE BEVERAGE package is not Ultimate because it didn’t include water and coffee. We found out the hard way, after ordering water and being charged after the meal. Other ships include waters and coffee. We felt we were nickel and dimed the entire time. Maintenance staff painting with toxic paint early morning. We woke to a terrible smell in our cabin yet they were wearing masks. Awful trip Read Less

The embarkation process in Port Canaveral was a nightmare. They kept us waiting outside on a chilly windy day for hours. There was no organization to the line and busses kept dropping off and dumping people in the middle of those who had been waiting. No announcements from Norwegian and then the passengers started to place the barricades that were around and organize ourselves. We had cabin 9197 and it was right over the Japanese Steakhouse. Grease fumes prohibited us from sitting on the balcony. When we complained we were put off for five days before our room was changed. They did give us a $200 credit. All of the perks were bogus. We got the drink package but had to pay $178 up front to cover tips. Got 250 minutes of internet but it was so slow or didn’t work at all through most of the cruise. Got 4 speciality dinners but couldn’t make reservations except for 8:45 or later. After much hassle we did manage to get into the Italian, French and Cagneys Steakhouse for 5:30 dinners. The food was excellent. Most of the shows were overcrowded or booked and required reservations. It was hassle making reservations for the shows but once in they were excellent. The cabins are horrible. My 5’11” husbands feet were hanging at least one foot off the end of the bed in the regular balcony room. Both the toilet and shower have opaque doors so there is no privacy whatsoever. This ship was so crowded and there was no place to sit in the cabin or elsewhere on the ship to relax. What was supposed to be a relaxing holiday was so stressful that one week later we are still trying to get over it. Never Norwegian again. I could go on and on about the design of this ship. We have cruised on Holland, Princess, Celebrity, Royal Carribbean this was so bad that I never want to cruise again. Read Less

My first cruise with NCL was highlighted by a food allergy which gave me the opportunity to visit the medical center, receive an Epipen injection and spend over $3000 on one medical bill. WONDERFUL!! The food made me ill on four separate occasions. Fortunately three of the vomit inducing experiences were minor - as I learned to take one bite of food, chew thoroughly and swallow before taking a second bite. Each was a new experience - steamed cauliflower, chicken breast and turkey leg. Every guest commented on the hand spray procedure on board; most said that it was water and ineffective at cleaning anything. Stairway handrails were streaked with greasy hand prints and contaminants. The elevators were germ factories. Embarkation was a joke. NCL placed the blame on US Customs. Even the broken and missing luggage. The solo studio room was small. My luggage didn't fit under the bed, so I had to shift it from the minimal floor space onto the bed several times a day. The toilet area made me claustrophobic. The sink was poorly located. I had to fight with the sliding door which covered the closet each time I had to open or close it. Entertainment was mediocre at best. Staff were rushed and rude. Would I go again? NEVER! Read Less

I booked this cruise for my family because I'd had really good experiences with Norwegian. This was quite the exception. From the start of having no one to greet us to taking 3 hours to get on the ship due to lack of employee knowledge, system errors and just plain laziness, to the room flooding, to having no accessibility in the room for my handicapped dad to the wheelchair that was recommended by ncl's rental company not fitting in the room to poor customer service. This was the worst cruise I'd been on. After all the things that happened my parents were given $100 each on board credit. The food, food staff, ports, shows and room attendants were very lovely but the customer service desk used standard lines and showed no comparison. They knew a water pipe burst at 8pm and didn't bother to check the rooms. Then they expected my elderly parents to walk in the water throughout the night because they weren't going to fix it until the morning. If you are staying with a friend in the room beware that there is no privacy for showers and bathroom except a curtain and then you can't leave the room if the other is in the shower. Awkward. Our son chose this cruise to help them get away after a horrific year of enduring Hurricane Michael. They are a military family and had their home decimated and the base in which he is based was destroyed. We all needed to give their family a break. We made lemonade out of lemons. But it was just terrible. Getting on board the person who registered us did not even know what she was doing. Before getting on board we had to go through the whole process again! I met other persons who had the same experience. Whoever designed the cabins on this ship should never be employed again. Yes it was that bad. The shower and bathrooms had translucent doors so whoever entered the cabin or were in the cabin could see the person going to the bathroom or taking a shower. We had grandchildren in our cabin for the first 3 days and never had any privacy. We just hated it. Had I known about this before the cruise we would have never cruised NCL Epic. The passenger capacity was 4100 and we felt it. Long lines and crowds everywhere. Loud music constantly and a poor selection most of the time. Bartenders were over worked and understaffed making for more of a feeling of being overcrowded. We had a drink program with our fare but the wait times out by the pool area made it prohibitive to even get a drink. We could never find a quiet space on this ship. It was overwhelming how crowded it was. The pools were so tiny you would have thought they were designed for a small home. Tenders: At one port it took us 51 minutes from the time we entered the tender line until we were back on the ship. Holland America used their own tenders and there was no lines! Poor service on NCL! Our first day on board the buffet lines were way too long and when they opened up the main buffet room they did not even know what they were serving! This was not a vacation! It was a grueling event! I met other people on board who could not wait to get home. It was that bad. Read Less

This cruise was recommended to us. We have been saving and preparing for this trip for over a year. This was my wife's birthday week. The checking in and boarding process was long and hot. Designated arrival times do not even matter. Every restaurant/ buffet/ cafe that was included was mediocre at best. If you wanted to see shrimp, and lobster, and other expected cruise ship foods, you will have to get it from the ocean on this cruise. Outside of the cabin Stewart, Casino staff, and some wait staff, the service was terrible. The ship layout has the main buffet dining at the top of the ship, so prepare to walk stairs a lot, because elevators are not efficient unless you go to breakfast at 6AM. My wife went to the spa to have her hair styled for dinner, and the person who did her hair made some insensitive comments about her hair and face that brought my wife to tears when she got back to the cabin. Excursions are chaotic and stressful with a lot of waiting. Recommend going onshore by yourself and doing the same activities at your pace. Felt like a retirement community by 11PM. That's when the bars on the ship start to close up, except Bliss, which smelled like urine, H2O, and the casino. Prepare to go to bed early on this boat. We disembarked with our luggage, and got off very quickly. Read Less

From the moment we stepped on the ship and saw the filthy windows everywhere that we looked I was concerned about the EPIC. Last year we took a cruise on the ESCAPE and had such a wonderful experience that we immediately put money down on another cruise with Cruise next. This year we didn't. The Epic was a huge disappointment. Unlike The Escape, not once were any of the windows/balconies cleaned while we were in port. Our room was filthy and the bathtub was filled with mold. The room steward never refilled anything like sugar, shampoo, lotion, soap etc. The boat was so noisy and shuddered continuously. So much so that the glass doors on the tub and the toilet rattled all night, every night. The first time I went into the room and used the toilet, there was a piece of glass and I cut my foot open...not a great start!! The television had so little options with channels and we had to keep watching the same 10 minutes of a crappy cartoon in between shows. We never knew that the first port in the Bahamas was a private NCL island and that we had to get a tender, communication was terrible!! Whereas Harvest Caye was beautiful last year, Great Stirrup Caye is in need of a major facelift. The port of call in Jamaica at Ocho Rios should just stop. The beaches are so rocky getting into the water that I was almost over my head in the ocean before I finally felt sand. It was very painful. After speaking to many other guests that went to other excursions on the island they all had the same experiences. During the trip, we spoke to a lot of other people and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS! Almost every one of them said that they would never use NCL again, as of right now we aren't sure if we ever will either. If it wasn't for the wonderful experience that we had on the Escape we definitely wouldn't. We saw discrimination against a gay couple by the assistants to the cruise director that made us sick! The glow party was ruined for practically everyone because little kids were allowed to run around and knock over drinks and constantly bump into adults trying to dance and have fun, it wasn't the place for kids. It was brought to the attention to the cruise director by multiple people and he couldn't have cared less. Because of all of this and other reasons I rated this cruise poor...only because it was the lowest option available. Read Less

I was excited to take this cruise. I wanted to love it - people tell me how nice cruises are. I didn't have the same experience. from when we first arrived we had issues. my husband is Danish but has a us permanent resident card. the lady didn't know how to check him in and had to ask 2 people before we were able to proceed. Then once on the ship, the cards they issued my parents didn't have the meal and beverage packages on them so they were getting charged for all the drinks and food. It took 4 trips total to sort it out, two to get them to fix the card and two more to reverse the charges they said they'd do after the second meeting. Then they needed us to come up to fix whatever they did wrong for my husbands check in so we had to go back to guest services and wait in line again. Also, and the absolute worst thing is that my daughter was scratched on the stomach by two stray dogs when the excursion bus driver stopped inexplicably at a roadside souvenir shop. she was bleeding and the bus driver didn't have a first aid kit so we had to clean it with water and a towel. Then when we got back to the ship, they were claiming there was not rabies on the island, but were getting a verification from them and they'd let us know if she needed a rabies shot or not. we NEVER heard back. guest services followed up the next day - they asked how she was and if we needed anything. I told them I needed a follow up from the doctor, they said ok - again I never heard back. lastly I went to settle my bill for my massage and I found that they charged us $15 a day per person to be on the ship - after paying over 3k for a tiny cabin. so, basically I spent the majority of my vacation in line at guest services or in the medical center. Don't book Norwegian - they are the worst. for what we spent we could've gotten a villa with a driver and a chef in some ritzy neighborhood on the beach in south America with fewer crowds and more room. So we took a cruise in April for spring break on Norwegian and it was not a good experience at all. A few of my girlfriends decided to book a weekend cruise and Norwegian offered the short weekend cruise with the dates needed. I was hesitant but thought I would give them a second chance. What a mistake.... NEVER AGAIN! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! It started with a representative telling my friend an option to board without using her passport so she got on the plane to Miami and then was denied boarding at the port. Luckily we got a fax of her birth certificate but the supervisor said he would call back to help and still has not returned her call - this was Friday.... Norwegian has the worst customer service i have ever experienced. We could not get served at the bars, had to tip a waiter cash to come back and serve us and it took hours to get our food in the dining rooms. after waiting at a bar for 10 min and being overlooked and not served multiple times we tried a second bar. After standing in line for 10 min, i reached the bar. I ordered 4 drinks and was told i could only order 2. i showed him my friends in line behind me and gave him my drink order again. he repeated it incorrecty so i told him a third time and his response to me was this - you need to have your order ready because people are waiting in line! I was floored and never went back to that bar. we sat down to breakfast and ordered at 9:20. We then heard announcement that a crew drill was going to start at 9:45. One of our orders came just as the alarm was sounding and the waiter put the food in front of one of my friends. then told us his supervisor would follow up on the rest of our food. It finally came out at 10:15 and one of them looked similar to the first dish but slightly different and was not what my other friend ordered. the waiter brough over the ticket and said it was our mistake, but turns out the waiter put the first dish in front of the wrong person and the supervisor blamed us. After quickly eating we tried to get off the ship and got stuck between two doors for 5 minutes because of the crew drill. when the doors opened, the crew member shoved her hand in my face to get me to wait. she wanted me to wait until everyone on the other side went first instead of creating a two way flow but said nothing, just shoved her hand in my face. Noone said have a good day as we got off the ship or welcome back as we got back on. in fact one day we had to wait while the attendant finished a call to scan our cards so we could leave the ship. The sad part is that i have so many more examples that I could share - it was the norm and bad service was not just an exception. the entertainment - dancers and singers were some of the worst that i have ever seen on a cruise. the band was amazing and we thouroughly enjoyed the music by the pool when they were playing. The entire cruise had complete lack of communication. the first night show encouraged the passengers to get off early because otherwise they would have to get a ticket and wait to get off the ship due to tendering. So we took their advice but when we got to the island there was no food or bars open for 3 hours. Not once did they communicate that we should eat on the ship before getting off because there would be noone serving food or beverages (unless you wanted an $8 bottle of water) until 11:30 that day. we rented floats for $16 a float and used them while waiting for the food to open. We then stacked the floats by our chairs and went to eat. came back and the people behind us told us some guy and kids came and took the floats. so we went to the float counter and was told that it had never happened and we had to walk to other end of the beach area and talk to the office to get new floats. finally they gave us four new floats even though they had recorded us earlier purchasing 4. There is a consistent lack of customer service across the entire norwegian brand. It is so bad that none our group will ever select a Norwegian cruise again - especially considering the level of service you receive on Carnival/Royal Carribean and other cruises. Save yourself money and book with a different cruise line. See my other cruise review where i had the similar experience - Not a fan!!!! on the Norwegian Dawn in April 2018. I do not recommend Norwegian and will NEVER select Norwegian for any future cruise i book - same as the group of friends that went with me. Read Less

They had to bring in a mattress to lay on it. The shower and the sink didn’t drain much at all and the room had a lingering sewage smell. The crew also wasn’t as helpful or friendly as I’m accustom to. Then to top it off weather prevented us from getting off on the private island so we were trapped on this floating garbage restaurant all day. I literally got better food at the gas station than I did on the entire trip on the ship. That being said, embarkation and disembarkation weren’t the best I’ve ever had. Quick and painless. Overpriced and underwhelming. Stains on room floor and hallways were constantly wet from what I have no idea. Plumbing for shower drain was not maintained. Site said there was a renovation in 2018....right. When concerns brought to guests’ services attention no resolutions were offered only dismissive apologizes with overbearing security looming over help desk. Sad. I will not utilize this line for anymore of our family vacations. We missed 3 hours at Atlantis because the shore excursions’ representative was too lazy to assist us properly. Spent an additional $30 on taxi to Atlantis after local assistance. Then no Rep could located to provide prepaid wristbands. The resort assisted us and finally were allowed entry. To begin with, I only booked this cruise because it was going to Grand Bahama Island, which myself and my fiancé has never been to. However, before even leaving, the only destination besides the private island was changed to Nassau which we have already both been to 3-4 times, so that alone put a bad taste in our mouths, and Norwegian would not do anything to accommodate us for the port change that was the main reason for booking this cruise. Then once boarding, we found the food to be extremely underwhelming and the staff in the buffets, seven seas, and four seasons to be extremely unattentive and not at all friendly. Not to mention the food quality was sub par, I feel McDonald's has better food quality. To make matters worse, the food made us sick every day so in the end we decided just to eat pizza and nothing else. The entertainment on the ship was sub par or not even worth going to, and the ships staff aside from two of the bartenders unfriendly and rude. One night, my fiancé and I got dressed for dinner and to take some pictures the photographer was rude, demanding, and unfriendly, almost to the point of making my fiancé cry. Needless to say, we did not purchase any pictures taken on board at all. The ship itself was awful, it was so bad from the first night the halls smelled like vomit and urine all the way through. The final night, my fiancé and I decided it was a better experience for us to just hide in our stateroom on the balcony than be anywhere on the ship itself. Just overall, the experience with Norwegian was awful and neither of us will be sailing with this line ever again in the future and I will also be letting others know about the experience we had and that they should sail with another company, that Norwegian is not at all worth your time or money. I feel as though I took some of my hard worked PTO days of the year to have a miserable experience that I cannot get back. So upsetting and I would hate to have anyone in the world, go through what my fiancé and I went through. Read Less

I wanted to visit Cuba so I decide to take Norwegian instead of Carnival. What a mistake, it stated with the check in process. Checkin was reasonably simple, but it's the hurry up and wait routine, because as you check in you are not able to get on the boat there was about a 45 minute wait before we could board. We got on board at about 11:30 AM, but had to wait until 1:30 PM to get into the room, that's just too long considering we had a few bags with us that we didn't want to check. Next while headed to the disaster drills, I saw my bag just sitting in the middle of the hall way not even close to my room! Of course I couldn't get it because of the drill and people yelling please get to your station. After the drill the bag was still in the same spot so I grabbed it and took it to my room. Next was getting off the trip in Key West, after reading the material in my room we thought we were all set only to find that we were not. There was no mention of a ticket needed to leave the boat if at there was a ticket needed. This ticket was a total waste of time hour online to wait for it and it wasn't tied to me in any way meaning when they took it as we got off no on checked my name off of anything. On the way out people were lltalking and laughing, the security chief comes out and tells be quiet, with no other statement. First we are adults who paid to be on this cruise and I would expect a more respectful order and one stating why he need everyone to remain quiet. This brings me to the crew, they acted like zombies. No smiles, not personable at all, thought there were a few bright spots in the night sky and I did everything in my power to respond to them with a large smile and greeting to let them know I appreciated the lack of zombie like behavior! The covering of space made for a bad experience I was in one restaurant as it was changing over and no announcements were made, but they started locking door without so much as a word. I even had to ask them to unlock one of the doors because my stuff was just out side on a pool chair with my family. I would have been happy to move had I been given the opportunity. Activity schedule was a bit strange, Karaoke was only from 10-12 AM even though it was quite popular other things were like this as well. Lastly my excursion in Cuba. Again I read the information in my cabin and in my ticket envelope. I was told to be in the theater at 8:30 Am for instructions, they started giving out instructions well before that time. People were confused about the process, when they announced our departure there were no orders givin about lining up to disembark instead a mass of people just rushed the hallway doors it was a total mess. After customs our only clue where to go was to follow other people then once we got down stairs we saw a person directing us to the buses. The tour was an our late, while it was a decent tour we didn't get back u till almost 3 PM people were tired and hungry and asked about food , the guides only reply was I'll show you some places when we get back. This led to people leaving the tour group for food! With all of the Chaos I didn't enjoy the cruise at all! So disappointing!! Read Less

This was the WORST cruise I have ever taken. I am so disappointed. Our room steward was plain AWFUL.We had to call EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. to get fresh towels and washcloths. She NEVER replaced the pool towels either. Not to mention she never introduced herself to us until AFTER my husband lost his temper after having to wash with a HAND TOWEL in his shower. Our room bathroom smelled strongly of urine. The WI-FI WOULD NOT let us connect, yet they still charges us for it. Food was the same every day and it was just average. I had expected something a little.....more. Music was all Latin based and we could not understand it let alone dance to it. Everything closed at 8pm. Pools, basketball, etc... There was hardly anything to do on the ship. They did have planned activities through out the day, but there was only one thing going on at a time. Since there was literally nothing else to do on the ship, EVERYBODY was at the activities. This left standing room only every time. There were too many people shoved into these rooms. I am so glad that this was not my first cruise or I would never go again. This was a major let down and I am so sad I wasted all that money on this trip. Read Less

We planned this cruise for about a year and was so excited to see Cuba before it became "Americanized." This particular cruise was the only one that fell within our timeline for our group. The embarkment and disembarkment at Port Canaveral were fantastic. When we walked onto the ship, there was no one to greet us or direct us. We simply wondered the ship - checking it out. We joined the cruise director who was giving a tour of the ship. Our luggage arrived timely. Our room was small but clean. Good thing it had been cleaned before we arrived because our steward did not touch it again. The towels were left laying on the floor for days, and we eventually ran out. The food was left in our room. No tidying up at night time and no towel animals. The food on the ship was less than satisfactory. The few restaurants included in the reservation had only a few choices. It was the same food each day. The wait staff was so rude. They would literally take the plate out from us while eating. They cleaned our tables while we were still eating. The other restaurants on board were pricey. Alcohol was complimentary and a wide variety was available. The ship's customer service center lacks professionalism. They act like they are bothered if they have to answer a question. The bars and entertainment were good. The casino was just ok. The cruise director and staff were fun. Shows were professional. Entertainment was offered nightly, except for the overnight in Cuba. Half of the crew was given leave to go enjoy Cuba. That is great for them, but a lot of the ship was closed and service was slow because few staff members were left on board. Speaking of Cuba - don't go! It is just filthy. Bathroom facilities are non-existant. The "restaurants" are so dirty that we didn't eat or drink while ashore. We had to take our own toilet paper and drinking water from the ship. Make sure you attend the seminar on what to do and not to do while in Cuba. The locals were not friendly. There was no place to shop. It is stiffling hot and there is no breeze. The stinch from sewage in the streets is nasty. Some areas are great, but other areas are not. The women and children were begging for money and some were charging $5 to take pictures of them. We went on the cigar, rum and art excursion. It was interesting. We bought cigars, rum and coffee while on the tour because of price and quality. Our souvenirs were purchased from the ship giftshop because there was nothing to buy downtown. If you do decide to go, hold tightly onto your valuables while out and about in Cuba. Read Less

Where do I begin?! I chose Norwegian based on referrals from family/friends. First of all, our room steward never introduced himself to us and our room was only about 50% cleaned when we arrived. Our refrigerator did not work and after leaving a note, telling our room steward in person and calling the front desk it took almost 3 days to get a new one, even after mentioning that we had medications that needed to be refrigerated, that in the end went bad, so there goes all of that money!!! Second, I sent a dress to simply be pressed in time for the Cabaret show in Cuba, I sent it Tuesday morning so I would get it back by Wednesday at 6pm, which would have given me plenty of time to get ready and disembark for the show. By 4 pm it was not in the room, or 5pm, then 6pm came around and then 7pm. I called the front desk and they said "the paper says it will be ready after 6pm", IT CLEARLY SAYS BY 6PM! So I had to wear a freaking cover-up to a show that has a dress code!!! As they steward was dropping off alcohol that was brought aboard from Cuba we noticed that he was cleaning up something on the floor outside of our stateroom. HE BROKE OUR BOTTLE OF CUBAN RUM and had no remorse! We can only get this rum in Cuba. So there goes that money down the drain! If that wasn't enough, we were sitting outside on our deck on the final morning drinking mimosas, waiting for our group to be called to disembark. I was out on the deck with my mom and sister and he saw a crew member a couple of decks above us and said "good morning!" and he said it back to us. He obviously saw us and knew we were on the deck. Not a minute later, HE STARTED WASHING OFF/PRESSURE WASHING THE DECK AND BOAT ABOVE US AND WE WERE DRENCHED IN NASTY WATER!!!!!! SERIOUSLY! If the cruise wasn't bad enough. We then asked to see the supervisor of the steward. We got "She will be right up" about 5 times from our room steward. We then called the concierge desk and they told us she would be right up. 30 minutes later, after our group was already called to get off the boat, she finally arrived. After discussing everything that happened all she did was nod, she barely apologized, and we were sent on our way. I was looking forward to this cruise for 6 months since the day I booked it. What a waste of money!! Read Less

Strap in folks, this is going to be a long one but well worth your time if you're considering this cruise (or any cruise really). First, something you should know about me - I am the most optimistic person you will ever meet. My wife says I wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed every single day, no matter what. I can see the good in any situation whatsoever. However, by the end of my cruise experience, I was waxing poetic about the bowels of the hell that was this ship - so please keep that in mind. Also, for the record, this was my first cruise. My wife and I typically take 2-3 vacations a year (usually an all-inclusive in the Caribbean and another trip in another foreign country). Let's start with embarkation day. You arrive at the lackluster cruise port terminal (which is essentially a less glorified and less amenity-filled version of an airport) and promptly proceed to wait in line. Pay attention, because that will be a running theme throughout this trip. When you "check-in" online before you arrive, you select an arrival time. This time is a complete farce. You can show up whenever really because no one is checking anything with respect to your check in time. Waited in line about 30 - 45 minutes and finally were able to enter the ship. (Pro tip: Only bring carry-on luggage, especially if you plan on arriving late or leaving early on disembarkation day. If you leave your luggage with them at check-in, you don't get it until ~8 pm that night. Also, if you need to have them offload your luggage you need to leave it outside your room the night before you disembark and they pick it up). We arrived promptly for our 12:30 pm check in and get to our room by about 1:30 pm. My wife was tired and wanted to nap for a bit and I wanted to explore the ship. However, once you get on the ship, your room isn't ready AND not every part of the ship is open yet. They usher you into one of a few different large areas to "hang out" or, you can do like we and EVERYONE else did and head to the buffet to eat. (Pro tip: DO NOT go to the buffet at this time, it will be like wading through the worst sea of humanity you could possibly imagine for less than mediocre food.) After eating we finally had access to our room around 2 pm. Great, now vacation can begin... or so I thought. You are immediately bombarded with announcements that you MUST ATTEND the safety demonstration at 3 pm. My wife was trying to nap for a bit but this incessant noise from the tv and the loudspeakers made that nearly impossible. We arrive promptly at 3 pm to find huddled masses and even more massive confusion across the deck. You are assigned to a lettered station based on your room assignment and have to check in with some person in a magic vest that checks your name off a list and then get shoved into a huddled crowd. Now this is all outside in Florida in the summer time. It was crazy hot and humid with little to no air circulation whatsoever. They keep telling the group to move back and form tighter as more people show up! It is the epitome of cattle car-ing people. In fact, a woman (maybe late 40's/early 50's) ends up passing out from heat exhaustion and the (I kid you not) chef of the Italian restaurant who moonlights as an EMT (or has some sort of medical training) was brought out to assist her. Overall the safety demonstration is like 15 minutes long and utterly pointless. This whole process was extremely inefficient and utterly pointless. I find it hard to believe in 2018 that we can't figure out a better and more practical solution. Next, let's get to the real meat and potatoes of the cruise - the food. Going into the cruise, all I ever heard anyone ever talk about was the food was on their cruise. I'm not sure what cruise they were on but I felt completely bamboozled after my first complete day on the boat. The best thing I can say about the food is that it wasn't rotten and I didn't witness anything that would lead me to believe there were any food safety concerns. HOWEVER, there is a wide berth between that very, very low bar and the delicious food that I envisioned. The food was barely edible and overall lacked any flavor whatsoever. I searched high and low for any semblance of a dish that I would desire to eat again and I came up empty repeatedly. This was a "Freestyle Cruise" whereby you didn't need to make reservations anywhere and you can eat wherever/whenever but that doesn't mean much when the food isn't worth eating in the first place. I could go on for days about how bad the food was but there's A LOT more to get to. For the record, we only ate at the restaurants and buffets included in our package and did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants on board but from speaking to fellow cruisers, it did not seem that we missed much. There were a bunch of specialty restaurants on board but each and every one of them was an upcharge... which brings me to the biggest gripe with the cruise overall... Do you remember the episode of the cartoon Rocko's Modern Life where they go on a trip and see a billboard for a ski resort that looks amazing? The sign says "everything only $5*". Yes, that asterisk was important because, much like myself, after paying $5 to enter the ski resort, Rocko finds out that every single thing in the resort costs $5. Everywhere they turn, there is a constant $5 charge that ends up adding up to a huge sum by the end. THAT is the best to describe this cruise. Now this cruise is sold as an "all inclusive" and "freestyle" cruise where your package includes all the food, drinks, and everything else you can possibly want... with a HUGE freakin' asterisk. Everywhere you turned on the damn boat there was someone trying to sell you something or, even when you asked for something that was included in your package, someone was trying to sell you something else "for a small fee" that would be charged to your room. You want coffee that doesn't taste like they scraped it out of the Captain's porcelain throne this morning? $3. You want a wine that is actually drinkable? $5. You want to use the mobile app to allow you to message your friends for "free" throughout the cruise? $9 (back to WiFi and internet later in the review...). Water. Clean, drinkable water is the essence of life and NCL knows this. As a result, you cannot get a bottle of water anywhere on the ship without paying for it. Sure, they will give you as many cups of filtered water as you want but anything with a cap? $4. Also, from before you even get to the cruise port throughout the entire trip, they are constantly selling their "water packages", which consists of 6 bottles of water for $18! I can only imagine the amount of marriages that ended over ridiculous amount of charges racked up by an unsuspecting spouse over the course of a trip. Yes, you can charge your gambling credits to the room as well. Also, EVERYTHING you charge to the room has a 20% surcharge (example, my wife wanted one $5 glass of wine.... total charge $6). They also seek to penalize you at any moment. Did you lose your pool towel? $25. Do you need medical attention (yes, my wife wanted to see the doctor due to a mild allergic reaction)? $150 JUST TO BE SEEN BY A DOCTOR WHO IS A PART TIME CHEF. Whatever school that man went to was truly a heck of a bargain to come out as both a chef and a doctor. Internet is the biggest scam of all on this ship. They have different packages for WiFi but essentially it's either per minute (at the low-low rate of 99 cents/min.) or $120 for unlimited internet for 5 days. This ship has 11 levels roughly and it only worked reliably on the top 2 decks. For reference, we were on the 9th deck and it was spotty at best. Finally, there is the iConcierge app, which they don't tell you about whatsoever and we only learned about it from our rental car shuttle driver. This app is a piece of garbage and didn't work for 4 of the 5 days on the cruise. Purportedly you were supposed to be able to message your cruisemates "for free" - yea, right. $10. There is an "internet cafe" on board as well but it is NOT free and subject to the same rates as the WiFi. The shore excursions were good and definitely the highlight of the trip. However, for Key West, you arrive at roughly 1 pm and have to be back to the boat by 7 pm. Yes, it is a small island but that's barely enough time to do anything. Our group was pretty ambitious so we ate lunch (Conch Republic was delicious), headed to the beach for a dip, and then walked around town. We felt pretty rushed and didn't get a chance to experience any of the nightlife there. Oh well, onto Havana. Cuba was interesting to say the least. We did a 3 hour tour of the sights of Havana, which did a pretty good job of explaining the area and it's rich history. However, the tour guide really seemed to be reading directly from a script most of the time. (Pro tip: anytime they tell you to look in one direction, look the exact opposite direction and you will see something they definitely DON'T want you to see). It was really great to see an experience but is still not really tourist friendly yet. Give it time and it will soon be like every other island. We ate at two paladars, which were, by far, the best meals of the trip. I'm going to purposefully leave out their names because I don't want them ruined. Do a little bit a research and I assure you that it will be worth your time. Disembarking was fine, nothing spectacular to it and it was somewhat faster than getting on board. I could go on for a while about all the little annoyances and ridiculous things that happened but I think I made my point clear. Overall, I don't think I would do a cruise again, with this cruise line or any cruise line really. The whole thing was so lackluster and felt like a huge money suck. When I go on vacation, I don't want to have to follow a bunch of dumb rules and tried to be upsold everywhere I turn. I want to relax and do things on my time. I searched high and low on the ship and there was no quiet place I could just lay out and relax (except for my room). Every area with lounge chairs (mostly by the pool) had music blasting or live entertainment all damn day. I definitely didn't return relaxed or rested and already need a vacation from this last alleged "vacation". Read Less

I picked this cruise to because it went to Cuba. The stop in Key West was cut from 8 hours to 4 hours a few months after I booked. I could not get answers from Norwegian to any of my questions before departure. When we got on the ship the bathroom in our cabin was dirty. The food the entire cruise was not very good and the selection was always the same. The information given out at the talk about Cuba was incorrect. The cruise included drinks but the last night they ran out of most of the included beverages. The only night our cabin was made up (towels changed, bed made) was the last night. Every other cruise line I have gone on cabin was done every night. Very few activities on ship that did not cost additional money. Ship was recently renovated while people were on board for a 2 week cruise to Panama Canal and then ship dry docked for 2 weeks. Ship did not look like any improvements made. Holes in bathroom walls filled with putty. The only show one evening was a comedian. I will never go on a Norwegian Cruise again. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to see Cuba. We had a really nice stay in Cocoa Beach before the cruise started (booked through us, not the cruise line). Embarkation and debarkation were standard but once we were on the ship, we were very disappointed. The worst thing on the whole trip was how bad the ship smelled!!!! Our room stunk! It smelled like sewage and cigarettes, the room itself was lovely but it reeked, all areas smelled of cigarettes. We realize that our room was under a dining area and people move chairs; but at 3:00 am it was the staff sliding furniture above our heads, we did not get a decent night's sleep the entire trip. The TV said no smoking in public places but you could not breath in the casino as the smoke was so thick. We were given no information about Cuba prior to arrival or we were given conflicting information when we arrived. We were told by Jasper (the Cruise Director) on the TV where/how to exchange money the morning we arrived (nothing before) and when we were waiting for our shore excursion, the NCL person in charge of organizing the excursion told us we did not need to exchange money that the places would take US currency and we did not have time to make the exchange prior to our buses picking us up, of course they did not take US currency, even in the pier stores. We at least had time to exchange currency and purchase some items in the pier stores. It would have been nice to have some information on recommendations and where to purchase items; e.g., brands, stores, etc. We have no idea if what we bought was real/good or not. When we went to passenger services to ask about some of the Cuba details the night before arriving, I was literally told that he would not risk his neck answering any specific questions about Cuba. We were very disappointed that we could not view our bill on line and had to wait in the passenger services line to check it on the last night. The NCL concierge app did not work. We had to sign up for a package (which it said we did not, we were charged $3.95 and then the app still did not work). The food was good but the specialty restaurants were overpriced. We thought we were going to a romantic dinner at the Bistro for our anniversary, NOT!!! The waiter was not friendly, my filet was ice cold inside and he tried to argue with me that this was what rare meant, it was not a pleasant experience. We loved seeing Cuba but were not impressed with the cruise line at all. Read Less
