Vibrant town. Amazing library, worth a visit. Cathedral not open in middle of the day. Big open market for fresh fruit and vegies and a lot of tourist souvenirs.

Walked to the local beach at the fort and seen plenty of large Iguanas and a few pelicans. Small beach and not too busy. A bit stony at water edge but shallow in the water with nice sand underfoot.

We stayed 2 nights in Ford de France at the Fort Savane hotel. It was nice and clean and good value. The pizza place on the corner was good food but extremely slow, many customers up and left

This was a fun day but since our departure time was late in starting I felt like we probably did not get the full experience. The food was very good.

If you are a photographer, this is a great port to simply exit the ship and stroll the local town. There’s a great harbor area, small shopping district near the ship and then the main city is literally one block away from the pier. Lots of great buildings, people, colors and textures for photographers to simply stroll. I spent about two hours wandering and taking photos. Be sure not to miss the inside of the church. You’ll know which one, it’s the really tall one you can see as you walk towards the city. Read Less

It rained almost all day. We got there late because we stopped to help a sailboat in distress and some of the vendors at the pier were irritated because they had set up for us in the morning and we didn't come until noon. We had wanted to go to the beach but instead we toured the fort and had the best ice cream of my life. It cleared up a little in the afternoon and we let the kids play on the little beach in front of the fort. I was nervous about this island because my french isn't very good but I tried. Everyone that suffered through it smiled and told me they spoke English. The vendors on the pier had some beautiful handmade goods and everywhere we went took US dollars. I wish we could have checked out the beach..... Read Less

Berth was further from main downtown area than with an cruise earlier this year with P&O. I suspect MSC use this cruise terminal as it is much better laid out to disembark and embark the mainly French speaking cruisers who leave and join the cruise here. Very long day in port. It was a 15-20 min walk into town which has good shopping, cafe's and bars. Just like a typical French city in fact. Good idea to bring euros with you as well as dollars for the other islands. We took the Water Taxi over to the Anse L’ane beach. The ship docked at the dock outside of the main city, so it is about a 15 minute walk to the other pier where the Water Taxi was. Water Taxi Fee was 5 dollars each way. We got off at the first stop, which was less crowded and less commercialized then the beach at the second stop. This beach had some great snorkelling. Read Less

Lovely quiet beach, bit remote from the capital, no chance of an excursion there as the stay wasn't long enough.
