We chose this cruise because bus trips aren't my thing. We also wanted to see Cuba before the American economic invasion. The ship can hold 49 people but we were only 13 passengers - ideal! Since there were so few of us, they put everyone in a main deck cabin, which had windows instead of port holes. Crew walked by, as I discovered to my surprise one afternoon lounging on my bed, but it was nice ...
Our cabin was #4000, the farthest forward on the port side. It has a window perhaps 5 square feet, deeply recessed in the wall. (You can actually crawl up in there to get a wide view.)
Other reviews have done a good job on the ship, but it's funny that the "no TP in the toilet" seems to get more mention than anything. We live in Mexico where you NEVER flush TP outside of some luxury hotels. ...
Considering the negative reviews I read on this ship, especially for Greece, I was concerned about taking this cruise at all. But my brother talked us into it & I am so glad! It was an excellent way to see parts of Cuba without staying on a resort for a week.
It was a very busy schedule - a tour at every port (5) & lasted four hours or more. No lunch was provided as it was so extensive ...
Most aspects to our experience on board were positive. The cabin was kept very clean and the service was beyond complaint.
The entertainment was generally good, with the Cuban band, dance troupe, and singers always well rehearsed for the five nights we attended.
The informational enrichment presentations I attended were interesting. The only exercise group I attended was a Zumba class. I ...

Avalon Cruises contracted with Group IST in New York to provide U.S. approved People to People trips to Cuba for American Citizens who have not previously been able to travel there. Off-ship activities were arranged by Group IST. Most People to People ...
THE SHIP
Cruise Critic gives a good overview of the history of the ship and its chequered career. Ship enthusiasts might want to read the Wikipedia entry to help them flesh out the details. At time of writing the ship has changed identity yet again. The transformation began while we were in Montego Bay, and the Louis Cristal will become the Celestyal Cristal by the time she reaches the ...
First let me emphasize that while we are on a website which critiques ships essentially, the Cuba Cruise in my opinion should be looked upon in a category of it's own i.e. that of a trip involving a ship to a fascinating country. Notice I did not say ideal, but there have been some remarkable accomplishments in the area of universal access to medical care, high quality education at no cost and a ...
Cuba Cruise on the Louis Cristal was one of the best cruises we have taken. The ship is smaller and older, with a classic nautical feel, much to our liking. The room was comparable to Celebrity cruises on their older ships. The food was hit and miss, sometimes approaching Celebrity standard. The itinerary was unique--circumnavigating Cuba with a stop at Montego Bay. The thing that stands out, ...
