As you leave the ship, cross the park with the old hall. Leave through the main gate and cross the street. On your left hand side is up the hill a church. Most of the time closed. Continu to the wooden houses and take the first wooden alley to the left. Continu to the back and climb the stairs. Then you are on a n nice quiet street with wooden houses and antique shops. Then you go the left and cross the harbour front with all the tourist shops. Walk past the tourist office, towards the New Church (Ny Kirke). Has interesting interior. Climb the stairs up the hill and walk towards the old fort that you see on your left when entering the harbour of Bergen. That whole area has very picturesque wooden houses and romantic streets and alleys. On your way back to the ship do not forget the National Theatre which is a art deco gem. Go inside and admire the lobby. Go down the park to the main shopping streets. If you go right you enter a big square with a big pond. Read Less

Great port. We just walked around. Everything to see is within a 20 minute walk of the port. Highly recommend lunch or dinner at the fish market.

The rain, which actually wasn't as much as predicted, put a damper on the experience. Norway was having its rainiest July in a long time.

If going up the funicular go straight from the ship to beat the queues, lovely walks can be taken from the top, if you are reasonably fit and able to walk, I suggest getting a one way ticket and walking down into town rather than the return journey, on a good day it's far more interesting. Made our own arrangements as usual - much cheaper than the organised trips! We bought tickets for the hop on hop off buses that were at the port and included a discounted ticket for the vernacular ride which was a good move as the queue was much shorter. Beautiful place with lots to explore. Food and drinks were expensive compared to the UK, but we were expecting that - around £9 for half a litre of beer. So only had snacks and returned to the ship for meals. Read Less

Truly charming town. It rained throughout our stay there, but I understand that's not unusual. Would have missed this if I had taken any other cruise line.

Pretty town. The funicular is great but buy ticket online before you go as there is an enormous queue for them at the port.

Docked right in town and walked on our own all over town. A festival was in progress so we ate local food and enjoyed the music.
