We were on the NCL Dawn for a 14 day Caribbean Cruise. There is lots to report regarding our disembarkation. It was the absolute worst ever. It seems there was a big problem getting the normal gangway in place when we arrived at the port of Tampa. The number of passengers who could get off was very limited as the Dawn crew resorted to using the level 4 very steep and narrow gang ways instead. Almost immediately there was a medical emergency that stopped the entire flow of passengers trying to leave the ship.
Total chaos soon broke out through out the ship as passengers had little to know guidance and we just milled around not knowing which way to go. There was almost no help from the NCL crew and the announcements on the PA system only made things worse.
Speaking of PA system announcements on every NCL ship I have ever been on. The procedures in place are stupid. We will hear someone mumbling over the PA outside our staterooms and before we can tune our TVs to the bridge channel the announcement is done. Our if we are in a many of the public spaces we can't hear the announcement clearly. Here is my suggestion to fixing this systemic problem throughout the NCL fleet All announcements should start with "Please stand by for an announcement." repeated at least twice. This will give people who are in their cabins the chance to put their TVs on the correct channel to hear the message. There is also an issue with the volume level on the bridge channel and some of the public spaces. The announcement volume is way lower than the music playing and should be better balanced.
