My First time on the Dawn and the first cruise in three years because of pandemic. Norwegian is a great line, but the Dawn needs improvement. The ship seemed short-staffed. Infection control measures appeared to be nonexistent. Only a few staff members were masked. The washy-washy disappeared somewhere during the cruise. Antiseptic containers were sometimes empty. Restaurants didn't seem to care whether one sanitized their hands or not. By the end of the cruise, half the ship was sick with an upper respiratory infection. Covid was present on the ship. I was sick myself and had to attend the ship hospital, where I was informed that COVID was present and I was suspect. I didn't have it, but I had an upper respiratory infection and almost couldn't fly home because it was so bad.
In my two cruises before the pandemic, hygiene was strict on those ships. It wasn't here, which is why so many got sick.
The food was excellent (as is typical of Norwegian cuisine), but the lines were lengthy. No timed dining means everyone scrambles to the main dining rooms at 5 p.m. and waits in line. I wish they'd open the dining rooms at 4:30. It would help thin out the crowd considerably. When we're onshore during the day, we often skip lunch, so we're starving when we get back. Waiting until 6 or 7 pm is just too long, and the buffet is always a zoo.
Nice ocean view room, but I wish they'd cleaned the windows from the outside. I couldn't take pictures through them because they were so dirty or the seals were leaking. Large kingsized bed. Room for luggage in closet. Good shower. Separate toilet room. Well maintained cabin. Nice writing desk. A pull out table. Plugs are in short supply. There's one for the main cabin and one in the bathroom. Be sure to bring a energy strip and extension cord.
I've visited Curacao before and loved the artsy vibe of Willemstad. The art and restaurants are a fabulous combination of Dutch and Caribbean. A great place to buy quality items like art and other authentic pieces. You can find regular touristy souvenirs too but this city is about quality. Tip: There's free hi-speed wifi area for cruise passengers inside the secure zone on your return to port by the shops. Don't bother with the restaurant wifi in town as they're too slow.
Not much to do here besides the fabulous beach. The island is desert and cactus.
My first visit here. There wasn't enough time to visit properly. The shops are intriguing. I took the swimming with turtles but it took all day so I didn't get to do anything else. It's an interesting buy ritzy island. I'd love to come back.
I love this port, but there wasn't enough time to explore it properly. Don't miss Hemingway's house and the most southernmost point in the usa.
This port seems to have deteriorated since the pandemic. The shopping and restaurants aren't as prolific as they were three years ago. Still, the shopping in port is good. Otherwise, the island tour and the beach are nice places to visit.
