We were interested in trying a river cruise, had heard good things about Viking and the cost was within our budget. Our boat was changed at the last minute so we were on the Alruna, not the Tialfi, but I believe they are identical. The boat is attractive and generally comfortable, aside from the mattress in our cabin which was terribly hard. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food on the ship was generally good but the two lunches we had on board were disappointing. Tours were mostly interesting but the pace of the walking tours was painfully slow. I would skip some of these next time. Another thing I would not do next time is book the air travel through Viking. The selection of flights was poor and the cost was not much less than if we’d booked ourselves. The schedule of our return flights was changed, an additional stop added with a connection that was too short to be feasible when we had to go through passport control and security a second time. We felt that Viking should have flagged this potential problem and compensated us for the huge hassle that ensued when we missed the connection.
Small but efficient and attractive. Very hard and uncomfortable mattress.
We did the post cruise option in Amsterdam. The hotel was nice but a bit out of the way.
The best walking tour offered by Viking was in Cologne and the twin also had the best Christmas markets of the whole trip.
A top stop on the trip, we had a good walking tour guide. Would have liked another tour option to see more the city more in depth.
