We traveled with Viking on the Paris to the Swiss Alps Tour river cruise from Paris to Geneva Switzerland. The accommodations and service in the Hild Long-ship were fantastic. The embarkation from Paris airport was excellent; we stayed at the Meridian Etoile (sp) hotel in Paris for 3 nights and then on to the cruise. When we arrived in Paris, the Viking representatives were there to meet us at the airport and helped us get a cab and with directions to the hotel. It went smoothly even though we didn't speak the language, thanks to the help of the Viking representatives at the airport. We spent 3 days in Paris and toured the museums and Seine river which we loved. We took a bus from Paris to Trier, Germany where we boarded the Hild, that was docked on the Moselle river and stopped along the way for lunch in Rems where we toured the cathedral.
On board the ship, the outstanding service continued; it's hard to single out any one individual because everyone on the ship was so nice and friendly; our cabin attendant and our breakfast waiter in the Aquivit Terrace were outstanding. The food in the main restaurant and in the informal Aquivit Terrace were equally delicious and varied.
The shore excursions were well guided with knowledgeable local guides, all of which spoke English (as did all the personnel on board the ship). We took not only the basic shore excursions which were included in the price, but also purchased two extra side excursions/extensions in Paris, Zermatt and along the Rhine. All the shore trips were enjoyable and informative.
The cabin was exactly the same as the 3 prior Viking river boats I've been on, so I knew exactly what to expect. If you've never been on a river boat before, it will seem small at first, but ours had a balcony which gave it a more spacious feeling. Since we didn't spend much time in the cabin, the size was not an issue for us.
