We just returned from cruising on the elegant, formal and wonderful Cunard Queen Mary 2. We chose this cruise just to see this famous ship, and slowly make a safe return to the cruising experience by not traveling too far.
First of all, the ship is massive and beautiful, with a great deal of engine power. The public rooms are gorgeous and recall bygone days of glorious ship travel. We especially like the formality and British heritage evident on the QM2. Yes, we enjoy dressing for dinner every night in our tuxedos and gowns. Service is very respectful at all times.
This was the 4th of July weekend, so embarkation was terrible--limited staff, reduced parking, an extremely long line, and hot weather. We waited for hours before boarding, and the experience almost bordered on chaos. It was especially difficult for the elderly and those who could not walk well to endure the delay.
